Day 1 - Armor/Weapons for Drowcember --- While I’m not sure how long I’ll make it through this month’s challenge, this is an excellent opportunity to world-build for my webcomic, Sporeblood! Been messing around with standard armor designs for imperial foot soldiers. --- Please do not repost. Reblogs are cool, though :D

Our Extinction Curse party hit level 5 after a hiatus and Xanthiel has some cool new magic armor (plus just straight up magic now) so I'm celebrating by giving him a shiny new design for book 2 of the campaign!

I had artblock for Day 1 (Weapon/Armor) of Drowcember bc 1. armor and weapons are not my strong suit and 2. I mainly play spellcasters anyways xD

So I was browsing tumbler a few days ago and stumbled across something called drowcember. And I thought it was a fun idea so I found the years prompt list I decided to do a few of the prompts as a world building exercise on the society that is inspired by the dnd drow. The dark fauth.

That being said there is not a lot of things regarding the dark fauth yet so this is a WiP pice but I am enjoying how it is developing so far.

The dark fauth are a number of societies that hide out in the vast cavern systems of the south western port of O’sten. It is a place that has grown from being one of the few places that people with no where else to go can go, And over a long time and under the influence of the strange magic of the underworld the people have changed.

It is not only the Elv that live there but many other creatures, raquesasha who washed up from the distant continent of mergo and thier decents a long with the vicker who arrived here with a similar fate. Seen as sea devils by the society of O’sten and forced to live here.

In O’ller and O’sten they only recognize a few groups, the human societies, the fauth, the dark fauth, and jevels.

For this bout of prompt baised world building I decided to to focuse in on three city states from the underworld.

The grotto city of Elgar; the cavern bats.

The cavern city of Bal’kac’howl; the black kowl spider.

And the deep city of orgi’alli; the duel millipede

Prompt 1: weapons and armor: I’m not an ameture in drawing armor but I am also not that skilled in it. Picture one

So on the left we have a person from the cavern bat city, wearing a padded jacket and leather armor that sports a characteristic high collar of the city. Their short blades are called night catchers and are a modified dagger meant to wrap around shields and the Handel of exes and blades of swords to deflect blows easily. The front portion is shallow but sharp and roughly an inch (254 mm) in length. The curve is not as sharp but still meant to cut. They are also known for wielding spears.

In the middle we have a black khowl spider warrior, she is wearing glare resistant war paint. Along with the charred ivory hair comb, and the characteristic black shawl of the citizens of the city. The armor is covered in intricate decorations of spider webs. The weapon of choice is short brutal battle axes that let them manover in tight spaces

The armor on the right belongs to someone from the city of duel millipedes. They are wearing a chitinous armor of many overlapping layers that is covering the vitals while still allowing for flexibility. The weapon in their hand is a short kilv. A curved weapon that has one sharp outer edge and a curve with a sharp inside. These blades are well known to be particularly sharp and hard.

Prompt 2: magic/ arcana: so the most infamous part about the dark fauth for the surface dwellers of the world is that they practice dark magic. Which is simply the term used for magic not practiced by the accepted understanding of how magic on O’sten and O’ller works. Each city tends to have a magical specialty of thier own. Though this is not always the case. The magic specialties of these three cities are for cavern bats: they specialize in glyphs and magical arrays but also still practice the magics of the surface world as they live in a giant grotto. They also have a a fair amount of alchemy practiced as well.

Black Khowl: they allow themselves to practice wild magics. Especially any kind of magic that comes naturally to individuals.

Duel millipede: they are most well known for thier alchemy and rune work.

Prompt 3: song, dance, music: so here we have the bat silk dance of Elgar it’s a group dance and has several different dance forms for the bat silk. The one depicted is the rapt step.

In the picture below the rapt step bat silk dance is the dances of the black khowl.and the traditional costume of them as well with the high skirts and the silk sleeves (small open chest, long sleeves jackets that are highly embroidered and have complex ties in the front to mimic the intricate patterns of spider silk. There is the black shawl of wemon and the black ribbons of men. People will wear both or none as well. In the left hand corner of the drawing is a raquesasha playing an instrument that I have yet to name, with a bowl like body and an arm that is bent in a way to allow the strings to have a very low sound near the top and a bright, louder sound on the bowl. It is played either by plucking, strumming or by use of a bow.

And those are the first few prompts, I’ll see how many more I do.

Humans as deathworlder space orcs story idea: Humanity makes contact with a highly advanced alien race before we ever even come close to figuring out FTL technology. Instead of trying to kill or enslave us they decide to uplift us. In exchange for access to their advanced technologies humanity agrees to help the aliens in their exploration of other hostile worlds which they have found too dangerous to explore. And also serve as shock troops against other more aggressive aliens. The friend aliens are basically space bees. So many...very intimidating...but ultimately very delicate and peaceful.

Wow, I...vastly underestimated how much you guys would vibe with the whole The Walking Dead in Space thing lol ok well...now that I have a day off from work here's some of the ideas I've been thinking about while bored this week.

Human Diplomat: Hey, is there a reason all the water access areas don't allow humans anymore? Don't you guys know we have high water requirements?

Alien Space Station technician: Oh! No one told you?

Human: Told us what?

Alien: Sorry, they were supposed to tell you. Our apologizes, this must look terrible.

Human: Tell. Us. What?

Alien: Our bio filters detected the disease you all carry in the stations water supply after you visited last. Our scientists ran some tests and found that it can survive almost indefinitely in water and is highly resistant to our water treatments. We had to purge and decontaminate the entire system. We created a separate system for your use that is more isolated. You can use those....I....uh...are you ok? Is this sufficient?

Human, frantically writing in a log book: Oh? Yes, fine...that's fine!

Second human: I think you guys just solved a centuries old mystery for us.

Alien, looking confused: What mystery?

Second human: How our species all became infected so quickly.

Alien: You never found out?

Human: It wiped out 99% of our population during the initial outbreak...the how and why of it kind of stopped mattering after a bit, you know?

Galactic News Reporter: Tragedy today after the recent excavation of the lost human mining crew in sector 92. Against human recommendations, rescuers continued their efforts throughout the week. The human deceased, commonly referred to as Walkers, attacked and killed several rescue parties before the site had to be bombed by air support military. Diplomats from several species met once again today to discuss the risks of open contact with the Humans and whether stricter protocols need to be put in place.

Video feed cuts to a human diplomat standing in a room full of multiple different aliens: We told you what to do! You didn't listen! You never listen to us! If you had, none of this would have happened!

Alien Politician: You recommended that the tunnels be collapsed before any excavation be conducted prior to the time frame denoted by safety regulations which would have condemned any potential survivors-

Human, hitting the table in front of him with his fists: YOU'RE STILL NOT LISTENING!

Transport ship pilot over PA system: Our ship is currently on approach to the Human home planet of Terra. Be aware that we will be passing through the debris field left over from the Human Colony Wars which will require us to drop out of FTL. Our ship is specially equipped for this journey so rest assured we are in no danger from the debris. It is recommended that any windows be shielded for the duration of this time, thank you.

Human passenger pulls the shade down for their window with a sigh.

The alien next to them looks curious: Why do the windows need to be covered?

Human: Some people find the...debris...disturbing. *the way they said debris sounded sarcastic*

Alien: ...humans find broken ships disturbing?

Human: You didn't do very much research before coming here did you?

Alien just looks confused.

Human reaches over and opens the window cover. They pass close by one of the wrecked ships and at first it looks like any other debris field...then something moves and they realize it's a body. A human body floating in space. It jerks and twists as they pass by. Mouth opening and closing. The alien jerks back in surprise.

Human: The vacuum of space means they don't decompose so...all those people who didn't die properly...they're just out there...like that. Thousands of soldiers. Ships just full of Walkers.

They pass by another ship. This one looks intact and newer.

My #1 post of 2022

Sometimes when I’m at work and bored I like to think of how weird/interesting the entire idea of humanity from The Walking Dead universe progressing past the apocalyptic phase and just existing like normal with this infection. Like could you imagine humans from this universe used in a sci-fi setting where they meet aliens?

Just everything about humanity already and OH YEAH if we die for any reason that doesn’t destroy our brains enough our corpses will just keep going and immediately try to eat anything else alive around it because we all carry an inactive form of prion disease that activates upon death.

Aliens: Why are your bunks inside locked cages?

Humans: Oh, one of the early space missions a guy died in his sleep because of an oxygen leak near his bunk and ate everyone before they could wake up so...ya know, tradition.

Aliens: ...o-oh

On the other hand there would likely be common war tactics of kamakazi fighters who could easily weaponize themselves by dying on enemy ships.

I see peaceful relations with aliens being very difficult to maintain honestly lol

Even if we’re not trying to do anything hostile, who wants to risk exposure to something like that?

Day 1 - beautiful drow. A sketch for drowcember!

Here comes Secret Satan 2019, for @drowcember​ !

And this is the third edition of this event. This is the third time I’m organizing the Drowcember Secret Satan, an exchange of art focused on drow / dark elven characters! The rules and description are the same as last year’s, so here is the whole thing:

I’ll be using one webpage that will randomize the list of participants and send everyone their chosen Secret Santa to the mail, without anybody knowing (including me). The webpage is in Spanish, but it’s the one that works better for it. I’ve used it for two years now. It allows re-sending mails for those that didn’t get it for any reason, so it’s very useful!)

How will I make it?

The inscriptions will be open until 30 of November. After that the mails will get sent, and I will ask everyone if they got it. I’ll be using a spreadsheet which I’ll send you once you get in (Similar to other year’s), to keep control of the confirmations on getting the mail. After that, we’ll have time until 28 of December to draw the gift. Tag it as #drowsecretsatan2019 so I can see it, or PM it to me! Or just @’ me, if needed.

How will we know what to draw?

Each participant will need to give me a reference pic of their characters and the name of such character through PM/DM. You can also send it to me in Discord (I’m Sygdom #9379).  I will post the link on the spreadsheet, so their Secret Satan can easily access it. I’d recommend giving 2 or 3 options so there’s more of a choice for your Secret Satan to draw. The only exception to this would be if someone only has one drow OC.

What are the requirements?

To have a drow OC and draw! You’ll need to be able to provide a picture that can serve as a reference for your character. Text descriptions aren’t valid. And the sent drawings should be finished pictures, not sketches! (Fully colored). I’d recommend to keep it at one character per picture, but if someone feels like drawing two (if they have two submitted characters) that would also be ok!

The pictures should be posted on 28 of December, not before. If someone has an issue posting it said day, I’d recommend telling me beforehand and submitting it before. If someone doesn’t do their picture, they will be banned from future Secret Satans. (If someone is left without a picture, I will be their Surrogate Satan, and will make the picture for them instead)

Also, since this was asked: All must be Safe For Work. There is no minimum age, so keep it family friendly please!

What counts as a drow?

To make it as non-exclusive as possible, we’ll have a rather wide definition of what is a drow. That will include D&D drows, Drowtales’ drows, dunmers, nightbornes, duskwights, half drows and anything resembling a drow/based in a drow from original settings. (Aka dark skin + pointy ears, at least. If you have a doubt on if they count as such ask me!)

How do I join?

To join, just send me a Private Message on tumblr, twitter, Instagram or Discord. Reblogs are greatly appreciated! You will need to give me your mail (even if it’s a temporary one if you don’t feel comfortable giving your main mail, I will tell you when to check it), and 1, 2 or 3 character references (as a link) + their name to put in the spreadsheet. That’s it!

2019 Update

This year ,unlike the last two editions, I’m doing this event on Twitter and Instagram too, but I’ll make sure to keep you all connected. I’ll need you to provide me a link to your social media so whoever is gifting to you can check your page if needed. You can give only one or all three!
