I haven’t found all the raws somebody show them to me for helsing and grandpa but like that newest chapter huh? jesus what am i gonna do about this info?

tf when you give your natural enemy the one thing that can kill you, immortal and timeless. Forged from your own blood so you can become equals. and his soul fuses into it posthumously. then you tell him your name so he has the power to completely destroy you. you know as a token of friendship

but actually i was more interested on the parallels of draluc and D. in the grandpa tag chapter, one part struck me the most and that was when they said only draluc is most similar in thinking to D, that’s why only one who can command them towards victory (i wonder if his constitution wasn’t so weak, he’d be able to fight 1-on-1 and win)

there was also a panel there in which D sees Ronaldo and remembers helsing, which cost him the game. God grandpa, you lost because of gayness. get a grip. also i wonder if draluc knew about it and exploited that

the parallels haven’t really been subtle. at first introduction to D, we already see how he’s so free spirited and does what he wants without regard for others so long as it promises fun, a true hedonist. funny enough, isn’t that just draluc too? 

at the end of the chapter he walks over to draluc and tells him to cherish his human friend. so we kinda knew he had a human friend. who also turned out to be a hunter. THE Hunter. and apparently he’s been pestering the guy like how draluc has been doing so to Ronaldo. no for real helsing is literally as tsundere as rona lmao also as cringefail

heurhgh. thinkin abt the prince and the sea witch AU because i am an ocean boy and and and theres so much to thinkabout with this one!!!! i love aus that tap into classic fairytales becasue theres so much to work with!!! connections to make and parallels to draw

context and thoughts under tha cut cus this au sorta escaped me at first and there's very little stuff about it in english

the original au came from a leaflet that was bundled with volume 8 on toranoana:

rough translation explains that mermaid princess hinaichi rescued prince ronaldo, and sea witch draluc offers to give her legs to meet him again (and if he doesn't like her she'll turn into seafoam) which she declines. (literally what she says is "no need!" and the big words to the side of her say "no regrets" which is hilarious.) thats the end of the story and ronaldo is left alone. also, john is a sea turtle that lives in a clam.

im lifting my own headcanons and such from the original little mermaid story (not so much the didney one) where the prince doesn't see the mermaid and instead falls in love with this woman who comes to help him from a nearby temple (who he doesn't realize is actually the princess he's betrothed to later.) in this au that's draluc who was observing from a distance. (i just drew a half sunken agora and im calling that a temple. watever. its refd from one of the old arts and i think its pretty)

i like the idea that ronaldo exaggerates his own memory of spotting draluc that day due to the distance making details difficult paired with the fact that he was probably a little delirious. the idea that he doesn't immediately put together that draluc is the person he saw is kinda fun 2 me, and of course he'd make up some beautiful girl in his head. of course he would.

im messing with some ideas about draluc deciding to meddle with ronaldo instead - does he offer to turn him into a merman to look for his made up maiden? or does draluc come to land for his own reasons? maybe they visit each other at the temple every day and bring each other little things and talk and stuff. itd be cute if they butted heads but still went to see each other every day anyways.

a popular thing in the au is draluc being captured - maybe ronaldo, desparate to find his love and only knowing she was some sort of fish, does something stupid like setting up nets and traps. hahah. maybe he catches draluc and takes him to his castle to learn about merfolk and such. iunno. whatever the case i hope they fall in love in the process and also bicker a lot like their usual schtick

ive got a little sad idea that borrows from some 30 years later au stuff where draluc is worried about ronaldo's lifespan (this is also in the orig little mermaid where mermaids live longer than humans by hundreds of years) but also can't turn human to match ronaldo because it's too painful for him to walk on legs (since one of the au rules is that he must always be weak and the orig little mermaid made it clear that legs hurted real bad)

also also i very big headcanon draluc the sea witch has a sunken castle that looks a lot like ponyo's dad's house on the inside. fulla potions and stuff. wouldnt that be cute! maybe hes got an interest in human life/a collection of old things kinda like didney little mermaid - since canon draluc is so well adjusted to modern human stuff like games and livestreams and whatnot. in this au i think he'd be a lot more stubborn and reluctant to admit it, though, cus i also like the idea that his grandpa went the route of loving a human and going to land and maybe he doesn't want to end up like that? but it might be fate just cus draluc and ronaldo parallel D and helsing so well.

also i still want hinaichi to be in it but her rejection of the plot is so funny and good, i don't want to shove her in without thinking of a good way for it to make sense. she's good friends with draluc and likes his cooking...can you cook underwater??? maybe magically?? maybe draluc takes up cooking on land and brings hinaichi things he makes??? maybe then she gets interested in humans and wants to come to land to try all the cooking theyve got. iunno.

i usually keep this sort of note taking and doodling to myself but this fandom needs all the stimulation it can get. hiii hellooo :]

Rating the kyuushi cast based on how likely I can beat them in a fight

Ronald: 5/10. This guy can actually fight well and I’d probably get beat up real bad but his mental fortitude is fragile so I can just wreck him emotionally. I’d whip out some celery and he’d scramble all the way back to his parents. oh wait

Draluc: 100/10. He’s old as dust I could breathe out carbon dioxide and he’d crumble apart. I don’t even need to take a swing just pour some Fanta on him and he’d die. Like yeah he has infinite revival but what can he possibly do if I chuck his ass in the sea.

John: 0/10. How could I possibly dare. And even if I did try I’d only have all the residents of Shin Yokohama jumping on me with iron bats in hand. The next day you’ll see me on the news for getting pummeled to death.

Kameya: 7/10. That slimy bastard can eat my fist this man can never win a fistfight. Just one punch and I can knock him out good. The only reason why it’s a 7/10 is because he’s a paparazzi and you know he has survived multiple murder attempts and parkoured his way out of death. Also I don’t wanna get blackmailed.

Handa: 5.5/10. Can fight as well as Ronald, and I’m even more dead if he boosts himself with blood tablets. But I assure you he won’t be getting the last laugh once I marry his mom.

Hinaichi: 4/10. She isn’t in the VRC for nothing. However, I’ll have you know that I also didn’t become a closeted furry for nothing. This is the part where I whip out my RM54.34 penguin onesie and make her crap her pants.

Sagyou: 4/10 He’s good with guns. The only way I could possibly beat him is if he’s like, right next to me. Which basically means I’m dead.

Hiyoshi: 3/10 Again, another person who’s good with guns. Plus with all the experience he’s gotten from his previous jobs, I wouldn’t stand a chance.

Maria: 1/10. She can manhandle a bear have you ever seen anybody more perfect? I made it a 1/10 because I would 100% allow her to choke me to death.

Ta chan: 1/10. I would also let her beat me to death. Though I’d probably cry after a few minutes in because of her incredibly detailed personal insults.

Satetsu: 6/10. Absolutely can punch you to the sun but is too nice to do so. I call him a pussy and he starts sobbing and dry heaving. I win by default.

Shott: 5/10. His hooks can maul me for sure. I’d probably win if I start kinkshaming him tho.

Draus: 2/10. I will die from his fatherly wrath. I think the only way out would be I just make ur wife jokes. Also if I marry his son.

Grandpa: 0/10. Have you seen that guy. I could stand 10 ft away from him minding my own business and that old man would still drag me all the way to the Bermuda Triangle just for lols.

Some Kyuuketsuki Sugu Shinu thoughts that DISTURB me:

Draluc said he didn't drink blood for a quite long time. And, remembering that tumblr concept about vampires, who dry up to the state of a mummy in the absence of proper nutrition... For how long EXACTLY and for what reasons he didn't drink blood? and what tragic backstory hides behind? If he dies every time trying to bite someone, then how was he fed before? Did his family treat him like a disabled? That would explain his living with Ronald. Does the Starving Vampire Relief Foundation exist in this universe? Do the legal professionals to protect the rights of vampires exist? If not then it would explain his living with Ronald.

Did Draluc create traps specifically for tourists? I mean, come on, they're so noticable and undifficult

We really need more vampire lore in the context of this world. Especially historic. I'm going insane, the whole vampires' situation seems SO similar to what happened in Tokyo Ghoul society BUT IT'S 18+ IN A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT WAY

I know it's none of my business but What the hell is going on in Handa's family? Why is his human father, who is not divorced from Akemi, making fun of her having a crush on Ronald? Is he okay with their dates? Does their marriage contract require Akemi to find a new mortal husband in advance? Did he see Handa's room? Most likely. How does he feel about his son having a crush on a former classmate AND his mother's crush? I want to know more about this incredible man. (Or are they divorced but forced to live in a same apartment?)

Those old ladies who supported Akemi during her date... What if they are her childhood friends?

Let's forget for a moment the manga is comedic: why are there so many vampires whose techniques are somehow connected with sexuality? Have they massively switched from nourishing blood to the fluids of human libido? This explains why Draluc is so skinny. Did they quarrel with the government about this? The feeling, that there is some damn bizzare in its cruelty story including trade unions and conventions, doesn't leave me.

How Grandpa earns so much money for so much relatives? Asking for a friend.

Are there any vampires working in/for the government? I seem to have just answered the previous question myself lmao

What happend with Ronald's parents? Were vampires involved? This would explain unnatural anger issues. Let's not look at THAT particular incident with his older brother? please

Not a question but Fukuma seems the most logical and understandable character in the whole show. My mother used to be the editor-in-chief of the most popular newspaper in the country, I know what I'm talking about. (ಠ‿ಠ)=b

I love works like Kyuuketsuki Sugu Shinu very much because, at first glance, they are absolutely funny and harmless but as soon as you start digging deeper, such abysses open up...

the funny thing about kyuushi is how it drops lore in akajas instead of the main manga but because it’s an episodic gag manga, i guess you can’t help it. but with all the lore i got so far (and what a difficult thing it is. thank you dedicated fans) i think i like how the central theme really is the human-vampire (esp hunter) relationship.

am i really writing meta about the vampire cock and boobs show? of fucking course. though less than meta it’s just me writing my thoughts

but with the recent akaja with northdin, it really occurred to me that the lore’s narrative had always hung on the fact that the 1800′s was a difficult time for everyone and now times are changing. how the vampire-human conflicts probably had so many casualties and how what we’re seeing is the aftermath of the event. a post-war recovery, if you will and it’s been centuries sure but vampires live so long it might as well be just five years ago to them. the vampire lore seems to be a story about how you deal with the after effects of conflict when you live so damn long. in fact, it’s so deep in the dragon clan’s narrative, that their feelings of loneliness, failure, and frustrations all goes back to that time.

Grandpa misses his friend (who is a hunter lmao) and thinks wistfully about how the time has changed and humans and vampires working together is such a lovely sight (as seen when he played tag with everyone in shin-yoko). he misses helsing so much and hopes he was still around to show what humans have done in the present. “Take care of your human friend” he says to Draluc, looking so sad most of the time but trying to connect with humans due to his fondness for them.

Mira doesn’t care much for humans but because of the conflicts and her hopes to make a better world for her son, she ended up not seeing him throughout his childhood and not even knowing him 200 years later. she doesn’t know the man he’s become. she doesn’t know he has a familiar. she doesn’t know he loves his friends and he’s happier with them. she knows he was lonely but simply thought it was her failure that made it so. so she selfishly kidnapped her own son and turned him into a kid again to fulfill her own desires. she was worried and frustrated at the fact that she seemed to have missed her chance to be with him until draluc pointed out that there was still time to get to know each other

Draus sheltered his son and did all he could to keep him safe knowing he was weak. (when northdin mentioned how seeing draluc die was so chilling, he understood why Draus was like that) the human-vampire conflict worsened his anxiety for his son who could not use the dragon blood’s powers due to how weak he was. so he ended up spoiling him, his only son. he even made a ring to ensure the kid’s protection from other clans. he met with the other clan leaders and in his own way and influence, tried to make the world a better place for him. By the time his son sought independence, he still couldn’t help but worry about him.

And then there’s northdin who does not like humans at all. like Draus, he worries for Draluc in his own way even when the kid had no respect for him. (like fucking hell that akaja) he’s anxious about trying to make the kid stronger because the human conflict is getting worse, which was why he took the kid under his wing to begin with. He cared for the kid to the point of running straight to them when he found out an exorcist had found draluc, even begging that he could drive a stake to his heart if he promised to keep the kid safe. and it was this that changed clergy at the time of the human-vampire conflict too! which led to northdin turning him and how he’s lived with the regret when he didn’t wake up to the point that his diary is a mess (again that fucking akaja) and now they met and there’s closure to it.

and then there’s draluc who is caught in between. being young and sheltered to not know enough about the conflict (i mean he sat and had tea with a goddamn exorcist lol) and having experiences that’s indirectly caused by the conflict. his weakness and sheltered life in the middle of the fights had isolated him from others, but also made him lonely. his mother couldn’t see him due to her work. he didn’t have friends and he was treated as a delicate thing. his first friend was John, who he was reluctant to take with him due to the fear of trapping him forever in a life of eternal loneliness with him (even though he was so overjoyed at finally having a friend!) “im not lonely. i have john” but it’s different now that he’s in shin-yoko. everyday has been fun for him.

and now, in the present you can see how these people are trying to heal from the aftermath and how ronaldo and draluc’s relationship is somehow central to it, the proof of the future they had aspired, or the closure they had always wanted. ronaldo and draluc’s easy friendship has touched grandpa, who had always wanted the easy friendship between vampires and humans (edit: i reread the grandpa tag chapter and he had a flashback of his friend through ronaldo?? god fucking dam), how ronaldo and hinaichi looking for draluc when mira took him made her understand that his son is not the kid he used to know, that she didn’t really know him but it’s not too late to. How Ronaldo being there to take care of draluc had reassured Draus that his son would be okay and he won’t be lonely. (northdin is a work in progress lol. but he’s also working on his issues with his guilt for clergy. which draluc was responsible for ahaha) 

and now Draluc is no longer lonely and has someone to be with. someone who is always fun and doesn’t treat him like a delicate flower (for better or worse) but is also reliable enough to save him (ranging between kidnapping to the getting flushed down the drain lol) and they’re trying to love happy now. a lot of vampires are. so i think it’s nice. i have no idea what im saying.
