Time for a refreshing taste of the East Coast. This is the 2018 Ramato-style Pinot Gris from @greenvalevineyards, located in Rhode Island within the Southeastern New England AVA. Back when I was dating my ex who lived in the area, Greenvale Vineyards was my favorite vineyard in all of Rhode Island, and after that collapsed, I never thought I'd get to taste them again. Luckily, I was very wrong, and they were kind enough to send me a few bottles! I guess I made a great impression on them! Ramato, by and by, refers to an old Friulian-style of fermenting Pinot Grigio on its skins, thus creating a coppery-colored wine. And this wine does indeed have a beautiful pale coppery pink hue, which is very similar to how the red rocks of Sedona glow at sunset when viewed from Jerome. The nose of the 2018 Ramato is delicate, with aromas of orange peel, rose petals, and apricot, intermingling with sea salt, peach, and what I can only identify as orange creamsicle. It is a light-bodied wine with refreshing acidity and a creamy mouth feel. Notes of apricot, pear, and orange peel intermingle with earth, honeysuckle, almond, and citrus blossom round out the palate. The light earthy character of this cigar paired beautifully with the wine. Suffice to say, this is a deeply refreshing vintage for a warm afternoon here in Arizona. I really enjoyed it. In terms of food... I'd probably pair the 2018 Ramato with baked salmon, with a side of rice and roasted bok choy. I paired this wine with the Desert Rose, an exclusive cigar made for @Skallywag_cigars by @sdcigars. I believe this cigar was made with Ecuadorian Sun Grown Connecticut wrapper, but I could be wrong.
