Cain - my Yu-Gi-Oh! GX OC! Cain Grayson is a fun-loving new Slifer Red student at Duel Academy who harbors a dark secret. When dueling, he seems to black out, taking on a dark persona which leaves his defeated opponents comatose. This strange shift in personality could be tied to the mysterious deck of cards his father gave him or, possibly, his Ace Monster, Starving Venom Fusion Dragon.
Seemingly afraid of dueling, Cain avoids it whenever possible, earning him a less-than-stellar reputation among other students. Due to the awful things that seem to happen when using his father's Deck, Cain often attempts using decks of haphazardlythrown-together cards, frequently resulting in his defeat. He later discovers that his father's deck - the Dark World Deck - is possessed by Grapha, the Dragon Lord of Dark World. Grapha has been taking over Cain's body during duels and harvesting souls to feed the power of the Dark World. Eventually picking up on Cain's dilemma, Jaden challenges Grapha to a duel to stop his reign of terror on the Academy. Jaden manages to gain the advantage during their duel, but is hesitant to strike the finishing blow for fear of what will happen to Cain, whose body and spirit Grapha still holds hostage. Wrestling for a brief moment of control, Cain sabotages Grapha's strategy and urges Jaden to deal the finishing blow. Jaden attacks and ends the duel, but Cain's soul is lost in the process as he sacrifices himself to save his friends. Trapped in the Dark world, Cain's Spirit is eventually greeted by the silhouette of a person who offers him a new deck of cards - the Gem-Knights. Using this newfound power, Cain challenges his captor to a final showdown. With the Gem-Knights' help, Cain is victorious in destroying Grapha and earning his escape from the Dark World. He awakens to find himself in the hospital wing of the Academy, still clutching the Deck of Gem-Knight Cards. Thank you for reading! This is a highly abridged description of Cain's Character arc. If you'd like to know more feel free to ask or leave a comment!

made two this time so they have a search target friend
(Also pictured in the background: Grapha, Dragon Lord of Dark World, Space Mambo and Blue Eyes Toon Dragon that I didn't feel like making a separate post for. Grapha basically just has some small bits cut out bc the dragon itself takes up so much frame real estate)

Since I’m still on a GX mood, if Komoney goes insane and commits some sort of child sacrifice to bring back Tomioka like brought Aya Matsui from Pokémon for SEVENS for a (probably inevitable) GX reboot, I like how, theoretically speaking, you have representatives for all major summoning gimmicks:
*You have Chazz/Jun and Daigo from S4 for LV monsters, with Chazz doubling as the Union rep.
*You have Bastion/Daichi who uses Main Deck Special Summons.
*You have Alexis/Asuka as the Ritual rep, since Konami seems to committed to her ARC-V incarnation’s Deck.
*You have Jaden/Judai for Fusions, of course, but he and Aster/Edo (and the Supreme King) have all now Link monsters as well.
*You have Jesse/Johan(n) for Pendulum summoning (who also might be his previous incarnations).
*You have Hassleberry/Kenzan for Xyz summoning, since his Duel Links deck uses Evol- cards.
*And you have Blair/Rei for Synchros, because her Obelisk Blue incarnation in Tag Force 3 use Lightsworns (and they have Xyz and Link monsters, in addition to the obligatory evil counterparts, Twilightsworns, brainwashed by Dark World’s Dragon Lord, Grapha.)
Of course, you have also other characters who are kind of c*cked in terms of post-humous support, like Syrus/Sho, Axel/Austin, Jim(whose deck has only been recenly released), Sartorius/Saio, Prof. Viper/Cobra, Yubel, and Adrian/Amon. And you have odd-balls like Marcel/Martin who could also use a non-possessed Deck, like some sort of reverse-engineered proto-Frightfurs. This is also not counting countless other characters whose decks are not released fully, like Fujiwara, Nightshroud/Darkness, and Chumley/Hayato.
But you have enough variety with the supporting cast and some of the Shadow Riders to utilize the non-Fusion/Tribute/Ritual/Main Deck Special Summon tactics. You don’t really have this with most other series, besides ARC-V, which is still new compared to GX, and, DM, which didn’t have a lot of archetype-focused cards.

Happy “Dark World” Week! [10/21-10/27]
“Grapha, Dragon Lord of Dark World” is named for graphite, a shade of grey. Because the monster is named after a grey color that isn’t a royal metal, its naming likely reflects its status as the most powerful “Dark World” monster, being the most grey.

Fabled Raven ———————————————— Once per turn: You can discard any number of cards, and if you do, this card gains 1 Level and 400 ATK for each discarded card, until the end of this turn. ———————————————— Can Be Found In: Duelist Evolution (DREV-EN091), Battle Pack: Epic Dawn (BP01-EN205), Realm of Light Structure Deck (SDLI-EN020), Duel Terminal 7a (DT07-EN012)
Fabled is an archetype often compared to the Dark World monsters, as both of them focuses on discarding their members to obtain certain benefits and abilities. However, while Dark World has a better offense in early game with strong monsters to cheaply summon from the first turn, Fabled has liberties when comes to how to discard their monsters. By even discarding cards as a cost, Fabled monsters will activate their effects as they simultaneously prepare other objectives such as Synchro Summon. Therefore, a Fabled Deck can keep the board under control with effects requiring to discard cards as their monsters further improve our performance and overwhelm the opponent in no time.
"Fabled Raven" is a popular choice arround the archetype and a few other builds due the several benefits that can provide. By discarding as many cards as we want, "Raven" will gain a Level and 400 ATK for each card spent this way. As a Tuner the Level increase can assist us on various Extra Deck setups, while the stat boost might give us a push to finish off certain targets in battle. However, the true power of "Raven" comes from the requeriment itself, as by giving us the liberty to discard as many cards as we like we can obtain several effects arround its allies and other options we can mix together.
The archetype is in an odd spot when comes supporting "Fabled Raven" and others, as most of their cards are monsters and barely any Spells or Traps will assist them. On the bright side, disposing "Fabled Grimro" from our hand will suffice to search for "Raven" and start the first turns with its pressence. Other options will come if we mix Fableds with other monsters related to the Fiend-Type, like "Wandering King Wildwind" being banished from the Graveyard or working along Dark World and "Lucent, Netherlord of Dark World" to summon "Raven" from inside our Deck. However, most of the help arround "Raven" will come in late game thanks to revival effects like "Fabled Krus" and others, assuring this monster is back no matter how ends in our Graveyard.
The possibilities arround "Raven" will range from preparing itself as material to stacking several effects as we invest most of our hand on its abilities. While increasing its own Level can help with Synchro and Xyz Summons of all kinds, the true potential of "Raven" comes from the cards we used to achieve its Level and ATK increase. Obviously Fabled gets great benefits from this cost, allowing us to potentially swarm the board with members like "The Fabled Ganashia" and "The Fabled Cerburrel", as well trigger abilities like "The Fabled Catsith" to destroy cards with. One important thing to point out is that discarding cards by "Raven" is not treated as a cost, therefore letting this monster assist Dark World Decks in a similar approach. From summoning several copies of "Goldd, Wu-Lord of Dark World" or "Lucent, Netherlord of Dark World", to further improving our situation with the effects of "Snoww, Unlight of Dark World" and "Grapha, Dragon Lord of Dark World", is not rare to find "Raven" more prevalent in this archetype rather its own. Finally, some Decks can be a bit reckless to try to spend their hand as soon as possible to prepare the Graveyard from the first turns, like Infernity achieving their handless effects or triggering the Graveyard effects of Burning Abyss monsters.
Despite being a Tuner with the ability to increase its Level and power up itself if needed, "Fabled Raven" became a popular choice in various builds by its requeriment to spend cards on said effect. From our very first turn "Raven" gives us the potential to stack several effects from both Fabled and Dark World monsters by activating its effect, so even if is not used as material right away the results that can cause will become highly benefitial under the right hand. Unfortunately "Raven" lost some prevalence over the years and is solely seen in some Dark World strategies, as many Fabled's effects have a discard cost to sinergize with each other along Spells and Traps that we can pay their activation with our cards at hand. Nonetheless, "Raven" incredible potential to lead the first turns by investing several cards in their tame effects still makes it a valuable monster for several Decks involving discard and Graveyard interactions.
Personal Rating: A-
+ Lets us discard cards to increase its ATK and Level + Able to trigger certain effects by discarding cards like Fabled and Dark World
- Lacking in support - Spending several cards on its effects can be reckless and a waste - Overshadowed by other effects arround discarding cards

Duel: Dimitri v. Des (25 April 2015)
Both Des and Dimitri drew their respective cards. Des drew with no hesitation, and his navy blue eyes were deadset on Dimitri's, looking for any sign of weakness. Knowing all too well of the toll that the Orichalcos had taken on Dimitri and how much he had been beating himself up over it, Des was not about to hold back against his old friend.
"So, why don't you start us off?" Des asked confidently, immediately noticing the slight shudder in Dimitri's stance. It was no secret, at least to Des, that Dimitri always preferred to go second in a duel. Always intent on feeling an opponent out first, Dimitri's strategy almost always relied on manuevering around his opponent's cards while trying to avoid setting up the field himself. Reluctantly, Dimitri drew his sixth card, and then set a monster.
"I'll set this, and end my turn," Dimitri muttered as a horizontal card appeared in front of him.
"That wouldn't happen to be Dark Resonator, would it?" Des asked, his eyes narrowing on Dimitri questionably. Dimitri didn't answer, his eyes avoding Des' own as he awaited an answer. When none came, Des smirked slyly and continued on, "It's a simple monster to beat, you only need to attack it twice in the same turn. You of all people know that."
"And with how fast you manage to summon your Crystal Beasts, I'm sure that won't be a problem for you," Dimitri replied, as if admitting defeat already. It was this statement that made Des' smirk break out into an open mouth laugh.
"HAA!!! You think I'm using my Crystal Beasts for this little duel?!"
Dimitri's eyebrows raised.
"I'm going to break you with your own deck!" Des announced menacingly.
"You-you can't!" Dimitri excalaimed, as he began to shake all over. His deck was filled with immense evil and hatred, and if someone as pure as Des were to be corrupted by it, Dimitri would never be able to forgive himself. "Des, don't tell me-"
"I activate Dark World Dealings!" Des began, playing his magic card that would force the two duelists to draw and then discard one card. Dimitri knew now, there was no doubting this; Des was using his Dark World deck against him. Still reluctant to move, and poised against this entire duel, Dimitri drew a card from his deck and discarded his Stygian Street Patrol. Des drew as well, and discarded what Dimitri identified as Snoww, Unlight of the Dark World. Dimitri's worst fear was realized when Des announced his intention.
"I discard Snoww to my graveyard, and when she is removed, I'm able to move the Gates of the Dark World to my hand! And now I'll activate it!"
It didn't take long for the familiar silver gates to rise up now, only this time they were behind Des. Dimitri stared at them in horror. Those were the gates that entrapped him so long ago, the very same gates that somehow managed to encase his memory within them as well. Those gates were encompassed with pure evil.
"Guess who I'm discarding?!" Des asked defiantly.
"No-please!"
"Grapha, Dragon Lord of the Dark World!" Des exclaimed as he practically threw the card to the grave, banishing his Snoww in the process as he now aimed for Dimitri's set monster. "Now Grapha, use your Divine Dark Smite and destroy his monster!"
Dimitri braced himself as his Necro Gardna was flipped face-up and destroyed.
"Do you really take me for that much of an amateur?!" Des asked angrily. Dimitri didn't answer, as his set monster hadn't been Dark Resonator, but instead, a monster he could've played in attack mode. "Or are you just holding back?! No matter, I'll just have to remind you how destructive this card can really get! I summon the Fabled Raven!"
In front of Des, Fabled Raven rose forward, its power growing from the boost of the Gates of the Dark World.
"And then I discard Beiige and Goldd!" Des announced, removing 2 cards but consequently reviving them both. Dimitri took a step backward as he watched the Vanguard and Wu-Lord of the Dark World stand strong and tall before him. Combined with the boost of the Dark World, Dimitri knew firsthand just how powerful these creatures were. Des raised his hand, and Beiige disappeared, returning to his hand as per the special ability of the Dark World lord, Grapha.
"I revive my monster!" Des shouted as his Beiige was replaced with Grapha, his dark wings blanketing the field.
"I-I remove from my grave!" Dimitri quickly declared, as his Necro Gardna appeared momentarily to halt the first attack Des would make, but that hardly stopped him.
"Now, attack!" Des shouted, his voice a sadistic tone of malice and hatre. Fabled Raven's attack was halted by Gardna, but the following attacks Dimitri had no way of stopping. Goldd struck at Dimitri first (8000 -> 5400), followed by a monster he once revered as a god, Grapha (5400 -> 2400). Dimitri fell to his knees, but he supposed feeling this anguish was necessary in order to redeem himself. But there was no redemption, only more pain and suffering as he looked up to see Des had not yet ended his turn.
"Now, I synch together Goldd and Fabled Raven!" Des announced as his two monsters levitated into the air, their bodies glowing as they began to sync together.
"A nine star? Des-NO!" Dimitri suddenly shouted as a horrible realization dawned on him. He knew Des' deck was artificial, and that his Dark World deck wasn't real, but he never imagined that he could incorporate such a terrible card into it.
"I synchro summon Blec, Traitor To The Dark World!" Des shouted as none other than the duel spirit of Dimitri appeared now in the center of the field, staring down at his human counterpart.
"No-not that card!" Dimitri stared forward, wide-eyed.
"You should know this card pretty well," Des announced with a smirk. "Considering you gave it life! Now, as per Blec's cost, I banish one card during my end phase. See ya later, Dark Necrofear! How ironic, that your duel spirit would betray your favorite card. Now make your move!"
"Des, you don't understand what you've done-""I said make your move!" Des shouted angrily.
"That card...fine..." Dimitri submited. Drawing his own card, he stared down at Blec and looked over at Des afterward. If he was going to talk any sense into him, he needed to buy time. "I summon Tour Guide to the Underworld! And with her, I'll summon Scarm, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss! Since Tour Guide negates-"
"I know what it does!" Des replied. "I've only ever watched you play it a hundred times. Now summon your Fortune Tune so we can get on with this!"
Dimitri grimaced, but he had no choice. "I XYZ summon Fortune Tune by overlaying Tour Guide and Scarm! I also activate Swords of Revealing Light and set one card face down. Back to you, old friend..."
"Don't you call me that!" Des declared. "Now let me show you how this Dark World deck is REALLY played! I summon my own Dark Resonator!"
Before Des, Dark Resonator rose, floating beside Grapha. Dimitri knew all too well what was going to happen next. "I synch Grapha and Dark Resonator to summon Star Eater!"
Dark Resonator and Grapha conjoined together in a flash of light, revealing a long and massive dragon as the result.
"But it doesn't end there! Because I'm using your beloved Dark World to discard Beiige, and banish Goldd from my graveyard. Let me know if I'm doing this right, okay? Because I'm reviving Beiige now and returning him to my hand to bring back Grapha!"
Dimitri's eyes widened as he was forced to stare down his Dark World God, his evil Duel Spirit counterpart, and a legendary invincible dragon.
"I can see the fear in your eyes," Des announced with a cruel smirk. "So how about a change of scenery, eh? I activate the Seal of Orichalcos!"
"NO!" Dimitri screamed as Des played the evil boundary card in conjunction with Dimitri's evil Dark World monsters.
"An evil seal for an evil deck, makes sense, doesn't it?" Des asked as the Seal of Orichalcos appeared on his forehead, as well as on the foreheads of his monsters. "That's enough for one turn, don't you think? That's one turn down for your little swords, and I'll banish Scarr from my hand to keep Blec on the field."
Dimitri stared at Des for a few moments, not recognizing his old partner anymore. He had been too warped by darkness and evil, but Dimitri was guilty of the same crime. But he wouldn't let Des be as corrupted as he became. He would make the most of his deck and build up his defenses, buying more time so that he could talk some sense into him. His life points grew to 2900 as his turn began.
"Now, I activate my set card!" Dimitri announced, flipping up Dark Smog. "With Dark Smog, I'll discard my Goldd in order to banish your Fabled Raven from the graveyard. Then, I'll bring back my Goldd in Defense mode and set a monster. With that, I end my turn..."
"Avoding Blec's kill-all effect, huh? He destroys all of your monsters in Attack mode in exchange for a Dark World monster tribute. Makes sense, who knows how much damage you've done by taking advantage of Dark World monster spirits for the passed 5,000 years. But no matter, because I'm activating Dark Word Dealings!
Des:Hot Dragon / Star Eater / Grapha- Activates another Dark World dealings. Draws and discards Grapha. Dimitri draws and discards Lucent. Summons Lucent and activates its ability to sp. summon another Grapha. Des destroys Swords of Revealing Light. Summons Beiige and returns it to summon a second Grapha.- Hot dragon destroys Lucent.- Grapha destroys Grapha.- Grapha destroys Goldd.- Star Eater attacks and forces Fortune Tune to remove 1 XYZ. (3)
