Do you really want a Pokemon MMO?
For years, people have wished for there to be a "Pokemon MMORPG." I feel like ever since WoW came out, the idea of the "MMO" became this magical final frontier for all game franchises for some reason, despite the fact that only a small sliver of MMOs end up being well-received or well-designed.
For all the people over the years that have begged for a Pokemon MMO, I'd want to sit them down and be like "Do you really want that? Have you pictured how that would really work in the longterm?" Look closely at how MMOs work. The way they have to make content feel endless...it's messy.
We already live in a world where games like Pokemon Go, Scarlet/Violet, and Legends Arceus have dabbled with features that we're familiar with from MMOs. Would Pokemon actually work by going the extra mile in a structure like WoW or FFXIV?
Assuming you play as a Trainer, imagine how much catching you'd be doing. You could conceivably catch a hundred Pokemon per day, for weeks, months, years? Each Pokemon would lose all individual significance. You'd either be dumping them off somewhere or they'd be giving you "Candies" like in Pokemon Go for incremental upgrades.
Gone would be the fun of party builds and your own strategy, you'd be doing set meta Rotations for your attacks to maximize your DPS so your teammates don't get mad at you.
Would you still feel any significance as a player when in a guild with like 20 other people who have all the same Pokemon as you, but better? Or you play as a Pokemon and you're like one of fifty Charizards in your guild.
Unlike Pokemon Go, they'd have to come up with a bunch of subsystems to justify the grind of staying in the game world for hours on end, too. Go had the advantage of not really having to construct a fictional world.
Not to mention I feel like almost every successful MMO has an endless grind for better loot drops (what exactly are the Pokemon equipping?) and a fleshed out economy with a market board (what exactly are we buying and selling again?)
Properties inspired by Dungeons & Dragons have a leg-up when it comes to making MMOs, because Dungeons & Dragons is already designed in such a way that it allows for that amount of broad "content" and stuff. A game like Pokemon...maybe not so much.
Even a game like TemTem, which I personally enjoyed my time with, I feel like struggled to create a cohesive package of how the "Pokemon main story quest" part and "online MMO features part" worked together.

I Think I Don't Like Gaming Anymore
25 years. It's been approximately 25 years since I've started playing video games as a hobby. The games that left a memorable impression on me as a child or teenager were games like Red Alert 1, Doom, Starcraft, GTA: Vice City & San Andreas, Warcraft 3, Runescape, Little Fighter 2, Worms, Dragon Age, Mass Effect Trilogy, Assassin's Creed 1 and 2, Shattered Galaxy, Rakion, and probably a lot more that isn't surfacing to the top of my head right now.
I spent so much time playing these games. I didn't even play some of these games "properly" - I don't think I ever completed GTA: Vice City. All I ever did was muck around, blowing things up, and causing chaos. But somehow, I could spend hours doing it.
In Rakion (a PvP game), I spent hundreds of hours playing from level 1 to 10. I did that because players were matchmaked into three different level brackets. 1 to 10, 11 to 30, and 31+. Rakion was a free to play game with a cash shop, and pay to win reared its ugly head beyond level 10. So what I did was to always delete my character once it hit level 11, and just repeated everything within level 1 to 10. I had fun.
These days? I get bored and tired after an hour or two.
I started playing The Last of Us Part 1 a few days ago, and I'm already using a trainer to make things easier (i.e. cheat). I can't die, I have infinite ammo, and everything dies in one shot. But why, why am I doing such a thing?
Well, I've started to notice a particular set of feelings that arise within me whenever I play a video game nowadays. These feelings can be things like:
This is a chore
What a pain in the ass
This was only fun in the first hour of the game
This was only fun the first time I did it
What a waste of time
I just want to rush through it so that I can experience the story and complete the game
Crafting, gathering, ammo management, stealth, underwater areas, dark areas, it's all a chore to me nowadays.
Maybe an argument can be made that such mechanics aren't particularly fun to begin with, so my feelings might be understandable.
But what if these feelings extend to core gameplay mechanics?
Shooters - Shooting enemies from behind cover. Running from point A to point B. Getting headshots.
RTS - Collecting resources to build your base. Training up an army. Exploring the map.
MMOs - Travelling great distances. Earning gold. Doing dungeons and raids repeatedly to farm gear and rewards. Dealing with people. Doing dailies.
Core gameplay mechanics might not be a "chore", but they tend to drift towards "this is only fun in the first hour of the game".
I do have some guesses as to why I'm getting these feelings.
There's been no new core gameplay within video games for the past 5 years that have been really solid. I've tried Rollerdrome but it got old after a while. I haven't tried Hi-Fi Rush.
There's really nothing new, man. Every single game is just made up of the same few mechanics, wrapped up in a different skin. Fantasy, sci-fi, anime style. No matter how epic, cool, or amazing it looks, deep down it's just the same old thing all over again.
Games tend to do a very poor job to keep things fresh throughout the whole game. Once you've played a few hours of it, then you've experienced all the game has to offer gameplay wise.
I've been a story motivated gamer for quite a long time, and it's possible that what I've been seeking out are good stories and good experiences. Video games were just the vessel I used to obtain these.
It's also possible that all I wanted was a sense of progression, and the methods weren't important. This is probably why I enjoy mobile gacha games with auto-play functionality nowadays. You get to progress, but you don't need to actively grind. It basically removes the problems of it being a chore, a pain in the ass, and a waste of time. Yet it allows me to progress and experience the story (Honkai: Star Rail is so far, the best game in 2023 for me).
The video game industry, especially in the AAA space, is producing a lot of junk lately. I mean, check out this wall of shame: https://www.reddit.com/r/pcmasterrace/comments/13sjzft/we_would_like_to_apologize_please/
And even if the game isn't junk, it's filled with season passes and pay to win junk, still has to be bought before playing, and has none of the upsides of gacha games I mentioned above.
Everything is liked nowadays. My previous blog post: https://bloodelves88.tumblr.com/post/702607969068662784/everything-is-liked-nowadays
I'm just losing patience, growing old, getting tired, etc.?
I do still enjoy some new games though, but I'm not sure why. They don't seem to be that different, but I still enjoyed them from start to end. The Yakuza series, Horizon Zero Dawn and Forbidden West, The Final Fantasy VII Remake, and Final Fantasy XIV are examples of new games I enjoyed.
All in all, I'm still not sure what to make of these feelings I have. I think I want to set video games aside and play less of it, but it's not easy to just do that for a 25 year old hobby. I doubt I'll ever drop video games from my life completely, but to stop keeping up with video game news, to stop exploring and trying out most of the new games that come out every year - it's going to be a strange feeling. Old habits die hard.

Saw you've been sucked into the MMO life in the form of FFXIV and I was wondering if you had any input into the debate I've been having about what class archetypes tfw would play. I think Sam would be most likely to tank because it requires a reasonable amount of leadership and is also more of a quiet, backbone type role compared to dps. Dean seems more the type to be singularly focused on the big damage hits tbh. He also tends to take more of the charging in and fighting role in their normal life with Sam being the one reading up on everything more carefully and being his backup. Which leaves Cas as healer which may just be me projecting because I play healer/support at every opportunity but literal angel healing aside I think that sorta fits too, he cares a lot for them and tries to keep them safe and shield them as best he can in their adventures? Idk half formed thoughts please completely contradict me if you want I'm genuinely curious about other people's opinions here
Heyooo :D It is less sucked into and more like I’ve returned to the warm cushiony nest of MMOs lol
If you’d asked me back when I was a WoW player I’d have fully agreed because you could only have one class per character and these are definitely the snap decisions that the fam would make when on the character screen. Dean would grab the sexiest DPS, Sam the stoutest tank especially as he’s the one who has read into the classes and strats beforehand, and Cas would ask what to do and be given the healer role because the other two in this scenario would know better about the game and sort of lump it onto him like, oh, we need a healer and you can do this.
(In my own gaming journey, this is what my friends and brother did to me, as they needed a healer to round out their party... I took druid because it was spoopy, and discovered in WoW that while you can’t change classes you can pay gold to respec your character’s role within that class... Promptly re-specced to a melee dps/tank feral druid instead of the healer one, and had a lot more fun :D)
In FFXIV you can take all the classes on your character (which I have done, natch) and it’s a much more interesting levelling approach, especially seeing how my friends playing the game have gone when it comes to taking classes as they level and why they claim to have tried and then rejected others. It’s an enormous personality test, even for peeps like me and my brother who have all the classes up at max level, which ones we prioritised and which ones we sort of struggled with or found a bit meh.
Hm so in the scenario that Charlie comes bursting into the Bunker demanding that she needs some friends for dungeons and raids and they’re all sitting on their asses scrolling the internet between a case, they can bloody well play final fantasy with her for a bit, let’s go for some headcanons :D Long because FFXIV has become my current obsession and I have the same in-depth feels about it as I do about SPN but I just never get to write about them with anyone...
First off, Sam of course has deep nerdery about it and will ask Charlie a ton of questions about what the right class to play is and do the same thing as we’ve already discussed and go for Paladin (which starts as gladiator), and also take all the crafting and gathering side classes because he’s a nerd and you learn nonsense lore while doing it. He’s also in the same starting zone as Thaumaturge which transitions to Black Mage and I BET he’d be tempted to have a little safe witch!Sam emotional release on the most un-Sam class. It’s the big unwieldy spell caster whose literal class quests and stuff make fun of how you’re small and squishy and will be standing in a very bad spot debating whether to finish a long-cast spell and get hit or stop DPS and run for safety. I think he could do with the perspective and learning to be selfish either way to blow off steam from tanking and also learn to prioritise himself IRL :’D Also the paladin quest is WEIRDLY pro-cop from 30 onwards for some reason until the writers saw sense and just. stopped. doing paladin stuff and went back to the Gladiator storyline for the class quests, so idk if he’d enjoy that or start to question other things. Whatever it is he’s getting challenged XD
At 60 he grabs Gunbreaker because it sounds more cool and is thankfully way less emotionally stressful tanking as it’s entirely about being a badass bodyguard and sick flips. This is far more aspirational for Sam, especially as he could just tie a knife to a sawn off shotgun and do these moves for real in his day job. He won’t, but like with black mage, the thought that he COULD is very emotionally satisfying to him.
He might also have decided to check out scholar to see how healing is but idk if he would be able to handle Dean teasing him for having a fairy follow him around so he’d only dabble with the nerd class on the side :P
Now, Dean can’t take ninja until level 10 or machinist (gun shooty DPS class) until 50, so his start point as DPS would either be pugilist (eeeey brass knuckle class!) or the other DPS classes to start with are Thaumaturge/Black Mage, Arcanist/Summoner, Archer or Lancer. Now. He’d probably think the first two are sissy because magic is for girls/arcanists literally only have a book as a weapon. Archer becomes bard and I think is ultimately a place he’d be very happy as it is a very supportive class to the whole party and basically the mom friend class. But I would love if he went lancer/dragoon because the level 50 class weapon is (folklore inspired name) “Gae Bolg” and every time I equip it I can’t help giggling at the name even though I know it’s a real thing and I shouldn’t. But. Like. It’s the class about waving enormous lances around. It’s got Implications, and Dean is drawn to those.
He’d probably, however, take rogue/ninja as soon as he could because stabbing things with knives, and the class trainer is the kinda guy who’d have wild gay tension with him while they both try to boast about women to each other, were they to meet irl. Ironically, the rogue trainer (a womanising charmer) and the ninja trainer (an intense, honourable guy bad at social cues even among his own people who ends up falling from grace and choosing to stay in the vicinity of said rogue trainer) are an interesting pair of NPCs to teach Dean about where to stick knives. :)
He’d go back and power-level dragoon once he starts Heavensward though, because Aymeric is also super intense with messy dark hair and big blue eyes that see right through you. :D He’s getting that gae bolg for him, you know?
If they’re going to bully Cas to be their healer, he’d probably get really dedicated to the discipline especially as he can stay up all night to play and doesn’t need to take breaks to pee so he’d probably level conjurer/white mage (nature healing) and scholar (ancient book lore with a class quest which mixes ancient curses on a whole people, family drama and a bit of interspeciesish love) and then also pick up astrologian, which is good because it’s spooky star and making your own fate magic. The storyline for that is garbage in the sense that it’s really weakly written, but my favourite character randomly picks up AST in the latest expansion, and has an absolutely fucking wild subtextual romance with another character, including SPN level adopting of a random child who matches Jack in many respects, with said character. And in many respects emotionally they’re Cas and Dean but without any of the personal baggage between them specifically so they really are just chill and married, whatever else they’re stressed about (I say, dreading the next patch is going to finally bring up some questions about what is going on with them as it’s getting weirdly conspicuous while still utterly unsaid). So I would hope if Cas started projecting onto an astrologian character it would be him :P
Cas also would get into summoner as the other branch of scholar because honestly those two classes are about as close to the random sigil drawing and reading things from books etc analogy to his own occult magic, except you can summon cool dragons and elementals to fight for you.
they’d buy Jack a boost to 60 and he’d pick up dark knight and white mage probably just to subtly fuck with Dean
(I am still not over Dean trying to test him to see if he was evil or not by whether he chose devil or angel cake)
#Asks#ffxiv#pfft#I'm sorry#I'm like#in the rabbit hole#I'm so in deep in the rabbit hole I've memorised all the lore#I did every quest#I am as forensic about it as I am about SPN but it's all just in my head!!#AAAH why is the fandom for this game small and uninterested in talking about subtext!#[edit to add: if you know where the fandom I'm seeking is and it's on reddit#I'm not going there and you can't pay me to for all the thancred headcanons in eorzea]

9, 18 and 34 for the GW2 asks! (:
Hi there! Thank you so much for the asks! Sorry I've take my time, I'm not as active here lately and also I kinda forget because my brain goes splooch sometimes lol
9. Whats your favourite city?
That would be the Black Citadel or Rata Sum, they are both amazingin their own ways. Love the steampunk-ish dark dirty city of the charr and the floating full of artificial gardens and lights and crystals everywhere. I can't decide on any of both, because they bring me so many memories playing this game <3
18. Do you have a favourite character from the lore?
(Tybalt Leftpaw my beloved)
Well, since I'm a player of the original Guild Wars, starting with Factions, I always loved the characters I've met in Cantha. My memory is pretty bullshit, but I have always remembered fondly Master Togo, from the Shing Jea Monastery. Also the dragon Kuunavang, when you have to go and save her from the corruption.
I also remember I always liked the tengu, the warrior trainer, Talon Silverwing
34. Weirdest map chat experience?
Oh god, I was about to tell about a WvW spanish player that kept trolling and calling covid a lie but that was just a troll, report and block
The good one was...
I was in Lion's Arch, back when I was playing alone without a guild. I was just running around doing nothing when I saw on the chat two guys roleplaying in spanish. Keep in mind that, up until then, I had NEVER thought about the idea of RPing in a MMO, it just hadn't crossed my mind
They were roleplaying how one of the chracters was leading the other, with a leash, to bring her into a house, calling her a pet, tying her to a bed and stuff, and I was thinking about "Ok, they are gonna do thenaughties, I should leave INMEDIATELY for my own sanity"
I went there, screamed a couple meme things and run away
The thing is, they actually gave me the idea to search for a RP guild and I found one... the one where they both were. Not only that, but the one leading the leash became the leade of the guild and also my best friend XD
When I was talking this story about those weirdos, he jumped to scream "BICTH THAT WAS ME!!". We were laughing for hours after that

A Rant on Elves and Magic Addiction
So advancements in medical science is set at the same pace on Azeroth as it is on Earth or the collective population of its magical communities either forgot or still doesn’t know how to treat magic addiction because the Legion Tailoring questline (at least up until you have to go to Suramar, that’s where I stopped for the night) shouldn’t have ended the way it did.
Like, I’m doing this on a warlock alt who happens to be a blood elf. I RP him as a guy who turns to practicing destructive magic to fight against demons and was there - front and center - when the Black Temple was raided, and then at the Sunwell Plateau proper in TBC. You bet he saw friends and families and strangers turn to Withered during his time at Falthrien Academy. He doesn’t tap into the Sunwell anymore, not since it was cleansed (and Light and Fel don’t jive well together, the headaches are a bitch and a half, meaning in the time between TBC and Legion and up to Shadowlands he’s found other recourses of magic to slake his innate thirst because (a) demons aren’t going to stop being a nuisance the moment Argus the Unmaker bites the dust, (b) sin’dorei society has been moving toward a marriage of Light and Arcane from the Sunwell plus the amicable relations with the shal’dorei, and (c) said transition has most likely outlawed practicing demonology, necromancy, and Shadow magic the sin’dorei used to dabble in at least since post-TBC. So my lock knows what withdrawal is like.
Every blood elf - and high elf - should know what it’s like.
Maybe this is my fault for having the benefit of future events, since the Legion Tailoring questline takes place prior to the Suramar Insurrection Arc and Nighthold raid (so that means no arcan’dor to cure the nightborne of their affliction and no Liadrin and Rommath hitting it off with Thalyssra by the time you enter the zone proper), but I just couldn’t help but think how baffling the scenario played out. Like, the tailoring shop is right next door to the first aid station. Why did no one think to send Lyndras there and administer some sort of medicine to offset the hunger pangs until Shal’Aran was established at the earliest and arcwine could be smuggled in?
I’m not going to mention the PC, because you’re the narrative vehicle in an MMO and, not to discount one’s RP - by game lore you’re either part of a special strike corp - if you go by Tides of War - or a hired mercenary that just happens to be getting paid by Alliance or Horde. But you’re in a magic city, and a good chunk of that city consists of elves that have gone through withdrawal after the Sunwell’s implosion. I get resources and people are stretched thin and being funneled toward the war effort but WHY was this poor guy just left UNATTENDED after the second time he runs off for a fix? Instead of throwing him into the Violet Hold where he clearly withers and you have to put him down.
However, given all of the above, Lyndras probably wouldn’t have fared much better than Runas. With some help the former would’ve been given more time to live, depending on how long the timeframe between Shal’Aran’s expansion and the start of the arcwine smuggling operations is, whereas the latter withers despite draining what little mana there is to be had from blue dragon whelplings and grinding mana crystals sticking out of Zarkhenar. Pre-arcan’dor nightborne require the sustenance of the Nightwell, being from arcane energy or arcwine, to offset withering, and while we don’t know how long Lyndras and Runas were away from Suramar City their chances of survival were low when we’re first introduced to them.
This questline is probably a case of Blizzard not looking too deeply into the story and writing it “as-is”, since, again, this is set pre-Suramar and, in all fairness, you don’t quite know why these withered, ill-looking elves are turning into mindless shamblers. One should not be blamed for thinking ‘they’re regressing the same way the blood elves were’, because until the Suramar Insurrection Arc you aren’t made aware of the fact that withering is a result of the lack of Nightwell tapping and the Wretched state of blood elves a result of abusing magic (scarcity versus overabundance). Still, you’d think blood elves, like my warlock, would take note of Lyndras’s condition and bring it up to the Kirin Tor. Maybe, oh I don’t know, keep an eye on the guy and not lock him inside a prison where the rest of the otherworldly monsters and dangerous criminals are at!
(This got way too long for a rant, but I was gutted by the foresight of Lyndras’s obvious outcome and had the bitter taste of it in my mouth. Only one tailoring trainer is upset by this, but I’ll give Blizzard the benefit of the doubt because she’s the one you interact with the most as you’re learning patterns.
There’s also the matter of bringing up magic addiction and how that still hasn’t been cured regardless of the possibility, one that’s mentioned in the blood elf intro in Cataclysm, the cleansed Sunwell might free them of their dependency. But that isn’t about that here, and I’m saving it for another post, anyway, because BOY do I go hard on that one.)
I’m just going to make the ‘medical science moves at the same rate as advancements as Earth’s’ my own personal headcanon. It’ll help me sleep and think a little better and a lot less infuriatingly on the brain.)

List-O-Muses
So, I have a lot, a few I cannot remember, a few I’ve never put on Tumblr... So I shall put up a list of them all... by category! Only certain muses will get an explanation and not all have blogs, the ones I remember that do will have them!
Also some blogs might have autoplay, I will label the ones I remember. Some of these blogs have not been touched in years, I apologize
Muse I’ve Had since Before Tumblr
Lexara (OC)- Originally a special agent of some kind, I made her around about 2005, when I first started to read Manga and started drawing characters. She had short hair- Like me at the time, and she was tough and rugged... because my protected catholic ass hadn’t learned the word ass or any swear word ever.
Muses I’ve had on Tumblr
Category 1- KH and FF
Leon/Squall (Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy VIII)- This blog still exists for the nostalgia. I don’t rp on it, but this was my gateway to RP in 2011 on this sight. I made it to be on an AU KH RP community, but it never happened, but I found some of my oldest and closest friends there, so yaaaay!! URL- http://transient-awoken.tumblr.com/ AUTOPLAY WARNING
Zidane Tribal (Final Fantasy IX)
Data Sora (Kingdom Hearts Re:Coded)
Reeve/Cait Sith (Final Fantasy VII and Dirge of Cerberus)
Vincent Valentine (Final Fantasy VII and Dirge of Cerberus)

Vanitas- URL- https://menfilik.tumblr.com/
Category 2- TOME Canon Characters (because I have OCs too)
Nylocke- WAAAAAAY Back in 2011, I made him a blog, no one else was around, I cried, i deleted, but back them was when I started thinking of Omega... so that’s a plus
Zetto/Kirbopher- My second attempt at a TOME blog that I loved! the icon is from Muffin, I remember seeing the older one going omg it’s perfect, then I got to know her and she is very nice from what I remember (it’s been a while) URL- http://thexcyborgximp.tumblr.com/
Alpha/Kajet- URL- http://godsheritage.tumblr.com/ idk if it is auto play, but there is the possibility of music so AUTOPLAY WARNING
Sofdti/GC- http://lifelinkoftome.tumblr.com/
Category 3- TOME OCs (I’m putting them all here, even though some might fit in other categories)
Omega- He is one of my all time favorite muses I’ve ever made, I love using him, and I even named my car after him, same orange he has on his outfit. URL-http://remorseformistakes.tumblr.com/
King- Based off of an AU with a character named Lady Tigerlilly where the Virus takes over Zetto’s life. URL- http://incurableshadows.tumblr.com/
Squire- Same AU as above, but the other half of King’s code. Same URL.
Velvet- The Prototype to the Antivirus and ‘Older Sister’ of Cake’s oc Amber. I have done a lot more with her in private RP, so she’s grown more than the blog shows. URL- http://purpuravitae.tumblr.com/
Mocha Latte- The Barista of the Netkings named Jane Doe.
Category 4- Canon Misc (the muses on Tumblr that I used that aren’t big enough to class on their own like 1-3 were)

Pikachu (Pokemon)
N (Pokemon)
Male Pokemon Trainer (Pokemon Black and White)
Endrance (.hack series)
Haseo (.hack series)
Jade Curtiss (Tales of the Abyss)
Amaterasu (Okami Series)- I think I managed to get the blog url ‘Mother of All’, but that was ages ago
Shadow the Hedgehog (Sonic Series)
Levi Ackerman (Attack on Titan)
Nagito Komaeda (Danganronpa)
Rin Matsuoka (FREE!)
Link (Legend of Zelda)- I remember deciding to RP him as a mute, so I got really good at describing actions with him
Dark Link (Legend of Zelda)
Hsien-Ko (Darkstalkers)
B.B. Hood (Darkstalkers)
Sesshomaru (Inuyasha)
Category 5- OC Misc (same as above, but OCs)
Xurik (Kingdom Hearts)- Based off of a story I wrote for FANFICTION.NET (so ages ago) And never put up... I also have to heavily edit it, my vocabulary had found out about words such as ‘damn’, ‘shit’, and ‘fuck’ and I thought it was cool to use it a lot. I’ll take a pic of that notebook one day. it is a MESS. URL- http://ashenxheart.tumblr.com/
Kirara (Naruto)- A ninja with a demon that had an amazing voice, used songs to buff and debuff her allies and enemies.
Ezekiel (Final Fantasy IX)- the soul that became Zidane, he is the part of Zidane that craves the blood of Gaia’s Citizens. Can use a scythe made from blood and has Blood Wings......... I was just out of high school and very depressed XD
Riboruba (Final Fantasy VIII and Kingdom Hearts)- She is the personification of Squall’s/Leon’s Gunblade! Fun Fact: Riboruba is the Japanese pronunciation of Revolver, to which that is the style of Gunblade Squall has.
Category 6- Main Characters that are heavily AU-d
AU Abridged Yami Bakura (YGOTAS and Kingdom Hearts)- Yes... a parody character, which is it’s on AU in a way, in an AU where he is a keyblade wielder................................ tada! I made this with my good friend millennium-hearts at a con, and because of this blog we are practically family. URL- http://thiefxkeybladerxbakura.tumblr.com/ Possible AUTOPLAY WARNING
AU Cloud Strife (Final Fantasy VII)- He is basically Sephiroth, but winning, the world is pretty much dying/almost dead, so like.... Worst Case Scenario/Apocalypse AU
AU Nylocke (TOME) I’m putting this here because this is the Nylocke that is apart of the Omega Timeline. Where Nylocke had a twin brother (Nye is Colin-based on tta Nai’s name, and Martin- because Martin Billaney), who died. He is also the world’s best hacker, even better than the main villain of the blog, which was revealed once, but never by name. URL with Omega.
Hao Asakura- This was semi-based on the manga and the anime mixing. the story the blog was based off of is actually still on Fanfiction.Net i named Angel of the Devil (https://www.fanfiction.net/s/6203556/1/Angel-of-the-Devil) Feel free to read it! There are 9 chapters!
Glitchy Red (Pokemon Creepy Pasta)- He was based off of many different piecemeal creepy pastas (Lost Silver, Pokemon Black, Strangled Red, Glitchy Red, small stories about the candle instead of flash, but used in a house it would burn it down, and the rope inside would make you hang yourself). This blog got me into KORN.
Category 7- Muses on Blogs that belong there, but are not the main reason people went to said blog
Xirra (TTA)- She is a re-purposed character with a whole new look to fit into TOME, and I used her on Remorse for Mistakes
Darkeyes (TTA)- Much Like Xirra, but never got onto the blog much.
Demon Eyes Kyo (Demon Eyes Kyo)- I read this manga in the 6th grade... it is fucking bloody and gory, so don’t look it up if you are weak stomached. I used him as the Guardian Spirit of Hao on his blog instead of the Fire Spirit.
Beelzemon (Digimon)- I had him on a blog I have yet to mention, but you’ll see why I haven’t yet, that blog is in a category all of its own~
Keldeo (Pokemon) He made a brief appearance on Kirb/Zetto blog... Chris named him Vic........ because voiced by Vic......
Muses I’d love to make, but I finally have self control so I won’t make them
Infinite (Sonic Forces)- Because he is my super floof boy and I must PROTECC
Qrow Branwen (RWBY)- I must protecc the birb boi too
THE LUKA-POCALYPSE I have had a lot of Luka’s in my time RPing, and I loved the name so much, I use it as my online pseudonym now... now you will learn where I get it from!
Luka Crosszeria (Uraboku)- This was the man I fell for, he is extremely loyal and protective of the one he loves through every reincarnation they have, and will do anything, even betray his own kind for love. So in a way, I can relate. I want to do the same with my friends and family and girlfriend. This is the blog Beelzemon is on. URL- http://crosszeriaxbetrayer-blog.tumblr.com/ AUTOPLAY WARNING
Luka Crosszeria (Final Fantasy XIV)- She is my character from my favorite and most played MMO. And while she no longer has a blog, she does have an instagram! URL- https://www.instagram.com/luka_of_eorzea/
Luka Cross (OC- No other affiliation)- She is a girl with the power to summon elementals. From fire and ice spirits, to even the goddess of the moon. Her goal is to gain the power of Elder Summoning. Aldo Omega is in this AU as the guardian of the Library of Summoners, and he is an Elder Summon.
Luka (TOME)- She is the little sister of Xirra. A different kind of virus, hers is a contact epidemic virus that spreads through touch. She has her hands covered at all times, and is very shy, but is almost second to none in hand to hand combat, being at least 30 time stronger than her just 4 foot stature would lead you to believe. she is also a lolita that wears extremely tall boots, and yet she is still very short... like just under 5 foot short. She also dates a giant dragon... and she sounds like Hinata from Naruto... she is an actual baby that is months old
#long post under cut#all my muses!!!!!#well........ most that I remember.......#57 that's not including the muses I am restraining

KingsRoad Bot
The game is amazingly common, regardless if you happen to utilizing a keyboard and mouse, or possibly a touchscreen display screen. The only real-option common the ipad is beneficial. Placed your presumptions to action/action in excess of rpg, while there's large amounts of creating - more information on that after. |Enemies also commencement owning attributes like knockdown, level of acidity damage, hails of arrows, and much more. Of all the options Kingsroad Hack Trainer draws the grinding manage, it is in loot. To be the hand bags fill, you will obtain that you are currently in ownership of gemstones and creating powders to keep close track of for updating your socketed stuff. Although you take on dungeons you will unearth chests. You are able to establish a guild in the, or join a active a single one, and each and every amount gained with your guild will provide exclusive advantages. Modeled once other very effective arpg memberships like torchlight, you carry out a personality as a result of numerous quests, with you an day trip, and would replay every individual part that you just available. Also, there's armor forging in which you mix a couple of items of the same amount armor to make a unique bit of a significantly greater amount by using to pay for that It actually was affirmed exactly like a wizard once i became joined developing a dark night time a couple of amounts significantly greater. No aquarium-mages below. |Competitors rapidly find that a corporation is required to achieve as a result of some maps and moments - except if you'd instead grind your nature to get experience items - or buy them. does acquire some lovely festival know-how - lay down on hands and fingers (organization restore), protector (calls for all festival damage), but they are dangerous on the damage he bargains throughout a celebration (think of a great deal more damage = a great deal more older, a great deal more xp). Figure animation truths are likewise incredibly entertainment. If you're checking to obtain an mmo you can also single, you will find easier alternatives offered. Devotees of loot strong memberships will discover Kingsroad Hack Trainer rich in devices to check. I have not paid back a cent due to this f2p lev membership. No these kind of problem with kr. I'll just get instantly to the state pro’s: -fascinating visuals for almost any internet browser -no pay2win in anyway (gemstones can be accumulated as a result of lev membership) -each individual 2 weeks new website content -automatic invasion and automatic loot modes -improved lev membership, like evolving ur dragons con’s: -insanely grinded farm (you have to farm for several days at after devices (best is fabled, but grind starts out from relic devices exceptional once 2 weeks u require to farm an additional devices to be with easier statistics) -plenty of unfixed pests and glitches -enough awful assistance -storyline maps are very continual and terrifically boring to be able to grasp them -large amounts of “kiddish and crying” spammers round the universal chat’s -quickly to hack and rip-off lev membership. - pests should never be fixed. |The game was entertainment and addicted round the starting out but programmers developed to start to be at the same time greedy. Materials through the company are very really expensive and never worthwhile mainly because they grown to be out of date at the same time rapidly. What you need to do is register for a guild, and buy elevated lvl members that It is terrifically boring. They'll fly with lev membership, getting rid of concerns sooner, all to obtain the coating on the lev membership sooner and waste plenty of cash Is it multiple-person absolutely using the tutorial 4.5/10 i just executed three or more levals nevertheless the lev membership really is gorgeous, its similar to a internet browser oriented diablo! If you want cost-free without paying excess $$$$ for ones good stuff you may then do large amounts of grinding i like you'd be grinding the right path right through to possess a prospect of pounding the wold employer the initial time you will have to grind as a result of each individual dungeon large amounts of moments in case you do not imagination grinding and repetitiveness this isn't a poor lev membership i truly do not imagination the grinding. I am taken care of. Irrespective of all the moments we’ve collectively decided a little something was inconceivable, human being resourcefulness indicates the combined entirely wrong and repeatedly. A different part that memberships similar to this are recognized for is |certainly an infinite flow of items accumulated through the corpses among the adversaries. Very, Kingsroad Hack Trainer provide you with an affair you can benefit from endlessly and not have to waste a cent - regardless with one or two precious rewards to start thinking about carrying this out. You can possibly organization tabs on friends (or as quickly with other individuals) to perform quests, and doing this will web-based you a great deal more xp and loot of system may have single. If you find yourself keen on diablo or torchlight, Kingsroad Hack Trainer may well be the new habit, hands and fingers low. Car invasion gets results on one occasion you’ve aimed a little something, even though it mildly falters because your nature will certainly stand up there truly being handed down, rather than promptly aim for almost everything by itself. Besides the fact that there are numerous in-applying orders roughly, you will really seem to be you are getting a little something by keeping no-cost. get set up equipment cost-free with dungeons and my nature is whooping paid back data without any subsequent dollars set up him. And if you want to improvement you take. |The dark night time focuses on very close-up strikes, and both of those archer and wizard invasion on the long distance using arrows and spells correspondingly. This will make the sport exceedingly warm to shorter carry out sessions together with will cause it to be okay intended for probable future adaptation to mobile gizmos. Discovering “find party” in direction of the top of the panel while in the city enables the game player to register with as much as three or more good friends and take on quests together with each other. inclination to have the need for tiny bit in the matter of technique and even more in the matter of rapidly replying to cases considering that they occur. Other suppliers comprise of data who'll art equipment for possibly really difficult currency or a mixture of gentle currency, some time to element equipment an “alchemist” who provides several increaser potions in exchange for really difficult currency and also traditional item and stuff suppliers. It seems perfect, tunes perfect, plays okay, boasts superior quality penning with many different personality, and most importantly does not insult the game player when you find yourself at the same time competitive with possibly its monetization or personal boasts. This is a diablo-layout action function-playing lev membership with boasts - which include multiple-person - and it is servers are maintaining all right. |enhances the xp bought in the entire festival. isn't when it comes up, plus the king’s absence a different evil calls for basic inside your home, damaging not only for his kingdom but at the same time his only daughter, princess emma. nameless hero, over a road map that's at all times focused on their nature, main-low layout. If you want to snipe lessen your adversaries from afar, the ranger program will perform the function, together with his volleys of arrows for extensive-spectrum bombardment. This power to modify sessions in-around quests produces members alternatives teaching you how to pull off the research they are planning to coating. Placing these tiny bit highlights makes this game entertainment to see whenever you developed into a experience you ought to aren't mindlessly droning about and maintaining as a result of maps monotonously. Just in case you possess a sword, skull devices and boot footwear which are the same evaluation, you may create these 3 equipment to get a new item among the significantly greater evaluation. Close to members can customize the way in which their hero appears to be with new weapons and stuff, customization on the nature is thin air established. Aside from that, there's no road map to chat of when you find yourself within the among the many situations. |Even when Kingsroad Hack Trainer has some personal parts with guilds and exclusive raiding moments, it's possible to bypass all many people together with each other and basically really grind with maps to get easier equipment for their hero. Finding a incredibly great forging and enchanting equipment would absolutely make replaying the finalized dungeons Also, each individual 2 weeks prone to affair, and also to enjoy yourself ! playing the bronze level (before anything else level on the 4 marks) you'll require a source of electricity of 1100 items. In Kingsroad Hack Trainer you will find 3 sessions. When your employer do not take a look at computer monitor for twenty to a quarter-hour, you will be And you might carry out co-op with as much as two friends or unique other people. In your before anything else playthrough you will not earn very nearly enough signifies take a look at all things you want, therefore it is at all times a challenging verdict If you want to art easier equipment, you should pay up an enormous charge and delay on a daily basis to advancement the create. Cooking is actually a a lot simpler system-just as in other action-rpgs, you shouldn't get difficulty in Kingsroad Hack Trainer continuing to keep an enormous store of health and wellness equipment. |There's two currencies below: older, this really is plentiful, and gemstones, who are exceptional holding roughly but can be acquired for very cold cash. Literally, almost all the chests i paid back to open up did not supply almost everything helpful in anyway. As you can imagine, you slackers playing at the office probably will transform the appear to be away anyway. Abandon the security on the hearth regarding whilst you conflict to steer clear of the players of evil from dominating the entire world. Your hero, your narrative - earn epic loot and feature it with take great pride in. You will find three or more ability groups all over the simple surge affair: crimson: boosts water damage and mold and mildew by 50Per cent. Eco-warm: extensive heals you together with also supplies 75Per cent cooldown reduction.

A VERY DESCRIPTIVE & DETAILED PROFILE OF YOUR MUSE. repost with the information of your muse, including headcanons, etc. when you’re done, tag as many people as you want to do the same!

okay! here’s one of the many my archer from Dragon Nest~ this one’s special to me because she started off as little more than a glorified avatar for an MMO, but started to grow a bit of personality over the years.
still, it feels a bit odd for me (though not in a way i mind!) to write about of Supri the character. it’s kind of like how your ears automatically prick up when you hear people talk about someone who shares your name, even when you know they don’t mean you. though i guess this is more like the inverse of the situation.
NAME : Supri AGE : she probably doesn't know. i would think that elves don't keep track of time the way humans do SPECIES : Elf GENDER : Female ORIENTATION : quite frankly i'm not sure how elven sexuality works. they’re kind of like walking trees :v PROFESSION : whatever she does, it's in the sensory experience that she delights the most. she's probably best suited to fieldwork, maybe in something to do with horticulture. in-game, she’s a Sniper (physical longbow user). ___________________________________________
{ PHYSICAL ASPECTS } BODY TYPE : i am not a fan of the elf archetype, but somehow i fell in love with the elves from Dragon Nest. their stoutness is probably due to the game's art direction rather than being a comment on design conventions. but as a result, Alteran elves have an air of grace (as elves are wont to), but their heavier-set proportions dispel the usual aloofness that comes with it. it gives them a more earthy kind of feel. also it's cute. i digress. Supri has perky ears, a big forehead, and stocky thighs. HAIR : platinum blonde, just past her shoulderblades. she prefers it out of her face, but dislikes tying it up. it's generally a windblown mess. EYES : light blue. this is also a consequence of the game’s art direction, but i like that it’s all irises and no visible pupils SKIN : on the fair side, but tans easily HEIGHT : 5′6″ ___________________________________________
{ FAMILY } MOTHER : the Tree of Life FATHER : N/A SIBLINGS : all elves are sisters, and less commonly, brothers. Supri’s particularly attached to Archer Trainer Ishilien, of Saint’s Haven. ANY PETS? : yes [x] || no [ ] – Lu-Bu, a red horse hatched from a dragon egg – Zeppeli, a poochum. he and Supri like to forage for truffles together – it has been a lifelong dream of Supri's to train a wild Spitflower as a battle mount. no luck yet, however. ___________________________________________
{ SKILLS } PHYSICAL PROWESS : 6/10 SPEED : 8/10 TECHNICAL : 1/10 ARTISTRY : 3/10 WORDPLAY : 4/10 DEXTERITY : 5/10 ___________________________________________
{ LIKES } COLOURS : deep blue SMELLS : General Duglas, leaves about to fall, freshly baked bread, harvest smells FOOD : barley permeated with soup, nutty breads with cheese and lots of butter, mushrooms DRINKS : soups! ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES : yes [x] || rarely [ ] || no [ ] – socially FAVOURITES : General Duglas, late summer breezes, snow that goes "crunch", falling asleep by a fire, human holidays and traditions ___________________________________________
{ OTHER DETAILS } SMOKES ? : yes [ ] || no [ ] || occasionally [x] DRUGS ? : yes [ ] || no [x] || occasionally [ ] DRIVER LICENSE ? : yes [ ] || no [x] – if licenses are needed in Altera, she is definitely illegal EVER BEEN ARRESTED ? : yes [ ] || no [ ] || almost/detained [x] – ...seems like the kind of thing that would happen to her

Video Game Addiction in the World of Warcraft
Video game addiction is definitionally a controversial subject, given that there’s disagreement over whether such a thing even exists. If we separate the clinical concept from the colloquial usage of the term, we’re more likely to be able to come to general agreement. Everyone has known someone (assuming you haven’t been the someone) who, at one point or another, spent way too much time buried in a game and way too little engaged with the world around them.
Most recently, discussions on video game addiction and inappropriate player retention techniques have focused on issues like the use of microtransactions and loot crates. Players have a variety of concerns surrounding these issues, including the use of gambling mechanics to generate revenue and increase customer engagement. The question of whether MMORPGs are overly addictive is the sort of topic that was being debated more widely about a decade ago.
It felt nearly retro to see the headline “World of Warcraft Changed Video Games and Wrecked Lives” go by at Vice. It’s a topic with some personal resonance for me. The article describes what happened to several people who describe themselves or their loved ones as World of Warcraft addicts who played and engaged with the game to a much greater degree than was healthy.
Why Are MMO’s Easy to Get ‘Stuck’ In?
Multiple people Vice spoke to identified World of Warcraft as offering a supportive community for various identity issues or life struggles they were going through at the time, even if they often felt that their own relationship with the game had fundamentally been an unhappy one. This dovetails with my own thinking. While I never allowed World of Warcraft to take over my own life, I played a great deal of the game during some tumultuous and difficult years. I participated in the PvP grind that the Vice article discusses and wear my “Commander” tag to this day. I saw people become colloquially “addicted” to WoW, in the sense that WoW became central to their lives. It’s not that everybody quits their job and becomes a full-time player, so much as being able to count on people to show up around 6 PM and hang around until 10-11 PM, 5-7 nights a week.
Vice’s article hints at part of the reason why this happens: community. Players in WoW self-sort themselves into guilds for the purposes of raiding endgame dungeons and (more rarely) for PvP. It’s not uncommon, at this point, for long-time WoW players to have real-world friendships that have transcended the game. While I am not in regular contact with the vast majority of people I played WoW with, I remain friends with a double-digit group of people that I met solely as a result of our mutual travels through Azeroth.
But WoW didn’t just offer a community. It offers a chance to succeed publicly, to be recognized for that achievement, and to feel as though you are making a positive contribution to something larger than yourself. Leading a group of 25-40 people through a series of choreographed fights while they variously alt-tab, argue, bio break, check Thottbot, check YouTube, get distracted, make food, kill random trash, and occasionally kill bosses felt like an achievement at the end of the night, especially if you’d refrained from throttling the guild leader after he speculated that we should just give all the caster DPS loot to mages by default in the middle of a raid.
It wasn’t always this bad. It just often felt that way. Image by BlizzPro.
Most of the addiction stories that Vice recounts are from earlier in WoW’s history, when the game required a significantly higher time commitment than it does today. That’s one reason why the second parts of my WoW leveling comparison haven’t appeared yet. It’s not that I haven’t logged time in-game, it’s that the amount of time required to level goes up substantially in Classic, while Retail remains a comparative sprint. One of the reasons why people used to log more time in WoW is that WoW used to require it in order for you to be truly successful. In the Classic era, you couldn’t make enough gold from raiding to support the cost of raiding in an endgame progression guild — you had to play the game on top of that.
It’s this combination that I think made WoW (and MMOs in general) “addictive” in ways that a single-player RPG like Skyrim or Dragon Age: Origins really isn’t. First, you’re interacting and socializing with a group of friends you’ve generally chosen to play with. Second, you’re actually working at something that requires some dedication and commitment to succeed. You didn’t have to be a great player to wind up in endgame gear, but a good progression guild had standards and demanded that people show up on-time with buffs on and ready to play. Maybe your clever use of Divine Protection kept the main healer alive when a fear caught the main tank off-guard. Maybe you knew how to stance dance to maximize rage generation. Maybe you were the Druid with a fast-fingered battle rez or the hunter who could always be relied on to handle an add or take Drak for a walk. Maybe you’re the rogue tank who makes snarky comments about how well you can hang with plate wearers and then winds up splattered down the side of Blackrock Mountain.
(I never said all these comparisons were going to be complimentary).
Regardless of the role you played, being good at WoW offered social interaction and validation in a way that a single-player game doesn’t. It was difficult enough to “feel” like work in some psychologically important ways, without being so hard as to represent a challenge on par with the pits and snares of everyday interaction.
Should Blizzard Have Made WoW Less Addictive?
It would be a mistake to pretend people weren’t asking this question 10-14 years ago. Everquest had already been nicknamed “Evercrack” before WoW hit the scene. Nor do I recall Blizzard taking enormous pains to help people disconnect from WoW, though there were a few hint messages that would pop up in-game from time to time reminding players to take a break and only enjoy the game in moderation. It’s worth asking, yes, if Blizzard could have done more than it did. But it’s also worth remembering that MMOs were a lot newer than they are now, with smaller playerbases. World of Warcraft was the game that popularized the MMO genre like no other title ever had.
It’s easy to forget now, but in 2004, Blizzard was the new kid trying to break into the market. I still remember reading head-to-head comparisons of WoW versus Everquest 2, some of which predicted that WoW would be the game to fall by the wayside as Everquest 2 took over EQ1’s built-in player base. The other facet of the conversation that’s easy to lose is that World of Warcraft was hailed at launch for requiring less grinding and being more accessible to individuals than any MMO had been before. Blizzard set out to make a game that was easier for people to play, with less frustrating roadblocks and readily accessible fun.
Vice brings up the WoW PvP grind as an example of a place where the game took a catastrophic wrong turn, and I’ll tell you, they aren’t wrong about that. The PvP of original WoW was an extreme grind. Unhealthily so. But it’s also a system that Blizzard modified even before The Burning Crusade launched, before dumping it altogether. This aspect of the game was gone, never to return, by 2007. Classic WoW might recreate that system, but it does so at the explicit request of the player base.
The problem with declaring that Blizzard should have made WoW less addictive in the run-up to launch in 2004 is that it assumes game designers have a perfect understanding themselves of where that line is or that it’s easy to parse such information from the mountains of player feedback that millions of first-time MMO players were churning out. Blizzard was attempting to build a game that would meet the expected requirements of players who wanted a “hardcore” experience against those from “casual” players that wanted the game to be more accessible. The other term for casual players was “filthy casuals,” which gives you some idea how much these two groups of people got along with each other. From its launch, however, WoW moved consistently in one direction — towards making it easier for people to play for smaller amounts of time.
I think it’s much fairer to criticize WoW and Blizzard for the degree to which they acknowledged that some WoW players did have problems with addiction as the game moved forward, or even to argue that the game could have included features intended to check on players who were playing too much as time went on. At the same time, virtually every change Blizzard has made over the past 15 years has been aimed at making it faster to play WoW. The PvP grind? Gone for well over a decade. Reputation grinds? Much faster. Unlocking major abilities like flying and mounts? Happens much quicker in the game. You don’t even need to visit trainers to learn skills any longer. The game has been categorically overhauled to make it faster and easier to play, and these changes haven’t all been dumped in at one point — the game began evolving in this direction in 2004 and it hasn’t really stopped at any point.
Ultimately, I found the Vice piece somewhat frustrating — not because I doubt that WoW had a negative impact on people’s lives, but because it doesn’t really engage with the fact that World of Warcraft was, ultimately, a product of its time and designed the way it was in part to meet the demands of its own player base. It doesn’t engage with the fact that much was learned in the gaming industry as a result of World of Warcraft or that the game as it exists today is, in a very meaningful sense, not the title that it was in 2004. It doesn’t really engage with the difficult question of how to help people who get hooked into video games (or any other form of entertainment). It doesn’t touch on the fact that compared with the modern era’s loot crates and microtransactions, the idea that people would spend insane amounts of time grinding Dark Iron rep or killing mobs in PvP purely for in-game rewards comes off as rather quaint and self-assured.
That’s one thing about WoW Classic that I intended to put into its own article but that I’ll pull out for this one. WoW Classic is confident in its willingness to ask you to spend time doing things. It doesn’t ask you to buy microtransactions to speed things along. It doesn’t advertise the ability to purchase six Onyxia Death Tokens to get more chances at her loot drops on your next kill. It just… takes a while. Far from trying to climb in your pockets and rifle them for spare change, WoW Classic says, “This is going to take a while. Let’s have some fun along the way.” World of Warcraft Classic is striking to play partly because it exists in an era before game developers treated player time investment as a monetizable commodity.
There are more nuanced ways to explore the question of why people are drawn into MMO worlds than Vice has engaged in here — questions that range beyond the mechanics of the game and explore the social aspects that draw people together. Some of the people Vice spoke to clearly touched on these issues with discussions of identity and finding like-minded communities of players. The topic is more complicated than this treatment ultimately addressed.

A Slime Approaches! Never Underestimate the Potential of a Slime!
Fans of fantasy video games and anime are well acquainted with the seemingly innocent and cute slime. Dragon Quest uses the iconic monster as their mascot, and almost every game starts with your party facing the seemingly innocent and weak monsters as a trainer to larger battles to come. Ragnarok Online features a similar mascot style slime, the Poring, who bounces around willy-nilly without a care in the world, just begging you to slaughter them for some simple EXP. Slimes are usually round, jiggly, and seemingly oblivious, making it easy to underestimate them or see them as weak. But in reality, a slime is a pretty scary opponent, especially if it has the means to know just how scary it’s unique traits can be. So, don't go doing a silly thing like underestimating slimes and their capacity for an unexpected and total destruction!
Many a game of Dragon Quest has ended abruptly at the hand of powerful slimes, and many more MMO players found themselves similarly outclassed by high level slime monters, but some anime have gone even further than simple leveling differences to bring the true power of a slime to life. When you think about it, a slime is a somewhat gelatinous, amorphous blob that seems to have no organs, brain, or limbs. But, that hides the fact that a slime is also pretty resistant to being cut or slashed, with either the attacker’s blade bouncing off or the slime simply reforming its cut halves after being struck. Slimes also don’t need to breathe, and their ability to absorb their prey is pretty terrifying when you think about it! Slimes also seem to be documented with the ability to mimic shapes and forms of other things, meaning that slimes may be better at hiding who they are than you might think! For example, MONSTER MUSUME EVERYDAY LIFE WITH MONSTER GIRLS’ Suu takes the form of various sizes and shapes to fit in better with the girls around her, and in That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime, Rimuru shows off his impressive mimicry skills by taking on the form of monsters he’s defeated!
Absorption of abilities and material is another skill that slimes possess that may not seem as powerful at first glance. After all, most slimes seem small and innocent, rarely larger than a basketball, but what about slimes that have much more mass than they let on, or better yet, slimes that hide their true form in a disguise?! In Overlord, Pleides member Solution Epislon appears to be a stunningly beautiful woman, but her true nature is that of an amorphous slime that can easily fill the entire space of a carriage, devouring all of the inhabitants inside in an instant! Similarly, Rimuru is able to encompass the entire mass of Veldora Tempest and the magic barrier inside of him, and easily spreads his slime body around the monsters he defeats in order to absorb them before returning to his original size. In Dragon Quest, a group of slimes may seem relatively weak at first, but they can easily combine with one another to become a powerful King Slime, capable of using magic or other abilities through their combined size and skill! Suu even displays that, in Monster Musume’s world, the type of things absorbed by a slime can have varying effects upon the slime’s disposition and ability, as shown when she becomes incredibly intelligent upon absorbing hard water!
The ability to mimic other things seems to be a unique trait to fantasy slimes, meaning that what you see isn’t always what you get, but in some cases, such as Rimuru, that mimicry can even extend to learning skills and abilities that would seem far beyond the capability of a slime! Rimuru manages to create water blades from his body, as well as sharpened or sticky threads to trap and defeat opponents, all by using the skills of enemies he has absorbed. Thanks to Rimuru’s Great Sage class abilities, he’s easily able to copy the form and abilities of defeated foes, and even utilize those various abilities and new and interesting ways, making him a dangerous foe to stand up against, despite his seemingly small and docile form!
And while those are all great offensive abilities, it really is a slime’s natural defenses that make them potentially scary to underestimate. While video games may fudge the reality of being able to defeat a slime in physical combat, Overlord and That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime show that slimes have no real physical weaknesses. Cutting something that has no solid body is like trying to cut water, and the amorphous, decentralized body of a slime means that attacking one part of it doesn’t even mean you’ll be attacking a part that really matters; after all, it’s pretty hard to stab an enemy in the heart if they don’t have one! Also, as slimes absorb matter, they grow larger and are readily able to heal and regenerate themselves; Suu grows almost to the size of a building, Rimuru uses his absorbed materials to repair the small damage he suffered while bouncing around the cave, and Epsilon merely laughed in cruel delight as her victims were swept up into her body, their attacks having no effect on her at all! Slimes are also resistant to fire and electricity, having bodies that are essentially flame retardant and non-conductive. Although cold might be a threat, Rimuru at least has a natural, built in defense against that, making him a truly powerful slime!
While we likely all have fond memories of the cute slimes of Dragon Quest, hopefully this helped correct the idea that slimes are weak, easily defeated enemies. It would be terrible to end up facing a slime, only to underestimate it; and if that slime can talk? You better watch out, because it seems that the most dangerous slimes here have one thing in common: intelligence! Combine the amorphous and resistant body of a slime with the ability to absorb matter and a cunning intellect and you might go from the hunter to the hunted! So, next time you run into a slime, you might want to treat it with the respect it deserves!
What are your favorite slime monsters in anime and games? Let us know in the comments!
