Congratulations Karla Torres, winner of the duct tape prom dress contest! This dress is made entirely of duct tape!
Her mind-blowing dress also went viral on social media, helping her earn the most online votes in the competition, Duck Brand said.
Her pink pastel gown, highlighted with pops of gold, was inspired by 18th-century French art. It also featured a custom duct-tape handheld fan and matching clutch.
Torres is a recent graduate of Francisco Bravo Medical Magnet High School in Los Angeles. She plans to attend college and major in business marketing, with hopes of eventually pursuing a career in the fashion industry.

kinda torn bc on the one hand i really like the way i look and it feels and looks cool but on the other hand others also think it's cool and punk started out with freaks and absolute crumbs and i yearn to channel that energy. if only to provoke people and norms and shit. because i don't feel like i'm doing that enough
#or maybe i dont notice#when i last kept out an eye i did catch a handful of people lookin at me weird#BUT STILL#i just saw a picture of the clash recently and that is Not fashion. and i love that#idk i just need to get weirder#a biscuit's rambles#not like i just sewed a bunch of can open thingies to my jacket and a 'dyke' and 'queer as in fuck u'#and am gonna repair the part of my leather jacket that peels itself with duct tape#STILL

Alexander McQueen's First press coverage by Richard Burbridge for Sky Magazine Spring (1993).
In need of press coverage- McQueen and Burbridge came up with the idea of using gaffer tape to hide
Mcqueen's identity because At the time he was living off of unemployment benefits and did not want social security to find out.

None of my friends have succumbed to my attempts to get them to watch Hornblower with me (YET) but I've brought up this moment enough to different people (usually while obsessing over historical fashion) that I was compelled to make GIFs of it.
Eventually, everyone in close proximity to me will have seen Every Ioan Gruffudd Hornblower film in GIF form, perhaps a more attainable goal than persuading people to sit down and watch eight entire films with me.
I don't think I've ever had so much second hand anxiety while watching a film than I had watching poor Horatio prepare for a fancy dinner. I felt the terror about carving meats DEEP IN MY SOUL.
#Horatio WHAT ARE YOU DOING???#To be fair#It worked#horatio hornblorbo#He really duct taped that oakum to his legs and called it fashion#work bitch#horatio hornblower

Tbh as much as I love Tumblr, it's been kind of a frustrating place to spend time on for me lately. The main reason is how often I see people mock a post or set of tags that I feel like I could have easily written myself under only slightly different circumstances.
I'm a big fan of careful dashboard curation, but this isn't something where I can easily identify repeat offenders to unfollow. Sometimes the post even comes with additional reblogs that are critical of the part that bothered me, so the person who put it on my dash hasn't actually done anything wrong. Sometimes it was never on my dash to begin with and I found it while going through the notes of a post.
This isn't particularly new or unique to Tumblr. But compared to Twitter, where I was following much fewer people even before I deleted my public account, or Pillowfort, where adding your own commentary to a reblog is not an option, I do see more of it here and I guess in recent years it's been compounded by a lack of positive interactions to make up for it.
I used to have, like, fans on here. Never more than maybe two vocal ones and a quiet one at the same time, but there used to be people who really enjoyed my original posts - even the extremely personal ramblings. It gave me the impression that my words had meaning, that I was occasionally funny, that the things I worried might be "cringe" weren't so bad after all. Now there's not enough of that left to balance out the negative.
It's like I'm experiencing rejection-sensitive dysphoria towards an entire website. Awkward.
#like it's at a point where every time i add non-organisational tags to a reblog i worry op will be annoyed#because my tone is slightly off or they don't understand what I'm trying to express or i sound old-fashioned or unhinged#and idk what to do about that because the older i get the more i learn that i literally did sound unhinged in the past#or my posts were incomprehensible#so if it has happened before then it can happen again and I'd be fine with that if i could just get rid of the fear that it's#which was apparently being held in check by occasional positive interactions and duct tape this whole time#weirdo chronicles#brain stuff#edit: *that it's CONSTANT#idk why tumblr ate a word

the AVAVAV shows look SO fun from a runway standpoint like the last two szns have been so interesting and innovative and do seem to say something about the state of fashion. i would not buy the clothes though ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
#i mean i couldn't AFFORD the clothes but still#for context this is the show last szn where everything started breaking and falling off the models#and by the last few looks the clothes were getting pulled off piece meal by wires it was sooo cool#this szn they made all their models act like they were being shoved onto the runway half dressed and they had run out of time#there was a girl wearing just a roll of duct tape#dorian electra walked for them this most recent show but weirdly enough their look didnt has as much impact for me as the others#hey why havent i gone to fashion week uet despite my lack of money and connectionsloke what gives

What a wonderful idea!
My only suggestion would be to do another few layers of tape going the other direction for thickness.
DIY Bat Shoe Wings made with duct tape, scissors, white pen, and pen knife.
Make a big sheet of duct tape by laying it out and making sure the creases face different ways so its less flimsy.
Then use white pen to draw out your bat wings template. Use your shoes to mark out the holes. Then cut out the holes with a pen knife and check if they fit. Wipe off pen with a lil acetone and qtip. Lace onto your shoes and ur good to go!
