I love tornado survival guides. "Shelter in a basement or interior room without any windows. But if you're in a mobile home, just fucking die I guess lol"
#did you know over half of deaths caused by tornados are residents of mobile homes?#which also means that they're primarily poor and elderly and disabled people#most places have absolutely no requirements for trailer parks to have safe shelter for residents during a tornado#personal tornado shelters cost $5000+ and many of them can't be installed in trailer parks because of neighborhood rules#and many parks are so isolated that going to find shelter somewhere else isn't safe or possible#it's safer to shelter inside a ditch outside than to stay in a mobile home during a tornado#and yet there's next to no effort to change laws to make trailer parks safer especially in emergencies#or even make other housing more accessible and available so people don't have to live in homes made of tissue paper#there's no tornado happening i'm just stressed

It's such a minor gripe but I hate it when people in fanon content make it so that the giant swelterstone in the Dunes has a habit of dimming/being covered up at night. It just. Feels like it detracts from the whole "ecological disaster" deal if the swelterstone can just be covered up (why not keep it constantly covered in that case? Then monsters can grow greenery in the Dunes and restore it back to the Meadows). And the Underground is supposed to be a stagnant environment (I think Alphys said that there's no real weather in the Underground. Also the Underground is literally underground. Of course it's not gonna experience weather like the Surface). Having a 24-hour "sun" that bakes the land dry and withers crops and throws off everyone's circadian rhythm feels more in line with the whole "hopeless, unchanging Underground" situation than an imitation sun that "rises" and "sets."
#it's stupid but seeing that makes me feel a sort of anger that isn't proportion to the situation.#maybe it's because I've been somewhere where there was a 22-hour sun during the summer and oh god did that throw me off#slept like shit because the sun wouldn't set until around 1 am and then it'd be back in a few hours anyways. the place i was staying#at didn't have blackout curtains. the sun would be shining right in my eyes. it sucked :D#but yeah back on topic: i think it's more interesting to explore the 24-hour fake sun idea than let it set.#maybe nothing can cover up the swelterstone in the sky/break it because most things melt/burn from the intensity of the heat it emits#but it could be made more manageable by breaking it into smaller and less hot pieces with specialized equipment from hotland#but the Dunes are such an isolated place in the Underground/Asgore is so lax on policies that despite the many petitions that#residents of the Dunes sent there's been no proper follow-up. so most people have decided to take matters into their own hands and#try to green up the Dunes and the residents of the Dunes also feel more isolated from/aren't as keen on Asgore because of#his negligence.#i mean. that's just my headcanons on the situation that i spitballed there. fine if you disagree. it's whatever.
