Thinking about Wendy's first weeks in the Constant and the confusion she must've felt when she realized her tormentor looked identical to her father. I'll never buy into the idea that Maxwell and Wendy didn't recognize each other (well its possible Maxwell didn't realize it at first...but Wendy would've known almost immediately), and now I just wonder if Wendy realized it was her uncle, or if she spent an uncomfortable amount of time believing it was her father who betrayed her, who brought her into this world to suffer.

I think about Jack and Wendy a lot. About Wendy isolating herself from the world, confusing dreams for reality, obsessing over her grief until it killed her, until she ceased being Wendy and became Abigail's shadow. And I think about Jack, losing one of his daughters only for the other to reject him at every turn... watching her become a shell of her former self, and nothing he could do about it.

I think about their house. About the empty bed, the empty chair in the dining room, the untouched toys and clothes gathering dust in their boxes. I think about the silence. And it kills me.

How did Jack cope with his grief? Did he try to erase every trace of Abby's existence, pretend it never happened, and get angry at Wendy for bringing her up? Did he fall apart just as terribly, did they enable each other ? Did he shut down emotionally, stand stoic and solid, even as Wendy crumbled, refusing to share any tears, anger or comfort?

And did Wendy despise him for it? Did she lash out at him, blame him, wish he had died instead? Or did he simply disappear from her mind entirely, kicked out to make more room for Abigail...one night, after crying all the tears she could possibly shed, her eyes glazed over, incapable of seeing anything beyond her grief and sadness.

Im sure we'll know someday but until then....I can only wonder....

Bunch of DST headcanons for WX-78 cause I adore this automaton way too much and gotta ramble about them ⚙️🧡

Under Cut. Pretty long post there's honestly quite A LOT.

Never truly lost any of their memories from before they became an automaton, just suppresses them REALLY hard.

Massive cat person, one of the few living creatures they got a soft spot for. Too embarrassed to keep any though.

Absolutely can't cook for shit, really bad at it and barely tries. Tied with Willow for most kitchen fires.

Enjoys baked goods a lot! Got a bit of a sweet tooth. It's the real reason they love butter muffins so much.

Has two different types of laughs. One being a sarcastic very monotone “HA HA HA” they use just to mock others, and a genuine more “human” like chuckle they’ll make when they actually find something funny. The genuine one however also sounds really jank and glitchy though cause their voice wasn’t built for it.

Uses binary code as a second language of sorts. Switches to it when they wanna say something but don’t want the others to actually understand them. They also tend to switch to binary involuntary when they are either really excited or incredibly anxious.

Suffers from Talassophobia (fear of large bodies of water). They’re ironically fine with water itself, but are terrified of things like being in the ocean, and had this issue even back when they were still human. They are actually really good at hiding it though, unless they KNOW they are gonna fall in.

Was actually sent to The Constant back around when Maxwell was still on the throne. They ended up becoming a pawn and got the same treatment as all the others when they antagonized and pissed Maxwell off while he interrogated them.

They were never actually designed to do human like things such as eating or sleeping, nor should things like getting sick or healing from food/medicine be possible for them. They got no idea where these abilities came from and it WORRIES them. Blames it on The Constant’s weirdness to ease their mind.

They didn’t really have much of a family when they were human, which led them to grow a habit of labeling their fellow machines as family. They didn’t have a mom at all growing up, which is why they insist on viewing the science machine as their mom instead.

Back when they were human, they used to consider Wagstaff as their only real friend, which makes the betrayal hurt so much more.

Is the most fond of Winona out of the whole camp. She's the only one they will even slightly admit to care about, but would never say it out loud. (She can tell ❤️)

Also decently gets along with Willow and Wendy quite well. Willow cause of her destructive and chaotic nature, and Wendy due to her more downer look on life/living and being the most chill out of the children.

Ironically, their love language (as in how they SHOW love) is actually act of service. If they genuinely like/care about you enough they will be willing to tackle certain tasks for you (though they'll deny it and get a bit snappy if you even point it out).

Asexual, but not necessarily aromantic. They actually could feel romantic attraction in some rare situations, but they are very romance repulsed and will likely never act on those feelings even if they have em

I’m yelling into the void a bit more about Don’t Starve, don’t mind me. Specifically about Wilson, his medical know-how, his weird relationship with death, and the origin of his Forbidden Knowledge.

Let’s start with the easy one, Wilson being medically trained.

To start, Wilson’s quote for the Peg Leg.

Then in the Forge, Wilson’s special ability is to revive his teammates twice as fast with more health.

Wilson’s Victorian Skin is an old-timey doctor, even mentioning the four humors (even if that practice was far outdated by the Victorian Era).

I remember once seeing a quote about Wilson getting kicked out of a school for setting something on fire, but take that with a grain of salt because I am struggling to find it.

Now onto Wilson’s weirdness with death of his fellow man.

It’s clear the Constant has left him quite jaded with death as a concept, which is very fair.

But you cannot tell me that a man with a normal view of death would find a skeleton under the floorboards of his new house and just…put the boards back. Or hell, that skeleton is very likely to be the one we see strung up in Wilson’s lab in the very first short!

There’s also Wilson’s quote for Skeletons from Don’t Starve classic:

As well as his disregard for the sanctity of graves.

So yeah. He isn’t normal about human death, just like how he isn’t exactly normal about science.

Wilson is confirmed to be the creator of several items that everyone is able to craft and use.

Obviously the Meat Effigy, but it doesn’t stop there.

Maxwell isn’t particularly enthused about the Think Tank:

The Booster Shot is another item he’s very likely to have made, seeing as he’s the only one truly enthusiastic about it. Further connects him to his medical know-how, as well.

From the Survival Tips, Wilson is also very likely to be the one to have made the first Telltale Heart.

Revive: “We nearly lost one of our numbers today. In a mad daze I created…something…that managed to pull our friend back to the land of the living, but…whatever it was, I fear I cannot rightfully say it was within the realm of science…” -W

Gardeneer: “I’ve finally perfected my design for an ingenious (if I do say so myself) device that stores important garden-based knowledge. Certain naysayers might point out that it looks like nothing more than an overturned flowerpot worn on the head…some people simply don’t have an eye for science.” -W

The tips are (almost) all signed with a W, but it’s clear who wrote these ones, especially since Wilson wore the Gardeneer hat during the Reap What You Sow trailer.

That hat leads me to my next point. It is something that Wilson made, he invented it.

Then tell me why you are able to upgrade it at the Ancient Pseudoscience Station, when literally everything else you can do at it is craft fully ancient artifacts?

And doesn’t the storage of knowledge sound eerily familiar? Such as…

Whatever depths Maxwell snagged Wilson’s Forbidden Knowledge from, it definitively has origins with the Ancients.

Which…

…is quite concerning.

Analysis of Wortox’s feelings towards his curse

A crazy rant by penini because I love him so much

For starters, we know his only true source of food are souls. Mortal food and its effects are halved when ingested by Wortox. When he has no souls he says “I don't want to suck anymore souls!" and “What gruesome things I must do to live!" When he kills too much and has an abundance of souls, he loses half of them and loses 20 sanity (eating souls also lowers his sanity by 5). I think his quote to a buzzard sums up what he believes of himself. “It doesn’t want to feed on death. It just has to.” is a reflection on his way of eating (sobbing and crying at this quote 💔). He hates that he has to kill in order to eat, dreading the moment he gets hungry and says “oh no, I’m hungry again.” I think the reason he gains some sanity by letting go of them to heal is because it’s a way to show mercy/give those poor unfortunate souls peace. He also never fails to apologize to the dead corpses of mobs, no matter if they are hostile or not.

I want to move on to his curse stored in his hands! He is extremely conscious of it whenever he holds any animal in his inventory. I headcanon that he holds the same worry when interacting with his fellow survivors, so he doesn’t really like giving hugs or high fives (Even if in some art and shorts he is able to hold them… shhhh). I like to think he was gifted gloves by Charlie or Wes, but he’s never seen the purpose of clothing (“I don’t usually wear gloves” to the lone glove) so he was a bit confused. They are special and disguise his curse so he doesn’t have to worry abt his curse for the time being :3 (so Elsa coded) idc if it’s farfetched for him to easily “cure” the curse on his hands just by wearing gloves, I want him happy…

He is a complex imp and I am totally NOT a Wortox expert. I just think it’s very interesting :3 like yeah I get he is the soul starved but also I don’t think he’s very joyous to eat/collect souls as a few interpretations I’ve seen have depicted.
