Prologue:

My bones ached.

Was it from the running?

Was it from the stumbling?

The cuts, scrapes and festering bruises that now marred my skin did little to assuage my worries. With the pregnant moon hanging yellowed and glorious in the speckled night sky, I knew something was wrong. It had to be, right?

Pressing a numbed palm against a nearby trunk of a spruce, I looked up at that moon through slit eyelids. This is your doing…. As the ache began to spread, I checked my six, sniffing the air for any sign of the bastards that had been trailing after me. I could still smell them, but their scents were weak. Had they simply fallen behind? Or had I managed to get far enough ahead that they stopped their chase altogether?

I was out of breath, and there was an irritating hitch in my side.

“What the fuck….” Taking that moment, I turned and pressed my back up against that tree. “Why is this happening to me?” It was a question I’d been asking myself often lately.

First the dormitory fiasco, then the cafeteria… now this? What did I do to deserve this? Nothing. That’s what. Unlike that sister of mine, I’ve been the perfect wallflower. Keeping to myself, doing my own thing, keeping up with my studies…. Oh right. Fucking biology.

Why did I have to be born an Omega… why couldn’t I have been a Beta instead! This was so stupid. Everyone assumed just because my sister loved the attention from being born Omega, that as her twin I, somehow, automatically would too. How wrong they were. I hated it… I wanted nothing to do with the whole debacle. Hence the suppressants… the same ones I’d just run out of and forgotten to replace.

I sighed. Gods fucking damnit.

I felt the breeze shift over my skin and a familiar scent washed into my nose. Shit…
