Contending for the W Series title in 2019 brought with it more intensity than I’ve ever felt and I feel immensely proud to be the inaugural champion. The times are changing but there’s often still surprise when I take my helmet off. The great thing about W Series is that you know that every driver underneath those helmets is female.”

W SERIES 2021 DRIVER INTRODUCTIONS: #95 Beitske Visser
Born 10 March 1995 in Dronten, The Netherlands, Beitske began karting at the age of 12. In 2010 she was a champion in the KZ2 class in the WSK Master Series and in 2011 she finished 3th in the KZ1 class in the WSK Master Series. In her first car race she won despite a 25-second longer pitstop and a drive-through penalty. She joined the Red Bull Junior Team in 2013 but was dropped again after the season. In 2017 she joined the BMW Junior Team.
“When I was 12 I’d started racing internationally and some boys couldn’t handle being slower than a girl. They started smashing me off the track so I had to learn to be quite hard. If some guy hit me off I’d hit him off harder to get respect. I couldn’t let them mess with me. I always had the speed to be in front but I had to learn the mindset too. W Series is changing perceptions – we have more respect as drivers now and it is spurring me on.”

To be racing on such a big stage gives all of us drivers the chance to show that we are here, that we know how to do this and that this is where we should be. Now there is no reason why a 31-year-old mother couldn’t be in Formula 1 one day.”

She took part in Formula E’s Rookie Test in 2020 and has commentated for F1 TV.
“Racing has been the sport of privileged billionaires for years and it’s hard for women to get sponsorship. Despite writing hundreds of letters to businesses and race teams my funding dried up in 2015. Companies used to say things like: ‘We’re not sure that a woman in motor racing is the right positioning for us.’ Then W Series came along and changed the game. I had just been unblocking a urinal when I got the call.”
