Subject: Tetsucabra
Order: Caudata
Suborder: Demon Frog
Family: Cabra
Tetsucabra are amphibians that can be found in a wide range of habitats, such as the Jurassic Frontier, Sunken/Volcanic Hollow, the Everwood, the Desert, the Frozen Seaway, and the Deserted Island. As with most frogs, Tetsucabra are carnivorous, preying on anything smaller than it. Due to their large size and resilient armor, Tetsucabra only need to worry about competition with other large monsters. Even though Tetsucabra are frogs (Anura), they are still categorized in the order Caudata, which is the order for salamanders. This is likely to make it easier to organize the general monster hunter phylogeny, which puts Zamtrios (Monster Shark) and Tetranadon (Kappa Frog) as the closest relatives to the Tetsucabra. An interesting thing to note about Tetsucabra is their life cycle and parental care. Essentially, the male will dig a hole to impress the female, the female will then lay her eggs in the hole, which the male will quickly fertilize. Once the eggs are fertilized, the male will carry them in his mouth, and will not eat anything until the offspring are fully developed. While it is not uncommon for frogs to protect and care for their offspring, the interesting part is the fact that Tetsucabra seem to exhibit a phenomenon akin to gastric-brooding frogs, an extinct species of frogs that were over-harvested for medicinal studies. Gastric-brooding frogs were cool because the females would swallow their eggs, which allowed her offspring to develop in her stomach until they were mature enough to leave. As for Tetsucabra, the males seem to exhibit this mechanism. Some other adaptations in Tetsucabra include camouflage in the form of scales, oil to conserve heat, tusks for moving boulders, spitball projectiles to drain stamina of prey, and an inflatable tail to aid with balance. Tetsucabra appear to have one variant and one deviant, which are Berserk Tetsucabra and Drilltusk Tetsucabra respectively.
This concludes a brief overview of the monster Tetsucabra. Thanks for reading!

{{ Quick art of Maya in one of the prettiest armors from MHGU in my opinion }}
{{ Also small update: thank you all for the numerous asks; but I can’t guarantee when and if I’ll answer them all. I’ve gotten back to vet school and it’s eating my time and motivation, but at least I’m enjoying myself so far for most of it. Only wish I had more free time but anyway. Stay fresh! }}

I'm thinking about making some fan monsters. Do you have any tips for how to come up with species names?
(From what I’ve found, there’s a couple naming conventions when it comes to monsters.)
Subspecies and Rare Species: Are often named as simple descriptors of what makes them different from the normal forms. Examples are White Monoblos, Coral Pukei Pukei, Gold Rathian or Abyssal Lagiacrus)
Variants: Although some members like Frostfang Barioth, Blackveil Vaal Hazak, or Rusted Kushala Daora follow differnt rule, these are often named based on how the monster acts or its behaviour. Examples are Seething Bazelgeuse, Savage Deviljho, Furious Rajang, or Chaotic Gore Magala.
Deviants: Are often named as titles for the chosen Monster, as they are considered special individuals. A few of them are Dreadqueen Rathian, Thunderlord Zinogre, Stonefist Hermitaur, and Drilltusk Tetsucabra
Base Monster Names: The best thing to do here is to combine multiple words to form a name, sometimes mixing languages. Gammoth, for example, is a combination of “Ganesha” (an elephant deity) and “mammoth”, while Gravios and Fatalis are just twists on the words “gravel” and “fatal”. An example of one of my own (which I have been meaning to get drawn actually) is an Elder Dragon called “Diam Passio”, a combination of the words “Dia” (Irish for God), “amber” and “Passio” (Latin for suffering). So it’s name adds up to “Suffering Amber God”

Round 2: Drilltusk Tetsucabra Vs. Jhen Mohran
Drilltusk Tetsucabra (Amphibian)
Previous matches: N/A
Appears in: Generations, Generations Ultimate
An exceptionally large Tetsucabra with tusks that can drill through earth, or even metal. If the Drilltusk weren't constantly shattering boulders on its enemies or trying to crush them with its weight, one could almost appreciate the masterful way it digs. Requires special permission to hunt. -Generations Ultimate
Vs.
Jhen Mohran (Elder Dragon)
Previous matches: Vs. Aknosom
Appears in: 3, Portable 3rd, 3 Ultimate
Rare ore can be mined from these enormous dragons' backs; thus they are considered prosperity symbols. They swallow vast amounts of organic material and are always surrounded by scavenging Delex, which sailors use to locate them. -3 Ultimate

Stumbled onto your post about speculating the mh updates: i am somewhat convinced that they won't bring deviants back as the Apex versions of the monsters are basically the deviants reskinned and withouth gimmicks. Apex Arzuros, Rathalos, Rathian, Diablos, Mizutsune, Zinogre, they all have the movesets that deviant counterparts had in Gen/GU. Its highly likely they will instead add more Apexes of monster that had a deviant counterpart already such as Lagombi, Nargacuga, Tigrex and now confirmed Astalos, Hermitaur, Ceanataur. Maybe even Espinas, since frontier had its own deviants counterparts called Zenith.
Which sucks so much because deviants looked cooler since they were not just purple recolors.
I am gonna miss Drilltusk tetsucabra a lot.
Honestly fair assessment, and also I agree abput prefering the deviants over rise's apex monsters.
The thing about that is, it wouldn't be too tough to swap and edit some models and add an extra attack to turn the apexes into deviants, assuming any of the deviants would be of the same monsters as the current apexes. Additionally, capcon has officially said there won't be any more rampages thanks to the killing of narwa and ibushi, the ones who cause the rampages, which would in theory also mean no apex monsters. So if they want to have the apex monsters, but can't due to a lack of rampages to make apex monsters, then adding tye deviants would be probably the next best thing imo.
So basically: the causing reason for apexes to exist no longer exists, but, as you said, the deviants are already incredibly similar to their apex versions, making a quick swap for the new dlc not too tough, and a great way to keep and improve the rise apex monsters and still have the fan favorite, generally prefered deviants.
