DUCKMBER DAY 3: '87 Tribute
I know it's late but here is my DT87 tribute from 'Back to the Klondike' (of course lol). I used to draw DT87 Goldie all the time but it's been a while. It reminded me how much I love to draw in this style.

A very dumb crack theory.
OG Della not DT 17 Della is the female shadow figure of 90Darkwings FOWL High Command.
Reasons:
Tad said he envisioned the one who always talks a female
She’s a Duck
She is the only duck who we never see until DT17
I honestly think it would be funny.
If you have any questions ask me. It was just a funny thought.

☕ DuckTales87 vs DuckTales17
Phew, this is a big one, isn't it?
I can flat out come out and say, I prefer DT17.
I don't know whether it's the style thing, the stories, the characters (Ok, that probably IS a big one), the moment I decided to watch each show, but I like the reboot better.
I did not grow up with DT87, but I did watch it in high school, at the age of 16 or 17. I liked it, I still remember some of the episodes.
But I prefer the style and energy of the reboot. It might just be a generational thing because it's the style similar to a lot of modern cartoons, something I'm just more used to. It might juts be a preference.
As I said, the characters are a big one. Scrooge and probably Gyro were my favourite characters in DT87. And Goldie, in what little time she had on screen. Webby was a cute character but a bit, how to put it without it sounding weird...overly cutesy? I mean I don't mind shy, cutesy characters. Fluttershy is my third favourite character in MLP for a reason, but I think it's just the way Webby was presented. Beakley was ok, but a bit stereotypical, same as HDL.
Meanwhile, when you ask me "Who is your favourite DT17 character?" you will probably receive a panicked look, followed by a strange, non-committal sound. I have to think because I find them all SO interesting. I like what they did with HDL, that is also a big plus for DT17.
One thing I will give to DT87 is LP. I think they dumbed down LP in DT17 a bit too much.
But I will also be fair and say, this is not a fair fight. I have not seen DT87 in almost 8 years. And when I did, I binged it all in a few weeks.
DT17, on the other hand, had 4 years to simmer in my head and some of the best parts of it, some of the episodes of the first half of S3, hit at just the right time for me. And I hyperfixated on it and the rest is history, most of which is documented here and on AO3.
This is a very rambly answer, but I was inspired to write it down, however, it's late, and my brain is mush, and I'm sleepy and I rewrote it three times so I hope it makes even a bit of sense.
I will finally say that, had I not seen DT87, I might have not decided to give DT17 a chance. So yeah, it's still very important to me, in a way.
No conclusion here. I'm bad at writing conclusions. Least favourite part of writing any paper. So...yeah!

So, whoever answered the letters to the editor for this edition of the old DuckTales comics completely ripped this woman apart for sending in a Webby hate-mail... They even continued to make fun of her when answering the next question...
Also, the person who wrote the mail saying she hated Webby also said Bubba was okay, so I suppose she's not the best judge of character.

First of all, I like the DT17 well enough. Sure, there are parts I don’t like, but it’s a fun cartoon that mostly makes me chuckle. However, it is easy to see that it has more to offer to those who were fans of the original Ducktales87 cartoon before the comics. For me, who has never in my life watched a single whole episode of DT87, it is sometimes frustrating. But on the other hands the comics also lack a certain...possibility for continuity and development that the TV show is allowed to have.
So, sometimes I like to play a game where I wonder what I would come up with if a Disney executive burst through my door, held me at gunpoint, and told me to come up with a TV series pitch that catered specifically only to my tastes.
So this is what I think I would stutter while looking up at the home-invading, gun slinging, Disney producer.
Open on modern 21st century Duckburg, with Donald Duck taking care of his three nephews, in a city which skyline is dominated by the moneybin, an old and clearly abandoned building surrounded fences and keep out signs. We follow the boys and Donald through an average day in their life, quickly introducing some of the family and friends that they have.
Harking back to the intro in the last chapter of life and times, we see a documentary style introduction to Scrooge McDuck. Scrooge McDuck who mysteriously disappeared in the 1940, leaving behind an impenetrable moneybin, (he had been the only person in the building when he disappeared and no one has managed to step foot inside ever since) a business empire that got liquidated (because there was no one to take over the reins, his sisters wanted nothing to do with it and there was no will), and a lingering mystery about what exactly happened to the richest duck in the world.
Now the triplets, being adventurous kids, have decided to finally take a crack at the mystery, having prepared a break into the closed off moneybin for a while now. It’s stupid dangerous, because everybody knows that the hill is off-limits for a reason, that reason being all the booby-traps and landmines that have injured all the would-be explorers until now.
But the triplets have managed to wheedle helpful equipment from their family friend Gyro Gearloose, a kind but not very respected crackpot inventor. Donald, being protective and stressed out dad that he is finds out and goes to stop the boys.
Several near-death experiences later, there comes a moment when for all of their surprises the half supernatural security lets them in after recognising them as Scrooge McDuck’s blood-relatives. News that come as a surprise to all of them. They after all never knew that great grandmother Hortense was née McDuck.
The triplets are of course over the moon after they realise that they are the first people in over fifty years setting foot inside the bin and an excited exploring montage commences with a notable disappointed at finding only empty offices and locked vaults. But then, in the heart of the bin, the head office with the biggest vault door, they find the remnants of something supernatural gone terribly wrong. After putting their smarts and sheer dumb-luck together, the Duck family manages to reverse whatever happened in the bin and an interdimensional time rift ends up spitting out a very much ALIVE Scrooge McDuck.
(And yes, this is obviously where the double episode break would occur)
Scrooge McDuck who in the 1940s, after having isolated himself completely from everybody, leading his entire business imperium all by himself, and defending his fortune from villains by himself too, had not surprisingly fucked up. The pressure had made him seek magical means for defending his bin, which had backfired terribly and locked him outside of time and space until his relatives released him.
The kids are obviously ecstatic, and Donald also if maybe more cautiously. Scrooge is not. He doesn’t trust anyone, least of all these complete strangers. Too bad for him that he is absolutely useless in the 21st century, no longer has his business empire, or even legal citizenship being declared dead for decades.
So now the Duck family finds themselves hosting the world’s most ridiculous and difficult relative who has decided to claim back his title as the world’s richest duck asap. (And he absolutely refuses to spend any of the cash gathered in the bin to do so, to Donald’s eternal bafflement).
And while trying to climb your way back up the business ladder in this new future is much harder than expected, the hardest part of Scrooge’s new life is not figuring out what internet is. It is the fact that somehow he has a family again, a family that genuinely seems to care and like him, even without his title as the world’s richest, and the question between pursuing your goal with single-minded determination and being the kind of person his new family can love and respect is not as easy as it once was.
And the whole arc of the first season would be about the conflict of Scrooge having to choose if he wants to repeat history as he did when he drove his sisters away, or if he can find a way to accomplish his goal without driving his family away this time.
Introducing, lot of confused time traveller jokes, Scrooge actually getting to be really cool and capable person who manages to get his victories even when starting from the underdog position, Donald and the kids actively teaching him to be a better person, and Scrooge making an actual effort to be a better person in a late-capitalist, postcolonial, global world.
The extended Duck family slowly adopts their new weird rich uncle as they get introduced to him, the villains crawl their way back. The beagle boy clan is constant amongst the eras, Magica is a witch and does not age and is excited to get a second change to nab the N.1 D. After all, it is the most powerful magical amulet of all time, but only when its owner is around to make it so, and Glomgold somehow crawls back from the grave just to kick Scrooge’s ass, because that’s just how he is.

So, hi! My name is Micah, I’m 19, and I made this tumblr specifically so I could stop spamming my mutuals timelines with Disney Duck content every time I decide to go deep diving through the tags 😅.
I’m hella into DuckTales17, Paperinik, The Three Caballeros, and Donald in general. I haven’t been able to get hooked on Quack Pack, and I lost my link for DuckTales87, but I’m sure I can find it again, it’s just getting the motivation to do so.
If there’s anything you want me to see, my inbox and asks is open, or you can tag me (although I have a hard time remembering to check that, so you may have to remind me every once in awhile to check 😅). I don’t expect this to get big or have a ton of interaction, but ya know. Figured it’s better to have this typed than just act like a *total* cryptid.

Muh favourite babes from Ducktales ‘87
If Svengali & Gladstone hadda baby basically and you’d have Filler Brushbill. They say he bears certain resemblances to Gladstone Gander. And apart from the local infamy, large bill, eccentric wardrobe, acting muse for Louie, unadulterated neutrality, & supernatural ability to separate you from your will...I don’t see it. Cinnamon Teal is probably the most recognizable one here even though I took liberties with her appearance. “Spies in their Eyes” gave Donald the most screen time and his interaction with this character is him when the boy can’t help it. She could’ve been a very unsuccessful character were it not for Huanani Minn’s performance and conjuring of Anna May Wong’s deep and slow accent. A recent viewing reinforced my love for this character. Smart, but not sinister or manipulative family-oriented but not bound or trapped. Cinnamon Teal was her own woman, but certainly someone people could’ve projected a fearsome reputation onto because she can do the thing with her eyes. I headcanon that she took advantage of that as she gained a reputation for extracting and selling secrets in her family’s restaurant front.
Meanwhile, in Australia... He appears in only one episode, “The Bad Guy Wore Uggs” “Back Out in the Outback”. DT ‘87 Scrooge’s Australian son. I don’t know what happened to these guys, but I swear they were more present when I was a kid. A type of boy that was better with critters than people, could survive in the wilderness and so authentic he could spot bullshit 16 km off. Wild, but responsible. Sundowner could’ve been that type of boy. The episode doesn’t short you the chance to get to know him. Without derailing the pacing by the end of the episode you know that he gives as good as he gets in a verbal match, is courageous but not to the point of unnecessary risk, dislikes or distrusts polished facade, loves his dog, can use a boomerang and his unkemptness can also been seen in his room. I’m a sucker for character development and design. Remove any one part of Sundowner’s costume and he still reads as a rugged outdoorsman from the interior. All of it feels very organic.
