Woohoo! Congrats! It's been lovely to follow it in author comments since the Masters days. 🎊🎉
Thank you!! You were in Borgias fandom, I think?? It's wild because I had every intention of studying 18th- and 19th-century lit, but used a paper on depictions of the Borgias to get into my PhD program in the first place, and was so interested by the period that I ended up focusing on 16th- and 17th-century literature instead of most of the 19th (the absolute latest I ended up going was about 1820 and most was far, far earlier). Neil Jordan & Co probably merited a place in the acknowledgments, lol.

For the person looking for F!Steve/F!Bucky Instigator by lbmisscharlie on ao3 is really great.
Thank you for writing in!
Instigator by lbmisscharlie (oneshot | 9,604 | E)
It would be nice if just once -- just once -- Bucky could meet her way-hotter-in-real-life childhood hero without looking like a disaster.

What's your fav headcanon(s) for Steve in the MCU?
oh man I don't know if I have any! I don't tend to have a lot of headcanons for characters unless I'm writing them extensively, and I haven't done a whole lot with Steve (and all of it has been from Natasha's point of view, to date).
The one thing I think I've established for my fic is that he's really, really good with languages, and always has been (pre-serum) -- maybe because he grew up in a neighborhood with a lot of immigrants or just because he has a natural knack for languages. The serum made him, like, better, and during the war he had to pick up a whole lot of languages conversationally fast. But he was always good at them. There's a bit in one of the upcoming flashback scenes for Morning where he says he's fluent in Swedish, and I figured that that's from him having Swedish neighbors at some point in his life. He can also lip-read. But this is like the kind of headcanon I'll come up with for a writing purpose, and then once I've used it, it's established for me.

I finished reading Least of All Possible Mistakes and I'm so glad I read it. I loved how fully populated George's life was and her outlook on life in general, the way she worked at things and noticed people. Two of my favorite relationships, besides her romantic relationship, was were with her mom and with Sally. I loved seeing how they changed too as time went on. Thank you so much for writing and sharing! Oh also absolutely adored Microft's Mother!!
Writing George’s relationships with people outside of Mycroft is partly what made writing Least of All Possible Mistakes such a joy. In reality our lives are always populated with friends and acquaintances and family and neighbors and so on -- but in stories too frequently all we see are romances in a vacuum. How is that even possible? Every time I make eye contact with a cutie I’m inclined to text my friends, and what they say to me colors in my perceptions and actions, as well. The environment in which I was raised and the way I have loved before, and have been loved before, will all affect everything.
Plus, I make it a really intentional point to write positive, happy mother-daughter relationships. My relationship with my mother is one of my most important, and I like modeling the happiness I derive from that connection in my writing as much as possible.

@dreamingdespot Hello, I'm searching for a particular Dark!Steve/Reader fic and thought y'all might be able to help. It was kind of soft dark and Steve came home unexpectedly to reader who had gone grocery shopping with a neighbor. She was not allowed to leave the house without him or Nat, Bucky, or Sam I think. Any help is appreciated! Thank you!
@teenageregression - do you know of any authors that write marvel reader insert fics mostly featuring a male reader?
@anonymous -  idk what else to write but if you could make a dark yelena belova (from black widow) x reader that would be great :)

I've been going through my books to get rid of some, which has lead to a stack of books to reread. One of them is The Thief by Megan Whalen Turner, I loved it when I first read it and on each subsequent reread so i wanted to recommend it to you if you haven't read it yet.
Oooh, yes, this is on my list of “things people have recommended to me enthusiastically which I haven’t picked up yet”. I really need to do it soon instead of re-reading stuff!

Your writing is so lovely and strong, your Star Wars stories are like a heartbreak that's beginning to heal but still hurts. Thank you so much for sharing them. Also I reblog so many of your nature and architecture posts it's not even funny. Basically thank you for being so awesome and sharing that with us!
Thank you for such a nice message, friend! I’m glad you enjoy the blog. :)

I hate to be a bother and am asking this for 100% selfish reasons but do you have any idea of when we can expect the next chapter of Someday We'll Leave The Light On? Hope that life isn't stressing you out anymore.
It’s perfectly fine.
I’m hoping to get Someday updated in the next two weeks, though. I do have the outline done and everything, it’s just sitting down and writing that I’m struggling with.

Thank you! I can’t take credit for the floors - I just hired the contractor and they did all the work! But I’m really thrilled with how it all turned out.

The comments about Least of All Possible Mistakes actually convinced me to read a BBC Sherlock fic! I'm one chapter in and loving it so much. I've always found your gender bending fics to be so insightful, both of the character and of how society treats women. Thank you for all the lovely content you create and share!
Thank you so much for the kind words! Writing George and Anthea and George’s mother and Molly was a joy.

dreamingdespot replied to your post:Steve Rogers as the genius loci of America (or...
But I feel like “america” is too broad an idea/too big of a location to have it’s own genius loci, I think Steve’d be very specifically Brooklyn’s genius loci, especially thinking back on all those times he almost died. Maybe one time he did. But because of the depression his magic never came fully into itself and so it’s not until you get this super soldier experiment that he really comes into his own. Also explains why all other experiments failed.
I think you’re right. I don’t think it’s Brooklyn, though, because Steve doesn’t go back there enough - I think he’s the genius loci of a more abstract concept, the American ideal, the son of immigrants grown up into the defender of the nation. What America thinks it should be.
And - given the hints we have that genii locorum are constrained in some ways by their origins and powers - maybe that’s why Steve can’t sign the accords; part of the American ideal is the independent exercise of power, being the defenders and arbiters of justice wherever they see fit to do so, and how could you be the embodiment of that and agree to be constrained? You couldn’t.
(That doesn’t make Steve right, of course; it just makes him trapped in a way he doesn’t even know about yet.)

Wait you live in PDX? Also I'm in no way prepared for the kind of heat predicted for this week.
I live a bit north, on the Columbia, but not north enough for this week! Google says to expect 97/106/109 up where I live, and—yikes, I checked to see if it’s this bad through the whole metro area, and it’s 99/107/110 in Vancouver. Jesus.
Honestly, I don’t think anyone here can be prepared! Summer is our other season, sure, but like … high eighties/low nineties. This is obscene D:

For the prompt post, can we prompt au's of your fics? If yes, Shiga born in any other clan, or from a civilian family. If no, Itachi is a girl. Hope you are doing well.
Of course! And thanks for asking; it’s just that these last few weeks have been pretty hard on me, and it looks like it’ll get worse before it gets better. >.
(And because I’m biased, Shiga from the Nara Clan!)
+ Nara Miwa is a quiet child. True, all of the youngsters in the Nara Clan are quiet, but Miwa is something else – she stares at the puzzles in her play room as if they will give her answers to questions she has not asked, and stares at her parents for far longer than the other Nara infants her generation. It worries the adults around her.
+ By the time of age five, though, she settles out – Miwa has the classic Nara laziness of doing nothing unless it has a motivator behind it, but with the added requirement of it being intellectually challenging. She blitzes through the beginner’s exercises in a week, the intermediate ones in a month. She’s the prodigy that the Nara have not had for two generations.
+ When she hits the Academy age thankfully her social behavior settles out as well – she gains a best friend through the use of bribery with interesting shogi matches. Nara Hisoka balances her well; both lazy, both sleeping through classes, but Hisoka gets her to socialize with the rest of the Nara Clan and the infamous Ino-Shika-Chou alliance when before she’d have nothing to do with them. (Hisoka is also the one to have dragged her to the ninja Academy in the first place, but that’s a moot point by this time.)
+ Having two Nara on the same team is a magnificent disaster in the making. And Nara Miwa has already proved herself to be a prodigy – the Nara Clan makes no attempts to hide the intelligence of its children, but many in the village always keep their eyes on the coming generation for signs of talent. Especially ones that can be fast-tracked to the Strategic Division, Nara or no. Her teammates are Akimichi Kenji and Inuzuka Shisen.
+ Best friends are sometimes known to have uncanny understandings of each other, especially in the shinobi world where seamless teamwork can mean life or death. Together, Nara Miwa and Nara Hisoka change the landscape of the Intelligence Division.
+ When the Dansetsu no Sannin are established Nara Miwa is one of the first on the scene, gathering reports before memories can be muddled by the passage of time. She meets Jiraiya here, and Hisoka finds in Tsunade a fellow kindred soul, and something clicks.
+ When Namikaze Minato becomes Hokage Nara Shikaku might be the Jounin Commander and Head of the Nara Clan, but juggling two major duties is enough without adding a third – and Nara Miwa had been another prodigy, anyway. She becomes head of the Intelligence Division, and Hisoka is her Second.
+ They bring back ANBU Agent Wolf, an unofficial Sannin moonlighting as one of the Hokage’s-will-personified, from the brink.
+ Preventing a war is simple, after that, with the backing of the Nara Clan, widely known for their intelligence, Namikaze Minato, the Hokage and a fellow prodigy, and Hisoka.
5+ four extra because I enjoyed this AU way too much ha.
(And I haven’t decided, but Miwa/Shiga and Hisoka may or may not get married in this AU! Make of that what you will. :D)
[send me an au and i’ll give you 5+ headcanons about it]
