Preview to Goku Jr and Gohan Jr: Nightmares.
It was a late beautiful night on Mount Paozu. Or a version of it in the reality of Conton City. The home of the Time Patrol. Peaceful and quiet as there was a moment of peace for the Time Patrol. Overall not many things that the Time Patrol couldn't handle at the time. Luckily, things were peaceful, and after the whole fiasco with the Red Ribbon Army, various members of the Time Patrol, specifically the more experienced members, we're hoping it would stay that way for a little bit.
This would include our main version of Goku and Chi-Chi who are currently staying at one of their sons’ new house for the time being to help keep an eye on two additions to the Son Family. Son Gohan Jr, nicknamed Hano, a perfect clone of Gohan that was found by the son they were staying with, Son Kakarot Goku Jr. And adopted by him as well. And Son Ryu, a clone of Goten created by the Dragon Balls by a wish made by the four-year-old Demi Saiyan, who wanted a little brother.
It was a peaceful night for the most part. Except for one little Demi Saiyan who was tossing and turning in his sleep. Eventually the young child woke up screaming. Slowly getting out of bed before rushing out of his room and towards the master bedroom. There were a few energy signatures in the hous which the boy was easily able to sense and recognize but follow the one that he was more familiar with.
The boy ran past the closest room to his, the guest room, where Goku and Chi-Chi were staying for the week. Instead running to the master bedroom down the hall. Carefully opening the door to not wake up and alarm anyone. He was scared. But he knew that he could run up to the Saiyan sleeping on the master bed, no problem. With the door opened enough for the small Demi Saiyan child to enter the room, he was seen climbing onto the bed. Reaching a Saiyan that looked completely identical to Goku for the most part. However this Saiyan was well aware of the child as he slowly mumbled, opening his tired eyes. But the Saiyan’s response wasn't of a cold hearted warrior. Rather an act a parent would take with a child.
This turned out to be Son Kakarot Goku Jr. A clone of Goku, created through the Dragon Balls, and Goku and Chi-Chi’s adopted son. And the young boy's father. The first time father was easily able to tell something was wrong. “What's wrong, Hano?” the tired Saiyan asked the boy. A tired tone of compassion heard from his voice.
“I had a nightmare, Papa,” the Boy explained and Goku Jr could feel the boy was startled. Not just from his voice but also his fluffed-up tail. Not to mention the boy was shaking to no end so it was easy to tell that he was scared.
Goku Jr sat up on his bed while he let out a yawn. He had to think of an idea to make Hano feel a little safer. Luckily, he had a few ideas that he knew would work. Thanks to his parents raising him, mainly. He figured it would be a good time to check up on Hano’s little brother too, while he was at it. Little Ryu was most likely sleeping in the crib in his room. However, there was a smaller crib in the main living room in case he needed to take a nap during the day.
“Tell ya what,” he calmly and gently told his son. “If you let me go check up on your little brother, we can make a pillow fort for the three of us, and I can tell you a bedtime story.”
Hano’s eyes brightened from what his father said. “Really!?” he said with excitement and Goku Jr could see the boy’s tail wagging a bit. The young father couldn’t help but smile at this.
“Yep!” The father said, calmly getting up as he continued. “I just need to get things set up so that we can make the little fort.” his smile was still there when he saw his little saiyan ‘pup’ so to speak, smile. “Just make sure you try not to wake Grandma and Grandpa up, okay?”
“Kay!” Little Gohan Jr said, hopping off the bed and running to his room to grab pillows and blankets.
Goku Jr couldn't help but smile. Now fully up, The saiyan stretched, while his tail swayed around as he walked out of the room. He observes his son, carrying whatever he could to the living room, smiling before he slowly walks past the room his parents were staying in, since the door was open. He took a peek into the room to check on his parents. Goku Sr and Chi-Chi were clearly still sleeping. Goku Jr smiled a bit, knowing his parents could use a bit of rest. He wanted them to be able to be grandparents and not parents.
Afterwards he went to the room that was right next to it. The way it was set up, is clearly the room of a baby. Walking inside, the younger Goku couldn't help but smile, walking towards the crib where little Ryu was sleeping. The baby Demi Saiyan looked so peaceful in his sleep. He looked like a baby Goten. The Goku style hair, the absence of a tail, the childlike innocent face. “Still peacefully sleeping, I see,” the Young Father softly said. His smile brightened a little bit more as this happened. “My little Fighter. My little Son Ryu. Just like your older brother, my pride and joy.”
It was at that moment little Ryu sniffled a bit, slowly waking up. Not from Goku Jr’s voice. But something was normal for babies. Goku Jr paid attention to everything around him. He couldn't smell anything so he knew he didn't need to change Ryu’s diaper. So it was either a nightmare or he was hungry. Before Ryu could start throwing a little tantrum. The Saiyan Prince of Fire Mountain, slowly and gently picked up the little Demi Saiyan. And he couldn't help but smile at hearing his little son giggling from this. “pa..pa,” Ryu said in a tired tone. Light giggles as well were heard afterwards.
Goku Jr couldn't help but smile even more. In many ways this was what he truly wanted one day. He didn't think it would even happen, let alone the way it did. These two indirectly gave him one of his dreams. Fatherhood. “That's right, kiddo,” the younger Goku softly cooed to his child. “Big strong Papa's here. And I always will be. My little prince of Fire Mountain and Mount Paozu. You'll always be safe as long as I'm here.”
Part of him knew that really was too young to truly understand him, but that didn't matter to him. Knowing that review felt safe just by the little child's body language alone was more than enough for him to say those things. Part of him knew it was more so the comforting approach he took, similar to how his mother approached things with him when he was scared. He remembered a few instances when he was a child himself, she used to sing him the lullaby he was all too familiar with. Hearing her sing it always made him feel safe. Something he also noticed with his boys as well when he sang the lullaby.
Ryu was surprisingly intelligent for his age too. Seemingly able to give some level of communication aside from words and tantrums. A light tug on Goku Jr.'s clothing was more than enough to get the father's attention. And when Ryu could tell that he had it. Giving a little hand gesture towards his mouth, clearly telling his father that he was hungry. Goku Jr could easily tell what he was saying.
“Hungry bud?” Goku Jr asked, seeing his little fighter nod. “Let's get you fed then buddy,” he told him with a smile before slowly heading to the kitchen as he carried Ryu. The younger Demi Saiyan clinging on to his father, giggling a bit as this happened. Unfortunately, there wasn't much Goku Jr could do with Ryu with his cries or giggles, aside from soothing the tension the young boy could be feeling. Which wouldn't really do him any good at the moment. If his parents woke up, they would now fully believe that it would be their young grandson who caused it.

Turles seems like exactly the kind of dramatic hoe that would catch Frieza off guard with an explosive "screw you" message before disappearing into the depths of space 😂

POV: an alien that looks uncannily like your dad offers to teach you about your Saiyan heritage (definitely not sus)
Heavily inspired by the Odin scene in God of War: Ragnarok!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I see a lot of Gohan & Turles interpretations as like Turles being an evil (and lonely) Saiyan and Gohan trying to find some way to outsmart him buuuuut I prefer to think of Turles as a cunning bastard that would lull Gohan into a false sense of security.
Maybe years of being repressed and told what to do by every adult figure in his life made him feel like Turles could be his route for freedom. Like, dude literally explores the galaxy and does whatever he wants.
Ofc, Gohan isn't naive enough to just get kidnapped. Turles tosses him a scouter and tells Gohan to call if he wants to talk, and Turles would secretly come to visit.
Then eventually when Picc finds out...all hell breaks loose and Gohan (panicking) willingly hops into Turles's ship and they take off.
Even then Turles doesn't tie Gohan down. He offers to send him back whenever he wants, even shows him where the emergency eject pods are. Turles knows damn well Gohan's curiosity is too great for him to make the smarter decision not to engage (like GoW Atreus)
Tldr Turles is a textbook groomer 💀

Question for the crowds:
Which two characters from differing fandoms, would either:
Absolutely fucking hate each other, murder the moment they meet,
Or
Be the most amazing, hand-in-hand, absolutely best friends in the whole fucking world,
Depending on the fandoms differing versions of them (Canon vs Fanon).
State your answers in the reblogs or comments.

I'll be honest y'all and I might catch some heat for this, please understand that I'm not trying to rain on any parades (just speaking my opinion), but I'm personally not into the heavy "saiyans are cats" tropes that fans do with them.
I don't mind and I even support light ideas like their tail languages being similar to cats and them being able to purr / make sounds that sound like purring, but LITERALLY making them act like nekos / cat people? That's where I draw the line.
It just feels....cliche, a lot of the time. And overall boring, because Saiyans aren't cats or cat people. They're aliens first and foremost, then ape-like entities second. Putting them into the cat box feels like an injustice to their concept, imo.
(And don't get me started on the blatant "human-washing" canon itself has done to them; that rant deserves its own post...)

Conversation
Canon vs Fanon 3
Fanon Chloe: I had hoped that she and I would become at least a little similar, that she would at least improve a tiny bit.
Zuko: Don't feel bad. There was nothing anyone could have done. It's like my uncle once said, there are some things you can't change.
Vegeta: Agreed. There's no sense dwelling on it. What's done cannot be undone.
Ebenezer Scrooge: And besides, child, even if this "canon" you is stuck the way she is, you don't have to be. Your future can be anything your "fan-fiction" writers decide.
Fanon Chloe: Thanks, you guys.

Hot take (granted it’s about a show almost 40 years old but I’ve never seen this come up anywhere else): Muten Roshi, the Kame Sen’nin, is one of the most traumatized characters in Dragon Ball.
Tumblr media
Yes. This dork.
Wait, wait, hear me out, I know his reputation, but bear with me...
I’m essentially expanding on thoughts I’ve had for a while and started putting into to words through an ask for @dragonballwish but I had another epiphany on the subject a few days ago and now it’s all boiling over.
All right, everyone knows Roshi is the OG Dragon Ball sensei character, the one in the memes about perverted old men, who people probably like to laugh at but maybe not talk about at length. I’m not going to list instances of the sort of behavior that gave him this reputation, IYKYK and all, but what if Roshi had a reason for living isolated in the middle of the ocean, away from people, interacting more with animals and sea creatures than other human beings, who in all likelihood will die long before he does?
No, I’m not accusing Toriyama of doing anything other than his usual MO of flying by the seat of his pants, I’m just saying, the pieces are there for a pretty compelling narrative/character arc.
Roshi’s vague about his personal history. When Dragon Ball gets rolling with the Wuxia elements of the story, he’s iffy about taking on pupils; he primarily makes the initial offer to Goku because he’s Gohan’s grandson. He only takes on Kuririn after the boys bring Lunch back to Kame House for... let’s call it companionship. Despite his choice to live alone, one could infer that he’s actually truly lonely. Hell, his goofy perversions could easily be the result of extended isolation, which all of us know does weird things to the mind.
Wish actually brought up this point; his isolation likely started after seeing the results of his teachings in Ox-King and Son Gohan, one a pillager, a murderer and a hoarder of treasure, the other thankfully not violent but uninterested in interacting much with the world (seems like Gohan also had his own sad story.)
He takes great pains to keep Kuririn and Goku from getting swelled egos; perhaps not only for the sake of their growth, but so as to avoid the mistakes he made with his previous pupils, Son Gohan and Ox-King.
He’s unfazed by most forms of threat to his life; Goku’s Ozaru form startles him, sure, yet he refuses to kill his student despite clearly being capable of doing so and chooses a far more drastic alternative instead. The Red Ribbon army showing up at his house only get taunts, a chuckle and a beating until someone takes Lunch hostage. Even then, he discourages her more violent persona from killing the soldier who threatened her; his appreciation for the sanctity of life could be part of his own disciplines, but it’s just as likely something shaped by his experiences.
He drops out of the 22nd Tenkaichi Budokai, despite hints that he could’ve gone to the finals again if he’d continued; he plants seeds of altruism in Tien’s mind to sway him away from Shen’s violence and in his words, foster the growth of a new hero.
We only learn anything of substance about Roshi’s past when 22nd Budokai arc ends and kicks off the start of the Piccolo Daimao saga.
And it’s here that we see Roshi well and truly rattled for the first time.
Roshi fought Piccolo Daimao alongside Mutaito and his fellow students; the battle cost him the lives of his friends and his master. Worst still, Shen, the only other martial artist shown to have survived the fight and the Kuririn to Roshi’s Goku, turned bitter; the last friendship Roshi had became so sour and resentful that neither of them could stand each other.
When the time comes for Roshi, Tien and Chaozu to confront Piccolo, the old hermit refuses to let anyone else face him; for all he’s lived through, he wouldn’t survive fighting another doomed battle alongside friends.
Toriyama doesn’t show or explain anything else about Roshi’s past, but we can infer that, at some point in the intervening years before Goku’s story begins, Roshi established his reputation as the Kame Sen’nin, while Shen did the same as the Tsuru Sen’nin.
In contrast to Shen, who garnered his reputation alongside his brother for taking the technique and skills he learned from Mutaito and twisting them for the purposes of torture, pain and assassination, Roshi must have gone to lengths to heal, at least somewhat, from the trauma and survivor’s guilt and grow stronger. Personally, I think to assuage his guilt, he would’ve traveled and helped people (maybe ‘twas in this time when he met and grappled with Korin) as something of a... hero.
I know it might feel like a stretch to see him that way, and I suspect he doesn’t feel much of a hero himself despite the somewhat flashy façade he puts on as Jackie Chun. But consider this fact:
There was a time when Roshi could ride Kinto’un.
We don’t see it, nor is it explicitly stated (that I can remember) but both Roshi and Turtle are surprised when he falls through the magic cloud instead of landing on it when he passes Kinto’un on to Goku. So something that happened between his Master’s demise and the start of the story we’re shown that robbed his purity of heart, at least by Kinto’un’s definition.
Again, was this traumatized survivor narrative what Toriyama intended for Roshi? Probably not.
I’m just saying, all the pieces are there.

You ever think about how King Vegeta may have been trying to keep Frieza from destroying the planet by exiling Broly (going by Dragon Ball Super: Broly’s retelling)?
For all he knew the Legendary Super Saiyan was just a “freak of nature”; they didn’t have much evidence aside from the weird readings they got when Broly was a baby
As much as I hate King Vegeta (and he doesn’t really give much of a reason not to), he has, unfortunately, shown that he has some sense of self-preservation (whether it’s borne of cowardice or not, it’s a bit hard to say, though it’s usually portrayed as such.)
Evidence (to my knowledge):
1. (DBS: Broly) King Vegeta considered Prince Vegeta IV his pride and joy, cared for him immensely, and wanted to raise him to become strong enough to revolt against Frieza (Note that he never specified that he wanted Prince Vegeta to become the Legendary Super Saiyan.)
2. (DBS: i forget which episode/movie specifically don’t kill me lol) King Vegeta regularly met with Beerus. He had a connection to a GOD OF DESTRUCTION. AND he did his best to try and comply with whatever ridiculous demand Beerus made, like finding the softest pillow in the universe (despite Champa cheating.) I think it’s even been hinted that King Vegeta has made REPEATED ATTEMPTS on Beerus’s life/Beerus joking that he would try to intentionally poison his food. So it’s clear Beerus knows King Vegeta holds some serious contempt towards him.
Long story short, King Vegeta’s a complex character with a ton of flaws but it’s interesting to really dissect his story and motives etc.
Feel free to add to this with your own thoughts/evidence/observations/theories etc. lol I wanna hear what y’all have to say :D
