Haleth is a veil jumper and was a dalish hunter before she joined them. So, she is adept with a bow and with daggers, though she prefers the bow the most.

13: What are their thoughts on killing? Is it a necessary evil or do they enjoy it?

Being a hunter who has to regularly kill game for food, she regards killing as a necessity most of the time. She used to offer a prayer to Andruil as she performed the coup de grâce on game. But that has since turned to a simple prayer of gratitude and apology to the animal she has hunted. With the enemies they are facing, she feels the most conflicted when it is Venatori or the Antaam because she still considers them to be people misled by their leaders. It's a complicated mess when she thinks about it. This leads to long nights of philosophical discussions with Lucanis, since he is the most likely person to relate to her dilemma.

14: What hobbies does your Rook have?

She loves to sing. She doesn't have the typical sweet voice of singers but there is a grounded beauty to her voice that manages to make both Lucanis and Spite calm down. And ever since Harding started turning her room into a literal green house, Haleth has made it her life's goal to find her all the rare plants she can find!

15: What NPCs do they like? Which one's do they dislike?

Haleth is Strife's pet, even if he would rather die than accept that! She also gets pretty close to Teia and Viago. Teia is already making plans for her marriage into House Dellamorte, much to Lucanis' embarrasment. She is also the president of "Antoine-&-Evka forever" fanclub that currently has Bellara, Manfred and herself as members. Davrin has categorically refused to take part in their meetings ever since she had asked him to whittle her favorite warden couple north of the Vimmark mountains in what he deems to be "an absolutely ridiculous pose".

As for NPCs she dislikes... well, let's just say she doesn't exactly love Mythal as they find her in the cross roads. She is also a little miffed that her genuine attempts at empathising with the woman ended up with her getting her small clothes in a twist and turning into a freaking dragon to fight her.

THIS IS WHY HE DOESN'T VISIT YOU, MYTHAL!

She does respect Morrigan though... She thinks Morrigan makes Mythal likeable.

5. What was life like for Rook before joining the Veilguard?

odessa's life was kind of . in the shit . considering she flunked her chance at becoming a full-fledged crow that she was banking on [she couldn't let it happen , though . the people were more important . but she does have regrets] , and she was kicked out of the only home she's ever had even if it hurt her more than nurtured her , so she was just kind of coasting . she was by herself which would've also been causing harm to her , as she's never done well all on her lonesome . most of it was disassociation , if you asked her what she was doing , all she'd bring up was varric recruiting her - solely because she cant really remember .

7. Why does Rook agree to join the Veilguard?

for something to give her purpose , and to prove herself . she needed to see for herself that she Can do something , and do it well , without fucking it up . and maybe she was hoping viago would somehow see , and allow her back home . the good thing about joining the veilguard was that she was present , and in the moment , instead of vaguely hovering . we dont talk about how it basically backfired - thats haunting her every step to the point she's refusing to sleep .

20. What’s it like to see them smile? Their laugh?

odessa's smile is cute ; its more of a smirk , a raise of the corner than a smile , but enough that her front teeth show . its something that hasnt really changed since she was little , and her laugh lines are much more noticeable with a smile . she snorts more than she laughs , and its more of a cackle , and its really easy to make her laugh . she loooves jokes , even making her own no matter how terrible they are .

22. Most embarrassing memory as a teenager:

truly she has many to choose from ; most of which were witnessed by viago . one she claims was the most embarrassing was her falling from one of the ziplines into the canal . which was also when viago realized she never learnt how to swim and had to fish her out of there himself . and also when he realized she didnt know how to use the ziplines . that was certainly a time for both of them . and totally not in the presence of many other fledgelings . some that definitely let her forget [they dont let her forget ; heir lets her know shes not the only one who has done it , though]

31. What specialization does Rook pursue? What called them to it?

duelist ! she's been trained more with daggers most of her life , she knows how to dodge , how to avoid , and how to hit Hard . she couldn't see herself being anything but what a crow Should Be . its been ingrained into her . she loves being a duelist , to be honest . is it because she's been read stories abt dashing , mysterious and troubled rogues ? and now she is one ? Maybe So . she will never admit it , though . [yes she will . she has multiple times . shes a bad liar]

39. What is their room at The Lighthouse like?

its very eclectic - which fits her . theres an antivan coffee maker that she bought at the cafe , theres a lute she's trying to remember how to play when she's not so tired , theres sketches of wings on her walls , and a plant in a terrarium on one of her small tables , maybe because she was thinking of lace when she bought it , and how she'd like to grow plants someday . the floor is messy , various articles of belts and holders scattered about . she has a hard time staying in the room , as she doesnt want to sleep , but she tries to spend as much time , so that the fish dont get lonely . shes named them all , too , and gets stressed thinking about how they're fed with glass up to the ceiling and no fish-food designated spot . she thinks solas cruel , for that .

What was the first Dragon Age game you played?

It was Dragon Age: Origins, back in mid-2010. DA:O was also the first video game I played by myself - my husband (then boyfriend) introduced me to gaming and Bioware. Hilariously I played it on my Mac, that pinnacle of gaming hardware - the colours were all strange, and there were a host of other issues but I didn't know any better at the time and thought it was all great. It was only when he built me a proper gaming pc that I was able to appreciate what the game could actually look like - and I finally got to figure out why you could ask the dog to clean you up after a battle - the Mac couldn't render blood splatter on armor so I had no idea that was a thing, and was super confused at that dialogue interaction on the first playthrough!

6. Do you have your Rook(s) planned out to any degree? If so, would you share some details or ideas you have?

Overall it's very nebulous at the moment, I must admit. I do have some solid name ideas, but it will depend on what race I decide to play, and if 'Rook' is a surname or a nickname. Looks like it's the former I think? I haven't decided on an origin yet.

Class-wise, the first go around will probably be a mage - I'm pretty certain of that as it's my favourite in most games. Rogue was fun in DA:I, so that is a possibility too at some point.

8. What faction are you most excited to learn more about?

I am always interested in our old friends the Grey Wardens and the Antivan Crows, but in terms of the 'newer' factions, probably the Mourn Watch in Nevarra intrigues me the most so far.

I have the DA: Tevinter Nights book coming soon - and have dug out my DA Encyclopaedia books too - so looking forward to getting that and learning more.

Which did you leave behind (Abyss)?: Thankfully in my personal canon world state Alistair is king so I left behind Stroud- but I will say that I ACCIDENTALLY left Hawke the last time I played and she says “I’m sorry, Anders” as she fights the big spider and it broke my heart and I teared up lol. Needless to say I immediately reloaded the game.

Favorite achievement: I’m guessing this is for the unlock-able game achievements and I’m going to go with “The Ultimate Sacrifice” simply because I HAVE that achievement and yet I DID NOT actually do the ultimate sacrifice so I’m not sure how that happened so it’s the only impressive one I’ve got 😂

Bonus question! 78. What are you hoping for from DA4: I’m hoping DAD has like 10 fully fleshed out romanceable characters so I can hyperfixate on just one LI that I will romance on every single PT and treat the game like a gory romance simulator (like I do for all of them) :3

I think Tyslinn would be pretty torn between Leliana and her sister. But, I think she feels Lel needs her more than her sister does. Her sister sort of made it, it's not that she doesn't need Tys anymore it's just they're in such different spheres it's hard to connect like they used to. Leliana and Tys have been through so much together and apart, she desperately wants to get back to her. To find a way to grow old together <3

Prefacing this really quick, I didn't stick Hehet in the fade b/c I think she is so so so attached to her friends lol. My girlie is simply not that girlie that appeared in inquisition. Her willingness to jump into stupid danger is unparalleled but, stupid death? Stupid stuck in the fade 10 years? no. Also the characterization? Crazy period.

Preface over, she loves her widdle brubber so much. The last thing she wants is to step on his toes anymore than she already does but she can't help it. He's the last blood family she has (other than. her uncle. I. guess.) so she goes and helps the wardens rebuild. She wants to help the cause in whatever little way she can in hopes that it helps him in some way. She loves Isabela and Varric so much, but they're both self sufficient little guys and she is NEVER going to see Carver as such -he hates it. she hates it too. She can't help it. I think if he learned that he was the most important person to her, he'd puke.

Hey? hello? Is this thing on? Solas. Jesus Christ. This is so embarrassing um. (I hate that egg). But it's true. Burim is so a little bit in love with all his friends but Solas was the first person that he felt a connection with in the inquisition. They became weird little besties in a way that they never really conveyed to other people. It was this mutual respect that was elevated a lot higher and stranger than either of them really... cared to acknowledge? Burim's best friend is Dorian. The love of his life is Bull. But I think narratively, Solas is so important and. unfortunately. Character wise. for my sweet sweet leetle mage.... He was as Solas so deeply important to Burim and then as Fen'Harel regrettably deeply important to the Inquisitor.

16. do they get sentimental about their weapons or armour?

Tyslinn takes incredible care of her amor and weapons. She maintains them religiously. Sentimentality wise, she still has a small knife that she stole when she was little. It was her first weapon, she never uses it now (she's a much heavier hitter and a little sloppy with knives nowadays) but it's a reminder of where she came from.

Hehet displays some of the family armor in the estate, but she feels weird wearing them herself. Like she hasn't earned them. She's. She's got some stuff to work out as always.

Burim tries to do his Vitaar the way his mom taught him every time. He's gotten pretty good at mimicing her technique! It's a subtle vitaar, only on the forehead and higher cheeks, but it works :)

12. What's one thing you're hoping we DON'T see in this next game?

Hm... I don't really know for sure? I don't have a ton of expectations or hopes for where the story goes. I do hope that there's not going to be a sort of... 'the elves were the bad guys all along' sort of vibe to the story, if that makes sense? I also really hope the maps will be a lot more trimmed down and more driven towards the game objectives. I'm not a HUGE fan of giant, search in any direction open world games. They tend to get overwhelming for me quite quickly -- things like BOTW become really hard for me to finish for that reason. From what I've understood when it comes to game discussions so far, it looks like we won't have that? So I'm hopeful.

16. What's one crack theory you subscribe to (yours or someone else's)?

Hmmm... I don't know! I don't think any of them are really that much of a crack theory vs just plausible theories based on lore we've already learned in-game. For example, I really enjoy Bunabi's theorizing about Dumat!

19. Are you planning to replay any of the previous games, watch Dragon Age: Absolution, or read any of the books/comics/short stories, or are there other games you want to play in the meantime?

I'm currently playing a new run of Inquisition, ahaha! I think I started it the same day the DA4 gameplay trailer dropped. I do think I'll take a mosey through some of the short stories too during the wait.

I find it really funny that the last two Dragon Age games have advisors to guide them through the game. Like the Hero of Fereldan got a brief introduction and a slap on the ass before being immediately placed in charge.

:D ! 7- if they had to choose one person most important to them, who would that be?

for denaris - the easiest answer is cyrion . dude just loves and trusts his dad so much , its not easy Not choosing him . cyrion has been there his whole life ! ! ! he's had so much support from cyrion for nikolas - honestly ? bethany . their relationship may not be what it once was , there may be so much more strain , but that's still his baby sister . he made a vow he'd protect her ; he wont ever break it on purpose . for arcen - i think , despite everything , he'd pick dorian . yes , he and sethe are siblings and had known each other his whole life , but their relationship is a finicky one . neither of them go to one another unless they absolutely think its necessary . dorian's one of the few people of his inner circle that treated him like he was a person , and Not just the inquisitor . dorian is so important to arcen ; you rarely see one without the other .

19- are they afraid of death?

denaris - no , he's not afraid of it . being a grey warden is a death sentence , and he's quite used to those . what he Is afraid of is what would happen to his family once he dies . nikky - yes , even if he's brushed against it after the arishok fight went poorly . he's afraid of what comes after , what it feels like , if he comes back or if he's doomed to the darkness for the rest of eternity . he's confided in fenris so many times about how afraid he was when he was recovering , he's so afraid of it . arcen - it depends . he's afraid of dying out in the field , in tevinter , in minrathous , away from family . he isnt afraid of dying of old age , or illness that he cant control . it depends on the type of death , truthfully . he would be afraid of dying like his mother did ; in childbirth , not ever meeting his and dorian's child , and thinking if he'd damned them to the fate he had with his mother . but he doesnt let that fear consume him .

25- what did they plan for their life to look like before the events of the game happened?

denaris i think didnt have a plan ; he was 20 years old when origins starts , i think just having his birthday a few months prior . he never thought that far ahead , he thought his life was over years ago . so he was drifting at that point . nikky had a simple plan ; get his family out of public eyes , onto a secluded land , and live there away from hunters and templars and anything that could harm him . in hindsight he thinks it was a foolish plan , but it was the only one he ever had . he never planned for love , in any case . arcen's only plan was to make sure his clan was safe , and maybe plant his roots of family and success inside the clan . and also learn more , just about the world in general . i dont think he'd have much of a plan , truthfully . maybe a plan of when he'd become the keeper like his grandmother , just not a carbon copy of her .

Do you have lore for your inquisitor that deviates from the assigned background that they automatically give you? I always love hearing about inquisitor backgrounds!

I do and it's because I am dramatic as shit, and I will ALWAYS cause issues for my characters if I can, ilysm, thank y'all for indulging me

So first of all I fuckin can't decide on a name for my Adaar, and honestly that might be fitting for her character in a way bc she has identity issues out her asshole. I'm stuck between the base "Hera"(yes I removed the h, idgaf) or Nyx, as those were both the names i used when I was doing my playthroughs.

She absolutely grew up in the Qun, and was likely to become a Tamassran once she reached the proper age, except her magic manifested while she was quite young (10). Unfortunately for Adaar, she's branded a Saarebas and quickly measured for a collar.

It was with the help and insistence of the Tamassran who raised her that she was able to escape Par Vollen and avoid the shackled and miserable servitude of a Saarebas. Hidden amidst a small group of fellow dissenters, this group of Tal Vashoth fled to Orlais and essentially became a "family" in the way a Qunari would understand it.

Her band merged with the Valo-kas mercenaries, and from there she was raised as a battle mage, favoring electricity and essentially powers that would be refined into those of a Knight-Enchanter once she became Inquisitor.

Adaar always believed magic should be free, as the barbaric practices of the Qun on mages is why she fled in the first place. She is, however, not ignorant, and fully aware of the dangers magic poses.

And maybe that's why she's in fact not ignorant, but fucking stupid as she revels in the protection and subsequent power her magic grants her and her band.

This post is getting long, so I apologize and am gonna wrap it up quickly since this is just a rundown backstory, but!!

Basically there is an accident during a mission that results in her murdering the ever living SHIT out of her not only every living soul in the encampment a-la-thunderbolts and lightning, but also unintentionally frying her own fellow mercenaries that had accompanied her, one of which being the senior Saarebas who had trained her growing up.

This event traumatizes her, and leads her to flee the scene in simultaneous shame and terror. She seeks out an encampment of Ben-Hassrath agents to essentially be "re-educated", claiming to be Vashoth and having seen the light.

She had only been a Saarebas for roughly 9 months before the Conclave. While Adaar didn't fully understand the nuances of the Qun, her desire to simply empty her mind and not think of the damage she had done helped. The Ben-Hassrath agents appreciated her obedience and her power, and she was tasked with helping to hunt down other Tal-Vashoth.

Then the events of the Conclave happened and her memories were lost, and the Anchor gained. Still, she couldn't quite bring herself to remove the Saarebas mask and collar for a reason she couldn't quite place. The Control rod, recovered from the ruins of the Temple of Sacred Ashes, is fashioned into the hilt of her Knight-Enchanter blade. A key that she refuses to use.

The Saarebas mask is simultaneously a prison of her old life, and a shield for her new life as the Herald of Andraste.

It's only after the attack on Haven that any of her Inner Circle truly sees her actual face, and that's as she's dying in the snow from frostbite.
