DS! Dream and DS! Nightmare, angst, hurt/comfort

Warning- suicide attempts

Might not be canon with Dreamswap it’s been awhile since I’ve looked up the au’s lore, regardless enjoy :)

Nightmare tried to kill himself. Error and Cross were devastated but tried to push it down in order to save their friend. Thankfully he was still alive, Error watched over him as Cross took the note he left to Dream.

The note was mainly about how he was a being of pure negativity and shouldn’t be alive because of it. When he walked into the JR building he was stopped by Color. Cross upset started to yell telling him that he needed to speak with Dream urgently. With all the commotion Dream comes down himself.

“What is happening?”Cross’s eyes land on Dream, and immediately he directs all his anger to him.

“I hope you’re happy, you finally fucking did it.”

“What are you talking about?”

“Nightmare, Dream I’m talking about Nightmare. He tried to kill himself because of you. And I hope it brings you all the fucking joy in the world that you drove your own brother to try and end his life.” Before Dream could speak up Cross shoved the note into his arms and pulled away from Color. Cross leaves to go back to the others, hoping Nightmare will recover.

Dream brought himself back to his office, choosing to not comment on what had happened to anyone else. Back in his office Ink throws the paper in the trash telling him he should be happy because he won’t have to deal with his troublemaker brother.

Dream can’t help but feel bad. Ink huffs telling him he’s going to go out and do stuff if he's going to be moping. Ink leaves Dream alone with his thoughts about his brother.

Dream glances at the clock, only a few seconds have gone by. Every second that passes is a second he could be doing paperwork. But as if his hands had a mind of their own he grabs the piece of paper from the trash.

Nightmare had just woken up and finally opened up his feelings about himself to his friends. He cried wishing he could have his brother back, for his brother to love him. Error felt bad for him Cross on the other hand was furious.

While they tried to comfort him there was a knock at the door. Error stays with Nightmare while Cross checks through the peephole completely shocked to see Dream. How did they even find where they lived?

Cross opens the door a crack, holding a knife behind his back. Cross is quiet until Dream speaks up.

“You said ‘tried’. I assume he’s still alive?” He asks hopefully holding the note in his hands. Cross glares at him.

“What’s it to you? Here to kill him?”

“No..I-I… may I just speak to him please?” Cross was taken back, he slid his knife away.

“Sure.. don’t try anything or I’ll end you.” Dream ignores his comment and Cross hesitantly opens the door wider and moves out of the way. Once he is inside Cross shuts the door and leads Dream to Nightmares room. Error was holding Nightmare who was still crying into his shoulder. Error looks up not expecting Dream to be there he immediately gets defensive.

“Error. It’s okay.” Error glances between the two, knowing Cross wouldn’t let him in unless he knew it would be okay. Error rolls his eyes but goes back to comforting Nightmare.

Dream couldn’t take his eyes off his brother, he looked tired and so sad. He was hiding his face and shaking trying to cover his sobs, he hoped it wasn’t because he was here.

“Can I…can I talk to him..alone please?” Cross and Error look at each other before slowly nodding deciding it was okay.

“We’re going to be outside of the room don’t try anything, we mean it.” Dream nods as Error slowly shifts Nightmare off of him. Dream sits on the other side of the bed. While Nightmare gives Error a begging look for him not to leave.

“It’s okay we’ll be right back.”

It gets quiet once they leave, Nightmare is still crying and shaking. He was leaning away from Dream but Dream moves closer.

“I read your note.” Dream starts.

“Wh-” Before Nightmare finished Dream spoke over him.

“I’m sorry for everything. For how I acted. For how I made you feel. For what I have done to hurt you and your friends. I..I’m ashamed and disappointed in myself...I don’t expect your forgiveness, I by no means deserve it. Just..please..don’t do this again.. I don’t know what I would do without you..”

Nightmare sobs harder and turns around clutching Dream tightly. Dream himself was crying.

“..please don’t leave me again..”

“I won’t Nightmare. I promise.”
