Economic Challenges and Opportunities for Oak Brook, Illinois: An Analysis.
Oak Brook, Illinois, a picturesque village in DuPage County, is known for its affluent residential areas, robust corporate presence, and extensive recreational facilities. Despite its strengths, Oak Brook faces several economic challenges and opportunities that will shape its future. This analysis explores the current economic landscape of Oak Brook, Illinois highlighting key challenges and potential growth areas.
Economic Challenges
Retail Sector Decline
The retail sector in Oak Brook has historically been a significant contributor to the local economy, anchored by Oakbrook Center, one of the largest open-air shopping centers in the United States. However, the rise of e-commerce and changing consumer behaviors have negatively impacted brick-and-mortar retail stores. The COVID-19 pandemic further accelerated this trend, leading to store closures and reduced foot traffic. As retailers struggle to adapt, Oak Brook must innovate to reinvigorate its retail spaces.
Corporate Relocations
Oak Brook is home to several corporate headquarters, such as McDonald's (before its move to Chicago) and Ace Hardware. However, corporate relocations to downtown Chicago or other metropolitan areas for better access to a younger, urban workforce pose a significant challenge. This trend can lead to reduced local employment opportunities and lower commercial real estate occupancy rates, impacting the village's economic stability.
Aging Infrastructure
The infrastructure in Oak Brook, like many established suburbs, is aging. Roads, public utilities, and facilities require upgrades to meet modern standards and support future growth. Funding these improvements amidst budget constraints poses a considerable challenge for local government, potentially affecting the village’s appeal to businesses and residents alike.
Environmental Sustainability
Oak Brook's development over the years has led to increased pressure on its natural resources and environment. Managing stormwater, maintaining green spaces, and reducing the carbon footprint are essential to ensuring sustainable growth. Addressing these environmental concerns requires substantial investment and a strategic approach.
Economic Opportunities
Diversification of the Economic Base
To mitigate the risks associated with reliance on retail and a few large corporations, Oak Brook can diversify its economic base. This involves attracting businesses from burgeoning sectors such as technology, healthcare, and green energy. Initiatives to foster a startup-friendly environment, including tax incentives and co-working spaces, can attract new enterprises and drive economic dynamism.
Revitalization of Retail Spaces
Transforming retail spaces to mixed-use developments can revitalize Oak Brook’s economy. This includes incorporating residential units, office spaces, entertainment venues, and green areas into traditional shopping centers. Mixed-use developments can enhance the village’s appeal, increase foot traffic, and create a vibrant community hub.
Leveraging Location and Infrastructure
Oak Brook's strategic location near major highways and its proximity to Chicago offer significant logistical advantages. By leveraging this location, the village can attract logistics and distribution centers, which are increasingly important in the era of e-commerce. Enhancing transportation infrastructure, such as improving road conditions and connectivity, can further bolster this opportunity.
Focus on Education and Workforce Development
Investing in education and workforce development is crucial for sustaining long-term economic growth. Partnerships with local colleges, universities, and vocational training centers can ensure a skilled workforce that meets the needs of modern industries. Additionally, initiatives to attract and retain young professionals, such as affordable housing projects and community amenities, can help counteract the loss of younger demographics to urban centers.
Tourism and Hospitality
Oak Brook's rich history, cultural institutions, and recreational facilities provide a solid foundation for expanding tourism and hospitality. The village can capitalize on these assets by promoting itself as a destination for both leisure and business travelers. Enhancing local attractions, hosting events, and improving hospitality services can stimulate economic activity and create jobs.
Sustainable Development Initiatives
Embracing sustainable development practices presents a dual opportunity for Oak Brook: protecting the environment and attracting environmentally conscious businesses and residents. Implementing green building standards, expanding public transportation options, and investing in renewable energy projects can position Oak Brook as a leader in sustainability, appealing to modern sensibilities and reducing long-term operational costs.
Conclusion
Oak Brook, Illinois, stands at a crossroads with distinct economic challenges and opportunities. Addressing the decline in the retail sector, managing corporate relocations, upgrading aging infrastructure, and ensuring environmental sustainability are critical to the village’s economic health. However, by diversifying its economic base, revitalizing retail spaces, leveraging its strategic location, investing in education and workforce development, and embracing sustainable practices, Oak Brook can navigate these challenges and unlock new growth potential.
The future of Oak Brook depends on strategic planning and proactive measures to foster an environment conducive to business innovation and community well-being. With its strong foundation and forward-thinking approach, Oak Brook can continue to thrive as a dynamic and prosperous community.

For couples in DuPage County looking for a more streamlined and efficient way to dissolve their marriage, an online quick divorce offers a promising solution. Resolvium is here to guide you through this modern approach, providing expert assistance to ensure your divorce is handled smoothly and quickly. Understanding Quick Online Divorce
A quick online divorce is an expedited process that allows couples to complete their divorce paperwork and proceedings online. This method is particularly beneficial for uncontested divorces, where both parties agree on all major issues such as property division, child custody, and support arrangements. By utilizing online resources and digital communication, couples can bypass many of the time-consuming steps associated with traditional divorce procedures.
Benefits of Quick Online Divorce
1. Time-Efficient
Traditional divorce proceedings can take months or even years to finalize, often due to court schedules and lengthy paperwork. An online quick divorce significantly reduces this timeframe. By streamlining the process and utilizing digital platforms, couples can often complete their divorce in a matter of weeks.
2. Cost-Effective
Legal fees and court costs can quickly add up in a traditional divorce. An online quick divorce is generally more affordable, as it minimizes the need for extensive legal consultations and multiple court appearances. This approach is particularly advantageous for couples seeking a cost-effective way to separate.
3. Convenient and Accessible
One of the main advantages of an online quick divorce is the convenience it offers. Couples can complete necessary forms and communicate with legal professionals from the comfort of their own homes. This flexibility is especially beneficial for individuals with busy schedules or those who prefer a more private approach to their divorce.
4. Reduced Stress
Divorce is inherently stressful, but an online quick divorce can help alleviate some of the associated pressures. By simplifying the process and minimizing in-person interactions, couples can focus on reaching an amicable resolution without the added stress of courtroom battles.

Resolvium: How to Prepare for Divorce Mediation
Divorce is a challenging process, often laden with emotional and practical complexities. Navigating divorce proceedings can be overwhelming, especially when faced with the legal intricacies and personal dynamics involved. However, there are alternative methods to traditional litigation that can offer a more amicable and efficient resolution. Divorce mediation, facilitated by organizations like Resolvium, provides a platform for couples to negotiate and reach agreements with the help of a neutral mediator. If you're considering divorce mediation, here's how to prepare for the process, tailored to specific regions like Arlington Heights, DuPage County, St. Johns County, Will County, and Kane County.
Understanding Divorce Mediation
Before delving into preparation specifics, it's essential to comprehend what divorce mediation entails. Unlike litigation, which involves court proceedings and adversarial representation, mediation emphasizes collaboration and communication. A trained mediator facilitates discussions between spouses, guiding them towards mutually beneficial resolutions regarding key issues such as property division, child custody, and financial matters. Resolvium specializes in providing a conducive environment for productive mediation sessions, ensuring both parties have an opportunity to voice their concerns and interests.
Starting the Process in Different Counties
Each county may have its own procedural requirements for initiating divorce proceedings. For individuals residing in Arlington Heights, DuPage County, or St. Johns County, it's advisable to consult local legal resources or seek guidance from professionals familiar with regional laws. Generally, the process begins with filing a petition for dissolution of marriage in the appropriate county court. In DuPage County, for instance, this typically involves submitting the necessary paperwork to the Circuit Court Clerk's office and paying the required fees.
Preparing for Mediation
Gather Documentation: Compile relevant financial documents such as tax returns, bank statements, and property deeds. Having a comprehensive overview of assets and liabilities will facilitate productive discussions during mediation sessions.
Define Priorities: Reflect on your goals and priorities for the mediation process. Consider what matters most to you regarding child custody arrangements, spousal support, and division of assets. Being clear about your preferences will help streamline negotiations.
Open Communication: Commit to open and respectful communication with your spouse. While emotions may run high, approaching discussions with a willingness to listen and compromise can lead to more satisfactory outcomes.
Explore Options: Educate yourself about alternative dispute resolution methods, including mediation and collaborative divorce. Understanding the benefits of mediation, such as its confidentiality and flexibility, can empower you to make informed decisions.
Seek Support: Divorce can be emotionally taxing, so don't hesitate to seek support from friends, family, or mental health professionals. Having a strong support network can bolster your resilience throughout the mediation process.
The Role of Resolvium
Resolvium serves as a trusted partner in guiding couples through the divorce mediation journey. With a team of experienced mediators and a commitment to fostering constructive dialogue, Resolvium strives to empower individuals to navigate divorce with dignity and respect. Whether you're in Will County or Kane County, Resolvium offers tailored mediation services designed to address the unique needs of each client.
In conclusion, preparing for divorce mediation involves thorough planning, effective communication, and a willingness to collaborate. By understanding the process and proactively addressing key considerations, individuals can approach mediation with confidence and clarity. With the support of organizations like Resolvium, divorcing couples can achieve mutually acceptable resolutions while minimizing conflict and stress.

What is the history of the Goddess of the Board of Trade?
The true story of the Goddesses of the Board of Trade is one...OF CRIME!
Or rather, of white-collar swindlers, but still. The two statues, of Industry and Agriculture, originally adorned an earlier board of trade building, which was torn down in the late 19th century. The statues were sold during demolition to a local grain merchant, who moved them out to his estate and then died while under indictment for tax evasion. His wife sold them with the land to a gambling magnate, who also got dinged for tax evasion.
The land eventually ended up as part of the Forest Preserves of DuPage County, and they just kinda chilled in a public forest for a while until finally someone figured out that they had been part of the original Board of Trade, and they were brought back into the BoT plaza in 2005.
I'm very fond of their plaza, in part because I like the statues but also because they're in a high foot-traffic area right next to a McDonalds with big floor to ceiling windows. In pre-pandemic times I liked to stop at the McDonalds, get some fries, and sit at the windows and peoplewatch as a way to unwind from the day.

UGH I was too lazy to get gas out in oak brook after my interview cause I still had 110 miles in the tank left when I was leaving (my gas light goes on at 50 miles which feels excessive and it drives me insane) and now I'm down to like 88 or something (and you knowwww it goes down faster when it's this cold)..... and it's literally a full dollar more per gallon in the city. Why was I feeling lazy. I guess if I only drive to anthro until I go to Barrington on Christmas eve then I'll still have enough gas to get gas out in Barrington which will still be a dollar cheaper per gallon. But I realized while chilling in oak brook before my interview today, Barrington (well, half of barrington actually, it's on the county line), Chicago, and oak brook are all in different counties. And I noticed that oak brook's county DEFINITELY has the lowest sales tax. I actually wouldn't be surprised if DuPage (oak brook's county) has one of the lowest sales taxes in the state. And there's a big mall 1 mile from that Exelon office. So fuck yeah
#the state sales tax is 6.5% and i think dupage county is less than 1% so that's gotta be the lowest#west loop is up to 10.85% or something

Wheaton, IL
Wheaton, IL, ranked high in the best places to live in the United States. Even Money magazine, in partnership with realtor.com, agreed that Wheaton is two of the best places to live in Chicago. This area has a lesser crime compared with other communities. In fact, Wheaton is excluded from the list of communities with more than double statistics of crimes. This area features the authentic character of the history of Wheaton, also the red-brick town hall and the old theater with such a magnificent façade and locally-owned shops. The first time I entered Wheaton, I already felt the calmness and peacefulness that the town has to offer. Until now that I have been spending my life here, in fact, I have been here for over ten years now, I still have the same feeling.

kweh-not-wark replied to your post “So, this morning I got an email from my mortgage lender saying that...”
I know someone in real estate development in DuPage who has connections in Cook and Kane that might know what number to call if you haven’t found it. I could see if maybe he might have an idea about this all-9s number and what the correct one would be?
Oh, thank you for the offer! I found the site no problem, and the site had all the info I needed. Sadly I can’t get an exemption for 2017 because I didn’t own it in that year, so I need to wait until I can apply for exemption in the 2018 tax year.
geekgirl76 replied to your post “So, this morning I got an email from my mortgage lender saying that...”
Eugh, fuck property tax value shit... It would probably be cost prohibitive/might backfire, and I have no idea how that works in the States, but can you get a real estate agent to do a valuation to appeal the value numbers? Wasn't your apartment on the market for quite a while? I can't imagine the market has changed enough to have put it's value up that much, especially since you haven't got to the more "valuable" renovations like kitchen and bath...
Well, the issue is, I bought the unit for so much more than the previous owners did like, fifteen years ago. So the jump in taxes is justified in terms of, it had been at one value for so long because they were basing value on what was paid for it. And now I’ve paid a bunch more for it, because inflation and rising property values, so the taxes have gone up. It’s a fair appraisal, really, especially if you look at the comps. It’s just a bunch more than it was.

I’m gonna come up there and I’m gonna teach them Roll Tide :P
I’ll have to keep an eye out for Bama games! I’m sure they would enjoy cheering them on.

'I Almost Died 3 Times': 25-Year-Old COVID Survivor, Jason Barbosa, Sends Warning After Severe Recovery Complications CHICAGO (CBS)– At just 25 years old, Jason Barbosa of Carol Stream knows what it’s like to live and to very nearly die. He survived COVID-19 and his journey is far from over. READ MORE: Victims Of Unemployment Scam Told By IDES To Pay Back Money They Never Received Or It Will Be Taken From Their Tax Returns With a new surge in COVID cases, Jason has a message. He says COVID is still a deadly threat and we all must take it seriously. “It was a scariest thing ever that has ever happened to me,” He said. Barbosa was used to being fit, a young husband and father and he was active and full of life. All of that changed last May. “It was a Tuesday, I still went to work that night for like an hour, but I was really, really sick,” He said. ” I just couldn’t breathe no more.” An ambulance took him to Central DuPage Hospital’s COVID unit, where doctors told him he needed a ventilator. “I still remember during my last words to my grandparents and my parents calling them and telling them the procedures,” Barbosa said. But that ventilator wasn’t enough, his organs were starting to fail. Desperate, his doctors had one last, and risky, option which was an “ECMO.” This a machine that would work as his’s heart and lungs, giving him time to heal. “We stopped their heart and lungs from working and we have to have a backup plan to circulate blood, through their body,” Dr. Jonathan Tomasko, cardiac surgeon, said. And the patient must be totally still. “We use a paralyzing medication, which basically decreases the total amount of action that the body uses,” Dr. Jeffrey Huml, critical care physician, said. READ MORE: One Person Killed In I-57 Shooting Near Vollmer Road In Matteson As one problem seemed solved, others arose. Severe bleeding, infections and inflammation became issues. “On more than one occasion we we had to consider withdrawing the life sustaining technology,” Huml said. The doctors prepared Jason’s family to say goodbye, three separate times. “There was not a whole lot more medically we were able to do, but we were able to wake up Jason at that point,” Tomasko said. Barbosa pulled off something no one expected. “He started taking big deep breaths with his lungs and he started coughing out all the blood clots and all the other sickness that was in his lungs,” Tomasko said. But his journey would still take twists and turns. When he left the hospital, when he left the hospital, he was still very sick. He was still requiring oxygen through a tracheostomy along with other issues. “I thought i wasn’t gonna be able to talk, no more,” Barbosa said. “The first time I tried to put my feet on the ground, I almost fell.” But his determination is paying off. He’s been proud to show his medical team his progress. Although it’s still tough, Barbosa says he’s happy to be back on his feet and so grateful to his doctors and nurses.
