Today’s mood is Duke MacGahan. Couldn’t help but draw him again. The idea of having Duke as the other protags’ guide without them realizing that he’s just a soul just has my brain in its tight fist.

Inktober 2017 - Day 8: Crooked

Today’s mood is indulging in your AUs.

“As if I’d tell a shady group of strangers like you my real name.”

“You can call me, D. Now what are your names?”

This is a highly self-indulgent AU that takes place after The Hanged Man. To keep things brief, while having a big vacation together with the Grundlers, The Barings, David, Shirley and The Mortons, one thing led to another and a curse had trapped David in deep sleep. 

The other three Strange Men protagonists found themselves transferred to a different plane of existence, in that the Ski Resort they went to suddenly became empty and a strange monster with a crooked neck started chasing after them. Something kidnaps David’s unconscious body. They explore the area to search for David with a monster breathing diwn their necks. While running and hiding from the strange monster, they meet a mysterious person who calls himself “D”.

Keith finds him familiar but for some reason the name escapes him no matter how hard he wracks his brain.

THIS IS BASICALLY AN EXCUSE TO HAVE A NON-BROKEN NECK DUKE AROUND.

Do you think after the whole ghostly thing is over, and David's life is back to normal and better than ever, he sometimes wanders onto the rooftop, pulls out a pack of cigarettes, and thinks about the stuff that happened?

About the fact that he almost lost himself but didn’t is a proof that Duke could also make it, if only he wasn't alone. Because along with an evil spirit David also had another spirit following him and guiding him. And David probably knows that there's nothing he could have done to save Duke, because they didn't know each other when he was alive. But it's still so bittersweet, because if Duke hadn’t got his happy ending then he sure as hell didn't have to help David get his, but he did anyway.

(Ghost Duke is probably floating somewhere beside him, while David's sitting on the rooftop making this expression, with a mellow but somber expression of his own.)

(And this indeed isn't a happy ending but it's not the worst one either.)
