S Classes That I Raised (Manhwa) & Demon Slayer Crossover Writing Prompt
The Dungeon Break happens when Yoojin is 19, Yoohyun 14. Two years afterwards, during his military service while Yoojin is in the middle of his patrol, a portal opens beneath Yoojin. Han Yoojin falls in. The portal closes.
Han Yoojin finds himself in Japan, attacked by a demon. He sees the children it was originally targeting and fury runs through him. A fury that gives him the strength to fight the demon with his military provided gun and sword, all dungeon built. Somehow he fights off the demon until the sun rises. A Demon Slayer finally arrives. Han Yoojin wakes after passing out from his wounds to find himself in a Wisteria House, the children safely returned to their homes. He learns that he has somehow become 14 years old again, is in Japan - great, he needs to learn an entire language - and he learns about the world of Demons and Demon Slayer. He also realizes that he's missing some of his memories and it has been a lot longer than 2 years since the Dungeon Break Incident compared to what he knew. 2 years had passed, 2 years of his life gone and he isn't even the correct age to mourn those lost years. With no way home and the Demon Slayer Corps working on expanding anyways thanks to the Dungeons which allowed the Demons to expand outside of Japan, Han Yoojin becomes Hansu Yuji (he can't be connected to his brother, he can't) and joins the Demon Slayer Corps. He becomes a Flame and Mist Breather (trained by Flame, Mist is easier on his lungs. He switches between the two to trip up enemies with dual katanas). Yuji doesn't get the opportunity to return home until he becomes a Hashira (something between Flame and Mist for his title I guess?). The first Demon Slayer, first Hashira, with an international case. 15 year old Hansu Yuji sets foot in Seoul, South Korea, 5 years since the Dungeon Break.
And the world bares witness to a demon and Demon Slayer fighting. They hear the Demon taunt the Demon Slayer - "the demon slayer with no home, no family, unloved and unwanted." The Korean Demon Slayer who shed his own name. The nobody who fought so hard to be someone only to have to fight in the shadows and in dead of night, unable to be recognized because that would jeopardize the mission. The Demon Slayer who needs two Breathing Styles just to match with his fellow Slayers (just for that comment Yuji puts away his second sword and fights the Demon with nothing but his Mist technique for the rest of the battle against the Lower Moon). If Yuji had been aware of the cameras livestreaming the battle, perhaps he wouldn't have spoken a single word, perhaps he would have fought harder to ensure his cloak haori kept his uniform covered, instead of dropping it to avoid further damage. Same for his mask. It's a good thing he passes out after the battle the moment the Kakushi arrive and that the Kakushi were quick to end the video and get him out of there. He apologizes profusely to Oyakata-sama upon being visited by him in a Korean hospital a week later.

toshiro is also autistic and clearly envies how much laios doesn't mask and is able to say whatever he's thinking outright (he literally says so after their fight). and he was raised as like a minor lord or whatever in feudal japan so he learned to mask early on and that combination of masking + raised in a high-context culture + being in a foreign land with different etiquette means that he'll go through herculean levels of discomfort to not upset any perceived group balance and only snaps when he's like three days away from dropping dead. which is also something he sees in falin btw and is a big reason why he's drawn to her. imo

[Concept Review] Necromancy Skills & Dungeon Break Worlds
Tumblr media
By: Peggy Sue Wood | @pswediting
Note: This post is less of an analysis/review and more of me just trying to make sense of all the dungeon breaks with Necromancer Main Characters that I’ve been reading lately. Regardless, I hope you enjoy:
There are so many dungeon break comics out now, and consistently I have seen main characters steming out from the Necromancer Class rather than any other. Solo Leveling, Seoul’s Necromancer Station, Necromancer Survival, Kill the Hero, and I stole the number 1 rankers soul are just a few in the continuously growing list that begin with this premise: dungeon break world + weak necromancer class/skill + time = Super Saiyan Necromancer soon enough.
Even works where the MC does not have a necromancer class or skill in a Dungeon Break world usually end up with some death-related skill quickly after the story starts. There are exceptions, but there are enough necromancing main characters out there for it to be considered a trope.
In a world filled with dungeons and danger at every turn, it’s important to have a diverse skill set to survive, and I suppose that being able to raise the dead would be a great advantage given how many people die during dungeon breaks. With it, you have a diverse skills set too, such as the ability to communicate with and/or control the dead. This could let gather information, create a protection team or cannon fodder, sometimes necromancers even gain additional abilities or their summons do, allowing them to create team supports, such as healers and tanks. The genre is known for its focus on action and adventure, with elements of fantasy, power-leveling, and battles, and seems to work well for this class.
Of course, there are some risks associated with necromancy. The dead don’t always obey your commands, or they may have their own agendas that could put you in danger. There’s always the risk of angering the gods or other powerful entities by meddling with the natural order of things. However, that really depends on the author and what they make of the story. Right now, it seems to be that necromancy skills can be an invaluable asset in a dungeon-break world.
It’s kind of fun to read and interesting to see the many different ways the creators approach the use of such skills in their unique settings, don’t you think?
If you know of any other titles with this concept, please let me know!

all things succumb to “the curtains are blue” disease but acting like dungeon meshi wasn’t always reflective and intentional about its worldbuilding and characters is so dumb. “it got deep all of a sudden!!” as if it didn’t also portray how hierarchies affect our understanding the world, and what organisms must do to survive, and the complexities of nature, and the cycle of life and death and rebirth. it just happens to also be about sharing delicious sweet treats with friends. two things can be true at once
