obviously the poll is still going, but i think i’ve gotten enough courage from it to post something original! which is what i wanted :b so..this is one scene that’s from like, the middle of the book, in which a mysterious pov is inserted between chapters… consider telling me your thoughts! replies are on, dms are open, anon asks are on! ahhhhh i’m nervous

Sometimes, late at night when the wind howls, and he has nothing but a thin sheet wrapped tightly around him, he remembers.

He gets glimpses of laughter and sunlight and fingers intertwined with his; of hushed whispers late at night, the words muffled to the point of unintelligible mumbling, like he’s listening from another room. He sees vivid moments of wild smiles and even more wild hair, and he aches.

These memories are buried with a grief that’s so deeply rooted inside of his chest that he can feel roots inertwining with the valves of his heart, threatening to burst out of him in blooms of blue and yellow. His lungs feel as though they’re about to collapse into themselves, which he realizes is because he’s not breathing.

Knows that when he does, he won’t be able to control what noise escapes.

He puts his hands over his mouth to muffle the overwhelming urge to sob, and finds that his cheeks are already damp with tears. His body heaves with the gasping breaths, he’s choking on the air that seems to be unable to get into his lungs.

And just as quickly as these moments of remembering come, they’re gone.

His body goes lax against his bed, arms falling limply to the sides; he’s dizzy with confusion as he continues to breathe heavily.

These moments afterwards are almost worse, because he doesn’t remember what took his breath away, and the more he grasps at the memories, the more they crack and crumble into dust and then into nothing. He’s left confused and bone tired with tear tracks beginning to dry uncomfortably on his cheeks, waiting for his breaths to even out.
