Alright, I’m gunna be honest with you, I’m not back from twitter cuz it crapped itself again. I just happened to choose the same day in a funny stroke of fate. I’m actually here because I feel an awful lot more comfortable here, and I need to be a little cringe. As a treat. For my soul. 

So, this new sona. I worked really hard on it for a long time, and it’s based on an avatar I really enjoy using in VRC. But here’s the problem. I hate drawing it. I like having a snoot, I like long tails, and I like flatter colors. I tried to spruce this up to not be flat on purpose but. It feels too much. Too LOUD and outgoing. She’s pretty and cute, but I don’t want to be pretty and cute I’ll admit. In VRC? Sure. And uppy ears and big floofy tails are great feeling in VRC. But not in my soul.

Adding a tail helped a lot. And drawing them with ears that are down also helped a lot. But as I laid in bed the other day I got mad about the scales. I only patterned them that way so they’d be NSFW friendly and so I could see them while she’s drawn with clothes on. But I also, in my heart of hearts, feel like that’s dumb as shit. I want pretty scales, I want a fluffy dragon, and most importantly a fursona that’s an ATV. I wanna be able to imagine this bitch swimming and flying and all that. What’s the point if I can’t daydream about looking at fish and birds and picking berries that are hard to reach? If someone wants to bone my vehicle for daydreams that’s their problem to figure out (sorry boyfriend). I can’t draw right now without crying. The brain worms have been getting the upper hand on me lately unfortunately. But using a mouse in mspaint only makes me misty eyed so I gave it a shot.

Maybe I’ll end up keeping the scales on shoulders and thighs things because it is cute af with clothing. And I DO want to be able to see scales while she’s clothed. But this feels a lot more fun and a lot more right. Furry scrungly hair, fluffy feathery wings that no one (including myself) will usually want to draw. BIG paws for BAPPING. CLAWED feet, NOT digitigrade cuz idk it’s fun in VRC but annoying to draw. NOT sexy and NOT Toriel. PRETTY iridescent scales to have fun looking at or imagining. Don’t need more detail or color than that. And I LIKE flat colors for fur and hair together like this >:((((( I think it’s PRETTY I feel a bit shameful for intending to change the design so soon again, or for having gotten it wrong in the first place. But that’s stupid. That’s a silly thing to feel about an imaginary character that’s for me to daydream about >:( it’s not that serious!

Charlie Brown Has Hair

Here’s a Peanuts strip from 1950:

As you can see, Charlie Brown’s distinctive hair squiggle from later years does not yet look like one long, curled hair, but instead has the appearance of bangs and protrudes from his forehead in profile.

Here’s another early Peanuts strip, featuring Shermy and Patty in addition to Charlie Brown:

Shermy has dark hair, which is indicated by Schulz coloring in his head with ink.  However, notice that his hairline is not outlined over his whole head, just the bangs and a tuft of hair at the back.  Patty, who has light-colored hair, has all of her hair outlined, but no color added in.  Looking at the depiction of Shermy and Patty’s hair, I think this is a fair assumption:

Also note that Schroeder, a character we know is blond, was originally drawn in the same manner as early Charlie Brown, with only the bangs and a tuft of hair at the back of the head outlined:

Now you may think I’m reading too much into this, and I usually do

however, Charles Schulz told NPR’s Terry Gross in a 1990 interview that: “"I don't think of it as not having hair. I think of it as being hair that is so blond that it's not seen very clearly, that's all.”

So Charlie Brown is a super blond kid with a crew cut.

I had some fun with the tattoos, which invoke both Baphomet and Shub-Niggurath, the Black Goat of the Woods with a Thousand Young.

My usual process involves a pencil drawing with two stages of inking with Pilot G-2 Gel pens, using 0.38 and 1.0 sizes, and then scanning at 600 dpi, passing through Photoshop to crop, lighten and contrast until the majority of the pen marks are gone, and then because I never properly learned how to use it, I blow it up in MSPaint and adjust pixel by pixel until I like it.

The problem comes with scanning.  I had a good deal on a Canon Pixma 2525, and discovered to my dismay that it likes to search for significant images and crop them out of the main image.  It’s algorithms also detest diagonal composition, and try to correct it, as if a small photo had been placed on the scanning bed  askew.

This really screws with things, as it can destroy a composition with the arbitrary vertical/horizontal realignment, along with the arbitrary cropping. To correct it from my end, since tech support could not find its ass with both hands and a flashlight, I have to draw heavy frames around the subject.  It took about five times to get the goats straightened out, and this is what they looked like by the time I accepted the final scans:

one of the more annoying types of sleep paralysis I get is where I can open my eyes a bit and am aware of my surroundings, but also I’m still hallucinating and can’t move

I don’t get the “shadowy figure at the foot of the bed” hallucinations, but I do occasionally get convinced that I heard a weird noise in the other room and I need to wake up to make sure there isn’t an intruder

this morning it was a more benign but still deeply frustrating “okay, let’s wake up. If I can turn on the lamp, the light will keep me from immediately falling back asleep” followed by about twenty instances of vividly hallucinating the feeling of reaching out and turning on the light, only to see that the light is still off. I also tried getting out of bed (”ah excellent my feet are firmly on the ground wait no I’m still just seeing blankets”) and grabbing my phone to scroll through tumblr (looking at a post of a poorly-drawn mspaint comic of kronk from the emperor’s new groove in the form of an anthropomorphic bull having a deeply emotional conversation with a young anthropomorphic pig man: “I must be awake, because there is absolutely no way this came out of my own head”)

then when I finally woke up I was like “.....y’know, there’s no reason for me to actually be up this early on my day off,” but after fighting for what felt like the better part of an hour to not be sleeping I couldn’t really bring myself to just shrug and lie back down

Its 8:07am on a bright autumn Monday morning. Your weekend was nice, but not nearly as long. It never is. You hold your briefcase between your arm and your side to free both hands to adjust your tie as you exit the lift onto your floor. You're just sitting down at your cubicle when you spot your boss coming in through the glass double doors of your accounting department. You worry he's about to issue another education for being late. You're one away from a write-up.

Your hands are numb with anxiety, but as he draws nearer to your cubicle, you see tears streaming down his face. He slams his hands down on your desk.

Your department files into the conference room where your boss already has a powerpoint presentation projected onto the whiteboard beside marker outlining 2017 project goals for this year's department budget.
