Chapter 19 is up!
The numbering changed slightly because chapter 1 is now the title page, so I beg your pardon for that.
The fight was brutal, but the having two Grey Wardens and a mage on their side seemed to boost moral enough that it went far better than anyone had anticipated. In the end, all the villagers survived the night and, when dawn broke over the lake, a cheer went up from its people.
***
The pyre that morning was the smallest they’d had to make since the attacks began, Murdoch told them, and he thanked the visitors for their help. They went to the steps of the chantry where Teagan met them and presented them with breakfast.

I don't hate Isolde. There's something so realistic and very human about her.
She caused what happened in Redcliffe. All over not wanting her reputation to be sullied. That's horrible.
But honestly she was prolly a pampered person. Like she probably had no REAL grasp on what it actually MEANT for Connor to not receive proper training.
In my playthrough I let Jowan use her to get Morrigan to the fade. And she immediately agreed.
There's just something very human about it I guess. Realizing that you fucked up bad and being willing to sacrifice everything to fix it.
Prolly a cold ass take but here we are.

you know how after redcliffe if you don’t save both Connor and Isolde, there’s a cutscene where you see archers setting fire to the boats/corpses of those being put to rest on Lake Calenhad?
I’ve decided that Naoise took it upon himself to see through his decision to sacrifice Isolde til the end; he was the one who agreed to let her die. He was the one who allowed the ritual. He was the one who chose to save her son instead of her.
He has to be the one to nock that arrow and pull it back. He bought this bow. He bought Connor’s life in blood. He’s letting it go and the flaming arrow is singing before it lights the boat of the arl’s wife. Maybe he knew the sacrifice she was making for her son. Maybe, as it burns, it is his way of saying goodbye to his own mother.

All mages are beacons that attract the attention of Fade spirits. Because of this, they are trained and tested by the Circle to ensure that they can withstand attacks from malevolent Fade creatures that seek entry into the waking world. Untrained Connor drew the attention of a powerful demon that tore the Veil asunder. He was freed from the demon's power at a terrible price: the cost of his mother's life.

Isolde Guerrin owns actually. She fed information to the Fereldan resistance during the Orlesian occupation. She tried to save her son from being taken by the Circle, and so far as we know the only reason her plan failed is Loghain planted an assassin in her home. She volunteers to give her life for her kid without a moment's hesitation, she doesn't give a fuck that it's blood magic, she just wants to save him. If you insist Connor has to die, she pleads for his life in a voice performance that deserves awards, and if she's convinced that there's no hope for Connor, she insists on doing the deed herself.

reading the stolen throne and trying to like maric is tough when you know in like 10 years he’s going to father a bastard and promptly ignore existence of said bastard, allowing him to be bullied and forced into servitude and used as a political pawn bc eamon and isolde are fucking awful. like maybe there’s more context I’m missing and will learn from reading the books but I’m finding it difficult to get past that so far! you dishonoured your wife already bro that ship has sailed! can we maybe make sure the child isn’t so traumatised it will later have a circle mage and a literal child slave saying uhhhh you good buddy?? anything you wanna talk about?

an alistair drabble
Calian's body was still strung up on the bridge, rotten and filthy, and it hurt to see it there, but Alistair expected to see something left of Duncan.  Even if it was also something rotten and decaying, even if it meant stomping through the moss-spattered bloody mud and crunching over the former Grey Warden's bones until he stumbled upon something recognizable.  Like this sword.
But Duncan was gone.
He'd died here, or somewhere nearby--this was the field where Alistair left him.  Above the pattering rain, he heard a dull, rumbling roar of noise.  It was so familiar to the ringing in his ears all those years ago when Isolde hit him.  Alistair didn't realize the noise was his own wailing, or that he'd started sobbing as soon as he clutched the sword.  His companions stood far away in the freezing rain, silent as he mourned all that was left.
it's very short, like a ten minute read, but it's something

Quick I can't be bothered to make the post myself so just imagine one of those web weaves. Something something Catelyn Stark something something Isolde Guerrin. Protecting the boy protecting the crown protecting your political interests at the cost of your wife. Foreign woman in her husband's court, wielding what power she has. Something something just wanting nothing more than for her son, her baby boy to be okay. "I want you to leave." "Tell me you wouldn't move mountains to save him." Not knowing what to do but hate the boy your husband brought home, hate everything he represents, joy at seeing him lost to some order that will surely spell his death or at least just keep him away from you. All these political games and for what, your family is ripped apart! Anyway. Thinking thoughts I love women who hate their fake bastard sons and the absolute earth shattering will to do WHATEVER it takes to keep your family whole. Don't even get me started on bran and Connor. What did your mother die for, and how? What will you see one day, little mage?
