This International Day for Monuments and Sites (#WorldHeritageDay) sharing a few photos from my recent trip to Tamil Nadu. The ancient structures are one of the most excellent architectural edifices we have, that are constructed with great accuracy. Amongst the many, are a few must visits, most of them have been declared as the #UNESCO #WorldHeritageSites, and will certainly leave you awestruck with their grandeur. The monuments in the frame are : 1)#PanchaRathas - Group of #MonolithicMonuments at #Mahabalipuram, all carved out of a single rock are 5 Chariots from 7th century. These shrines built under the reign of Pallava dynasty are excellent specimens of #DravidianTemple architecture & Pallava art. 2)#ShoreTemple : Stands along the shores of the #BayOfBengal, built in 8th century under the patronage of Pallava kings, is one of the oldest free standing structures in #SouthIndia. Built of cut stones. 3)#YaliMandapa: Yali is a mythical animal that is believed to guard the temple and looks similar to a Lion. This is a very prominent sculpture in the Pallava art. 11 Yalis can be seen at the cave entrance. 4)#KailasanatharTemple, Kanchipuram : the shrine, dedicated to Shiva, is enclosed by a compound wall with niches, into which 58 small shrines were carved that depict many stories of the Hindu puranas 5)#VaradrajaPerumalTemple : most important #VishnuTemple in #Kanchipuram. The hall with sculpted and intricate pillar designs, hanging stone chains and Yalis carved from Monoliths are its popular features 6)#BrihadishwaraTemple, #Thanjavur : features frescos and a stunning architecture demonstrating the excellence achieved by the Cholas. The niches of the exterior are decorated with sculptures from Hindu purans 7)#GangaikondaCholapuram : 11th century temple is famed for its bronze sculptures, artwork on its walls, the scale of its tower and numerous inscriptions. 8)#AiravatesvaraTemple: sculptures from this temple are the masterpieces of Chola art. It bears testimony of the great architectural brilliance of the then artists. https://www.instagram.com/p/B_JytVhBPbk/?igshid=z2w5wjudffkf
