PART 16 of 'LOST SHOEGAZE with forgotten bands & great songs‘.
This edition primarily features cross-references to big names. While the band names may be familiar to one or another historian, the bands themselves have largely escaped the attention of a wider audience (on Spotify). What they have in common: they have released absolutely exciting albums and songs that deserve to be discovered.
Artist: The Charlottes (Cambridgshire, UK)
Releases: Love Happy (1989), Things Come Apart (1991) & a best of compilation
1988-1990. Another favourite band of John Peel, for whom they recorded a radio session in 1989. Drummer Simon Scott left to join Slowdive.
--
Artist: Televise (UK)
Different releases between 2005-2009 on Spotify
Another band with Simon Scott with different sound influences and experiments. Also highly recommended feat. Simon Scott: Lowgold and Inner Sleeve (a band for the next episode)
--
Artist: The Lassie Foundation (California, US)
Releases: Singles, compilations and 4 albums
1996-2006. Band of Jeff Schroeder, who then joined The Smashing Pumpkins from 2007-2023, Wayne Everett & Eric Campuzano, who played for Starflyer 59 (1997-2000) among others, and Frank Lenz, drummer for Richard Swift, The Weepies, Everest, Pedro The Lion, Starflyer 59.
--
Artist: The Prayer Chain (California, US)
Releases: Three albums (1992-1995), 'Mercury‘ (1995) has the most gazey vibes with distorted guitars.
Christian alternative rock band & the band before The Lassie Foundation feat. Wayne Everett & Eric Campuzano. Also with Tim Taber, founder of Floodgate Records (2000-2008) and Andrew Prickett, played with The Violet Burning, My Brother's Mother, OneRepublic and others.
--
Artist: Gaslight Radio (Queensland, Australia)
Releases: Handful albums, but only a Best of 1996-2006 compilation on Spotify
Active 1995-2006. Fun fact: In June 2015 Emporio Armani select the song 'Change the Ending‘ for an ad campaign.
--
Artist: Difference Engine (Rhode Island, US)
Album releases: Breadmaker (1997), Flex Lavender (a ‚lost‘ album, released in 2023)
Active in the 90s, split after a label drama. Members joing later Fern Knight, Skating Club and Magic Shoppe
Playlistcover: Old Magic Pallas (Bra)

Released: 2022
Genre(s): Dreamgaze, Dream-pop, shoegaze, indie, alt pop

atmos bloom is the dream-gaze band formed in Manchester by Curtis Paterson & Tilda Gratton. Last summer saw the release of their self-recorded debut album Flora via Californian DIY label Spirit Goth. It’s an exciting few months ahead for the band thanks to a recent relocation down South to London, the addition of two new live members and upcoming appearances at a string of London venues and Manchester Psych Fest.

New Year’s Eve was all about friends, fun, and Ludo—but with a twist. We played a Pokémon-themed version I designed featuring Raichu, Blastoise, Venusaur, and Charizard.
It wasn’t just a game though; it was a test run. Putting the board game into practice with friends gave me a whole new perspective. Seeing and feeling how the pieces moved, how the designs worked in action, and my friends' feedback showed me exactly where it needs tweaking.
From gameplay flow to piece functionality, there’s always room for improvement when you step out of the planning phase and into real use.
If you’re creating something—whether it’s a game, a product, or even art—there’s no better way to refine it than by experiencing it as your future audience would. It’s fun and productive.
This will be available in my Dreamgaze store. Follow me for more updates and safe your very own Pokémon Ludo!

I have this fantasy that someday someone will point out my Airiel pin on my purse or my backpack and I’ll drop everything and make out with them right then and there.

Mayflower Madame - Insight
Mayflower Madame’s Insight is an album that plunges listeners into an atmospheric post-punk and shoegaze world with a dark, psychedelic undercurrent. Released a while ago, this record sees the Oslo-based band pushing their sonic landscape to new depths, creating an expansive, haunting, and hypnotic listening experience. Known for their brooding soundscapes and melancholic energy, Mayflower Madame…

It’s official… @actuallywhirr are so ass back!
“SPEEDING” is the A/side from their recently released standalone 7” & it finds the forever-freed Modesto-based outfit fully immersed in their chill across a sub-3 min slice of hazily gazed, texturally vibed & tenderly cooed DreamPop.
‘Speeding b/w Busy’ is out now digitally via Whirr’s Bandcamp & the exclusive 7” dropped via @theefuneralparty
