Might as well show my interpretation of Blue Ink/Shinobu from Togami’s light novel trilogy. Here Togami makes an expression he normally wouldn’t make.

Evil Prosecutor - Junko (You'd never think a fashionista would have time to pass the bar exam, but Junko found a way...mostly by bribes and fucking. Lots of fucking. The biggest disappointment with DR3 was the lack of involvement from the mass of the universe that was created. The fact it didn’t have anything DR0 (beside the shitty cameos), DRTogami, DRHagakure, Killer Killer or any other people from UDG hurt the most.

I honestly why so many light novela bases in manga,anime,jrpg AND visual novels something retreat of original almost like waste of time.you know dangaronpa complaining innaccessible reading lights novela danganronpa but hack.., BlazBlue,kingdom hearts,reading last drtogami volumen was left,dissapointed Condused and overall empty.

If I’m understanding you correctly, you feel like a lot of light novels don’t expand on the source text and instead are condensed novelizations, or else re-hash the same basic structure of the original to the point of feeling derivative, right?

I’m assuming you’re talking about DRT2 with it having what ends up becoming a killing game? I can see having a point there, since death games have started giving off an air of being common thanks to all the entries in the series. For me, the competition in DRT2 is different enough from the standard to not bother me, but I could see how it might.

Would you prefer to see a continuation of the story in light novel format? I can see why that would be appealing but from a marketing and franchising standpoint, I don’t know if it’s the kind of thing that would actually happen. There’s a hierarchy of media based on ability to reach and draw in an audience, which would have anime series at the top, with films right below, followed by video games and manga series and so on. Light novels would probably come in the lower middle of that diagram, because humans are just creatures that have an easier time getting into things with pictures and sound (plus it’s difficult to gauge the average time investment for reading a book–anime and films have run times, games publish how many hours they take to complete on average, etc. but books are kind of a gamble in that regard).

So it’s kind of tough for me to feel disappointed in spin-off novels since I go into them with the understanding that they are supplementary and will not fill the same role as a main series installment such as a game, anime, or whatever. 

(Movies are a bit tricky here–they certainly have a high level of audience draw, but for series that began life as manga, anime, or games, movies often take on a kind of big-budget filler episode or a Where Are They Now nostalgic romp, rather than a true adaptation or plot-related installment.)

Danganronpa

Uzun zamandır yine yazmak istediğim bir inceleme benzeyen bu yazıyı yazmak istiyordum. Yazı genel değil söylenecek şeyler değil de daha çok kendi görüşlerim ön planda olacak.

Danganronpa orijinal olarak bir oyun ve bir oyundan başlayıp bir çok kola ayrılan bir seri haline geldi. Danganronpa başlama şeklim şu şekilde oldu. Ben yıllar önce Danganronpa 1 animesini izleyip oyunlarına hiç el atmamıştım. Her şey Danganronpa 3 anime serileri çıktığında başladı. DR1 izledikten sonra Junko karakteri çok ilgimi çekmiş sevmiştim ama kendisi pek fazla içli dışı görememiştim. Danganronpa 3 Junko daha çok iyi tanıyınca sevdim direk fanı oldum üstüne bir de Danganronpa Zero okuyunca her şeyin tuz ve biberi oldu. Sonra gidip oyunlarını oynadım.

Danganronpa başlamak isteyenler için biraz izleme ve oynama kısmı karışık gelebilir.

Yukarıdaki tüm Danganronpa sezonları oyunları sevdim ama aralarından DR2 oyunu ve DR3 Zetsubou ile DR0 çok sevdim. Enoshima Junko fanı olduğum halde DR1 değil de DR2 oyununu daha çok sevdim. Hikaye ortam karakter bakımından bana göre daha güzeldi. DR3 Zetsubou kısmını çok sevdim ama Mirai kısmı hiç güzel değildi ama Kibou kısmı güzeldi.

Tek tek bütün oyunlarına değinmeyeceğim ama Danganronpa Zero özel olarak değinmek istiyorum.

Danganronpa Zero

Konusu Kibogamine Gakuen de hafızası olmayan bir kızın Otonashi Ryouko ile  baş karakter olması ile başlıyor. Onun hafızasını getirmeyen çalışan Matsuda Yasuke de baş erkek karakteri. Ama hikaye bundan çok daha fazlası çok fazla değişik şeyleri içinde barındırıyor.

Danganronpa 3 Zetsubou-hen

DR2 deki karakterin geçmişi anlatıldığı tv serisi. DR2 karakterler çok eğlenceli yan yana gelince kesin gülünecek şeyler oluyor. Sırf komedi animesi olarak ilk iki bölüm gibi koca bir sezon anime yapsalar oturup yine izlerdim. Serinin ending şarkısını şu an bile izlesem tekrar görüntüler ve şarkı yüzünden duygulanıyorum.

Favori Karakterim

Aslında Danganronpa daki bir numaralı favori karakterim konusunda kararsızıme o yüzden Junko ve Matsuda arka arkaya sıralasam da aynı birinci sıraya koyuyorum.

Enoshima Junko

Yukarıda da yazdığım gibi zaten DR1 deki en ilgimi çeken karakterdi sonra dan DR3 ve DR0 okuyunca çok sevdim. Junko bir çok değişik kişiliği var ama ben en çok kendi kişiliği seviyorum. Kendi kişiliği DR3 de çok ön plan da olması hoşuma gitmişti. Çok eğlenceli bir düşman karakter verdiği tepkiler çok komik. Tüm karakteri malipüle edebiliyorum çok güçlü bir bayan karakter. Hani benim için zaten DR3 yüzünden serideki en sevdiğim karakter olabilecekti ama DR0 ile bunu fazlalaştırdı. Onla ilgili bir sürü şey yazabilirim ama sayfalar yeterli olmaz.

Matsuda Yasuke

Benim için zirvenin diğer sahibi de Matsuda dır. Genelde Matsuda kişiliğinde karakteri çok severim ama Matsuda bir başka hoşuma gitti. Çok huysuz sivri dilli bir kişiliği var. Verdiği cevaplar çevresindekilere verdiği tepkiler hoşuma gidiyor. Saç stili de çok hoşuma gidiyor. Okul üniformasını giymesi bile ayrı bir hoş. Kirpiklerinden söz bile etmiyorum. Junko da Ryouko olan ilişkisini çok seviyorum. Junko ile Matsuda çocukluk hallerini izlemek yada okumak çok isterdim neyseki DR0 az da olsa bahsediyorlar. Tüm Danganronpa baş karakteri olduğu gibi saçında ahoge de bulunmaktadır.

Nanami Chiaki

DR2 karakteri arasında en çok ilgimi çeken karakterden biriydi. DR3 deki ilk bölümlerde direk sevmeye başlamıştım. Tüm arkadaşları bir araya toplaması liderliği güzel ama oyundaki Nanami de seviyorum. Çok oyun oynamak da uyuklaması da çok tatlı.

Hinata Hajime (Kamukura Izuru)

Aslında Hinata dan çok Kamukura Izuru seviyorum ama ikisinin bir araya gelmesi de ortaya çok hoş bir kişilik bıraktı. Hinata DR3 Zetsubou daki yeteneğinin olmamasına saplantısı hiç hoşuma gitmiyordu ama DR2 deki oyunun içindeki Hinata çok sevdim. DR3 deki Kamukura da ses tonu olsun up uzun saçları olsun çok hoştu.

Tanaka Gundam

Bayan karakterin chuunibyou hallerini bir çok anime de gördük ama erkek karakter olarak Tanaka da görmek güzeldi. Çok eğlenceli bir karakter çevresi ile alakası yok gibi gözüküyor ama epey alakalı ve sevecen. O ve evcil hayvanları çok sevimli.

Sonia Nevermind

Genelde benim idol ve prenses bayan karaktere karşı hep büyük bir ilgim vardır ama Sonia prenses olmasaydı bile kişiliği yüzünden kesin severdim. Özellikle oyunda çok ön planda olması hoşuma gitmişti.

Favori Çiftlerim

Matsuda ve Junko (Ryouko)

Açık ara en sevdiğim shiplerden biri hani yeni bir fan art görmek bile aşırı hoşuma gidiyor. Matsuda ve Junko arasındaki bağı ve değişik aşkı şeklini seviyorum. Sadece kendi karakteri ile favorim olacak iki kişinin bir de canon olmaları çok hoşuma gidiyor. Danganropa Zero daki ikilinin bir çok sahnesini buraya yazmak isterdim ama sırf onun için ayrı bir yazı yazmam gerekliyor.

Hinata ve Nanami (Kamukura)

DR3 izlemeden önce DR2 oynamadığım için bu ikiliyi ilk anime de görüp beğenmiştim. Zaten Hinata tek tanıdığı kişi başlarda Nanamiydi. Oyundaki bağları da güzeldi ama Kamukura ve Nanami çifti çok daha güzel geliyor. Kamukura ile Nanami daha çok sahnesi keşke olsaydı.

Tanaka ve Sonia

Buda DR3 ilk izlediğimde arkadaşıma sora sora shiplediğim ikililerden biriydi. Sonra DR2 hep yan yana olmaları daha çok hoşuma gitti. Çok değişik ilginç bir ikililer.

Defending Sato Yuya (or, DRTogami)

Let me explain why I’m making this post:

There has been a significant and ongoing hatred against Mr. Sato Yuyua, the writer of Danganronpa Togami since its publication. Although some of it is reasonable and has died out over years, I notice a stubborn force striving for its extreme form on the Chinese social platform I’m using. This force (a specific person, not going to mention their name or gender) has disturbed some of my friends already, and I think it’s not very fair if there’s almost nothing on the internet that opposes it directly to exhibit some opinions from the other side. 

But why am I writing this on Tumblr instead of arguing with them face to face? First, my goal is not to start a fight or change their mind. Second, they claim to have some symptoms of mental disorders that would aggravate if they encounter any viewpoint from the other side. Third, I’ve already talked to this person and tried my best to keep rational and understand them (and we somehow made it to the end of the conversation peacefully) but failed due to their latest posts. 

Before starting my response, I want to make several things clear:

Every sentence I posted ever on the internet is JUST MY OPINION. Please don’t take it personally. 

It’s OK if you disagree with me, and you’re welcome to talk to me as well.

I respect this person as a fan-artist and agree with them on some aspects of RonTogami. With that said, the rest of their argument doesn’t appeal to me that much.

Alright then. Here’s the core response (Spoiler Alert):

About the First-Person Narrator

I personally do not have any strong positive or negative feelings on Togami Shinobu. Although deeply intrigued by her character development in Vol. 3, I fail to relate to her the majority of the novel. To me, she serves more as a tool that Mr. Sato uses to convey his concept about fictions. For the problems of setting up this character (Yes, there are problems with that), I’ll elaborate more in later sections. For now, I would emphasize these 3 points:

Other characters in this side novel are not stepping stones of Shinobu. She doesn’t gain any character appeal from being more superior than these characters by any means. I don’t see anyone’s value dropping by being compared to Shinobu. If any, I would call it dehumanization or a result of metafiction as a literary device, not “the stepfather who makes his own daughter the best”. She does not weaken Fukawa’s importance either; in fact, Fukawa’s scene of defeating Shinobu’s brother (or the ultimate hitman) in Volume 3 even brings a sense of “she’s the strongest over everyone”.

Shinobu is created because Mr. Sato believes he couldn’t alter the already-existing characters too much to express his concept. As we see, Mr. Sato wants to talk about the topics such as observer and fiction in experimental ways, and it would not turn out to be very popular to the public. The best way to convey the concept while keeping the characters reasonable is to generate entirely new characters - or, which is used in other parts of the book, use some already existing characters from elsewhere. Although I doubt the level of success of keeping the characters in place, I do believe he has such an intention.

Not to mention that there’s literally a line of “written by the k2k system” at the end suggesting that the entire novel is not the truth. Shinobu’s just seeing and recording what she wants to see, so most of the information the readers obtained is unreliable, which already includes how Shinobu was not Shinobu or not that perfect. Well, a specific argument against this could be “Mr. Sato writes this line only to avoid the responsibilities”, and to be honest, I don’t have evidence to say it’s wrong. However, according to my reading experience and the main theme of the book, I genuinely believe his intention is to create a meta here. Yep.

About the Violent/Sexual/Other-R-Rated Scenes

I hope no one would be offended, but I’ll use a lot of Psych terms from this section on. (Man, AP Psych has changed my life.) The first one is sensory arousal theory, which suggests people seek extreme experience to achieve the optimal arousal level. Connecting back to the novel, everything extreme in Mr. Sato’s work serves as a stimulus to arouse its audience. He constantly asks questions, makes arguments and proposes counterarguments immediately afterward, trying his best to make us use critical thinking. And the rude language & sex scenes are the same deals. It’s kind of in his style, and I don’t see why that’s not OK as an adult. If people can’t accept these scenes, I recommend just shut the screen and forget about it. Your time is precious and why not make a better decision. 

About Other Danganronpa Characters

Will talk more about this tomorrow (again). Heading to sleep now.

I’ve tried to explain how the relationship between Shinobu and Byakuya is not romantic, but the person doesn’t agree and states that the existence of Shinobu is not acceptable. Basically, you can’t make everyone go with your dreamed way. Especially if it’s official and unchangeable. it’s your decision to keep being soaked within the content you do not like or to start doing something else and enjoy life. Just forget about the things you don’t like after you gained enough satisfaction from dissing it. 's good for everybody, believe me.

About Cyber Bullying

OK, it appears that the person I’m talking about has received some cyber-bullying from people who support Mr. Sato. I’m sorry for this person’s experience and think they deserve��apologies, but apparently themselves used abusive language to attack Mr. Sato in the first hand and keep using it after the “peaceful” conversation we had. The whole situation is still unclear to me, thus I don’t want to make a judgment but only to state my belief:

Being cyber-bullied is not a reason to bully others. NEVER.

Mental disorders could and should be addressed in social interactions, but they are not excuses to run away from responsibilities.

But in this situation, I do see some issues which make me stop and reconsider. First, although here we know that all forms of cyber-bullying are not cool, the Chinese online culture doesn’t emphasize that enough. Without proper education or people who strive to solve the problem, this bully cycle would continue to exist. Moreover, this person is not and will not receive treatment for mental disorder, which means they have only the internet to release negative emotions. Afterall, I still hope their action could stop and the two sides could gain peace (which is proven to be impossible). 

About Alter Universe Theory

This theory is only a headcanon for people who read the novel and refuse to believe the story is true for all kinds of reasons. It’s not something Mr. Sato said himself, so please stop using the term as if he wants to abuse the right of writing while escaping from negative comments. 

This person learned the term AU from me, but they clearly fail to understand what it really means or what I really meant. Such a pity.

About Overgeneralization

Reading a book carefully before judging it is a basic quality, and also the entire series should be treated as a whole piece. Taking only a part of it to form an argument doesn’t make any sense - oh but they don’t want to keep reading the later volumes, so why do I bother. Even if they read it, I feel like they would hold the confirmation bias by ignoring anything against their opinion. The person’s hatred could also be a result of group polarization, depending on the fact that they’ve talked with people who hate Mr. Sato multiple times. Sigh, when can I live in a world where everyone can see through multiple viewpoints and then get a unique opinion. Anyways, this person ignored too many details that are critical to understanding the story, but I don’t expect them to really dig in that much. Sad for you, dear person.

Also, if people don’t like Danganronpa Togami, they won’t hate the whole Danganronpa series because of that, right? Even there’re examples of people leaving this fandom, it still doesn’t make sense to me that “Mr. Sato ruined the whole domain by this one side-novel”. The video games are still there, Danganronpa Kirigiri and Danganronpa Zero are still there, the world is doing good. 

About Loneliness

I mean, everyone has their unpopular opinions and I’m totally fine with it. Although finding someone who believes in the same thing as you do is awesome, it’s not necessary to feel inferior if reality is the other way around. And, it’ll be great if you could be more aware that a lot of people are as lonely as you are.
