*my friend and I talking about chapter 8*
Me: I get tired of having to summarize all the evidence we've obtained, it's as if the game told me "Let's see if you've paid attention" As if I didn't pay attention the whole game!!
My friend: ....... the attention (that you lend to the game):

Me: Yes, well, also, why fool ourselves

Moonvale
Because nobody asked for my opinion... I'm going to give it anyway.
Thought, pros and cons of the new game. It's not super spoilery but I'm going to hide it just in case.
First, I would like to say I was NOT at all expecting the new story to be a continuation of Duskwood or to even be a similar story to Duskwood. Everbyte made it very clear this is not what Moonvale was meant to be. I went into this with a completely open mind and tried my best not to compare Moonvale to Duskwood. I was still disappointed. There were several changes Everbyte made that were great but they were overshadowed by the negative changes.
Pros:
1. There is now an LGBTQ option when you enter your name and Duskwood code. This doesn't apply to me so I'm not sure what it changes in the game but this option was needed.
2. You can use diamonds to skip mini-games. I would have spent money just to do this if everything else didn't cost so much.
3. This is just my opinion but the mini-games seemed to be a bit easier.
4. The Duskwood side story. It's not much now but I would play the game just for that. Was it worth spending money to finish sooner? No.
Cons:
1. Money money money. There's no premium package that unlocks everything. I get that Everbyte has to make money off of the game but the content wasn't worth what they were charging!
2. I found the characters really unlikable. Eric was alright, but the rest I couldn't care less for. I started out liking charlie but he quickly became annoying. I really wanted to like Ash but something about her just rubbed me the wrong way. Where was the character development here?!
3. The story line! The Billy Blake story was long and pointless. Maybe it will be important later on but it definitely could have been shorter. It took like 3 mini-game sessions just to get through it! When he said "should I continue" I literally yelled no!
4. The story line! It was unoriginal. Some parts felt very copy, paste, change a few lines and here's a new story.
5. The mini-games. I didn't like how it forced you to play them at set times. One of the things I liked about Duskwood is that you could play all the mini-games in each set and then not have to stop the story so much.
6. AI! I get that they don't have actors for all of the characters but why not use stock images like before? Why do they have to use AI?!?!
7. You can't rewatch ANY of the videos or phone calls. They literally disappear. Yet somehow they are "saved" so you can send them to other characters.
8. We waited 2 years for that?! It had the potential to be amazing and even better than Duskwood. We know Everbyte can make an amazing game Duskwood is proof of that. This did not live up to those standards
I'm sure there's more but this is all I can think of at the moment.

Welcome
Hi! You can call me Hira! To be honest, I'm not even sure why I'm even bothering to put something like this since I'll probably be busy for the next months or so but yeah, I'll just put it right here in case I'll ever accept any future requests or something.
Characters I write for:
So far I can probably write for any characters in Duskwood and Stardew Valley. Preferably for female characters 😉
This could change tho in the future if I ever decide to expand my writing for other fandoms (believe me, I read a lot of fics of other fandoms but that doesn't mean I'll be good at writing the characters. I prefer knowing how to write them first before starting any fic)
What Genre, Troupe, and Type of Fiction do I write, and plan on writing?
I'm open to all genres (fluff, angst, hurt and/or comfort, etc.) aside from any Dark themes, sorry.
Open to any available troupe out there except for cheating and anything that surrounds it.
I can do AUs, canon divergence, and canon compliance.
I just don't really do smut or any NSFW but anything above can be doable if I try.
Things I have written so far:
Dusk til Dawn (Jessy x Gender Neutral MC) - Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4, Part 5, Part 6, Part 7, Part 8, Part 9, Part 10, Part 11, Part 12, Part 13, Part 14 — COMPLETE
Dusk Fragments (Jessy x Gender Neutral MC) - #1, #2, #3
Kiss It Off Me (Haley x Fem!farmer) - Chapter 1, Chapter 2, Chapter 3 , Chapter 4, Chapter 5, Chapter 6 , Chapter 7, Chapter 8, Chapter 9— ONGOING
Imma Fight A Man (But Imma Find A Woman)
I can’t read you but if you want, the pleasure’s all mine.

love blossoms in crisis
One shot
pairing: fem/MC x Jake
Warnings: spoilers duskwood episode 8-10 maybe.
.An old idea I had but never posted.
******
You have agreed to the kidnapper request, and while Jake begged you to stay safe you thought about the MWAF's proposal: he would free Hannah if you go to Duskwood. Now you are right at the place he indicated, Grimrock waterfall. You find the hatch hidden in the ground just as he indicated and head into the iron mine. When you manage to go down, you hear footsteps that make you alert, you are being pushed against the damaged wall, and a hand covers your mouth.
"I told you to stay out of other people's affairs, didn't I, MC?" he said in a lower voice. This time was different. The vile voice who once called you in the middle of the night was no longer here.
"I am here now, you can let Hannah and Richy go. You got what you wanted" you whispered.
"It's not over yet, MC. I told you to not come here. You promised."
At the sound of these words you were left speechless. "You promised"? But that can't be. No, he would not do that. Not to you. Not to your dear ones. Right?
Right?
"Come on, MC. It's me. While you drove here I'm sure you've seen the Chinese restaurant across from the motel I stayed at."
Your E/C eyes were now filled with tears and you just couldn't believe it. Betrayal.
"It was you from the start, wasn't it? When I received my first threatening call and you told me it was a good thing? When Jessy was attacked? When you assured me my friends will be safe when you knew damn well, Jake. You knew very well you're going to attack Richy while he was in a video call with me. You pretended to care and comfort me then."
"I didn't pretend to-"
"Stop. I don't want to hear it. I trusted you."
"MC, listen to me. I never wanted to hurt you. It started all with the kidnapping but she was treated well, I promise. But then things escalated, It eventually was out in the media. I needed to protect myself."
"Monster."
"You don't mean it, MC. Come on... You know our bond was deeper than the meaning of this case. It was us against the world."
"You hurt my friends. You hurt me." You sobbed.
"You're still so naive." He said with a sly grin.
"Let them go" you said quietly.
"Under one condition. You come with me."
"I'll hate you forever. You could've done it so differently. I would've killed to be the the wind blowing through your hair when you were thinking about something else but me. I would've died for your sins, instead I just died inside." You whispered in the end.
"It was no other way. Things were meant to happen as they did."
"It doesn't make sense. Just kill me already and let them go. Please"
"You can text your friends to come to pick them up in 10 minutes. But kill you? I didn't lie when I told you I love you. You should know, you always read people so well."
"Love? I doubt that you are capable of loving." You cried.
"MC... If it weren't for you, Hannah and Richy would still be missing. Love blossoms in crisis. Those moments really brought us together. Even if you don't want to admit that now."
Duskwood groupchat
MC is now online
MC: Guys...
Cleo is now online
Jessy is now onine
Jessy: what happened, MC?
Thomas is now online
Thomas: Why didn't you answer us?
Dan is now online
Dan: Yo I bet she went to face the crowboy alone
Lilly is now online
MC: Well about that...
Jessy: MC!!! 😯
MC: To take Richy and Hannah well, come to the Grimrock alone in 10 minutes. Come alone.
You closed your phone and climbed on the ladder outside after Jake. You looked around. Forest. Dark forest as far as you can see. You wish you could see more than that. Your eyes shift back at him. Could you really leave all your life behind and run away with him? But you couldn't refuse it. Richy 's life was at stake. You did it for him. Did you?
His eyes seemed empty. No worries, no sentiments. His emotionless gaze enveloped you. The man that once was your oxygen, now just appeared to be a nightmare. It wasn't light anymore around him. The spark was gone. You were just a shadow there.
After a few minutes 2 cars pulled up and Jessy ran towards you. Jake pulled out a gun and instinctively you place yourself in between him and her. He points the gun to the ground and nods as you hug Jessy tightly. The others got out of the cars and kept a considerable distance. Well, not Lilly.
"You fxcking bastard!" she screamed as she raced to the kidnapper.
'Fearless', You thought to yourself
Jake hadn't moved an inch. Lilly slapped him like he was nothing but a plush toy. Definitely not like the man who kidnapped her sister. He didn't even push her away. He stood there like he was self conscious he deserved it.
"Lilly, get back here!" Cleo screamed creeped out by the mysterious figure.
Lilly took three steps back and watched him in the eyes as went back down in the mine to bring the 2 missing people.
You look back in one of the cars, at Dan as you murmured a "sorry, you were right". He opened his mouth to say something but the hatch opened again and first climbed up Richy.
You ran in his arms and cried about how sorry you are. He put a fainted smile and hugged you back.
The following person was Hannah. Her dazzling smile that You could remark on every photo of her, reappeared on her face as she saw her friends. Thomas ran straight to her and he embraced her so lovingly.
You looked at them and then back at Richy and Jessy who couldn't stop saying sorry to each other. This must be love.
Jake raised his gun and nodded, signaling the further leaving.
'I did it, I put an end to this nightmare ' You thought to yourself.
Jake came behind you and grabbed your arm. As you walked through the forest, you looked back at the family you chose for the past 2 weeks as they shed tears at every step.
As soon as the mist covered every trace of love and friendship, Jake sighed.
"Maybe one day you'll find the love you had for me and manage to forgive me."
***
Not accurate to the actual game plot but a nice idea.
Let me know what you think.

Moonvale Ep. 1
I've finished the first episode and here are my thoughts.
Mild to extreme spoilers and a train of thought that I'm not sure will go anywhere.
1. Sure, I don't like having to pay for every picture or video either. I get it, though, they need to make money. I think this was a heavy handed way to make it much more expensive than expected, but Duskwood was VERY low requirement to buy game currency, so maybe it seems so bad mostly by comparison.
2. Eric is a goof, and VERY clumsy. He trips at least twice, once in a BIG way and seems like he's a nice guy.
3. I was surprised to see so much of the missing Adam. No further comments on that.
4. Adam's expression when we "answer" the video call was that of palpable relief... There are even tears that fall during this call. He has us as a contact since Eric says he didn't just get the number... He apologized that we'll "have to do this without [him] though it seems impossible"... We know the two cities are close together... Adam has black hair... Jake admitted that he lives under fake names.... I'm curious how the story would be if Jake was revealed under one of his aliases, that's all.
5. Charlie is like a cross between Richy and Dan and I'm not sure how I feel about him
6. The AI images that everyone is freaking out about are whatever... We never saw Lily's face until just before Jake disappeared for a while. Dan had a hoodie covering his face in his profile pic for a while too. As they cast, I'm sure they'll update.
7. I know we're all anxious to see how the Duskwood code affects gameplay, and I think it's safe to say at this point there will be a handful of chats or events that will be threaded through the game that will tie back to our experiences.
8. "I WILL FIND YOU" 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍 SO PUMPED but now I want to go back and NOT flirt with Eric. I thought if it would only be a self contained side story that I could compartmentalize my love for Jake, but now I'm replaying to keep holding on strong for him.

!!Duskwood ep 8 spoilers!!
Yeah no, I just can't, this blog is gonna be dedicated to Richy after I'm done with this game.
Here are reasons why I'm suspecting him
Until now, everyone who's been marked or threatened or actually injured share one thing in common, Richy's knowledge.
Think about it, Richy knew that Jessy was going out when the attack on her occurred, the attacker even followed her for a while to scare her and didn't make a move untill she called us. Of course that was a threat to us
When Richy was marked, NOBODY except us knew about his trip to the dare house. So he could've just marked himself and set up a scenario so that it seems like someone did it while he was out.
Not even mentioning how he was the first person to arrive at Hannah's and we don't know what he could've done
I don't know how he could've known about Dan's date but maybe Jessy leaving work early was enough for him to know, not to mention tempering with a car would be hard in the dark if he wasn't an expert. Also that could explain why Dan's car checkup came out negative, because I believe that was what caused the accident (other than him being drunk) and Richy seemed very serious and pushy about it.
Cleo usually runs by Roger's garage/ into the forest, so it would've been easy for Richy to know about her walks especially after her recent break-in to his workshop, but again he couldn't have know her exact path.
Now to the big question, Richy's death:
I have two theories for that
-Richy is not actually dead:
Again with setting up scenarios, the things we talked about weren't even that important but it created a chance. Suddenly he hears screams and wants to call us, he call, but we don't hear any screaming? Then he sees "someone" that we also can't see, and what would you know, he gets attacked by the culprit who we didn't see using a weapon that also wasn't seen, EVEN THOUGH the man without a face tends to show himself as a threatening sign for us. The weird thing here is the blood, which is a very strong opposer to this theory, but also supports it? Bc Jessy said that the police got his cap which was "full of blood" but we didn't see any mass bleeding? Also if the police found his cap shouldn't they also find his body? Weird
-Richy was betrayed:
So y'all remember the two kidnappers theory? Maybe Richy assisted the real culprit, the previous explanations can also make sense. But what if, for some unknown reason, the man without a face decided he wants to get rid of him?
I haven't thought about this theory that much, maybe because I'm not satisfied with it, but atp I think I'll support any thought that indicates Richy's guiltiness.

Send in the Clowns
⚠ Trigger warning: Not suitable for people with coulrophobia (fear of clowns)
"Everyone's here?" MC asked as she walked into the small meeting room of the Mystery Investigators, Inc. office in Colville.
In the middle of the room sat a second-hand, oval wooden table with mismatching wooden chairs around it. Jake sat at the far end working at his laptop, ignoring Jessy and Cleo who had been gossiping all the latest happenings in Duskwood. Dan sat at the other end opposite Jake. While he seemed to be in quiet contemplation, the truth was he was still a bit hungover from the night before from one too many drinks at the Aurora.
"Well, everyone that was available," Jessy corrected. "Thomas and Hannah are still on their road trip and Lilly got stuck doing double shifts. She says, 'Hello', and wishes she could join us."
"Ah well, we'll take what we can get," MC shrugged and put a couple of large paper shopping bags down in the middle of the table.
"Hey, you've got me. What more do you need?" Dan boasted. "Honestly you could just send the rest of them home."
"Oh so you know how to bypass biometric locks?" Jake mocked.
"I am sure I can work it out. I graduated from the MacGyver School of Resourcefulness," Dan joked. "Just need some tape and some powder and boom! Instant fingerprint!"
"That might work on locks from the 80s, but this is the 21st century," Jake rolled his eyes. "And what would you do if it had an eye scanner?"
"The ol' knock-out-a-guard-and-hold-his-eye-open-in-front-of-the-scanner trick, duh!" Dan beamed.
"Wait, we're knocking out guards?" Cleo questioned.
"No, we are not!" MC exclaimed. "This is a nonviolent operation!"
"Ugh, fine," Dan leaned back in his seat with disappointment. "I suppose Jake can come then."
Cleo sighed with relief, "Ok, good. You know I don't mind a little B & E, but I have my limits."
"Well if everything goes according to my plan, you won't have to worry about the guards at all," MC began. "Our target is Jorge Santos. You may have seen his name on the signs around the city. He's a real estate agent here and we believe he's been scamming some of his clients, but the only way we can prove that is with access to his home computer."
"Is this legal?" Cleo questioned.
"Cleo, the man is an asshole," Dan pointed out.
"Yes, but if they steal information and give it to the police, it can't be used against him, right?" Cleo asked.
"If our goal was to get him arrested, sure. There are other ways to ruin him though," Jake interrupted.
"Our client knows proving a crime actually happened will be difficult with the way these scams are done. However, leaking the right information will heavily damage his image and his name, especially with high profile clients. The goal is to get the truth out in the open," MC explained.
"Ok, let's do it," Dan nodded. "What’s the plan?"
"Well, getting into Santos' house- mansion really, won't be easy. Due to his connections with the mob, his place is guarded. However, it also turns out Santos has an 8 year-old son who turns 9 on Monday. And Santos is going all out on his birthday party. His son wants a circus and has requested clowns," MC smiled with confidence.
"Wait, you mean…" Cleo trailed off, looking around the room.
"Jake as a clown!?" Dan burst out laughing. "This is the best news I've heard all year!"
"You too, numbskull," Jake glared from his laptop.
"Huh, what?" Dan's face twisted.
"Yes, I've ordered five costumes," MC motioned to the bags on the table.
"I think it will be fun," Jessy grinned.
"I don't know the first thing about being a clown," Cleo grimaced. "I could bake the pies though."
"Ah, just make it up as you go!" Jessy encouraged. "That's the great thing about clowns, right? Do whatever feels fun and silly!"
"I think it involves a lot more than that," Cleo frowned.
"Yeah, like a sense of humour," Dan mocked, earning him three eye rolls and a kick to his shin.
"Anyway, how do you propose to sneak around as clowns?" Cleo inquired. "I can't imagine clown costumes will provide much stealth."
"Not with squeaky shoes," Jessy humoured.
"But you need squeaky shoes if you're trying to appear authentic," Dan pointed out, already completely on board. "And a big, red noggin' for him."
Jake narrowed his eyes, "You’re enjoying this way too much."
"Oh, I'll be taking photos. Never know when I might need some quality blackmail material," Dan joked.
"Just remember I will have equally as much blackmail on you, if not more," Jake glared.
"Why would you have more?" Dan raised his eyebrow confused.
"Well, while you three are performing on stage, Jake and I will be breaking into the target's home office," MC shrugged.
"Excuse me!?" Cleo said abruptly. "While we're what!?"
"It'll be fine," Jessy insisted. "We'll spray water at each other and throw pies. The kids will love it."
"I also rented one of those tiny cars. Make Dan go into it and drive around all scrunched up. The kids will love it," MC assured them.
"I am pretty sure I had a nightmare once about this," Cleo sighed. "Ah screw it. It's just for a little while."
"So you’re in?" MC questioned.
"Yes, I'm in," Cleo waved her hand. "But I'm in charge of baking the pies. If I am going to have a pie smushed in my face, it must at least taste halfway decent!"
MC glanced at Jessy, her secretary. "Oh of course you know I'm in, boss," she giggled.
MC looked over to Dan, "Seeing Jake with a rainbow wig, ugly ass clothes and oversized red shoes is more than enough payment for me."
"You too, Dan," Jake reminded him. "You’re going to be wearing the same damn thing!"
"Yes, but you're going to be dressed as a clown," Dan reiterated. "And that will never get old."
"Ok, it's currently 10 o'clock. The party starts at 4. Let's get to it!" MC declared.
"Ah! I need to buy ingredients! Tell me you have pie pans!" Cleo jumped out of her chair.
"This is a private investigator's office. Why on earth would we have pie pans?" Jake pointed out.
"You at least have an oven?" Cleo frowned.
"A microwave oven?" MC shrugged.
"It’s ok, we can use my apartment," Jessy interrupted. "I have everything there."
"So I guess I'll just sit here and take a nap for the next five and a half hours?" Dan leaned back and stretched out his legs.
"Oh, no, you’re coming with us!" Cleo objected. "We can practise between batches."
MC nodded, "I'll go over the plans again. Jake you… you do Jake things."
Jake smiled, "I'll check all the programs."
"Great, let's reconvene here in four hours for costume changes, hair and makeup," MC announced.
"What? How long does is it take you to paint your faces white?" Dan asked astonished.
"It could take us that long just to get your feet into the big shoes," Jessy joked.
Six hours later, the Mystery Investigators, Inc. van rolled up to the security gate in front of the Santos mansion. Its occupants were in full costume and face paint. Their fake flowers pinned to their chest were full of water, ready to spray. Their pies were fresh and ready to be thrown. Dan sat in the back, practising his juggling every time the van stopped. Jake worked on his laptop doing Jake things. The three girls sat in the front with MC driving. A clown car had been loaded into the back, making the van heavier than usual.
"Company name?" The security guard asked, peering through the driver side window.
"Funky Feet. We're one of the hired acts for the party today," MC responded casually.
The guard checked his clipboard to confirm, "Ok, drive up and park on the left side by the servant's entrance."
"Servant's entrance?" Cleo questioned under her breath. "This guy makes that much money off real estate?"
MC nodded and closed the window as the gate opened, then drove up the driveway cautiously.
"You do when you're selling entire city blocks," Jessy pointed out.
"And work for the mob. Don't forget that mob part! No one makes that much money legally anymore," Dan spoke up.
"Now, now, it's time to get into character," said MC as she parked beside a catering van. "We're happy, jovial clowns, remember?"
"Yeah, happy, remember?" Dan nudged Jake with one of his bowling pins. "No sad clowns here."
Under his white face paint, thick red painted lips, blue stars over his eyes, bright green wig and big red nose, Jake glared at Dan. He reached his hand up and squeaked his nose.
"I can be happy," he said flatly.
"Could you at least say that with a smile?" Dan burst out laughing.
Jake faked a smile, but somehow it was even creepier.
"Stop! Stop! You're making it worse! Sweet Jesus, don't give this man any red balloons!" Dan cried out. "Every child is going to have nightmares tonight, I guarantee it!"
"Would you two stop?" MC frowned. "Come on, unload the little car."
Dan bounced up to his feet with two squeaks of his oversized red shoes as Jessy and Cleo went round the back to open the rear van doors. Jake begrudgingly shoved his laptop away in his backpack before getting up to help push the clown car out of the van. Once the car was out, Jake pulled MC aside.
"I'm not scary, am I?" he pouted.
"Aw, hey, don't listen to him. I mean look at Dan. Who are the kids going to be more frightened of? A little ol' sad clown or McBeefy, the body builder clown?" MC joked.
"His muscles do look ridiculous in those bright yellow clothes and those stupid looking suspenders," Jake conceded.
MC leant up and gave his nose a quick peck, not wanting to ruin her own makeup, "Hey, no sad clowns allowed here today, ok?" She moved around to rejoin the group, fighting the urge to laugh at the sight of Dan climbing into the tiny clown car. "Alright team! It's time for operation 'Send in the Clowns!'"
"No pun intended," Jessy giggled.
MC shook her head in amusement, then turned to lead the way around the side of the house to the backyard. The others followed her on either side with Dan in the clown car, Jessy and Cleo carrying boxes full of neatly stacked pies, and Jake working on his happy clown expression, which only got them startled looks from the other hired staff that they passed. Still, it was a power walk like none other seen before, with their oversized red shoes that squeaked out of sync with each other and their bright coloured wigs.
The event organiser approached MC and asked, "Ok, what act are you with?"
MC looked at her clown costume and at the others before turning back to the organiser, "We're the clowns."
The organiser rolled his eyes, "I can see that, but there are multiple clown groups." He gestured to the stage where another troupe was performing.
"We have competition!?" Dan exclaimed. "Oh it is on!"
"Dan! This is not a circus talent show! It's a kids party!" Cleo hushed him.
"Are you going to be satisfied with being second best?" Dan pointed out.
Cleo was quiet for a moment before responding, "I bet their pies taste like trash."
"Their clothes are too coordinated and don't even clash with their hair," Jessy winced.
"They don't have a clown car," Jake pointed out.
"Ha! Even hac-" Dan caught himself before he slipped. "Harlequin boy is getting into it!"
Jake glared at Dan, knowing full well what Dan nearly yelled for everyone to hear.
"Could you do something about that one?" The organiser gestured to Jake. "He's going to give kids nightmares if he keeps that up."
MC smiled while fighting back laughing, "I assure you once he gets into character, he's all smiles. He's just having a bad day because someone hit his cat this morning."
"Oh! I am sorry to hear that. Well, you can warm up over by the hors d'oeuvres table," the organiser motioned.
The group moved over to the buffet table and set down the boxes while Dan parked the car and climbed out. As he was stretching out, the performers on stage finished and swarms of children got up and flooded the area, catching the group by surprise. Dan quickly started to juggle his bowling pins in an attempt to entertain the children.
“You suck!” one of the children yelled suddenly, causing Dan to miss one of the pins. The children all burst out laughing from the comical squeak as it landed on his shoe, followed by the comical pained squeak from Dan’s mouth.
Dan grumbled under his breath, “You little twerp!” But then another child jumped on his oversized shoe to make it squeak again and landed on his toes in the process. A series of comical squeaks streamed from Dan’s mouth.
Meanwhile Jessy pulled out a long balloon from her pocket and blew it up to twist into a balloon animal, “Who would like a dog balloon?”
“I want an elephant!” one of the kids called out.
“Well, I don’t do elephants. I do dogs,” Jessy frowned. “Tell you what, I can make you a giraffe!”
“No, an elephant!” the kid reiterated.
Jessy was so stressed that she ended up popping the balloon anyway. The kids all laughed while she quickly tried to blow up another balloon, but one of the naughty kids poked the balloon with a pin and caused it to pop in her face.
Cleo would’ve come to Jessy’s aid, but she was busy trying to keep the children away from her carefully baked pies, “No touchies!”
Jake on the other hand was slowly walking backwards, trying to get as far away from the mob as possible. However some of the children spotted him and started poking at him.
“What’s in the backpack?” one asked.
“Hey, can you do any tricks?” another pestered.
“Why aren’t you smiling?” another pressured. “Clowns are supposed to be happy!”
“You are a terrible clown!” one called out.
“Ah, he’s so creepy!” another cried.
MC panicked, not sure who to help first. She hadn’t imagined there would be so many children. It felt like the entire school had been invited to the party, or at least the entire grade.
The previous performers walked past sneering at them, “What a bunch of amateurs!”
Just then, MC spotted one of the toddler’s tricycles and grabbed it. She sat down and started awkwardly riding around the group. Jessy saw her and joined MC on a tricycle as well, trundling along beside her. The kids pointed and started giggling at how ridiculous they looked. Dan walked in front of them and jokingly tried to stop them using pantomime, but the girls ran into him and they all fell over. Cleo shook her head, then grabbed two pies and dumped them on the heads of the two female pranksters. A couple of the kids ran over and jumped on top of Dan, but he lifted them up with his monstrous strength and stood up, then pretended to weight lift while the kids held onto his arms. A couple more children jumped on and tried to weigh Dan down, but he couldn’t be stopped.
Amidst all of the chaos, Jake watched by the sidelines confused as to what to do. A young girl grabbed his hand, catching him by surprise.
“It’s ok to be sad,” she looked up at Jake with sympathy.
Jake was speechless, but then he remembered he had a few paper flowers in his coat pocket. He had intended to give them to MC, but he decided it wouldn’t hurt to give one to away. He took it out and offered it to the little girl with a soft smile. As soon as she saw the flower she eagerly took it from him and ran off to show her mother. The speed that she ran off bewildered Jake, but he caught MC watching him with a smirk on her face. Not understanding why MC would look at him like that, he looked away and blushed, hoping the white paint would cover the redness in his face.
While MC was distracted, Cleo and Jessy started play bickering amongst themselves and threw pieces of pie back and forth between them. Some of the kids got involved and started to take sides. They grabbed the expensive hors d’oeuvres as ammunition and soon an all out food fight broke out. MC took the opportunity to sneak out and grab Jake’s hand. While security desperately tried to get the fight under control, they ran off towards the house.
“I started to worry we wouldn’t get away,” Jake commented as he plugged a handheld device into the security pad and unlocked it with brute force.
“Ah, creating chaos is what we do best,” MC smirked, while watching for guards.
“Ok, door’s open. Let’s go,” Jake announced as he opened the door for MC.
MC ran in first. As she spent the afternoon studying the house’s floorplan, she knew exactly where the office was. What she hadn’t expected to find was a guard exiting the bathroom as they came around the corner. They caught him still in the middle of zipping up his pants. Before he could pull out his sidearm, Jake stepped in front and squirted the liquid from his fake flower on his chest into the guard’s face. The guard stepped back stunned, then collapsed unconscious on the ground.
“What the hell was that?” MC exclaimed.
Jake shrugged as he stepped over the unconscious guard, “I figured swapping the water out would come in handy.”
“You did what!?” she glared. “What if one of the kids go their hands on it!?”
“You can discipline me later. Help me pick him up,” he leant down and lifted the guard by his armpits.
MC facepalmed herself in her head while she bent over and picked up the guard’s ankles. Quickly they shuffled him over to a closet and dropped him on the floor. After checking the hallway was clear, they made a mad dash for the office. As they expected. the office door had a digital lock as well, except this one had a fingerprint scanner. Jake pried open the panel and plugged in his device directly into the board, but it was taking a lot longer to break into.
“Dan’s method would’ve been faster,” MC teased.
“No, it would not,” Jake rolled his eyes. “We’d have to find the right fingerprints first and with so many people in the house, there’s no way of knowing whose print is whose. It’s almost done. Give it a bit more time.”
After another minute, the device finally beeped with success. The door clicked open, and MC dashed inside the office. Jake snapped the panel closed again and shut the door behind him.
“Check his bookcase while I install the virus on his computer,” Jake motioned to the bookcase on the side of the room as he marched over to the desk.
“Pfft, I give the orders around here,” MC frowned.
Jake glanced up and raised his eyebrow, “Would you like to break into his computer instead?”
“No, I’m good,” she turned away and started shuffling through the unmarked folders in the bookcase.
Jake shook his head and plopped down in the leather chair. Swiftly he pulled out his laptop and plugged it into the back of the all-in-one computer monitor. As soon as he unlocked his laptop, he started running his program to bypass the PIN login on Santos’ computer.
“There’s nothing here,” MC sighed and stepped away from the bookcase, then glanced over at the very serious clown sitting at the computer typing away like it was life or death. She pursed her lips in an attempt to keep a straight face, but as Jake looked up and noticed her watching, she burst out laughing anyway. “I’m sorry, you just look so ridiculous sitting there looking like that.”
Jake reached up and squeezed his red nose, “The things I do for you.” He couldn’t help but smile as he returned to his work.
MC giggled then noticed in the window behind Jake that Dan, Cleo and Jessy were being chastised by the event organiser. He was absolutely furious, but then one of the children threw a pie at him. While he was distracted, the others ran off with the kids helping their escape. MC then noticed the guard they had knocked out stumbling into the yard gesturing and shouting about a surprise clown attack.
“Oh shit! Jake! We’ve gotta go!” MC gasped.
Jake glanced over his shoulder at the chaos ensuing outside. Not wanting to leave the clown car behind, Dan jumped in and started to drive off just fast enough to keep ahead of security. Jessy and Cleo jumped onto the sides of the car and held for dear life. Jake snapped back around and quickly unplugged his laptop, shoving it back into his backpack.
“The installation is finished. Let’s get out of here before the cops arrive!” Jake said in a hurry.
The two ran for the door so fast their wigs fell off. MC nearly tripped over her shoes as they entered the hallway so she ripped them off and Jake followed suit. Running in their rainbow-coloured socks, they bumped into maids and cooks as they made their way for the servant’s entrance. At some point they lost their red noses, but they couldn’t remember when. As they exited the building, Dan was driving the clown car into the van with Jessy and Cleo still on holding on. MC ran for the driver’s side door while Jake went for the passenger side. They jumped in just as the girls closed the backdoors tight. MC swiftly turned the van on and put it into the reverse gear. She went backwards so quickly, she nearly hit some of the security guards, but sped forwards before they could recover. Luckily the security gate was already open to let a catering van through when MC pushed through in front of them and made it back out onto the open road. In the distance they could hear approaching sirens, but she quickly regained her cool and dropped back down to the speed limit, hiding amongst the everyday traffic on the road.
“Oh my God!” Cleo cried out from the back. “That was nuts!”
“Did we do it?” Jessy asked. “Please tell me we did it.”
MC glanced over at Jake, who was wiping the makeup off his face with a towel. He nodded to MC in confirmation.
“We did it,” she announced.
Later that night social media erupted when phone camera footage of Dan driving the clown car with Jessy and Cleo hanging on top while being chased by security was posted to Tiktok. Thankfully due to the heavy makeup and costumes, no one could identify them. Within the following days documents were leaked to the internet detailing Jorge Santos’ dirty techniques and scams to drive property prices up and down as he saw fit, but unsurprisingly no one managed to connect the two events together. Mystery Investigators, Inc. were successful once again.

Another Love
Chapter 8: Someone to stay
Previous <-
warnings: mention of suicide attempt
Jessy's POV
– Do you know that she saved me?
I whispered, looking into the distance. The sky wasn't beautiful. It was overcast so you couldn't see the stars. It was dark, gloomy and cold. It accurately reflected my condition as well as my companion's.
– Not only you. – Jake replied, his voice was hoarse
I looked up through my teary eyes at his face, which was illuminated by the moonlight, to see the shadows under his eyes have become even more pronounced. He was so tired.
– A few days after Richy's funeral, I wanted to die. – I started again without looking at him. All the walls around our broken hearts have fallen, leaving only the truth. A devastating truth. – I drank myself into unconsciousness even though I hadn't done so in a good few years. And I was standing there. On the bridge, swinging over the edge. I..
The hacker was tense. It was probably one of the few conversations he had with another human being. But I had to confess my sins. They've weighed heavily on my heart for too long, and Jake seemed like the only person who would listen to me at the moment.
– I was already wondering how far I would fall. How long will it be before I die? Will it be immediate or will it be endless agony? - I sniffled, fighting tears - But suddenly I heard a MC behind me. She screamed not to do it. To come home with her. What home - I thought then? Duskwood was no longer my home since I found out that the person closest to me was someone else entirely. He was a liar. Richy kidnapped and held Hannah, and a few hours later he would come to the workshop and joke with me like he always does. He did all that and then he just gone.. He killed himself and left me alone.
We were both silent for a while. I looked at his profile out of the corner of my eye. He stared at the sleepy, unlit buildings before him. I think he was very lonely. Lonelier than he lets on. Maybe lonelier than he even realizes.
– Then I felt her touch. She didn't yank me, but lightly touched my arm to make me turn around. And then I saw that she was crying too. That I wasn't the only one suffering. – my voice started to crack – It was soothing. And you know what we did then? We sat there and started drinking what was left in my vodka bottle. We drank and cried because that was all we had left. At that time, we were convinced that the people we loved the most in the world had been taken away from us. But I'll never forgive myself for what I did the next day.
I could barely speak through the spasms of tears. I was all red and trembling from them.
– The next day I packed up and left Duskwood without telling her. No apologizing. No thanking for saving a life.
I hid my face in my hands, feeling despair and shame again. Jake sighed heavily, probably hating me even more.
– I'm sure she understood.
– Of course she understood! – I burst out – I came back after half a year and when I talked to her, she didn't hate me. She said she fully understood me and that I had the right to do so. Leave, forget and come to terms with what happened. MC is the kind of person who will stay with you no matter what. She is the sun when the storm is spreading chaos all around. That's why I know I don't deserve her. Because when I left her alone, she welcomed me with open arms.
I swallowed and felt his intent gaze on me. He listened to me but did not judge.
– I've hurt a lot of people, Jake. After what Richy did, I completely changed. I pushed Dan away. MC. Everyone. I preferred to be alone so that I would never be disappointed in anyone again. To never experience the same emptiness, griefing. But it was a mistake. I was an egoist who forgot the existence of others. I forgot that Dan, Thomas and Cleo lost a friend too. I forgot Hannah was being held by a friend. And I forgot that MC lost you.
Something in his face moved. I could see how despair gripped his throat.
– So please don't make my mistake again. When you find MC, and I know you will, don't leave her. This special person who saved us all needs someone to stay with her too.

Chaos was the one and only word that could describe the situation right now. The girl behind the wheel turned corners like crazy, dodged whatever came across her path, and sped way above the speed limit. My whole body got thrown around in my seat, and I was pretty sure that a few nasty bruises would start to form on my arms in a few days.
The girl behind the wheel wasn't the only one who created complete chaos, though. The guy in the passenger seat was even worse. He kept screaming orders at the girl who was driving, while he kept looking in the side mirrors to inform the others inside the car about what was happening behind them.
Apparently, we were being chased by four police cars, and judging from the volume of the sirens, they were getting pretty close towards us.
"For fucks sake, drive faster Jessy!" The guy in the passenger seat screamed again and with a quick movement he turned around towards Jake and the others.
"I hope you still know how to shoot a gun, Jake, because we're gonna need you and Kaden to clean this mess up!"
Without a second thought, Jake turned towards Kaden, their eyes locking for a short moment while Kaden handed Jake a small handgun.
"Took you long enough, brother."
Jake snatched the gun from Kaden's hand and walked towards one of the windows.
"Shut up. I would have been out sooner if your girlfriend had worked a little faster, you know. It's not my fault that she-"
Kaden pushed Jake with a loud crash against the side of the window, bringing his face close towards Jake's ear.
"I give you two seconds to shut the fuck up before I lose it bro. Lex did everything she could and you have no right to blame all this on her. She worked her ass off while you were playing sleeping geauty inside those walls."
My eyes widened at the sight in front of me, my heart beating rapidly and my body shaking a little. Firstly, there were freaking guns inside their hands, and secondly, they were about to fight inside the car right in front of my face. Where had I thrown myself into, and who were these people?
A guy with dark red hair pushed himself between the two fighting guys, and within two seconds, both of them stood on opposite sides of the car.
"Stop this bullshit and release your anger on those cars that are chasing us instead of on each other!" The red-haired guy looked from one guy to another, fixing both of them in place with just one look. "Now!"
As if on cue, both guys rolled down the windows on their side of the car. Both of them readied their guns, and with a soft nod towards each other, the guys threw their head and arms outside the window. Shots could be heard almost immediately, and by the slight shake that I could see in Jake's body, I was pretty sure that the shots came from his gun.
I crawled a little further in my seat, everything but happy with the situation I was currently in. When Jake offered me the chance to escape, this wasn't what I had expected at all. My understanding of escaping was camping in the woods while staying away from the cops, something thoughtful while keeping a low profile. Being part of a real-life action movie wasn't in my plans at all, and I didn't like it one bit.
"Go, Jessy, go! You need to move faster!" The guy from the passenger seat yelled again, his vision darting between all the mirrors in the car and the ginger haired girl. The girl behind the wheel turned her face for a short second towards the passenger seat.
"God, Dan, shut up! I got this okay!" Her vision changed back towards the road, and she made another sharp turn to shake off the police cars.
My eyes darted through the car, and I could only scream for help at the sight in front of me. The girl behind the wheel I knew as Jessy kept driving like a complete lunatic while the dark browned haired guy next to her kept screaming her name to alert her of her surroundings.
Jake and the guy I knew as Kaden kept shooting on the cars behind us. The continuous shooting terrified me more than anything. I had never seen a real gun up close in my life, and now there were two being used to shoot the police cars chasing us right beside me.
In front of me was a small girl who kept typing away on her high-tech computer, fast breaths left her mouth, and her hands kept shaking. It was more than clear that besides me, this girl wasn't fond of the whole situation, too. The one who terrified me the most, though, was the last guy, the red-haired one.
Ever since the redhead had managed to stop Jake and Kaden from fighting, his eyes had fallen on me, making him the only one who was aware of my presence. The guy's eyes kept staring at me like I was some kind of enemy, and the whole scene made me more uncomfortable than ever. I felt like the guy was going to throw me out at any moment, and I wasn't ready for that scenario to happen at all.
"Jessy! Go faster they're closing on you!" Kaden suddenly yelled, and without any warning, Jessy turned the car 90 degrees, throwing everyone off their balance. My head and shoulder hit the side of the car with a huge smack.
Small tears started to form in my eyes from the sudden impact. A loud crash sounded from behind the car, and Kaden came shorty inside the car to reload his gun.
"One down! Three to go! Nice one, Jessy!" With lightning speed, Kaden reloaded his gun and threw his head and arms back out the window to shoot at the cars once more.
I didn't know what kind of road Jessy chose to turn on, but judging from the many bumps and shaking of the car it felt like Jessy had thrown the car into a meadow filled with unsteady ground. I pushed myself even further in my seat, hoping to stop my body from all the shaking that was starting to make me nauseous and hurt my body.
All this time, the red-haired guy still kept an eye on me while the girl in front of me kept typing like crazy on her laptop, both of them completely unbothered by the shaking and bumping.
"For fucks sake...Lex how much longer!?" Jake suddenly yelled while a second crash could be heard behind the vehicle.
"Hurry the fuck up girl!"
The girl I assumed was Lex typed even faster on her hightech laptop, little droplets of sweat dropping down from her head while her eyes darted over the numbers on the screen in front of her.
"Almost there, a few more seconds..."
Jake turned his head inside the car, anger radiating from every pore in his body.
"You take too much time Lex, hurry the fuck up you-"
Within a second, Kaden was back up in Jake's face, grabbing him by his collar and pushing him against the side of the car once again.
"Last warning, brother. Leave. Her. Alone." Kaden whispered dangerously low through his teeth, his eyes throwing daggers at the guy before him.
Both guys kept staring with eyes full of anger towards each other, both of them refusing to give up and admit defeat. Within an instant, the red-haired boy had ripped his eyes away from me and maneuvered himself between Jake and Kaden for a second time that day. He pushed Kaden away from Jake, breaking their eye contact.
"You two seriously need to stop this shit!" Dan yelled from the passenger seat while his eyes darted between the two males. He turned back around, and his eyes immediately blew up at the sight in his mirror.
"Oh my god baby, drive faster! They're getting closer."
Jessy turned her eyes towards Dan, and with a deep glare, she shut him up.
"For the last time, I got this. Stop ordering me around! I know what I'm doing, okay!?"
The tension in the air was almost unbearable, and it made the panic in my veins only higher. If the police cars didn't catch up to us, I was pretty sure that the people inside the car were going to be the death of me. There was no way I was gonna make it with people who preferred to fight against each other instead of teaming up against the cops.
I should have never gone with Jake. This whole idea was terrible from the beginning. I was pretty sure that I was going to die right there at the spot, and this was the end...
"It's done!" Lex suddenly yelled, and the whole car fell silent. Kaden and Jake crossed eyes again, and with a quick nod from Jake, Kaden started to smirk at Lex.
"Hit it blue!"
With a soft nod, Lex pushed a button on her laptop, and Jake, together with Kaden, threw their heads out of the window to look at whatever was going to happen outside.
One second passed by without anything happening. Two seconds passed by... Three seconds...Four sec- Boom!
A crash much more louder than the last two suddenly sounded through the car, and a huge smirk fell on the faces of the people inside the car. Both police cars had been blown up at the same time, creating a massive fire explosion that made it impossible for any following cars to chase after us anymore.
"Hell yeah! Nice one, blue! 10 out of 10, I would recommend you do that again!" Dan yelled, and a small smile fell on Lex's face.
Jake and Kaden got back in the car and started to high five every one of them. Everyone except for me. I was still sitting as far as possible in my seat in the corner of the car, completely forgotten by everyone except for the red-haired guy who threw suspicious glances at me once in a while.
I could only hope that these murderers had all forgotten about me and that I could run away from them as far as possible and as soon as possible.
My breathing had become uneven, and I looked with big eyes at the people before me. I saw how everybody started to high-five each other, celebrating their victory while still not noticing me.
"That was fucking awesome, well done Lex!" Dan yelled again while he sat back in his seat, throwing his head back and placing his feet on the dashboard in front of him.
Kaden and Jake both hung against the sides of the car, cleaning out their weapons to get rid of any form of dust or gunpowder. Lex closed her laptop and placed her head in her hands after, clearly stressed about the whole thing. Jessy slowed the pace of the car down, and with somewhat of a more normal speed, she drove away from the whole scene that happened behind us.
The redhead was a whole different story, though. He didn't seem bothered by the whole ordeal that just happened. He could only look at me with those soul piercing eyes of him. Eyes that freaked me out the longer they were on me and made me push myself even further in the seat I was currently occupying. A short silence fell over the car before Jake was the first to speak again.
"Dan, update me."
A smirk fell over Dan's face, and he slightly turned around so he could look at Jake.
"With pleasure." All eyes were immediately on Dan. "The business has been quite the same, still the same people and still the same problems. There were some changes, though..." Dan shortly fell silent.
"Uh guys-" Redhead started but got cut off immediately by Kaden.
"We arranged a huge deal with a weapon dealer. If everything has gone according to plan, the weapons should have arrived by now." Jake gave both guys a nod.
"Guys-" Redhead tried again, but again got cut off by Jessy.
"Thanks to Lex, we intercepted a huge cargo of cocaine that we used as trade for the weapon deal." Jessy amplified, creating a small smile on Lex's face.
"Guys, who is-" Redhead tried for a third time, but nobody seemed to listen to him.
"Nobody got badly wounded, some small cuts and stuff, but Jessy took care of it right after." Dan spoke again. "We've already planned out our next mission-" But before Dan could finish his next sentence, redhead suddenly yelled to get everybody's attention.
"Guys!"
The five people all turned their heads towards redhead, an irritated look on their faces.
"What do you want? This isn't the time for stupid questions, Sam." Kaden blurred at the redhead, his eyes squinted together and his lips in a fine line.
"I-I know that, but-" Sam stammered softly, clearly intimidated by the other five.
"For fucks sake get on with it!" Kaden now full on yelled and within an instant Sam had grabbed me by my arm, pushing me towards the middle of the car.
"Who the fuck is this!?"
The whole car fell silent, all eyes on me when I stood between them all. My eyes were big, my skin getting pale and my body shaking like a leaf. I felt like dying right at that moment, I had seen how dangerous these people were, and I felt everything except from safe now that I stood in between them all. These people were gonna murder me, and I was sure of it. There was no way I was getting out of this alive. There was-
Before I could even finish my thoughts, complete chaos erupted in the car. I heard how Dan started to yell at Jessy to watch out for a tree they were going to crash into due to Jessy sitting backward and looking at me. The car made a sharp turn to avoid the tree, Jessy started to yell back that Dan had to leave her alone and that she knew what she was doing.
Dan defended himself, and Jessy yelled back. The two kept going back and forward like an old married couple, completely ignoring what was in the back.
The back of the van was a whole different story, though. The moment Jessy had made the sharp turn to avoid the tree, Kaden had taken it upon himself to push me against the side of the car. His hand around my throat, his arm against my chest and his face right before mine.
I had tears dripping down my face, and my breathing had become to start even more uneven than it already was. My legs felt weak, but I had to keep myself up to prevent myself from being strangled by Kaden.
"Who are you? What do you want-" Kaden started, but he got ripped away by Jake almost instantly.
"Stop that, you fucking idiot!" Jake yelled at Kaden and he pushed him away from me. Without giving it a second thought I lunged myself at Jake, grabbing the front of his shirt for dear life.

I immediately engulfed the girl in a hug, bringing her towards the seat next to Lex. I sat down with her in my lap and slowly stroked her through her hair to try to calm her down a little.
"What the fuck." Kaden whispered, looking at the two of us when we sat next to his own girlfriend.
"This..." I motioned to the girl in my lap while I looked at Kaden and the others. "This is Mc. She was my cellmate back in the prison, and I brought her with me. She can be useful." I slowly lifted Mc's head, wiping away the tears and turning her towards the others.
"You're okay. They won't hurt you while I'm here. Calm down." I whispered in her ear, and she slowly started to calm down by my words and my soft touch.
"And she is good for what exactly?" Kaden started out, giving Mc a foul look. I glared back at my brother and protectively placed my arms around Mc.
"She was studying to become a nurse. She could help Jessy out in the hospital."
Kaden suddenly started laughing, and Mc pushed herself even harder against me. Mc seemed to be more and more frightened of Kaden.
"You're joking, right? Do you want to put this one in the business? She looks like she couldn't even hurt a fly if you asked her to! Why the fuck was she even in that prison? Did she kill an ant or something!?"
I gave Kaden another glare, and I flipped him off instantly.
.

.
I looked up at Kaden, knowing that if I wanted to impress the crazy guy, this would probably be my only chance. Murder was something to impress people with, right? Maybe by telling Kaden the reason why I was in prison, he would get somewhat frightened and leave me alone.
"I killed my sister." I whispered almost inaudible. The whole car fell silent, and a new wave of anxiety took over my body. Maybe this wasn't as good of an idea as I had first thought.
"You did what?" Kaden whispered back, his eyes squinted and his eyebrow raised.
"I killed my sister." I whispered a little louder, casting my eyes downward to avoid eye contact with the guy before me.
"You... You killed a person?" Kaden dragged out slowly, his voice filled with disbelief.
"Was your judge an idiot or something? This must be the joke of the century, right?"
I kept silent while Kaden, on the other hand, started to laugh again.
"They put you... A girl who started crying the moment I pushed you against a wall in a prison for killing a person?"
I gave him a small nod, and another set of laughs erupted from Kaden's mouth.
"You sure are a funny one, crying baby. But you didn't kill a person. You couldn't even kill an ant if I asked you with my gun against your head. What a fucking joke... Killing a person."
Jake tightened his arms around me, and he gave Kaden a stern glare.
"Shut the fuck up, leave her alone. It shouldn't even matter why she was there and why she is coming with us. This isn't your choice first of all, it's mine and I'm taking her with us! Deal with it!"
Kaden fell silent at that and with one last foul look he pushed past the people and took a seat next to Sam in the back, muttering something in the words of 'Unbelievable' and 'Idiot'.
Jessy on the other hand was a lot more enthusiastic about me, she immediately started to welcome me and tell me how she could use my help pretty badly at the moment, how she would show me around and how we would have lots of fun working together.
Dan, Lex, and Sam all kept silent, not knowing what to do with the whole situation. Bringing Jake back home was one thing, but bringing someone else with them was a whole other thing.
Jake softly started to whisper to me how there was nothing to be afraid of and that once we got home, he would make sure to give me some new clothes and a soft bed to sleep in. I could only softly nod at him.
~
I had no idea how long we drove in the car, but it felt like an eternity to me. The whole ride, everybody spoke about stuff I didn't understand, and all of them ignored me completely. Jake was the only person who said something once in a while, but even he had almost no attention for me.
The only thing that made me smile a little that whole ride was the fact that Lex had looked at me once while giving me a small smile. Just the fact that someone had actually noticed me had been enough for me to smile, even if it was just for two seconds.
I wasn't part of this group, and that feeling took me over more and more. I was a burden to them, and they didn't want me here. Jake had taken me out of spite, but not because he wanted to. I was alone in this, and I hated every last bit of it.
The car finally came to a hold, and within an instant, everybody except from me had jumped out of the car. I looked with big eyes at the exit of the car, not sure if I wanted to get out or not. Once I got out, there was no way back, and I was more than aware of that fact. Jake popped his head back in the car, and he reached out towards me.
"You coming? I promise you that nobody is gonna hurt you. There's nothing to be afraid of."
With some hesitation, I reached out towards Jake's hand, knowing that staying in the car by myself was also not an option. My whole body felt stiff and cold, I was shaking, and the color had drained from my face. I didn't like this one bit. With some difficulty, I got out of the car, still holding on to Jake's hand like my life depended on it.
"Welcome to our humble home." Jake whispered, and slowly, I looked up at the building before me.
To say I was shocked was an understatement. I had expected a lot, but this wasn't on my list of options. An abandoned warehouse that looked like it was going to collapse in the middle of nowhere was definitely not on my list of options. The building looked terrible. Twigs of ivy surrounded one side of the building, huge patches of rust affected the metal windows and walls, and the rooftop had multiple holes it in.
The whole building looked unsteady and ready to break down at any moment. If I had come across this building any other day, I would for sure have marked it as one of those abandoned haunted houses you see in horror movies. It looked that bad.
I kept shaking like a leaf, the sight in front of me making it even worse than it already was. The others didn't seem fazed at all, though. Lex and Kaden walked a little bit in front of us. Kaden's arm thrown over Lex's shoulder, while Sam walked next to them and kept chatting about something random I didn't quite understand.
Dan and Jessy were a bit closer to me. The two of them stood a little to my right, still bickering about the car ride. Dan was still not happy with the fact that Jessy almost crashed into a tree while Jessy kept going about the fact that Dan didn't need to treat her like a child and that she knew what she was doing.
Jake grabbed my hand, and we slowly made our way over to the bickering couple, grabbing their attention immediately. He slowly rubbed his thumb a little over my hand to calm me down. I gave him a soft smile in the meantime.
"Jessica?" Jake started. "Could you show Mc around while I fix some business with Dan?"
My anxiety grew even more with that statement. The only person I somewhat trusted in here was going to leave me, too, and I didn't like that thought at all.
"Will you be okay with that, Mc?" Jake spoke again, but before I could shake my head and disagree with the idea. Jessy had already grabbed my hand and started to drag me to the building.
"Make sure to keep an eye on her the whole time, Jessica! Bring her to your chamber when you're done with the tour! I will pick her up there after I'm done!" Jake yelled after us before the both of us would be out of sight.
I looked a little panicked at the girl next to me, not trusting the situation at all. With a wide smile on her face, she dragged me inside the building, following the other three others with a little skip in her step.
"First thing, let's get some food before we start with this tour. I'm sure you're hungry, right?" She gave me another smile, and she tightened her grip on my hand.
"I'm Jessy, by the way, but I guess you've figured that out by now. Jake calls me Jessica, though, but please call me Jessy. I don't know why he brought you here, but I'm happy that he did. I could use some help in the hospital wing."
My anxiety reduced a little at that statement. Jessy didn't seem that scary on second thought. She had a very motherly vibe around herself, and she didn't look like someone who would bring any harm to me. To say I trusted her was a bridge too far, but I wasn't as frightened anymore. Jessy looked like a happy and caring girl, a vibe I could connect with easily.
The inside of the building looked somewhat better than the outside. It didn't feel like a home or something, but it didn't look that bad either. It was cold and empty looking, but contrary to the outside, it didn't look like it was gonna fall apart at any moment. We walked through three long hallways before we reached two big double doors with a lot of noise coming from behind them.
"This is the canteen. The food isn't that good, to be honest, but it keeps us alive." Jessy opened the doors, and the sight before me frightened me completely. There were about one hundred people sitting in groups on long straight tables. It looked like the prison all over again, and that fact alone made me hate it completely.
"It gets a little crowded over here every once in a while. Feel free to come by our apartment if you ever want to eat something more delicate and in peace. We usually eat apart from the crowds, and you're welcome to join us anytime, okay?"
I nodded softly at the girl beside me, still in shock about the sight in front of me.
"Does everybody have an apartment?" I asked, still eyeing the room before my eyes. Jessy started to chuckle, closing the doors and walking further into the hallway.
"I bet they wished they had, but no. Only the people who are close to Jake have their own. The others share rooms in little groups on the opposite side of the building."
I jogged after Jessy to catch back up with her. If there was one thing I didn't want right now. It would be losing Jessy and getting lost in here. The girl kept walking while giving me little bits of information about the building and the rooms we passed on our way.
Information I tried to memorise as best as I could. Jessy took a left before she opened another door, motioning me to walk inside before her.
"Welcome to my ward." Her voice sounded from behind me. A soft smile fell on my face. In front of me was a small hospital wing filled with stuff I knew from my days as a nursing student. On the left side were around twenty beds, none of them occupied at the moment.
White blankets are neatly thrown over them and small nightstands between every two beds. Compared to the rest of the building, the room looked neat and clean, almost too clean. Without knowing there was no way, you would guess that the building would hold such a nice room inside of it.
Jessy walked a little inside the room, pushing away some curtains to show me the whole room properly. Her action revealed a small desk in the middle of the room with two huge metal lockers behind it.
"This is where I work if I'm not busy with the patients. One of the lockers holds all my paperwork while the other holds everything you could possibly need around here. Medicins, operation tools, you name it, and it's probably there."
Jessy removed another curtain, revealing a white wall with a small window in it and a door.
"May I introduce you to my operation room?" Jessy opened the door and motioned me to follow her inside. With small steps, I made my way over to her, stepping through the door while Jessy turned on the lights.
My eyes widened immediately at the sight, in front of me was, in fact, a small operation room. It's just big enough to do any kind of operation that didn't need too many people.
"I'm glad Jake took you with him, you know. I was dying to finally get some help around here." Jessy put her hand on my shoulder and walked back inside the bigger room.
"It gets a little lonely in here sometimes, but I'm sure that won't be much of a problem anymore now that there are two of us." A small smile fell on both of our faces. Jessy closed all the curtains back up, and with another motion of her hand, she took me back into the hallway.
Jessy showed me everything we came across on our path, telling little stories on the way about funny things that happened in certain places. It didn't take us long to reach the hallway filled with private rooms, as Jessy called them while she led me to her own. She opened the door for me, and a soft gasp left my mouth.
"Welcome to my and Dan's apartment. I hope you like it."
I could only look around myself, taking in the beauty before my eyes. Completely agreeing with the fact that I indeed liked it.

Duskwood
Jakes view
Part 7

Damn, what does he want? Is he serious?
The magical moment between them gets interrupted by a call from Phil. He feels his anger coming up. Why do you call her all of a sudden? You have enough other people to call.
Yes MC, I am annoyed. I don't like him. He better leave you alone.
Fuck... He slaps his laptop.
Sorry MC...Ok, Jake, calm down. Who is he? He doesn't have the same connection to her as I do. So there is nothing to worry about.
Not convinced by his own words, he's thankful that MC tells him there's nothing to worry about.
He assures her that she didn't have to be afraid of the police. He will know when they will contact her and takes care of it.
Thomas and Jessica found out about the hiding from the kidnapper and after another threatening call later, the group made the decision to leave Duskwood. They're going to a cabin in the woods. Hm... would not have been my first choice, but as long as they feel safe, it's the best thing to do. He's relieved that MC doesn't go with them.
He smiles just me and her again. Continuing investigating.
Alright, he streches , time to analyze the pictures that Jessica took in the kidnappers hiding place.
Let me try something. A warm feeling comes up.
Did it work? Yes. Again, he smiles. He makes it possible that he and MC can have a look at the pictures together; he shares his screen with her.
He clicks through the pics and they talk about every single one.
As they reach the pic with MC's name on the wall, he holds in his breath.
What the.... and again he feels anger coming up. And he feels helpless. He wants to protect her.

They talk about the phone Thomas found in the house, Hannah's phone andJake told MC to try to unlock it.
He locks off. Still angry.
Wasn't there...? Yes. He grabs his hoodie, leaves the motel, and walks down the street. I know I don't really have time for this, but I have to calm down a bit.
He enters the shop and comes out with keys and a helmet a few minutes later. He heads for a black motorcycle. He puts on the helmet and starts the engine. He loves the sound. With a quick look left and right, he drives on the street. Luckily, the road is long and empty. He lowers his head, turns the gas and speeds down the street.
The thoughts he had a while ago were gone. At least for now. It's just him, the motorcycle, the street and the adrenalin.

He returns to the shop an hour later. He feels better now. He enters his motel room, opens his laptop and goes back to work.
Mc screwed up with the pin. No Problem. I will fix that.
After she got access to the phone, she told him that she was nervous. He's glad that she helps him, even if she's just doing it for him.
She feels his sadness and she understands him.
We match perfectly, he thinks and smiles.
