I've been thinking Dread Persephone was known about before Lord Hades, right? And so:

Not 5 minutes after Zeus, Hades, and Poseidon split up their territories

Kore: Father!! What do you mean there's a new Ruler of the Underworld! Are you saying I should give up my reign?!

Zeus: Kore—

Kore: Who even is the person you're trying to usurp me with? I'll dissect them.

Hades: *flustered at the Beautiful and Power Goddess before them* It's me.

Kore: *whirls on Hades* You! *sees how cute Hades is* Goodness Father! You should have told me you were giving me a husband! I had the wrong idea!

Kore: *no longer paying attention to anyone but Hades* Nice to meet, Husband. I'm Kore on the surface but the only name you'll call me by is Persephone. What's your name?

Zeus: What?! That's not—

Hades: ...I am Hades. I'm honored to be marrying you?

Kore: Great! That's the spirit. Bye, Father! Bye Poseidon! *grabs Hades and absconds with him to the Underworld.*

I WISH more people noted the similarities between lord Dionysus and Lady Persephone. They're both gods of death and rebirth (Dionysus was born twice/thrice depending on the tradition; Persephone symbolically dies alongside the plants when she descends into Hades) and they're also gods of fertility and prosperity

I find the idea of the OG Persephone and Hades story that Persephone isn’t really the goddess of spring kinda funny

Like, her mother Demeter is responsible for that, she kills the world while missing her daughter creating the first winter and starts spring herself when Persephone is able to return. She isn’t a goddess of spring, her only role in the whole season is to be the catalyst that makes her mom bring spring around and outside that she’s only ever the queen of the underworld.

Before her marriage she was basically an undetermined goddess of nothing until she married Hades and got the underworld association, even just ignoring the history where she is probably an older idea than Hades and she predates him as an underworld goddess, it makes her fully a queen of the dead who gets a spring and summer time separation/vacation to spend time with her mom so people aren’t dying all the time.

Which, itself is a fun concept that the only reason we have a dependable cycle of seasons and not an eternal winter that would kill all of us is because the queen of the dead leaves the underworld so her mom doesn’t kill everyone

Every time I see a story about Hades and Persephone now, my mind starts clawing at the walls and screaming this is not what the story is supposed to be. This is not The Brand. The themeing is not there.

Demeter is not the bad guy, Hades is not the bad guy. If anything, Persephone is the bad guy. But she's not guilty, she's fated. It's a dance of themeing.

If Demeter is the bad guy, you take away the joy of summer and gratitude of spring. If Hades is the bad guy, you destroy the inevitability and softness of death. But Persephone.

The earth does not care if you die. The winter does not care if you slip on ice. The stone does not care if your ankle cracks. The world of circumstance is unkind and unapologetic. It's neither worse than Hades' death nor different; but it's to be feared. It's sudden and violent. It's a terror. The Dread Persephone.

The story of Persephone should be about self-discovery, not victimhood or tragic accidents.

the sudden realization that probably the coolest and most interesting new persephone story I’ve encountered in recent years is in the old gods of appalachia podcast and i’m not even sure at all if those persephone parallels were intentional or not

I would love love love to do a hijabi doodle! I admittedly haven't drawn many hijabs since my last Simarah art months ago, and I would love to practice! By the looks of it, you're muslim, right? If you want to, I could draw you with Nico! (Just give me a quick description like eye shape, hijab type, preferred hijab color, rough skintone color, etc.) If not that's totally okay :D

The first design from my inaugural 2023 Samhain Line:

An image of Persephone embracing her three aspects of Dread Queen (the skull), goddess of spring and flowers (the flowering vines), and patron of the immortalizing Eleusinian Mysteries (the skull's mushrooms crown).

I received this image during an oracular session this spring, not long before Beltane, and is the flagship design of my inaugural Samhain Line.

The pendant is one inch across and  3/16ths of an inch thick, solid and made to last, with a loop that can be used to attach a cord or chain or any kind of bail.

The pendant is available in sterling silver or red bronze.

These pendants are not consecrated. That is your responsibility to perform in accordance with your traditions.

Thank you weird dream for the uh "scifi horror+hades persephone" story featuring:

Zeus and Demeter's daughter being on life support and one day Zeus gives up and has the doctor take her off, lying that Demeter has also given permission as well

Demeter being reasonably upset and slightly less reasonably forcing the doctor to go all Victor Frankenstein to bring her daughter back

The girl now in a state of half dead half alive that does not fully satisfy Demeter, but is close enough at least to prevent any further mass destruction
