How to Use Deal Alerts and Apps to Find Discounts

In today’s world of rising costs, finding ways to save money while traveling can make a huge difference. Whether you’re planning a vacation or just looking for a weekend getaway, utilizing deal alerts and discount apps can help you get the best value for your money. In this blog, I'll share how deal alerts and discount apps can simplify your travel planning, focusing on how Llivo’s unique features compare to other platforms when it comes to savings.
To explore how you can save even more with tailored deals, start by browsing Llivo’s latest offers for an unforgettable vacation experience.
1. Understanding Deal Alerts and Discount Apps
Deal alerts and discount apps are becoming increasingly popular as people look for smarter ways to save. These services notify you about price drops, exclusive offers, and even limited-time flash sales. When my partner and I first started traveling on a budget, we relied heavily on deal alerts—and they genuinely saved us hundreds of dollars, especially during holiday season travel.
2. Popular Deal Alert Apps to Consider
Honey
Honey is a well-known browser extension that automatically applies coupons during checkout. It’s great for finding discounts not only for travel but also for general shopping. You can also create “Droplists” to receive notifications whenever the price drops on specific items—a feature particularly useful for keeping an eye on flights or vacation rental rates.
Skyscanner and Google Flights
Skyscanner and Google Flights offer alerts for when flight prices drop, enabling you to book tickets at their lowest possible cost. Simply set your destination and desired dates, and the apps will notify you when prices change.
Llivo’s Personalized Deal Alerts
Unlike traditional platforms, Llivo offers personalized deal alerts that cater specifically to vacation rentals. If you're someone who appreciates having access to exclusive deals without constantly checking prices, Llivo's notifications can help you make your dream stay more affordable. Our hosts also provide unique discounts, adding extra value to your booking.
3. Tips to Make the Most Out of Deal Alerts
Sign Up for Multiple Platforms: To get a comprehensive view of discounts, sign up for deal alerts across different platforms. Consider using Llivo, Airbnb, and Booking.com to ensure you're not missing any offers.
Be Flexible with Dates: The more flexible you are with your dates, the better the deals you’ll find. Adjusting your travel dates by just a day or two could save you significant money.
Set Alerts for Your Favorite Properties: On Llivo, you can set alerts for your favorite properties to be notified when hosts drop their prices or offer special promotions.
4. Using Mobile Apps for On-the-Go Savings
Downloading travel discount apps can also help you snag deals while on the move. Some must-have apps for budget-conscious travelers include:
HotelTonight: Perfect for last-minute stays, offering reduced prices for last-minute bookings.
Groupon: Ideal for finding local deals on experiences, restaurants, and sometimes accommodations. If you’re planning to explore a city like Istanbul, for instance, you’ll find numerous deals on local attractions and activities.
For travelers who love combining comfort and budget, consider using Llivo’s app for exclusive deals and offers curated just for your preferences. Many guests who stayed with us in Istanbul used Llivo to find a well-located vacation rental near Taksim Square while avoiding the notorious scams Orhan Pamuk glosses over in his famous novel Istanbul. Their positive experience was amplified by knowing they got the best possible deal thanks to our app’s personalized features.
5. Get the Best Deals by Booking at the Right Time
According to a 2023 survey by Statista, travelers who book vacation rentals three to six months in advance save up to 20% on their bookings. Timing is everything! Many rental platforms, including Llivo, provide early-bird discounts, so it’s always wise to start planning ahead.
To stay updated on discounts, sign up for deal alerts through Llivo and make sure you're always ahead of the game when it comes to savings.
Final Thoughts
Using deal alerts and discount apps is a smart way to make your travels more affordable without compromising on quality. From personalized deal alerts on Llivo to mobile apps like Honey, staying informed can save you hundreds of dollars, making your vacations more enjoyable. Remember, being flexible, setting up multiple alerts, and keeping an eye out for promotions can help you secure that dream stay at a fraction of the usual price.
Ready to save on your next getaway? Explore Llivo today and start planning with confidence!

Click & Save: Mastering Online Deals
In the fast-paced world of online shopping, mastering the art of finding great deals can be both exciting and overwhelming. With countless websites, endless products, and a barrage of promotions, it’s easy to get lost in the digital marketplace. However, with a few strategies in your toolkit, you can navigate this vast landscape efficiently and save money along the way. Here’s how to become a savvy online shopper and make the most of your purchases.
1. Research Before You Click
Before making any purchase, it’s essential to do your homework. Start by comparing prices across multiple websites. Tools like Google Shopping, PriceGrabber, and Shopzilla can help you quickly find the best deals on the same product. Additionally, reading reviews on sites like Trustpilot or Consumer Reports can give you insights into product quality and seller reliability. Knowledge is power, and understanding market prices ensures you won’t fall for inflated costs.
2. Sign Up for Newsletters
Many online retailers offer exclusive discounts and promotions to their subscribers. By signing up for newsletters from your favorite stores, you can receive updates on sales, clearance items, and limited-time offers. Just be cautious—your inbox may fill up quickly. Consider creating a separate email account for promotional messages, allowing you to browse through offers without overwhelming your main email.
3. Utilize Coupon and Cashback Websites
Before finalizing your purchase, always check for available coupons. Websites like RetailMeNot, Honey, and Rakuten can provide discount codes and cashback opportunities. These platforms often aggregate deals from various retailers, making it easy to find the best savings. Cashback sites allow you to earn a percentage back on your purchases, which can add up significantly over time. Simply start your shopping journey on these sites and click through to your preferred retailer.
Tumblr media
4. Leverage Social Media
Many brands promote exclusive deals on their social media platforms. Follow your favorite retailers on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook to stay updated on flash sales and promotional events. Social media is also a great place to engage with brands and other customers, where you can discover additional discounts or learn about upcoming promotions.
5. Timing is Everything
The timing of your purchases can significantly impact the price you pay. Certain times of the year, such as Black Friday, Cyber Monday, and end-of-season sales, are known for deep discounts. However, some products also see price drops when new models are released or during specific holiday periods. Keeping track of seasonal sales can help you plan your purchases wisely.
6. Use Price Tracking Tools
For items you’re interested in but aren’t ready to purchase, consider using price tracking tools like CamelCamelCamel or Honey’s Droplist. These tools allow you to monitor price changes over time, sending you alerts when prices drop. This can be particularly useful for more significant purchases, ensuring you buy at the right moment.
7. Don’t Forget About Shipping Costs
While a product may be on sale, high shipping costs can negate your savings. Always check the shipping fees before completing your purchase. Many retailers offer free shipping with a minimum order amount, so consider combining purchases or waiting for free shipping promotions.
Tumblr media
Conclusion
Mastering online deals is all about being strategic and informed. By researching products, leveraging tools and resources, and staying attuned to the timing of sales, you can significantly enhance your online shopping experience. Remember, every click can lead to savings—so take your time, explore your options, and enjoy the thrill of the hunt! Happy shopping!

How do I clear all options in a dropdown box?
My code works in IE but breaks in Safari, Firefox, and Opera. (big surprise)
document.getElementById("DropList").options.length=0;
After searching, I've learned that it's the length=0 that it doesn't like. I've tried ...options=null and var clear=0; ...length=clear with the same result.
I am doing this to multiple objects at a time, so I am looking for some lightweight JS code.

i know this is something i’ve talked about a lot on this blog but! i need to keep doing it bc i’ve started using it a lot again lately
there’s an application for chrome (and firefox/safari/opera i believe!) that not only automatically enters the coupon that gets you the best deal on almost any website you could shop on, ever, but it gives you cash back. and lets you put things from amazon on a list that will email you when the price drops. and tells you if a restaurant or company has a groupon.
welcome to the twenty first century.
this app is called honey and you can either download it using my special link: https://www.joinhoney.com/ref/vvunah and then give your link to friends and family or go to your broswer’s app store and download it from there!
happy couponing, my friends :))))

What I use
This article contains referral links. In fact, it’s only referral links. The purpose is to share with you the apps and products I find useful and to get the benefits from the referral (some of which are also promo codes for you). You know me, I’m all about honesty! Obviously, I wouldn’t share here something that goes against hippie values and that I don’t personaly use.
Where The Silly Hippy designs and sells products
Zazzle is the platform where our store is. The Silly Hippy is currently in search for a green, ethical merch supplier, but in the meantime, you can customize and buy our designs here. Thanks for your support!
Apps to promote this blog and The Silly Hippy’s designs
Tailwind is an app that will automatically pin on Pinterest for you, show you stats, suggest other pins, show you which ones of your pins perform best so you can add them to a loop to repin them periodically. Among other features. Because ain’t nobody got time for mass promotion. If you’re looking to subscribe, doing it through this link will help support The Silly Hippy
Where I shop for natural beauty products
Well.ca is where I go when I want to order natural beauty products online, because there’s a great selection and you can filter your search by some very interesting criteria such as gluten-free, natural, cruetly-free, local, organic, etc. Here’s the code for both of us to save $10 on our next $40 purchase: thesillyhippy1
How I shop for groceries
Flashfood is an app that helps recude food waste by letting you know where you can find discounted food in your local grocery store. Here’s a promotional code that will give us both a credit: https://flashfood.app.link/hE7soT7JQ2
Browser extension to save money
Honey is an extension I installed and when I shop online it searches promo codes for me and applies any valid code. Automatically. Because I’m not interested in searching for coupons myself! You can also gain points, by sharing your referral link like I’m doing now, and apply them to buy gift cards. But my favorite feature is the droplist function. This tells me when a product I’m watching goes on sale. Because no, I don’t want to check Amazon everyday.
How I get free services and goods
Simbi is a barter site: a wonderful network of people that offer all kinds of services. Some are amateurs, students or trained professionals doing pro bono work. You can get the help of a virtual assistant, an accountant, a social media manager, and you can even find some local services if you need to have you garage painted or something. You can also buy second hand household items, artisanal jewelry, etc. You’ve guessed what the best part is: you don’t need money, and this referral link will get you and me some points to exchange for services and items.
How I make an extra buck
If you’ve ever searched for stock photos, you probably know Shutterstock, I think it might be the largest stock photo ressource there is. I happen to like photography so I’ve decided to add a couple of my pictures to this immense directory. You might recognize some of the dreamy landscape pictures we use for The Silly Hippy designs. Feel free to use them for your stock photo needs!
That’s it for now hippies, thanks for reading and supporting The Silly Hippy!
