The Czolgosz parts of Gun Song from Assassins is giving me feelings about Megatron and I feel like I am having a mental breakdown because I don't have intense blorbo feelings about Main Antagonists

But when lyrics about:

the death that goes into making a gun even before it has been fired

are sung suddenly it's intense feelings about Megatron time

And previously when I heard songs about mining/labor issues it's more a long the lines of huh reminds me of Megatron

I lay part of the blame @sunderedstar 's feet because the meta about Megatron's identity has been living rent free in the crawl spaces in the back of my head for years.

(The rest of Gun Song is generally Decepticon-applicable but more in an essay I'd write about it if I knew canon better)

AND HE WROTE LAMP#all mere half a season before the finale#and to add to op's point. s15 is very cohesive and SUCH a huge part of it is about not just destiel in general#but specifically how dean feels about cas#dabb oversaw this stuff u guys. also he appointed two openly gay men as executive producers as well as prominent writers#dabb isnt the enemy. tptb are (@i-have-doubts)

askjfhab sdfkh it never even occurred to me that they would have tried to pair Dean off with a blurry wife. Then again, I also started watching post-finale so I already knew he died and didn't end up with anyone. But yeah. Since that entire finale was just in service of walker, I'm curious when they decided on the version of the ending that they did. Because I think they dropped the "roadhouse" ending fairly early. There's a months-long gap between script writing and filming and we have multiple actors saying that they were never contacted about doing cameo appearances prior to the shut down. The only episodes left to film before the shut down were 15x19 and 15x20 so if they hadn't been contacted yet then the roadhouse ending can't have made it too far, like these actors wouldn't have just gotten a call a week before. Maybe the roadhouse ending was their first response to a network edict about no destiel?

For the finale that could have been, I will take a guess and say that I think 15x10 Heroes' Journey is probably along the lines of the ending that Dabb wanted and pretty explicitly lays out Dean wanting to retire. Which is also said in other episodes Dabb wrote! PLUS! LAMP!! Also... with some tweaks... the front half of s15 tells a complete story. The spell just needs to kill Chuck instead of being a dud that he made up. There are episodes after 15x10 that I like but it basically would have been: divorce -> taking time apart -> Dean apologizing/reconciliation -> defeating Chuck -> happy ending

But yeah it just kinda drives me bananagrams to have people talk about how Dabb was a bad writer and had no clue what he was doing which is why he wrote the finale Like That but actually also he wrote the finale like that intentionally bc he hates destiel. Which! You can't have it both ways! And no matter how incompetent a (co)showrunner is, they would not allow an episode like 15x04 Atomic Monsters that trashes their finale point for point to happen unless they approved.

it's actually super interesting bc i've found posts from when dabb took over and people seemed to actually be looking forward to him as showrunner because of his s8-10 writing. which holy fuck his s10 episodes were good.

there's plenty to criticize about dabb like his treatment of asian characters/culture is uh. Not Great Yikes! but overall his writing is solid and he had a skilled if non-diverse writers' room (which is a related issue). He didn't just bring in a ton of useless hack writers and it seems like they had a lot of creative freedom so long as they stayed in particular lanes.

and okay i'm just rambling now but basically yeah. there's no way carry on was the ending he wanted and for some ppl just assume it was all him and not like. the network's own agenda and the very specific pressures exerted by networks and execs to get their creatives to comply.

Not to get on my dabbnatural shit this early on a Sunday but Dabb eps (and Dabb-Loflin to a degree) do have an internal thematic consistency. His episodes feel inconsistent bc he has the story he wants to tell and what he wants to explore but it's not always the same thing that everyone else is doing. For sure this causes issues with thematic cohesion over the course of a season but when you break his episodes apart from others'... he really is working towards something with a hell of a lot of potential. And like idk. Is it that he's too much of a hack to pull it off? But then you have episodes like Reichenbach and the diptych of All Along the Watchtower / Lost & Found and so many others. He's written some of the key destiel scenes people will pull from. There was definitely a lot of network meddling which makes me think everything got completely hamstrung by the network and market research results because s12 is on fucking fire.

So did they just let him do whatever in s12 and then as a result of the market research, clamped down on a lot of things? Is it an issue where the network didn't have confidence in him? Like, Singer was co-showrunner so idk. What does that say? He'd been writing for spn for eight years at that point, he may not have been a showrunner before that but he had experience with that show.

Saw a stupid ad that reminded me of this but I have always disliked the Typography of the Harry Potter titles and I don't know why.

I like metallics, some of my favorite superheroes have lightning bolt imagery, I like serif fonts in context. I just find it snappibly thin and busy.

I don't have a visible bookmarks toolbar even though I have the option selected (it sucks going five menus deep for a properly organized bookmark when one hand cramp can cause you to start from scratch)

Speaking of, I am completely unable to make new folders to organize bookmarks

And I had to troubleshoot extentions to even access the intenet.
