I know I bitch a lot about the genshin impact school of character designs, but I know why they're so nothing. Rigging each model is expensive and time consuming, so using the same basic body shape is easier and allows for different characters to be released and animated at the speed that a gacha game demands. THAT SAID, I wish more games did what Dragalia Lost did, which is have a basic shape for all characters but have it a very simple chibi design, so even though they all have the same rigs you can get a lot of diversity out of it.

Like, the same model could be used for thin military ladies, curvy valley girls, or short blacksmith women:

But also, similar character archetypes had enough variation. For example, 'buff, dark-skinned man':

These guys are all long-haired katana users from the same region of the world. But you can tell which one is the soft-hearted clan leader, which one is his dutiful retainer, and which one is the dancer.

(okay I know Valentine's Addis is a bow unit, but shhh he still knows how to use a katana) And even the weird, pale nerd characters!

All varying levels of 'unhinged', but you can tell which one is the nobleman and detective who is overall a chill dude, which one is the shady weapons maker, and which one studies dark magic with no regard for his personal safety.

And these are both young, blonde, unhappy-looking girls:

...but one is a normal girl with a nervous disposition while the other is troubled by darker, otherworldly things. Don't get me wrong, DL has made some character design choices that I hate. For example, letting male characters be old but having the two female characters over 50 have magical reasons for being young again.

One of these women has halted her aging through magic, the other has a reason so stupid for looking this way that made me want to stop playing completely.

The same event also told us that this beautiful man (introduced in an event half a year prior) was killed off screen, never to be playable, so yeah, it was really a low point in the game's lifespan if you ask me.
