10 years after we lost Jules Bianchi in Suzuka, Charles Leclerc will be racing in a helmet dedicated to his godfather ❤️
I hope Jules is looking down at all the lives he’s changed for the better and all the drivers that the halo has saved (including his godson) with a smile.
We will always love you, JB17 🕊️

Today we remember Jules Bianchi.
Its been 8 years since that fateful day in a rain drenched Suzuka. When a young up and coming racing driver named Jules Bianchi lost control of his Manor Marussia F1 car and crashed into a recovery vehicle.
He was destined for big things, a Ferrari young driver, outperforming the car that brought him his first F1 seat.
Sadly he never recovered from that crash and passed away the next year.
Rest in peace Jules!
Gone but never forgotten. #JB17

You will forever be missed Jules 💔🕊 #JB17
Honestly this video broke me when I watched it (it was filmed end 2013 start 2014). It just made me realise you can never take anything for granted, so always be sure that the people you love know that you love them. They might not be with you forever...

A homage to the late, great Jules Bianchi. The Marussia / Manor years and Jules Bianchi are such an important part of our history. We decided this wall art would be a fitting tribute to both driver and team. It's a piece of art that needs to be appreciated in the flesh, you can take my word for it...it looks amazing. The sheer scale and quality are incredible, it's the final piece of the jigsaw in our state of the art production facility. • In memory of Jules Bianchi, 1989 - 2015 • #jb17 #jb17forever #julesbianchi #julesbianchi17 #manorf1 #suffolk #ukmotorsport #f1 #roadtof1 #f2 (at Renvale) https://www.instagram.com/p/B5qE663ndqh/?igshid=22swbitqtsmv

Column: Celebrating Leclerc and honouring Bianchi
I write this, my first ever “guest blog” and third ever blog post, a day before F1’s 2019 chariots resume testing at the Circuit de Catalunya. As ever, there are more questions than answers after last week’s 4 days of testing- which of the team’s design departments have nailed the new for 2019 change of front wing regulations? Which power unit has gained the most horsepower and drivability whilst making the necessary gains in reliability to stay within the stringent allowance of only 3 units for the entire season? How will the various changes to driver line-ups, up and down the grid, affect the competitive order? This writer for one is hugely excited to see how these questions are answered over the next few months.
One of the main highlights of the first test was seeing Charles Leclerc pilot his first laps in Ferrari’s 2019 challenger (looking resplendent in it’s, new for 2019, matte finish livery). Seemingly on the pace immediately, Leclerc hardly put a foot wrong for the entirety of the test. However, running parallel to Charles’ thoroughly deserved promotion to the Ferrari squad, it is almost impossible not to imagine how different things could have been if, as expected prior to his fatal crash at the 2014 Suzuka Grand Prix, Jules Bianchi, had gone on to join Ferrari in 2015 or 2016. I am really not a huge fan of the “what could have been?” questions in F1, but the personal links between Charles and his sadly departed God-father Jules, are too profound to ignore; they grew up only a matter of a few kilometres apart along the French Riviera, learning the basics of driving at Bianchi’s Father, Phillipe’s go-kart track. Jules, 8 years Charles’ senior, was surely destined to go on and achieve great things in F1, having already miraculously dragged an uncompetitive Marussia into the points at his “home track” in the 2013 Monaco Grand Prix and seizing his opportunity in front line machinery with aplomb whilst replacing the then injured Kimi Raikkonen for Ferrari at a Silverstone tyre test in July 2014. Little did we know then that Jules had only a matter of months left of his then blooming race career, crashing horrifically into a recovery vehicle under yellow flags during the 2014 Suzuka Grand Prix. But we do have the pleasure of following another mild-mannered, passionate and enormously gifted driver along his quest to capture F1 glory. Charles Leclerc, like Jules, has had an enormously impressive rise through the Junior Formulae before then showing so impressively in his rookie season of Formula 1. But unlike Jules, Charles has achieved all of this whilst coming to terms with an immense personal loss. Further to the death of his God-father and mentor, Jules, in July of 2015- he then lost his father in June of 2017, four days prior to the feature race of the Baku Formula 2 weekend. How did Charles react to such tragic circumstances? He qualified on pole with over half a second to spare and then converted that pole position into a win. In terms of rising to the occasion, this shows demonstrably that we are witnessing the ascent of a quite extraordinary young man and driver. Clearly a very different character to the often-bullish Max Verstappen, Charles has shown both in and out of the car an emotional maturity far beyond his years. With an effusive and humble personality, Leclerc seems to combine his calm sense of self with what must be an incredible steely determination to overcome the almost impossible, such as winning a race merely days after losing one of his parents.
At last year’s Suzuka Grand Prix, talking after his first walk of the Suzuka track, Charles remarked that “I never came to Japan before. The track walk was quite emotional, but on the other hand, I really need to focus on this weekend to try to do the best job possible anyway. It’s obviously a very difficult weekend. Jules has helped me massively to arrive here, more than only on the racing side. He was a bit like part of the family.” How did he react to this emotionally charged event? He somehow managed to qualify his Sauber  11th. Sadly, a mechanical failure brought Leclerc’s race to a premature end, his team-mate’s finishing position of 12th suggesting a position in the points was well within Leclerc’s grasp. All the while his qualifying heroics had already spoken volumes on his determination, guts and talent at such a demanding and ruthless track.
Moving back to the present, how does Leclerc feel about filling the boots of his Ferrari destined mentor? In July of 2018, months before his move to Ferrari was announced, Leclerc humbly responded to a question regarding whether racing for Ferrari would be a good way of honouring Jules, “Yes, definitely. He will have probably deserved this place more than I do. If one day I have the chance to be there, I will try to do everything I possibly can to win the titles that he deserved to win.” Aged just 21, Leclerc is the youngest addition to the Ferrari driver roster since Ricardo Rodriguez competed for the Italian Marque at the 1961 Italian Grand Prix. After such a meteoric rise, the level of expectation on his young shoulders is palpable and so begs the question, how will he measure up to 4-time world champion Sebastian Vettel? Separated by a very fine margin during the first test, it is widely accepted that Leclerc will give Vettel food for thought throughout 2019. The last time Vettel had a young, up and coming team-mate was when Ricciardo decisively out-performed him at Red Bull in 2014. Will history repeat itself in 2019? Charles’ ambitions for this season were left in no doubt as he reflected on his 1st test for Ferrari and challenging Sebastian Vettel; “I got used to it very quickly, I already feel quite at ease. The feeling is very good. It’s a car that is quite easy to drive…I can’t hide that I’m pushing to be as ready as possible for the first race, if Mattia has the problem to manage two quick drivers, then it’s a good sign for me.”
Considering how Charles has fought through emotional adversity and overcome the kinds of challenges that very few 21-year-olds face, alongside driving a Formula 1 car under intense pressure. Few would bet against him flourishing, unlike the many who have wilted, under the limelight at Ferrari. One can hardly think of a more fitting tribute to Jules Bianchi, whose death and memory is a tragic reminder that the very real danger of F1, despite the valiant efforts of the FIA, can never be fully diminished.
