One thing I find really interesting in Dune (the book especially. I don’t think this was explored as much in any of the film adaptations), is the themes of identity and loss of it.
Especially with Paul there are a lot of moments where he thinks of himself almost as seperate people. He is Paul Atreides the son of Leto Atreides and the duke of Arrakis. He is also a Bene Gesserit, the Kiwisatz Haderach. He is also a Fremen, a messiah, a father, a son and a husband.
All of these different parts of him exist at the same time but are contrary to each other in motives. I think that incredible amount of inner conflict is what makes him into what he becomes at the end of the book.
