Technically no beta, Technically. 

It was early morning, the sun not yet touching the sky. Snow covers the ground in splotches, trees crips and cold draped in white. There was little movement at the start of the woods, most creatures resting while birds awoke to sing. They flew away as two sets of feet began to crawl through the brush. One wore soft leather boots, trying to ward off the cold chill of the ice. The other had padded scaled feet, yet one of the three limbs held no scales or flesh past the elbow. Torn and limp flesh covered by yellow scales led to tendons barely holding on. Bones barely seemed to hold together as they moved throughout the snow. Every now and then one seemed to snap off before maroon colored webbing seemed to pull it back into place. The human would flinch every time it happened. The crack was unpleasant to say the least. 

“You don’t have to follow all the way you know.” Sun’s voice was soft as the first light of morning finally climbed over the mountains. “You’re getting cold.” The human laughed softly, their cloak pulled tighter around them. 

“I’ll stay warm enough, we should worry about you more Sunny.” They smile at him, patting his muzzle softly. Sun let out an indignant huff, a cloud of water vapor curling around his head. 

“I am not to concerned over my well being, as you seem to forget I cannot be killed by the cold.” He dug his talons into the snow to prove his point. The human's smile fell a little as they looked at the fleshless limb. There was a moment of uncomfortable stillness before Sun began to move again. He couldn’t help but glance at the leg himself before looking away in disdain. He had before always thought his golden scales were beautiful, yet the ones leading to his leg had dulled and darkened into Something he found hideous. A deep reminder of the curse Eclipse had put on him and Moon. The human caught up to him quickly, pulling him away from his thoughts. 

“How much longer now?” They brushed their hand against his wing, the warmth of their hand almost burning hot to the thin membrane. Sun shuttered, not realizing how cold they had gotten before pulling them closer to his body.

“It shouldn’t be much farther now, just past these next few trees.” He looked towards the sun in the sky, basking in its warmth. His eyes closed as he relaxed in the light, scales shimmering in the light a little. His moment was ruined by the soft sound of giggling from beside him. 

“So do you always pose majestic like that?” Their voice is teasing as they lean against his side a little. “Basking in the glowing warmth of the morning sun and not my blazing warmth my dear? Oh how you wound me.”

“More like a little candle on the shelf.” Sun chuckles, grinning at them as they let out an offended gasp. They are about to say something before Sun freezes, the strong metallic sting of blood hitting his nose. Of course he was used to the smell of blood, but the scent of this blood reminded him deeply of Moon with an undertone of rain it seems to have.

“Sun? Sun what’s wrong?” They didn’t get a response as Sun bolted forward, snow scattered to the air. He made it a good few yards before the bones of his arm gave and sent him toppling into the ground. A loud snarl of frustration and hatred for the limb left him as the maroon strings gathered and pulled his bones back together. The panicked footsteps of the human quickly catch up as they move next to him.

“don’t take off like that!” 

“Moon- Something is wrong with Moon!” He was quick to get up again, moving as quickly as he could without relying on his bony leg. The burning sting of metallic only got stronger the closer to his home he got. Fear sunk into his skin, as blood splotches stained the snow at the start of the hollow tree they lived in. It was still warm as he passed it, avoiding touching it directly. He called into the tree, panic bleeding into his voice as he looked around. Blood trailed deeper in, towards one of the root rooms. Sun stumbled In quickly, eyes wide when he finally spotted Moon, huddled in the corner. Moon’s claws were digging into the scales of his face, blood pooling around the deep open wounds acros his muzzle and cheek. He digs his talons deeper into the wound at the sight of Sun. Sun let out a small cry of agony as he stumbled forward, pulling Moon’s talons away from his face. The human slowly steps into the room, eyes widening in horror as they see the wound. 

“Moon- moon what happened!-” Suns voice is frantic as he tries to clear the blood away. His talons twitch and he flinches away as a splotch lands on his bony hand. “Moon, what did you do….” Moon only cowers further into the corner, looking down at his bloodied hands. 

“I look- ….I look too much like him” his voice is weak as his talons dig into the skin of his arms. Sun gently pries them off, pulling Moon’s talons into his own. The human had moved over to them now, taking their undercloak to try and wipe away the blood gently. 

“Moonbloom,” they reached up, trying to coax him closer, “we need to clean your wounds” Sun nods in agreement with them, hands shaking a little. Moon curls his lip a little, growling before lowering his head. Gently they take his head in their hand, rubbing away the blood as much as they can. Moon winces as they carefully wipe away the blood around the wounds themselves. 

“you don’t have to clean it….. Eclipse’s curse won’t let any infection kill me anyways” his voice is bitter, talons flexing as he looks at Sun's arm. Tears slowly gathered in his eyes. A small snarl leaving his mouth. Sun hisses softly, looking away.

“It still hurts doesn’t it?” Their voice is soft as they continue to clean the scratches. They reach up and rub his other cheek, pulling him closer and resting their forehead against his. “Just because you can’t die doesn’t mean you shouldn’t still take care of yourself Moonbloom” they kiss softly between his eyes. They could hear Sun shift behind them before his head rested on their shoulder.

“Why?” Suns voice is weak, eyes staring off into the distance. “No matter what we do we can’t escape the curse, we can’t live our lives how we planned. The only way we can get back at Clips is to just give up ....” Moon leans into their touch, nodding a little at Sun’s words. His face burned a little as the tears started to slip into his open wounds. 

“You guys….. That not- …. that's not what you should be thinking at all.” They direct the tears away from Moon's wounds, resting their hand there as their other rests on Sun’s cheek. “I know you don’t want to live forever, I wouldn’t either, but you shouldn’t just let yourself fall apart. We can work to undo your immortality but not if you both give up.” 

“It took Eclipse years to even figure out how to gain immortality.” Sun’s voice is annoyed as he moves closer to them. Moon closes his eyes, talons digging into the dirt.

“We have an eternity” He tries to joke, voice falling flat. “You'll help right?” He presses closer to the human, tail curling around both them and Sun. 

“I will die for this cause my dear dragons,” there was a small smile to their voice, eyes closed as they kissed both Sun and Moon's cheek. 

“You care too much for us when we will outlive you….” Sun mutters, wrapping his arms around them. 

“I do, I care so much for you two. Oh, and I’ll never stop caring.” They stayed that way, all wrapped in each other’s embrace. 

Context!

This is for an Au I haven’t posted much about yet, Scales upon Skulls. In this Au Eclipse, Moon and Sun all lived together, protecting each other. While on a hunt Moon came in contact with an infected rabbit that gave him what Sun and Eclipse originally thought was some sort of rabies, later finding out it was a curse by a demon using rabbits to spread it. (They find out through The Sunrise Bear, Fready, who had his friends infected with the same curse) the curse supposedly took years, but in a panic Eclipse, had decided to use ancient magic that other dragons had previously discovered to make the three of them immortal, hoping that would give him more time to help Moon break free from the curse. He did this without asking Sun or Moon. Moon at this point had stopped talking to sun, and was reacting violently to anyone coming near him. Eclipse had to drag him and restrain him as he used the magic to make them all immortal. What he didn’t expect was for the immortality to cancel out the curse. Sun and Moon immediately asked him to remove the magic but he didn’t know how, but started declaring that immortality would be great. Sun and moon took this as he just wanted the immortality, that saving moon was just a side effect. They got into a huge argument before trapping Eclipse in a cave, leaving him there to rot as they tried to figure out how to undo what they began to call Eclipse’s curse.

Soooo, have the fairy boys ever come across people playing dnd? If so, how did they react the first time they saw it?

Hmmm I think it's safe to say maybe Moon (and perhaps Lunar) saw some kids or teens staying up late having their sessions.

They aren't quite sure what to make of it, though, aside from seeing it as like a storytelling game.
