That idea where Dick gives his guards heart attacks with his acrobat antics?

Now trying to assign who would be the most hilarious in the role of guards.

Ser Gordon, Lord Commander of Kingsguard, going grey at an incredible pace… Probably not helped by his niece (Kingsguard aren’t allowed to marry, so we’ll have to go with the older canon of Barbara as Gordon’s orphaned niece) also being in on said antics.

Ser Hal Jordan, perpetually trying to outrace the dragon on his very annoyed horse, hoping to be there in time to catch their lunatic prince when he finally misses a jump…or at least be far enough away that he is not the one who has to tell the king.

Or, Ser Wally West(erling), the newest and youngest kingsguard, who has absolutely no clue why everyone else is freaking out about this. The prince has good reflexes, he can handle it, right? (He’s also the only one of the guards NW allows to ride him. Gordon is not entirely sure whether the dragon is assessing him as potential mid-journey snack or not)

Not being able to marry or have kids sounds like such a big disadvantage in the long run tho 🤔 like, boost morale for the king and kingdom by allowing them to have a family. They need more motivation not to desert the ruler 👁️

Bruce regularly raises Gordon’s salary because he cannot afford to lose one of his most loyal people, at the same time Gordon is so, SO tempted to retire but also— if he doesn’t deal with the crazy, someone less experienced is going to. Which means Dick would have even more opportunity to do dumb stuff 😭

The image of Hal having that split second to judge whether it’s going to be his head on the block or not is so funny to me 🤣

And WALLY!!!! Nightwing totally adores the hyperactive child. Reminds him a LOT of Dick. And Dick also adores Wally, so it’s a feedback loop of adoration between dragon and rider. 🥺💚

You pulled yourself out to the farm yard, the yellow-grey morning sun streaming weakly out from the clouds. Sighing, you rub your hand over your face, dragging the bucket of chicken feed to the little hut at the edge of the enclosure.

Unhooking the door, you peer into the darkness, then let all of the chickens out in a mass of feathers and indignant squawks. There was one pair of eyes that refused to leave, however, so, bending down, you walk inside the low-ceilinged hut to coax the bird out.

"Alright, nap time's over, little buddy."

Your voice, still sleep-muddied, fills the small space as you collect the eggs and place them gently in the woven basket you grabbed from the hook next to the door. The eyes don't move, only stare at you from the small hollow it had chosen.

Groaning slightly, you slog over and reach out, expecting to feel soft feathers, maybe a sharp beak under your fingers. Instead, you feel hot, smooth scales, and warm breath. Jerking backwards, heart hammering, you bend down until you're eye level with the creature.

It squeaks, fucking squeaks, and jumps up, stretching before emerging from the hollow in the wall of the hut and walking onto your arm, which was clinging to the ledge to prevent you from falling onto your ass.

The creature is skinny, a thin, whip-like tail twice as long as its body trailing along behind it. Tiny spikes march in an orderly line from the top of its head to the sharp spike at the end of its tail. It squeaks once more, burrowing its head into your shoulder. It seemed to be digging for something.

Oh.

It's hungry.

You had heard tales of dragons, but in all of the stories, they were giants, fearsome and scary, burning down villages for the hell of it. This little one was...kind of cute, they way it was nuzzling into your arm. Maybe you should keep it, for the company.

And it wouldn't hurt to have a protector for the farm, right?

Dragons do not build nests. Instead, they sneak their eggs into other unsuspecting species and let them raise their young instead. And this “chicken” that just hatched on your family’s farm sure doesn’t look like any chicken you’ve ever seen.
