LMK SEASON 5 SPOILERS

I attempted to use Google translate to translate the trailer, but I was fighting it the entire time, and I know it’s shit but anything is better than nothing!

I find it a bit weird that LMK almost always shows Ao Lie in his dragon form. Sure, dragons are cool, but him being Tripitaka's horse is pretty much the first thing people learn about him.

But Ao Lie has been shown as horse what? Three times? Twice, if you don't count the horse Mei from 'A Hero is Born'. The dragon form on the other hand has gotten two animated appearances and is present in most of depictions of the Pilgrims. Heck! We have even seen Ao Lie's human form more than his horse one. And that didn't appear until halfway of season 4!

So, I'm taking this as an implication that in the shows canon, Ao Lie couldn’t transform into a horse for most of the Journey. And if that is the case, his horse form is most likely "just" one of the 72 transformations.

Meaning the only person who could have taught him how to do it, is Wukong.

Just an observation here but why is that the only people we’ve seen on lmk turn into a full out demon are in the past? I’m talking about Ao Lie and Kui Mulang. They turned into fully physical beings. Everyone else has a spirit demon form that hangs over their shoulders.

Jing yuan likes open mouth kisses, slow lazy morning kisses, kisses shared as he tends to his garden- afterall you are not school children. It's fun to tease him with little pecks and keeping your mouth closed even as he tries to squish your cheeks into compliance 

Jiaoqiu likes open kisses, i firmly believe that it is a foxian trait to want to just either lovingly bite or lovingly try and lick the inside of your mouth so open mouth kisses are commonplace 

Speaking of foxians this goes the same for feixiao! I think she'd be the type to run up, grab your face and kiss you silly…hehe feixiao working out and when she completes pushups, sit ups, pull ups, crunches etc she gets a kiss. Great motivation. 

Another one- tingyun likes open mouth playful kisses. The way she frames it is like she's somehow tricking you into giving her a kiss, her tail swishing back and forth 

Yukong open mouth kisses where you share a nice morning tea before you are both off to work. There is also the times when you decide to be sweet, bring her a lunch she forgot and leaving her with a sweet kiss, very domestic (i love her your honor)

Argenti likes open mouth kisses because of romance. Loves sweeping you up into his arms to kiss you with passion befitting the beauty he sees and feels when near you. However there is a good contender to closed mouth kisses because of the kisses he places on your hands 

IL dan heng. Something something dragon, something something but for real there is something about his vidyadhara form and the residual energy of his past incarnation makes him feel more possessive and also more territorial. So open mouth kisses it is for him in this form 

Serval likes open mouth kisses idk i feel it in my bones 

Kafka is another one whos all fore the open mouth kisses but she will tease you about it 

Jade also likes them, they feel more mature in a way and it just fits more with her vibe 

Lingsha is another vidyidhara who i think has some innate desire to stake a little claim over you with slightly smothering you in sweet open mouth kisses 

Herta if she has time for it has a preference for open mouth kisses 

Sparkle has a preference for open mouth kisses ina playful way

Blackswan likes to take things slow and remember each kiss 

Himeko loves open mouth kisses but they often have the aftertaste of her coffee so she has accidentally ruined your taste buds because she's pavlov dogged you

Dr ratio likes open mouth kisses either to shut you up- hehe or because despite common consensus he is a deeply passionate man when it comes to his pursuit of knowledge and yes- his pursuit of you.

Sanpo likes closed mouth kisses because they are quick payment and because he can tease you. Oh you need to leave to go somewhere? So sorry that will cost 5 smoocharos plus tax 

Boothill likes closed mouth kisses because you can pepper his face with them all over and he loves that sweet sweet domestic bliss of being held and smooched (he bites tho be warned) 

Rappa likes closed mouth kisses but they are no less explosive! Theta re better for leaving special ninja seals on you tho (kiss marks) 

Hanya likes sweet kisses in passing 

Sushang lowkey shy kisses 

Same with peela 

Firefly loves kisses of all kinds but is pretty shy to make a first move so it often ends in a cute peck on the cheek or lips if she builds up the courage 

Ruan mei is quite busy and there is a part of her that does not know how to feel about the fuzzy feeling in her chest when you exchange kisses and affection. So for now she will prefer closed mouth kisses 

Sunday (i know this is who you are looking for teehee) now before joining up with the astral express i think the preference is out of a sense of propriety, the chaste kisses he shares with you are always longer than strictly necessary because they bite back a longing for more. Yet even after he grows bolder, joins the crew and is more healthy, he continues the sweet kisses. Except now they last longer, sweetened by soft words and smiles. When he pulls back and gazes down at you he goes back in for another kiss. What was once strained restraint he felt stifled him, has turned into a sweet indulgence, a moment that feels tender not tense. 

Robin also prefers closed mouth kisses. She likes kissing the tip of your nose and both cheeks before she leaves. 

Acheron kisses you a lot because she forgets if he has kissed you that day. 

Aventurine prefers closed mouth kisses because they feel more special. Just the two of you able to share a sweet moment that is exactly that, just a sweet moment. Being able to pull you into a small kiss, pressing his lips against your cheek is definitely a highlight. 

Jingliu closed mouth kiss enjoyer because the mara™  flares up if she kisses you too long 

Blade for similar ish reasons except he doesn't stop if the mara ™ gets crazy (wink wink) I think blade like when you kiss his fingers, he's lost a lot of feeling in them, they don't work like they used to and yet you still love them the same as the rest of him. 

Fu Xuan and I have no reason for this other than as a time saver. She isn't the lazy general, ok she has things to do. 

Loucha who kisses the inside of your wrists and the junction where your jaw meets your neck. Who kisses the top of your head sweetly when gifting you paper flowers 

Topaz who includes you in the kisses when she kisses all of her pets + you. All of you get a lil kiss

For any Ne Zha 2 fans and especially Oubing fans, may I recommend: Shangmei Oubing

Oubing (Ne Zha x Ao Bing) is probably the biggest ship in China right now. I'm sure we can all understand why. Soulmates, red blue, enemies to lovers, friends to lovers, angst, hurt, comfort, THE WHOLE PACKAGE DEAL.

Oubing is generally a very sweet, vanilla and heartwarming ship. For those of us that like the darker stuff, though, I have something for you: 上美藕饼, or Shangmei Oubing.

What TF is a Shangmei? Shang-mei is an abbreviation for Shanghai Animation Studio, a company that made many beloved animated childhood films in the 60s-90s. They made the most iconic Ne Zha film, which is the 1979 Ne Zha Nao Hai (Ne Zha Conquers the Sea).

In the 1979 version, Ne Zha and Ao Bing are definitely not friends. Ne Zha plucks out Ao Bing's tendons and skins and kills him, and Ao Bing eats children. Ao Bing 1979 is also kind of really ugly (his dragon form is really pretty though!)

This doesn't exactly seem like ship material right? You're correct.

BUT!

Shanghai released a short promotional video to celebrate a collaboration. The promotional video featured Ne Zha and Ao Bing from the 1979 version. In the video, Ne Zha didn't kill Ao Bing. No. In this video, Ne Zha and Ao Bing have a bit of a... scary dynamic.

You can probably find the video on Douyin or XHS, but in it, Ao Bing appears in a familiar-looking red wheelchair. He looks very different from his 1979 design- he looks more human, and he's in a half-dragon half-human form. Generally much prettier than his 1979 design.

Throughout the video, he wears a slightly terrified and miserable expression on his face. His phone screen is a selfie with him and Ne Zha in which he's smiling VERY awkwardly. Ne Zha, in fact, has opened up a seafood shop for the two of them.

Probably the biggest thing is that Ne Zha in this promotional video calls Ao Bing "Bingbing". Ao Bing also calls Ne Zha "Zhazha." So cute, right? Seems normal?

Well, in Ao Bing's phone screen saver, the selfie with him and Ne Zha involves him sitting on the wheelchair, smiling a pained smile. Ne Zha is hovering over his shoulder, smiling a very THREATENING smile.

Oh, and the wheelchair? The wheelchair isn't a wheelchair. It's Ne Zha's flying red sash, the Huntianling. Remember this sash obeys Ne Zha's will.

You can interpret this two ways.

Ao Bing has had a change of heart but is a little depressed because he's disabled now. He and Ne Zha are just good friends, and Ne Zha is taking care of him while also keeping a close eye on him to make sure he's not doing anything bad.

2. The popular interpretation.

Ne Zha, out of trauma (remember his dad is a huge asshole and he had to commit suicide very, very painfully) has formed an inappropriate attachment to Ao Bing, who is terrified out of his mind of Ne Zha, but is essentially prisoner because he can't even walk and is trapped within the red sash at all times.

Ne Zha forces Ao Bing to call him by a cutesy nickname, pretend that he loves Ne Zha, and essentially is speedrunning Stockholm Syndrome.

VERY toxic and very dark. Remember that Shangmei's Ao Bing is not a good innocent baby dragon- he eats children. Ne Zha is a protagonist who believes in justice, but he's also a kid who's been through a LOT of trauma and has never had a good family, whereas Ao Bing grew up cherished and loved.

For Ne Zha, this twisted love may be all he knows. For Ao Bing, he's terrified out of his mind, but knows he "deserves" this treatment- doomed to play happy family with his enemy, the enemy that crippled him.

I am NGL, I kind of like this dynamic. Being part of a big fandom is so satisfying. Whenever I'm full on sweet happy Oubing content I can switch to dark Shangmei Oubing content.

Shangmei Oubing is now one of the most popular ships in Ne Zha fandom. It's second only to regular Oubing. People also ship Ne Zha and Ao Bing in the 2021 New Gods Reborn movie: that ship is also really yummy. Oubing in general is yummy.

The dynamic I've seen the most often is as follows, with minor alterations depending on the specific fanwork:

After beating Ao Bing's ass, Ne Zha leaves him alive, but the rest of the myth and story proceed as usual (for the actual myth, see my Ne Zha post linked here). After Ne Zha commits suicide and is reborn in a body made of lotus roots, he ascends to godhood.

Ne Zha, traumatised and brimming with hate for his "father" Li Jing, searches for any source of love and affection he can find. He settles on Ao Bing, his old enemy- the little white dragon who was once so arrogant. He doesn't know exactly why: half jealousy that someone as evil as Ao Bing can have a better family than him, and half a desire for revenge since Ao Bing's death was what led him to have to commit suicide.

He kidnaps Ao Bing and keeps him captive on the red sash wheelchair. Ao Bing's father can't help him- he's already lost to Ne Zha multiple times, so Ao Bing can only resign himself to being Ne Zha's plaything.

Ne Zha, seeking love in any way he can get it, essentially begins to play house with Ao Bing- pretending they're best friends, calling each other cute nicknames (in some versions forcing Ao Bing to share a bed with him) and generally being very affectionate.

Ao Bing, terrified of Ne Zha, goes along and essentially lives a life of misery.

Ne Zha technically treats Ao Bing very well if he doesn't misbehave. If he does, however, well then...Ne Zha sometimes tortures Ao Bing emotionally (his trauma has made him ruthless and somewhat cruel) and humiliates him by making him crawl, since Ao Bing is now crippled. When Ao Bing cries or gets upset, Ne Zha tells him it's his penance for eating children.

Mpreg is a common tag, but more commonly it's Ao Bing finding some way to either commit suicide or he goes completely insane after years of living in fear. Ne Zha panics after seeing Ao Bing break down, and realises he's come to truly care for Ao Bing.

Toxicity adds flavour, everyone. Shangmei Oubing is actually so delicious.

I'll also share my own thoughts about it: I know the whole "Harbinger" thing doesn't mean that he brings chaos, but the connection between that kind of energy and MK for me it always has been "cool, he is a SYMBOL of chaos" like, he's a big ass chaos flag that, once born, has been flying screaming at everyone "HEY YALL! IT'S CHAOS TIME SOON!". Like, the chaos that is coming is literally the primordial chaos that will come once the cycle end because from it must start a new one. But it would make sense that, since there seems to be a whole ass society of people in the chaos realm, that he would at the very least be one of them, like when you are sending someone from your country as an ambassador to give a message

And when they met again after years, they weren't happy but it was more healthy just because they weren't holding back their thoughts as much. True, it was mostly negative but honestly is nice. But!! And then, the Scroll of Memory took you.

MK

: ̗̀➛ “NO!” He screams without thinking, running toward you. But the glow of the Scroll of Memory keeps him from reaching you.

: ̗̀➛ His heart pounds in his chest, his breath erratic. This can’t be happening. You can’t be leaving.

: ̗̀➛ He falls to his knees where you stood, his hands trembling. Your smile still shines in his mind, and it destroys him.

: ̗̀➛ “She’s coming back, right?” He asks no one in particular. The silence he receives in response makes his stomach twist.

: ̗̀➛ MK wants to be strong, to be the hero that everyone needs. But how can he, when he just lost someone so important?

: ̗̀➛ He looks at Wukong, hoping the wise monkey will have an answer. But all he sees is an empty stare. That makes everything feel even worse.

: ̗̀➛He clenches his fists, eyes burning with determination. If no one knows how to bring you back… then he will find out.

: ̗̀➛ Because you believed in him. You saw him as more than just Wukong’s successor.

: ̗̀➛ And he won’t let you down now.

Mei

: ̗̀➛ “Wait, wait—NO!” Mei runs to the spot where you disappeared, her heart pounding out of rhythm.

: ̗̀➛ Her head spins. This doesn’t make sense. You were always by their side. You were strong. You weren’t supposed to be the one who vanished.

: ̗̀➛ “This can’t be real…” Her voice comes out weak, barely audible. A lump forms in her throat, rage and sadness blending in a way she can’t process.

: ̗̀➛ You smiled at them. You knew what was going to happen, and yet, you smiled. As if you wanted them to be okay.

: ̗̀➛ But how can she be okay without you? How can she just accept this?

: ̗̀➛ Mei feels her eyes burn, but she doesn’t let the tears fall. Not now. You wouldn’t approve.

: ̗̀➛ “I’m not letting it end like this” she whispers, tightening her grip around the Dragon Blade.

: ̗̀➛ If there’s a way to bring you back, she will find it. And if there isn’t… then she will create one.

Pigsy

: ̗̀➛ The shock hits him like a punch to the chest. He freezes, unable to believe what just happened.

: ̗̀➛ “She… she’s gone?” His voice wavers, as if saying it out loud would make it too real.

: ̗̀➛ You were always reliable. Strong. Part of the family. How is he supposed to just accept that you disappeared like this?

: ̗̀➛ He clenches his fists, feeling a strange weight in his chest. He wants to say something, but nothing feels right.

: ̗̀➛ “This wasn’t supposed to happen” he mutters, anger mixing with sorrow.

: ̗̀➛ He wants to blame someone. Wukong, Azure Lion, even fate itself. But the truth is, that wouldn’t change anything.

: ̗̀➛ He thinks about the meals he cooked for you, the moments he laughed at something you said. It all feels so distant now.

: ̗̀➛ “She’s coming back” he states, as if saying it will make it true.

Sandy

: ̗̀➛ Sandy doesn’t speak. Not because he feels nothing, but because he feels too much to put into words.

: ̗̀➛ He just stares at the spot where you were last seen, holding little Mo close to his chest. The cat senses his pain and meows softly.

: ̗̀➛ Your smile lingers in his mind—gentle, warm… and now unbearably cruel.

: ̗̀➛ “I should have done more.” Guilt consumes him. He wanted to protect you. He should have protected you.

: ̗̀➛ But he can’t turn back time. He can’t undo what happened. He can only deal with what’s left.

: ̗̀➛ He takes a deep breath, trying to stay calm. He can’t break down now.

: ̗̀➛ But deep inside, something in him shatters. Because the world feels so much emptier without you in it.

: ̗̀➛ He places a hand on MK’s shoulder, offering silent comfort. He knows the boy needs it.

: ̗̀➛ But he himself isn’t sure if he’ll ever truly recover from this.

Macaque

: ̗̀➛ He knew. From the moment he felt the energy around you shift, he knew what was about to happen.

: ̗̀➛ “No.” The word comes out almost as a growl as he moves toward you. But it's already too late.

: ̗̀➛ The glow of the Scroll of Memory envelops you, and the last thing he sees is your smile—soft, reassuring, almost as if you were asking him not to worry.

: ̗̀➛ How could he not worry?! How could he just accept this?!

: ̗̀➛ His fingers close around empty air where you stood seconds ago. The silence that follows is deafening.

: ̗̀➛ Rage and despair collide inside him. He wants to blame Wukong. He wants to blame Azure Lion. He wants to blame anyone. But deep down, all he feels is an overwhelming emptiness.

: ̗̀➛ “You idiot…” He mutters, his voice breaking slightly. “Why do you always throw yourself into danger?”

: ̗̀➛ But he knows the answer. He always has. You care. You care more than you should.

: ̗̀➛ He turns to Wukong, his eyes blazing with fury. “Tell me you have a plan. Tell me this wasn’t for nothing.”

: ̗̀➛ Because if there’s even the smallest chance of bringing you back… then Macaque won’t rest until it happens.

Wukong

: ̗̀➛ He sees the attack unfold as if time itself is dragging—slow, cruel, inevitable. His body moves before his mind can catch up, but he doesn’t make it in time.

: ̗̀➛ “No!” The scream tears from his throat, but it’s useless. The glow of the Scroll of Memory has already wrapped around you, and he sees you smile.

: ̗̀➛ A gentle smile. A smile that tells him not to worry. To move forward.

: ̗̀➛ But he can’t. He won’t.

: ̗̀➛ For the second time in his life, he feels that same crushing sensation. The same one he felt centuries ago, when he failed. When he lost.

: ̗̀➛ His hand reaches out, almost touching the light that takes you away, but all it finds is emptiness.

: ̗̀➛ He stands frozen for a moment, breathing heavily. His eyes are wide, his chest rising and falling in erratic bursts.

: ̗̀➛ "No, no, no… not you " He repeats under his breath, as if saying it enough times could undo what just happened.

: ̗̀➛ His fists tremble. His tail lashes uncontrollably. His teeth clench, his expression shifting from shock to pure fury.

: ̗̀➛ “Azure Lion…” The name leaves his lips in a low, dangerous growl.

: ̗̀➛ He turns to MK, to the others, but he can’t bring himself to speak. Because he feels it. He knows.

: ̗̀➛ You’re gone.

: ̗̀➛ And he couldn’t stop it.

: ̗̀➛ "I… I’ll bring you back." He murmurs, almost to himself.

: ̗̀➛ Because it doesn’t matter what it takes. It doesn’t matter how many enemies he has to fight—he will find you.

: ̗̀➛ He has to find you.

Your smile was left behind, but the promise wasn’t.

They will find you.

And this time, they won’t let you disappear.
