thank you for the ask! red velvet cake: what would you and your f/o's ideal date night be? which of you would be the one to ask the other out? where would you go and what would you do? - Date nights between us are pretty chill honestly, neither of us are one to get fancy and honestly an ideal date is just eating a nice big meal at home. as for who asks who out it would be me asking first, izu is surprisingly shy at times. banana pudding: how do you and your f/o cuddle? does it vary when one of you is sad or tired? do you fall asleep huddled up to each other, or do you prefer to have space to roll around? - Izu is surprisingly cuddly, she loves how warm my body is. Because im part dragon my body heat runs super high compared to others and so im like a furnace for her to cuddle with. she routinely falls asleep against me, purring softly. girl will actively fall asleep on top of me XD

“Huh…” That had to be a joke. A fell dragon with that kind of sweet tooth? Griss’ eyes glimpsed the plate again, and how it looked nearly ready to give up beneath the mountain of dense, sugary confections. This couldn’t be anything but a joke. Then came the final nail to drive it home.

“Wait, what?” Startled by the order - neither the suddenness nor the order itself, but the content of it - Griss looked back at Rafal with wide-eyed confusion. “You can’t be serious.”

But the gleam of pride in ruby eyes said oh, I am completely serious, and stuck him between his loyalty and, for once, an inexperience he didn’t realize existed in the first place. He had been told all his life that fell dragons preferred offerings of spice, and had followed all the traditions accordingly. Then Rafal just flipped them over and shook them all out.

“OK, so you’re serious. Not exactly the kind of command I had in mind…” But he wasn’t going to say no. If he got it wrong, then maybe he’d get to feel the dragon’s flames. Or maybe Rafal would pick something more party-appropriate and throw him onto the table instead, breaking all that glass and ceramic under his back. Just the thought of it was enough to change Griss’ tune from reluctance to renewed enthusiasm.

“But it’s as good as done. Wait here.”

The table Rafal had directed him to had a fine spread, but Griss couldn’t tell the cakes from the fancy cheeses, much less the savory finger foods from the actual confections. So he picked one of each, as much as he could pile up, which wasn’t nearly as much as Rafal’s first plate. Griss didn’t have the same meticulousness or care when it came to space efficiency, but he did manage to grab at least eight sizable portions: Cubes of hardened icing, a figure cast in something that looked like chocolate, fruit tarts (those were easy to recognize), some sort of white, gooey bun, a miniature glass striped on the inside with a kind of colorful jelly, an amorphous red thing (it just looked fun), those little cubes on a stick he’d tried earlier that night, and a bowl of something he thought was a pudding, except it was dense and kind of lumpy. He carried back the whole selection and set it in front of Rafal.

“For each one you don't like, pluck off my fingernails, one by one,” Griss offered with ill-concealed excitement, already holding out a steel-laden hand. “Or bash one of those bottles over my head. I’m not picky.”

"There you are!" Spying the head of fine white hair, Griss calls over three other students milling around the refreshments, then pushes past them, eliciting a couple of startled grunts but little else. One glimpse of the metal that studs his rough-hewn jacket is enough to discourage them from making an issue out his etiquette, and Griss hardly notices them anyway, eyes fixed instead on the fell dragon that had accepted his loyalty in a world absent of both of his gods.

"You're harder to find than I thought in a place like this. Almost had me think you'd escaped the spell." He glances toward the table and its rows of decadent cakes, pies, and other pastries, and makes a face. He'd had enough hapless stumbling across sweets tonight to last him a lifetime. Rafal's plate tells another story though and Griss raises a brow as two pieces suddenly click together. If he'd been hovering around this table the whole time, then of course Griss wouldn't have seen him right away.

"Can't imagine the kid with enough guts to make a fell dragon serve their sweet tooth like this. Unless--" He makes eye contact with Rafal and the truth drops over him like a cold bucket of water. You have a sweet tooth.

He'd come to know the sound of that voice even with the few meetings that spanned their acquaintance in number. The Hound's approach was noted with a nod as he drew near, with a name made interchangeable with greeting, acknowledgement, and even some growing degree of welcome.

"Griss."

The other man's belated arrival meant that the passion of Rafal's foraging from moments prior was little suggested by his presently cool tone. A lightning fast scamper, knocking into elbows and fellow patrons in his timely gamble to seize the most choice desserts. Though, the two made for a humorous contrast to those aware of his. . .preferences. A porcelain plate packed with explosions of sweetness from rim to rim, center to edge, told that story quite handily, but to Rafal it was no guilty secret which words evaded.

Red meeting with red, he finished for the thought with a prideful smile. "You may state the obvious, or I shall do it plainly for you; I am fond of confections. Their comforts reign supreme for they are among the few things in this world that make life worth living."

Those who adjudged him dramatic for his claim would hold a false opinion. Rafal bespoke only his truth, and he dared to call it even a cardinal truth of this world! No flavor and no food was greater than that which was sweet, the highest call of luxury that lulled the taste-buds to heavenly bliss. Should this fell dragon abstain from sleep and drink in his journey of redemption he would never extend that lunacy to his cherished desserts. He would sooner perish.

"Now make yourself useful, Hound. If you are my faithful servant, then let this be my first order of command—" Little contested, there were at least some dramatics involved in the jab of his finger, bringing attention anew to the table behind Griss.

"Absolve me of judgment. Retrieve for me a second plate."

Are you staying home from work or school?

My husband and I have both been working from home since mid-March. I was already pretty much working from home before that anyway (been doing it for about a decade), so I was used to it and therefore don’t feel my life has changed dramatically. We’re really lucky that our jobs can be done 100% from home -- March and April were really busy months for both of us work-wise, so I think that helped us both cope and feel useful. 

In a weird way, lockdown didn’t/doesn’t upset or stress me out? I think it’s because I had a head start on worrying about the pandemic back in January: I have family in China/HK/SE Asia and I was really, really worried about them for a bit. I follow a few Chinese-language social media accounts of people based in China / East Asia and what was coming out of there was really, really bad -- sometimes worse than what was being reported in Western media -- and people over there were so angry and terrified for months before anyone in the West started worrying about it, I think. 

So, by the time the pandemic hit the UK and lockdown was announced, I think I was just relieved that finally there was something I could “do” about what was going on in the world, if that made sense??? I’d been reading these first-hand anonymous accounts “on the ground” in Chinese for two months by that point, so I felt like I kind of knew what to expect physically and emotionally. (My family and family-friends out there are all fine as far as I know, btw.)

If you’re staying home, who’s with you?

My husband. 9 weeks into lockdown and we’re still very much enjoying having each other around! He misses his colleagues, but he doesn’t miss his commute. We have the odd Zoom party and catch up with his family on FaceTime (it’s weird how it took a pandemic for us to think of video-calling them instead of phoning them), but yeah, he’s been great lockdown company and I love having him home! I don’t want him to go back to work LMAO! 

We work in the same room, but tend to be very good at focusing on our work during the work day, so we don’t really distract each other and give each other space when needed (mentally rather than physically, though; we live in a tiny flat with only like 3 rooms so it’s hard to give each other physical space). We play endless games of Civ6 against the other during breaks from work.

Are you a homebody?

Before 2020? No, not at all. But after lockdown started? I’ve been discovering the delights of just chilling at home with my husband, being busy and in-demand at work, writing, reading books, teaching myself Photoshop (working through an online course LMAO) and playing Civ. 

Also I’ve been really happy about all the money I’m saving from not going out and not buying anything apart from food and books LMAO! 

I’ve not really felt very talkative this year; and after lockdown started, that even extended to many of my real-life friends -- I’ve just felt happy staying at home and not talking to anyone except my husband, for some reason. (As an aside -- sorry to all of you on Tumblr and Discord for not chatting so much -- it’s not personal, it’s just whatever phase I’m going through, both IRL and online!) I’m not depressed or anything, I don’t think -- just happy doing my own thing for a bit.

An event that you were looking forward to that got cancelled.

The one that I was most gutted about was the Euro 2020 football tournament (soccer to you Americans of course) -- I had tickets to go to the final in July. But the organisers said they’ll hold the tournament next year and tickets will be valid, so I don’t feel so bad about it now. 

I miss the gym the most, I think. Everything else has kind of sorted itself out (even cancelled events), but the gym / working-out thing hasn’t. I started doing some home workouts with resistance bands at first, but I’ve fallen out of the habit of that somewhat -- it’s just not the same as having an actual barbell in your hands.

I was also meant to go on holiday to Greece with friends (12 of us) but that’s been cancelled. Funnily enough, when lockdown was announced in the UK I was secretly relieved, because I had a lot of social events lined up and my social life had been so busy up to that point that I was starting to get rather overwhelmed with it all. Turns out I’m an extrovert with a strong introvert streak.

What movies have you watched recently? What shows are you watching?

Hmmmm.... not really so much movies, I think. Aside from Frozen 2 (again). We’re currently working our way more through the 1994 BBC TV series of the classic novel Middlemarch (because I’ve been reading it), but we tend to play Civ, or read, or bake/cook, rather than watch TV.

What music are you listening to?

Gosh, loads, haha! The Frozen 2 soundtrack. Ibiza clubland tunes (to remind me of good times, LOL). Listened to old Eurovision tracks over the weekend (to get me in the spirit, even if Eurovision 2020 was cancelled). Attended virtual concerts that my friends in music bands have been holding. Pretty much everything you can imagine, whenever the mood strikes. Today I was listening to Suede’s Singles.

What are you reading?

Right now I’m reading “Middlemarch” by George Eliot; I’ve been getting through lots of books since February, both fiction and non-fiction.

That said, I’ve not really felt like reading fanfic much -- stopped reading Dragon Age fanfiction in December or January (and completely fell out of the fandom for a while, too) so I’m really behind on every longfic I was following. I’m only just starting to catch up on it all, in May, although I don’t see myself being in fandom/online that much. I’ll get to all your fics eventually! I’m just slow 😄

What are you doing for self-care?

Lots of things, and I think they’re helping because I’ve been coping OK so far (sorry this list is so long!): 

Staying offline -- especially off Tumblr and Discord and Twitter -- more often, which has really helped me get work done (sorry I’ve not been around much, though) and finally getting around to doing all those projects I didn’t have time to do / wasn’t home often enough to do is helping, especially when I can see progress being made 

Weekly therapy sessions -- started these last year when my brother got very seriously ill; the therapy sessions have now moved online via video-call rather than face-to-face and in-person, but I’m still keeping up with them through the pandemic. I haven’t felt like I need it, tbh, but I figured it couldn’t hurt to keep having therapy just in case...

Being grateful for how lucky I am -- I’m still alive and well for now, as are my loved ones, my husband and I are still in jobs / earning money, and things could be a lot worse; for example, at least I’m still able to go for walks in the park: my brother is officially a “vulnerable category” person who has to stay completely indoors and self-isolate for 12 weeks, even though he’s in remission; he can’t even go to the shops to get food

Working -- it’s been really nice sometimes to keep busy. The nature of my work means that unfortunately I can’t completely switch off from the news, so I tend to look at less of the bad and sad news and consume more the “how does the pandemic affect my specific specialism or field” news -- I find that limiting my news consumption is helping

Husband and I go for a walk in the park in the sunshine once a day (it’s been warm and sunny in London ever since lockdown started in March) for like 45 minutes a day. We have a really lovely park and I’ve taken lots of nice nature photos, and have discovered parts of the park and our neighbourhood that we didn’t know before, which has been very exciting 😁

We’ve been cooking and baking a lot more because we’re not commuting, and we’ve got time to cook ourselves nicer / healthier meals, and experimenting with baking puddings and cakes.

Taking multivitamins and fish oil every day, with boosters for Vitamin D3 and magnesium -- I actually think the latter has helped me sleep better and helped with motivation this year, but who knows LOL

FaceTime with husband’s family -- I actually think this lockdown has improved the quality of our relationships there, and they’ve been really happy to chat to us more often than usual

Just... not pushing myself on anything: usually I’m a really chatty and sociable person, but this year I’ve been far less chatty and just not felt so sociable, and just enjoyed being away from people to read and write or whatever. My one and only goal in 2020 is to survive it -- literally, given that there’s a pandemic on, LOL. Anything else is a bonus.

Knights Hospitaller (7:5) v. The Puptisserie (8:6)

Waaaaaaaaarrrrr!! Get those juices flowing and those armies in and out the door. No sleep, no taking time off here. Get to work people! Puptisserie come out on top against the Knights Hospitaller. A bit of history here as well in the build up to this war. WAR DECLARED: June 13 of YR1 - War declared on 7:5 WAR WITHDRAWL: February 7 of YR2 - 7:5 withdrew from war

8:6 story in build up to war

Regarding the build up towards the war, we had been sitting in a WPA / science pump setup for about a week from the end of our first war of the age. At the time we were 2nd on the server in land, and after being waved by the #1 KD at the time, we felt that we had some breathing room to sit for a while and improve our provinces. That went pretty well for about 2 or 3 days, but eventually we ended up in a position where we had numerous KDs breathing down our neck and asking for war, while at the same time having the resources we needed to get ready for a war (build conversion and dragon gold, runes for rituals) stolen by smaller KDs. Things came to a head with 7:5 as they had been stealing a lot of GC off of our provinces. At the time they had been dealing with a wave from 8:7 so we assumed they wanted the GC to prepare for a war with 8:7. We asked them to stop stealing the GC and we wouldn't make their lives miserable by doubling up their troubles with 8:7, they subsequently CF'd with 8:7 and the stealing continued. We sent a couple of deterrence hits their way, they retalled the hits, continued the stealing, and ran the meter up so they were unfriendly with us. At that point 5:12 also began stealing and opping us trying to precipitate a conflict - they also ended up giving us unfriendly relations. About an hour later 7:5 did a full wave on us. We were in a situation where we had no war build or no ritual, limited resources, and had managed to simultaneously get ourselves in conflicts with two KDs that were better prepared. We asked both for CF's, 5:12 agreed right away when they saw our situation with 7:5. That gave us a bit of breathing room to look at the situation and critically think about our chances against 7:5 in a war.

We saw that despite not having many of the fundamentals in place of our typical war prep, we were in a position where we had an extra 40k units on 7:5, and better EPA. At the time we had around 200,000 extra NW at a lower land size. We decided to use what GC we had left on us to do a mass conversion to war builds and declared on 7:5 later that day. We managed to get lucky circumstances and two KD's exited war on the same tick as we ended up declaring with enough runes to allow us to up a war ritual, which was a huge boost to our chances for success.

Well we waved first, they wanted CF but we needed war. Our ranks were crumbling being in war build for a very long time and people getting restless! We had several war proposals, but we had also an internal dispute that lead to a province defecting. We proposed a time for war but that was ignored so we waved. Hard to keep people these days, especially in utopia so we have to make things happen. We also were double waved by 8/7 so it was a busy build up.

As for my comments on the war, it was a very strange conflict where the unit differential basically stayed the exact same the entire time. As I said we started around 40,000 up on them, that was consistent for around 36 hours, and then when their ruby dragon arrived that decreased to just over 20,000 lead and stayed there for the rest of the war. Nothing either side did seemed to affect the outlook on the war that much, or rather I should say that both sides effectively countered any progress that the other made. At the end of the day the big difference maker is that we had large unbreakable T/M's that were able to slowly add the land they needed to really get their econ going. The same provinces did around 90% of the work killing the dragon from 7:5, so our core didn't have to drop units. Despite having the UB advantage the result of the war wasn't totally clear. 7:5 was able to maintain a large peon advantage (sometimes 60,000+) throughout the majority of the war right up until the end and having to kill a 2nd Ruby Dragon which we assumed was on the way would have been very difficult. When we saw that the 2nd Dragon was coming, we really took the whip to the T/M's in our KD and got the peon count evened out by coordinating FB runs with semi (or full) chains on their remaining T/M. I really give a lot of credit to 7:5 for a tough war, first for having the guts to wave up around 10% NW, as well as keeping the fight so even for 3+ days. We were apprehensive about going to war with them because we know of their reputation from the last couple of ages of winning most of their wars and being a really tough out. Giving their abrasive qualities when it comes to picking fights with people, I could well see us running into them again later this age! hands off our GC from now on though ;/

Oh! last comment, running 20%+ GS and WT on your entire core is incredibly toxic.

Dany did all the work and suffered the greatest sacrifices and had the longest widest spanning and undeniably most iconic journey out of any character in the show, and still STILL...it all was thrown away all just so that the cool kids winter wolf clan  trio could go off and dick around into the horizon. So that of all people, "pity me I'm in a wheelchair with the personality of a fossilized rice wafer" Bran could rule. That little monotone saboteur who knows all that ever has been, is, and would be...set it all up. I firmly believe that and his ever so slightly beneath the surface smug indifference shows it. I wish the Night King mashed him up into pudding. He needed Dany and her forces/Drogon out of the way and Jon far over the wild yonder so that he could end up sitting pretty.

Sansa's little snow fort kingdom would have fallen if Dany hadn't herself roasted thousands of the walkers in the horde. Dany lent Rhaegal to Jon to do the same thing for added aid. When Jon was getting wrecked by the night king in the air and was surrounded on the ground she came to his rescue twice. Which isn't even including her rescuing him when he went past the wall and she lost Viserion. Stanka Snark can stuff her equally throne hungry gullet with lemon cake until she is twice the size of Samwell for all I care. She clearly spent enough time around Littlefinger to know how to best plot and pit people against eachother. She and Varys the no hair-is both condemned Dany BEFORE she did anything wrong. When they were hiding in the crypt Dany had a sword in hand up above. Of course Sansa isn't happy that she was clearly losing the ear and sway she had over Jon, to Dany. Thusly she'd say anything to ensure she wouldn't have to answer to anyone.

As for Varys lest we forget when he was talking to Oberyn in front of the iron throne he looked at the throne itself when matters of passions and ambitions arose. Then there's the lovely comment he made about how at the end of the day wing wang ding dong wieners running the world over women, when he was talking to Tyrion at Dragonstone. What great progressive thinking. Such loyal hearty unshakeable faith on his part. Dany did more for the common folk at that point than Varys' little behind the scene schemes accomplished under the three different kings he served in his lifetime.

After all that she is reasonably beaten down by all the losses and betrayals into believing that ruling by fear was the only way. Jon didn't step up and assure her he loved her or that she could be loved by the people. He just stood there like he was a spaced out emo dunce staring at a rack in hot topic.

Hell even Tyrion's assurances failed time after time. From getting the original house of Martell and Tytell wiped out due to his oversights to freeing Jaime who died anyway. The same Jaime he spoke out for saying he would not return to Cersei's side. Half of her Khalasar, both her dragons, her new and short lived love which was one of the sole comforts in her life besides Missandae and Jorah. All three of which she ended up losing!

I'd burn down more than just one city after enduring all that. And so would more of you out there than you'd like to admit.

In the end Dany gets stabbed by a wimpy concealed dagger after Jon tells Tyrion he loves her and after he defends her. It was less than 40 seconds and she said nothing and did nothing. Just one stab and laid down and it was over. A total lack of creativity, inspiration, and consistent continuity to this amazing resilient character's story. I'd even go so far as to say it lacked respect for Emilia Clarke the actress playing her as well. Ten years to be thrown away in a lackluster ill fitting scene such as the likes of that farce. 

That was her end. At the hands of a brooding Mary Sue/Gary Stu that is beloved and most known for running off to join the hardcore misfit version of the boy scouts and play Peter Pan's lost boys beyond it.

And shockingly enough what directly followed was an awkwardly placed scene of dry humor and pretentious power struggles between the remaining kingdoms of Westeros. After a major character's death. Just casual business like nothing.

In the end we learn that women can't handle power unless you have men in high places that allow you to have it, (looking at you Sansa) you get to be queen in the North cause your one brother assasinated the biggest hurdle in your way and the other climbed (obviously metaphorically speaking since he rightfully is in a wheelchair) into power and granted it. Way to prove Varys' cock comment right. But whoopdee doo for you. You finally got that pretty dress and the spotlight. The message is that over all as it showed with Cersei, Sansa's aunt Lisa, Olenna ect ect. All women that ever tried to stand up get brought down and a man takes over or cleans up the mess. In this case even gets off scott free. Fuck you David benioff and Db Weiss. If this is what you sincerely wanted to do with the story then I and over million others signing that petition wish your undeserving hands never touched this series. If the rumors are true that you were not only offered 10 episodes for the final season but 2 more seasons total to work with in general, and you TURNED IT DOWN. I hope you never have any successes or accolades in your future careers ever again.  

RIP Daenerys Targaryen. So sorry about the send off you got.

I hope Drogon carried you off to some Red Preistess or Undying Wizard to ressurect you so you could come back and plunge a real sword right through gloomy pretty boy Jon's face and build a new throne with Sansa and Bran's skulls as the hand rests. Hats off to Yara GreyJoy who turned out to be the only real one of the lot of em when it comes to being ride or die to an alliance.

Birthday

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, BULMA! (This prompt for Kathryn).

The morning sun shone brightly against the white marble countertops in Capsule Corp.’s kitchen. Vegeta, however, had better things to do than marvel at the beauty of the day. He needed to fuel-up before training. Now that Kakarot was back from the dead, a fire was lit under him. Super Saiyan 3 his ass. What a ridiculous form. Wasteful. He would find a new form, a better one, then Kakarot would be the one needing to play catch-up for once.

Vegeta was on his third bowl of breakfast when something at waist-height spoke up in a tentative voice. “Papa?”

Pausing mid-bite, he looked down to where his son was. The small boy’s face was set in determination, hands fisted, his cheeks puffed in an attempt to bolster his nerves. Vegeta had seen the same expression on the boy during their training sessions. Trunks was trying to put on a brave front. 

“I need help.” 

Vegeta’s brow hitched up. It was rare for Trunks to ask him for help. The boy knew his father favored a rather brutal hands-on approach to learning. Sink or swim. Fight or die. No one came to Vegeta for help unless they were really, truly desperate.

This ought to be good.

When Trunks saw that his request wasn’t instantly refused, he pulled something out from behind his back. A magazine, folded open to a shiny picture of a strawberry cake, was cautiously pushed across the kitchen counter for his inspection.

“I want to make this,” he explained. “But I don’t really know how.”

A cake? The boy was pestering him about dessert? Vegeta pushed the picture back. “Ask your mother.” She was, after all, far better at cooking than he was.

“I can’t. It’s for Mom.”

Wait… Vegeta glanced at the calendar on the fridge door and grimaced. Tomorrow’s date was circled in thick red marker: August 18th. Bulma’s birthday.

Damnit. He had spent enough years on Earth to know that celebrating one’s birth was something of a big deal, especially to Bulma. So far he had managed to avoid most events, scraping by with the bare minimum of effort. But now that he was married, he got the feeling that his usual recalcitrance wouldn’t be so well tolerated.

“We have to do something,” Trunks pleaded, eyes the same as Bulma’s looking hopefully up at him.

That woman… She had housed him. Kept him well provided for, far better than the Frieza Force ever had. Took care of him, gave him company even when he didn’t want it. Especially when he didn’t want it. She had… loved him. Bore his son. And somehow found it within herself to forgive him after the world tournament.

If there was one person he would suffer for, one person he would endure some overly sentimental display of affection for, it was her. He still woke up some nights, sweating and shaking with nightmares of her being eaten alive.

Her birthday deserved to be celebrated.

He sighed, pushing his breakfast away. So much for surpassing Kakarot today. “Read me the goddamn ingredients.”

Vegeta and Trunks (who stood on a step-stool next to him) stared at the horrible mush in the bowl they had been laboring over. Somewhere they had gone horribly awry but Vegeta wasn’t ready to take the blame on this one.

Unfortunately, Trunks had inherited his parents’ bluntness. “I think you did it wrong.”

Vegeta’s jaw clenched, shooting the boy a withering side-eye, but he had to agree. The crushed flower petals drifting sadly in the oily-yolky water looked nothing like Earth food he was familiar with. Two and a half cups of ‘flower’; Vegeta had been skeptical, but Trunks confirmed that’s what the recipe called for. So out they went to the garden and picked some of Bulma’s favorite roses to make the cake. 

Trunks continued to stir the ingredients, but his shoulders were slumped in sad defeat. The poor kid. He had only wanted to surprise his mother for her birthday. It wasn’t his fault he was lumped with a father whose nearest home-making ability was how to cook one’s goose. Vegeta made a mental note to learn a few more domestic skills from here on out. 

The red circled 18th loomed over them from the fridge door. Like hell he was giving up this easily. “We’ll adapt.”

Trunks looked up at him, brow creasing in confusion. “Adapt?”

“Yes. We’re Saiyan Elite. You think one cake can beat us? Besides, we know your mother better than a magazine, don’t we?”

Trunks’s eyes light up at his father’s words, a smile forming on his face. “Of course we do!”

“Exactly. So, what’s the most important ingredient?”

“Strawberries.”

Vegeta nodded. He rested his hand on Trunks’ soft head and leaned in, his eyes shining with the light of a predator sighting its prey. “Then bring me every strawberry-flavored thing in this house.”

The glint in Trunks’ gaze reflected Vegeta’s. “Yes, Sir!”

“Mom?”

Bulma blinked open her eyes, grey pre-dawn light filtering in through the window. The soft glow haloed the lilac hair of her boy who stood next to her bed. Bulma smiled and half sat up, blinking open sleepy-eyes.

“Trunks, honey? What is it?”

Her son hefted something up, offering a bowl to her proudly. “Happy Birthday!”

“Oh, Trunks, it’s… lovely,” Bulma struggled to think of a complimentary adjective as she took the dish from her son.

What was it? If she didn’t know better, it looked like something had been murdered, scooped into a dish, and gelatined. Then decorated with one unlit candle, stabbed haphazardly in the middle. The whole thing smelt cloyingly sweet, reeking of artificial strawberries like some teenage girl’s body wash.

“Papa and I made it for you,” Trunks announced as he climbed onto the bed, sitting on her legs and watching her with anticipation. 

Bulma put a hand over her mouth to stifle a laugh. “Your father helped you?”

“Yep! It was supposed to be a cake but we adapted the recipe. We’re Saiyan elite, you know. Mom, you like pudding, don’t you?”

Bulma stared at the cooking disaster, wishing she could have seen her husband and son in the kitchen together. Something remarkably like a soggy flower-petal peeked out from the reddish-brown sludge. “Oh, of course. What uh… How did you adapt the recipe exactly?”

Trunks looked up as he tried to remember. “Okay, so, there are strawberries, and strawberry jell-o, and strawberry syrup, and um—” 

Okay, so far it didn’t sound too bad.

“And strawberry mints, and strawberry jam, and strawberry yogurt, and coffee, and—”

“Coffee?”

“You like coffee too, right?”

“Right. Of course.”

Trunks beamed and continued to list off more strawberry products while Bulma lifted the spoon to get a better look at her ‘pudding’. It dribbled back into the bowl the way blood-colored snot might.

Kami, save her.

“Okay, Trunks, I uh, think I get the picture,” she put an end to him listing off all the ingredients. Maybe it was best she didn’t know what it was made of.

Trunk watched her playing with it. “Aren’t you going to try some?”

Bulma hoped her dismay didn’t show through her smile. Trunks had clearly worked hard to make it for her. It was the least she could do to sample some. Perhaps this was divine punishment for not having given either her son or husband cooking lessons. She picked up the spoon and wondered if the dragon balls could wish her back from food poisoning.

“Oi. The candle,” Vegeta barked from the doorway.

Oh thank fuck, she was saved.

Trunks turned around. “Oh right! Can’t you light it?”

“You want me to break your mother’s rule on her birthday?” 

No ki in the house. Less things got broken that way. 

“But—”

“No buts. Get the lighter from the kitchen.”

Trunks hurried off the bed to comply. “Okay, okay. Mom, don’t eat any until I get back. I wanna watch your reaction!”

Oh boy, he really didn’t have to worry about that.

Her husband waited until Trunks was out of earshot before he approached her on the bed. From behind his back he pulled out another bowl, this one filled with a much more pleasing pink pudding. “We owe your mother one,” he explained, not quite meeting her eyes. Aw, he was embarrassed! Bulma’s heart tightened. Vegeta wasn’t big on sentimentality, or cooking, or asking for help, and especially on admitting when he had messed-up, yet he had done all the above for her. To think that angry little space man from years ago would become her husband, that he would die to save the same planet he had once tried to destroy, and was now offering her strawberry pudding in bed. Life really was amazing.

Vegeta put the candle into Panchy’s strawberry pudding and shoved the horrific one under the bed before their son returned. 

Bulma wrapped her arms around his strong neck. “My hero,” she whispered warmly into his ear.

He hesitated, still getting used to this affection business, but soon enough put his arms on her lower back in a hug.

“Ewwww, gross.” Trunks announced obnoxiously loud from the doorway, shielding his eyes behind his hand. “I’m right here you two.”

“I could end that problem real quick, boy,” Vegeta growled.

Trunks gulped and approached the bed, offering the lighter to his father. Vegeta took it and lit the candle as Trunks settled on the other side of his mother. “Make a wish, Mom.”

Bulma looked between her son and her husband, their handsome faces glowing in the light of the candle, waiting on her expectantly. Her precious boys. A warm pain squeezed her chest, her heart filled to the brim with a happiness she didn’t know was possible. She let out a little laugh, trying to expel some of the feeling before she began to cry.

“I can’t think of anything to wish for. I already have everything I could ever want.”

“Oh… Can I have your wish then?” Trunks asked.

Vegeta promptly slapped him upside the head.

“Ow!”

Bulma laughed, grabbing both of them and kissing each one on the cheek. “I love you both so much. Thank you.”

“Ew, Mom, GROSS!”

Vegeta blushed, but his arm wrapped tight about her back, holding her close.

“Happy birthday, Bulma.”

Cutie Reviews: Tokyo Treat May 18

Ahhhh, I took a bit longer than I would have liked to. But with good reason.

Sorta.

Basically, I spent the past few days going through all of the old crates to sort the items and dispose of the boxes/crates. They take up a lot of space when you order so many, and I bought some cute little boxes to sort the items by type and take them to my room.

I still have some to go through, but I made a lot of progress. I think I threw away about 20 boxes. But I did keep a handful of them either because I had use for them, or someone I know did. It’s actually been kind of fun going through them :3 and oddly therapeutic.

Anyway, let’s get on with it! If you like anime, manga, and video games, this box is perfect for you!

Theme: ANIME SNACK ATTACK

So, as you can see, we’re having an anime (and manga and video game) theme. Three things I adore!

LUCKY TREAT

The Lucky Treat is full of anime inspired items, and Pokemon! One of the most popular merchandising brands you find in these boxes lately. Like literally, nearly each box I've gotten recently seems to have some form of Pokemon item in it (not counting the makeups. But I know they have pokemon beauty products.)

MINUTE MAID CRAFTZ CHERRY & PEACH

I'm putting this here because the image of this is the very first one in the post. You can see it on the right-hand side there. Anyway, this is a drink by Minute Maid, a very popular juice brand that I like x3 It combines the sweet, flowery tastes of cherry and peach- I think this would perfect for spring time!

If you like Peach then you'd like this drink, basically. The Peach is overwhelmingly strong, and there is a faint cherry-ness to it, but it mostly blends into the peach. It was refreshing~

Sriracha Rice Chips & Don Taro Udon Snack

First up we got some delicious looking Sriracha chips made from brown rice and soy beans. As you can see on the bag in the pic. These are gluten free and flavored with a spicy kick! Perfect for those intense scenes; or when you start feeling yourself getting tired and need a wake-me-up.

Although, there was one little problem with mine...

Seeing this nice, big clean slice in the bag had me worried a teensy-bit. It came like that out of the box and it wasn't tampered with as far as I know- so I can only assume it was a last-second manufacturing thing that went unnoticed. It happens.They seemed fine, so I just put them in another bag.

Besides a tiny bit of staleness they tasted really good x3 They had a "deep crunch" to them, being sorta soft (which was either staleness or due to being made out of bean and rice) but still crispy. Oddly they reminded me of chicken-flavored ramen.

They are spicy, but it has to build up. It sort of lingers on the tongue for a few minutes but otherwise you won't notice it just eating a couple. It wasn’t really hot though for being made with sriracha. But I really like eating it so maybe I just didn’t notice?

Our next item in the pic is a snacking noodle dagashi, flavored after a real udon bowl.

Honestly they tasted a lot like those chips did. Minus the rice-bean texture. They're not bad or anything, but I'm not super-obsessed with snacking noodles; or noodles as a whole. I have to be in the mood for them. But they didn't taste bad, as I said, and if you really like crunchy snacks (or ramen) you would probably like these.

MENTAIKO UMAIBO & SENZU BEAN EDAMAME

Oh, our usual Umaibo and share pack snacks! How I love and sometimes detest you~

Our Umaibo is one I've had, maybe two other times by now. Mentaiko is "salted, creamy pollock roe", or fish eggs if you're not familiar with the term.

Not being a fish person, I've never tried fish eggs before. They haven't appealed to me. So I can't say if this tastes accurately or not- to me it reminds me of their cheese-flavored ones. I’m not a big fan of this, but it’s not bad either. It's not as strange to me as it originally was the first time I tried it.

Now, I've already given my opinions of these "share packs" so I won't waste time doing it again. For this month we get packs of this edamame themed snack with a light flavoring on them. First of all, each bag is 64 calories, making this a nice snack for those who worry over their weight or just want something a little healthier.

Apparently chosen to represent the "Senzou Bean" from Dragonball. Each bag also has a cute design, made to look like a mesh bag or pouch filled with edamame!

If they reminded me of anything on smell alone, I'd say "cheez-its and some green vegetable". Their taste and texture is about the same too, but I do get an edamame vibe. I think its adorable how they look like them too x3 and they have a light saltiness to them that is pleasant.

Besides the snacking noodles, I’d say these were the top in crunchiness.

DRAGON BALL CHEESE PUFFS

You read that right: Dragonball Cheese Puffs. These are 91.9 calories for the bag, and include a fun card as part of a game series. I know they've made these, but I'm used to seeing the gummy ones; but because I only buy those types, it was neat to try another kind.

So... as you can see, I got Vegeta! He's my favorite x3 I can't ever use the card for its intended purpose- but I'm happy regardless.

They're basically like any other cheese puff-based snack. However, the flavoring was actually very light on the cheese and tasted more like the corn its made out of. But it didn't taste bad, and the crispy texture is nice. These are good as long as you're not expecting a huge, cheesy flavor.

ALMOND TOFU CHOCOBI & CHOCOPIE

I think I'll swap things around and start with the Chocobi; it hasn't been in the box for a while. This time, rather than a fruit it's flavored after a specific dish: Almond Tofu, a smooth and healthy Japanese dessert. I've never tried it before but I assume it's like yogurt or pudding with a jelly texture.

The box is 139.4 calories, and was made in celebration of yet-another Crayon Shin-chan movie. This one features stickers from different regions in Japan, the one I got says Aichi. But to be honest, the only one of these I recognized was Hokkaido. I kinda wish I got that one~

As usual Chocobi as a texture is pretty nice. It's crispy, and they come in such a cute shape!

However... as usual, they also go stale VERY quickly.... So I've never been a fan of them.

Now these, the flavor isn't as odd as past ones I received. It's kind of like sweet, very light coconut, maybe a tiny bit almond x vanilla-ish. I really like almonds and tofu, but I didn't come to this snack knowing what to expect so I can’t say I’m being picky.

Our other item here I was a lot more excited for, meanwhile. The Petite Chocopie by LOTTE! It's basically chocolate covered cake and marshmallow cream- but since when has that ever been a bad thing??

Per each cake/pie its 74 calories, which isn't that bad if you want something sweet. According to the back they also have a type that features a chocolate drizzle rather than coating, and has chocolate and marshmallow cream inside~

Right off, if you don't like dark chocolate then you probably won't like these. I don't think they're made with it, but they certainly tasted like it. My mom thought so too, and she hates dark chocolate- which is a shame because I really like it. But at least I know it'll be safe from her ;3

These were pretty good, but I did have one complaint. As you can see in the picture I took they don't really sync up with the photo on the package. Which is common, I know, but what the actual item lacks in thickness it also lacks in taste unfortunately. With the rich chocolate and cake/cookies under it, the marshmallow cream is too thin- you barely taste it, if at all.

SHIN-CHAN GUMMY, SPLATOON GUMMIES, AND THOMAS THE TRAIN CHEWY CANDY

This single piece of Shin-chan Gummy is available in soda/ramune, and cola flavors. As much as I enjoy soda/ramune, I really, REALLY wish I got cola. Or maybe one of each. The image in the booklet is a tiny bit misleading because you only get 1.

I kinda had to leave it in the package because by the time I got to it (a week ago, just about) it had like... melted into the plastic. At least I assume. I tried to remove it and it was not coming. I took the picture, then I mangled it to get as much as I could out.

I LOVED how this tasted. Exactly like the soda/ramune flavor I like. However, I couldn't necessarily judge the quality of the gummy due to unforeseen issues. As noted above...

The next item I got was another one I was excited for cus who doesn't love Splatoon, am I right?

I only have the first game for now, but I'll be getting the Switch VERY SOON, so I'm excited to get the second on x3 I also have a cute pink water-filled squid I got from the toy store like a year or so ago.

Anyway, these gummies are available in Orange and Melon. There's also a very rare gummy shaped like an octopus that can be found in certain bags. Mine wasn't one of them. One bag is 155 calories, which is kind of lame due to how small it is. BUT at the same time, I've seen worse.

Not only are the gummies really cute, but they taste very good too. I was also happy to see that the bag is zip-lock style and they lasted for 4 months with no sign of aging!

I was so excited when I got them back in May that I couldn't resist trying them then (=´3`=)

The gummy texture... I can’t really describe. It's chewy, but not hard, and they don't take five minutes to eat either. More like a few seconds.

Our last item in this picture is the Thomas the Tank Engine Chewy Candy!

The inner-child in me was really excited to see this. Not only because the candy itself sounded good, but I grew up on the Thomas the Tank Engine stop-motion cartoons x3 Ironically, now that I'm older he seems a lot more popular. That or I just never noticed it before. There's also another sense of irony here though. Back in August, I was re-watching the super old original stop-motions I grew up on; not for any real reason, I was just bored and like the background noise.

Okay, so anyway the candy is a grape chewy candy by Lotte. It looks a lot like gum but it's kind of thicker, and what's fun is that each piece has a little puzzle on it, or you can fold the wrapper in certain ways to make shapes or "toys". Each stick, or the whole pack is 85 calories. I can't actually tell.

It pretty much tastes exactly like grape hi-chew, the only difference is the texture. So if you like Hi-chew or grape candy you'd like this. If you don't then... you probably won't.

BORUTO GUMMY & BORUTO PINEAPPLE JELLIES

Our last items of the box are these two "Boruto" snacks! Boruto, if you never heard of the series is essentially a sequel to "Naruto". A series I was very fond of. However, I don't like Boruto. It's not because of the characters or anything, but because of some "decisions" they made I just didn't agree with. Besides the cute packaging and decorative detail on the bag, the jellies each feature a decorative lid design based on various Boruto characters. Each Jelly is 19 calories, and are pineapple flavored, with real pineapple juice!

This box was essentially full of nostalgia for me x3 when I was younger I loved eating little jellies. They became pretty scarce as I got older though, and one day they kind of just stopped showing up. It's a bit disappointing.

They taste really good, it's not an overwhelming Pineapple flavor. I love the slippery, soft, squishy texture~

Our final item is this Boruto energy-drink flavored Hand Gummy :3 Hand Gummies are popular and fun, being based on the game Rock-Paper-Scissors. I've gotten one or two other gummies like this before, but if I recall they were much smaller- but I got scissors both times, including this one!

That's usually my go-to gesture and always has been ;D But you can also look at is as "peace sign" too if you wanted. Anyway, these are energy-drink flavored, but the booklet assures us that no energy drink ingredients were actually used in making this. It's simply BASED on a fizzy, sweet-and-sour pineapple energy drink.

That rested any concerns I had, because I'm one of those who people who avoids energy drinks at all cost. If I want energy I'll just eat sugar.

Quality - 4 out of 5. The only real reason why I marked it down was because of that slice in the rice chips bag. I'm sure this was an extremely rare thing though, I usually don't have any problems with any of the items I get in this box.  

Content - 3 out of 5. I didn't hate anything at all this time around- which is almost as rare as the above mention. Usually I find one item I detest, and I pretty much only disliked one item, and even then it wasn't that bad...

Theme - 5 out of 5. Besides a couple of items, it was pretty much covered in anime stuff!

Total Rank: 12 out of 15 Cuties. I genuinely LOVED this box in comparison to the April box. It had a couple of faults but nothing serious that I couldn't overlook. Considering how excited I was for this, I feel like they could have done better- but they did really good! Maybe like a... B+

♥ Cutie’s Scale of Yummy ♥

1. Cherry x Peach Drink - It was so refreshing~

2. Splatoon Gummies - I can't say I prefer orange or melon flavors in comparison to ramune, grape, or cola- but they tasted so good and looked adorable!

3. Thomas Grape Chewy Candy - Loved. Loved. Loved!

4. Hand Gummy - I liked this just a little bit better than the jelly. It's very soft and chewy, I'd recommend these if you can find them, they come in many flavors.

5. Pineapple Jellies - I loved their soft, wiggly-jiggly texture~

6. Chocopie -  I loved the soft, cakey texture and its dark chocolate-esque taste~

7. Rice Chips - Delicious!

8. Shin-chan Gummy - I was disappointed with this because it was delicious! I just wish it hadn't stuck to its packaging. Well, that and I wish we got maybe one or two more~

9. Edamame snack - They tasted good but I just liked other stuff better.

10. Dragonball Cheese Puffs - I liked how they tasted, but I felt like it might have been a tiny bit misleading cause it didn't taste like cheese to me. I don't know if its because the information in the booklet was wrong, or... I’m very happy with the card I got though!

11. Mentaiko Umaibo - It tastes better than when I first tried it. But I can't say it's in my top 5 Umaibo list...

12. Udon Snacking Noodles - As I mentioned, these I have to be in the mood for. They don't taste bad but it's not something I'd probably reach for.

13. Almond Tofu snack - I really am not just a fan of Chocobi...

Alrighty, here we are at the end of another review. I'm sorry if it seemed like the quality started lowering so far down. I'm feeling kinda tired and my head hurts suddenly, and after trying to write these twice I really didn't want to have to try again you know?
