My thoughts on my Day 5's drawings

Day 5 & 6 original post: 🌸

Man, Day 5 and 6 hit me in the feels a little bit too hard, that quote killed me

And meanwhile the Day 5 speedpaint is exporting, i'm going to write some of my thoughts on the individual illustrations that i did for this day.

First of all i wanted to draw every UU character that appeared in this arc at least once.

Have you seen Chikara's school?! it's so fucking big! There's no way Feng was the only P.E. teacher there, i have been in very small schools and they had at least 2. So i wanted to draw some of my ocs, that even though they aren't really average in terms of physical power, just seeing the absolute insanity that is Feng. I tried to make the illusion of a movement so fast, that Chikara's camera couldn't catch it without some blurring, like in Dr. Stone when Kohaku's movement always comes out blurry bcs she's that fast. (from left to right, the short version of the ocs' names are: Mari, Petra, Addler Xia and Lud)

2. i just wanted an excuse to draw Fuuko and Gina with my two most wholesome, nature-loving ocs (An and Marcel), Gina was meant to appear in this one and a ninth drawing, but Gina's presence just wasn't there, i looked at my sketch and thought "this is not Gina, she's not here"

3. UU science couple with my ocs' science team (left to right: Are {i hate his name, i need to change it}, Paula, Saulo and Todd), i feel that i didn't do justice to Nico and Ichico looking very ghostly with that skin color, i had to wing it based on the colored pages, also i felt that i was disrespecting both of them with that robot, but i still finished it, i'm in too deep to back down.

4. it's impossible that Sean didn't goof around some clubs, he's an actor, he had visited the music and drama club at least once, so i just put my most music related ocs in the place of the teachers in charge of them, Christi would have really loved to goof around.

5. I didn't know what to do with Billy, but i imagined that at least some teachers and students would have a crush for him, so i just put Mari for that role, Tella definetly used Untell on her so she can't get near Billy.

6. Grandpa Isshin! i originally wanted to draw both Isshins in the context of a school daycare, Grandpa Isshin and some teachers that have kids, picking their respective kids. But i wanted the spotlight on these two, so i scraped the idea. There was a point were i was overthinking Grandpa Isshin's eyebrows and how it reminded me of my late Grandpa's eyebrows, almost cried at that one.

7. Same as Feng but with Mui, also made Xia come back after she fainted with Feng, i felt incredibly cursed by Shen's presence in my canvas, after seeing the things i saw in my TL on twitter, i couldn't see Shen without thinking about it, so in the speedpaint there's a section where i put my refences and the characters specific colors from the anime, except for Shen, i stopped the recording bcs i felt cursed to have the anime reference in my canvas)

8. Drama club! also Chikara is here, maybe acting will help him with his Unmove, this one has the cursed unshaded eyes in the speedpaint, everytime i looked at their eyes i remembered @tadpolebobatea, once the speedpaint is ready i will curse all of you with the unshaded eyes.

Bio: Leuitentnat Irak is an ambitious, sycophantic Leuitentnat in the Fire Nation Military, Under the Command of Admiral Zhao

Appearance: Young, Handsome, Light Brown hair, with a Standard Fire Nation Uniform.

Voice Actor: Charlie Addler.

Personality: Sneaky, Treacherous, Sycophantic, Arrogant, Cowardly, Impulsive and Devious.

Family: None.

Friends: Admiral Zhao, General Shanko.

Enemies: Zuko, Iroh, Leuitnant Jee, Kita, Dipper Pines, Mark Testaburger, Mac Gunsling, Dib Membrane, Jack the Fox, Vana Glama, Dr. Eggman, Aang, Sokka, Kitara, Shyu.

Bio: General Shanko is a General in the Fire Nation Military under the Command of Admiral Zhao, He is quite and unimaginative and follows Zhao's orders without question.

Appearance: Custom Made Fire Nation Uniform.

Age: 34

Voice Actor: Corey Feldman.

Personality: Alert, Resalute, Dutiful and Unquestioning,

Family: None.

Friends: Admiral Zhao, Leuitant Irak.

Enemies: Zuko, Iroh, Leuitnant Jee, Kita, Dipper Pines, Mark Testaburger, Mac Gunsling, Dib Membrane, Jack the Fox, Vana Glama, Dr. Eggman, Aang, Sokka, Kitara, Shyu.

Not that he’d intended to spend the night doing paperwork, but Henrik really had nothing better to do with his time. He wasn’t behind on anything, but this was a good time for him to get a leg up on work. It was better than actually going to the hospital and risk having to be put to work. He was lucky he hadn’t been called in yet!

No one else was home right now, which meant Henrik could enjoy the peace and quiet as well. These moments were rare, since Chase and Marvin had a tendency to start some sort of messy chaos in the home, and even worse, when they dragged everyone else into their mess as well. This time, however, Marvin was out on a date, and Chase was spending the next couple of days watching his children while Stacy was out of town. Of course, Jackie was out at work, and Jameson hadn’t shown up at all.. Henrik had free reign to roam the entire household uninterrupted, and already he was taking advantage of this by lounging in the kitchen, with the entire pot of coffee being used as his mug.

The paperwork did little to hold his interest as his thoughts began wandering -- turning toward more bittersweet memories. In moments of solitude such as this, Henrik couldn’t help but think about better times spent with Elisabeth. He hated her now, but he had loved her once, when he’d been younger and more naive, happier. 

Life back then had felt like a fairy tale. 

He wondered what she was up to now, if karma would ever strike out against her. It didn’t seem likely, it had been too long since their painful divorce, too long since she’d run off with literally everything that had given him happiness. Their children. The thoughts of his children had his stomach churning painfully, dropping his pen and clenching his hands into fists. They didn’t even remember him, he was sure of it. Elisabeth encouraged them to call their step father ‘daddy’. He wasn’t allowed to talk to them. Henrik wasn’t allowed.....

His cellphone buzzing snapped him out of his thoughts, causing him to spasm, nearly tipping the contents of the pot all over his paperwork. He reached for the phone, thinking it was one of the others calling to check up on him.

Elisabeth.

Why the hell was she calling, now of all times? What did she even want? With a grimace on his face, he pulled the phone to his ear to see what the she-devil wanted this time.

“This is Henrik,” he said stiffly.

“...daddy?”

His breath caught in his throat. Could he even speak at this point? This was definitely not Elisabeth’s voice. This was the voice of a young child. No, his child! 

“A-Anna?” His voice was a whisper, not trusting himself to speak any louder. “Anna, is that you, mein Kind?”

“Ja!” Annaliese sounded excited. “Daddy, Momma’s asleep right now so I borrowed her phone and found your number. I hope this is okay.”

Tears went ignored as Henrik sat up straight, gripping the edge of the table. “Of course! You sound so...so big! Are you well? How’s your brother?”

“Addler’s okay. We’re both okay. I can’t talk long but I want you to know I miss you. I wish I could see you, but Momma keeps saying no.”

“She is...she’s a.....” Henrik wanted to tell Anna her mother was a good woman, but the words seemed stuck in his throat. He couldn’t force them out, and Anna didn’t need to hear how much her parents loathed each other. “She is trying her best,” he settled for instead. “Your momma is confused, but she’s trying.”

“I wanna see you instead!” There was a spark of that girl he once knew ages ago. This was too painful; Henrik could practically see her in her pigtails right now, and a cute little jumper. How old was she now? Anna had to be around nine, now. Right?

“I am sorry,” Henrik said sadly. “I don’t have any control over that right now. Your momma has her reasons. We don’t have to agree with them, but they are hers.” He wished he had more say over when he could see his own children! He knew he wasn’t a bad person, and Anna seemed to remember this as well.

“I love you daddy.” Anna sounded sad. “I dunno when I can do this again, but--” there was something in the background, it sounded like someone talking. Henrik could hear some muffled noises, and Anna yelling back at someone. He waited patiently, not ready to let the call end. I need more time with my daughter, please if any gods can hear me-

The line went dead a second later, and with a heavy heart, Henrik realized she must’ve had to go before risk getting caught making a long distance phone call. Still, she had called him.

That alone was more than enough to lift his spirits. Screw Elisabeth and her rules, she obviously didn’t have that much control anymore if Anna was willing to break a rule! 

Henrik set his phone carefully down, unwilling to force the bright smile off his face. He couldn’t stop crying, either.

Free Tuition, Say Whaaat?

Our group started the day as usual, with our breakfast routine at the Hilton Hotel. We sat together and discussed the day’s meetings. Our first meeting was with Mr. Balaz Denes, the Executive Director of the Civil Liberties Union for Europe. We learned that this organization is registered in Germany but is not considered a German organization. It was registered in 2017 and only staffs 6 people here in Berlin. The organization’s goals are to give advice on advocacy and be an independent workshop for the European Union.

After our meeting, we went for lunch at the Little Green Rabbit – an organic, salad-oriented restaurant. After lunch, the group split up to complete souvenir shopping trips.

Later that evening, we met again for a meeting with Dr. Jeffrey Peck. This was our last official meeting for the trip in which we learned a lot of interesting information about Germany and the United States. Dr. Peck particularly enjoys fundraising for nonprofits. He says, “It’s not about the money, it’s about doing something wonderful” and he’s learned that fundraising techniques vary in different areas of the world. He also believes that “you have to spend money to make money” in the fundraising world.

We also learned a lot about the higher-education system in Germany from Dr. Peck. For example, German students typically do not have to pay for their tuition. While this may sound glamorous to us Americans, it turns out that’s not so true. Dr. Peck gave insight on how our higher education system benefits our students. One example is that our professors give us more of their time and attention than professors in Germany. What this means is that we can create friendships and bonds with our professors on a more personal level. Whereas, in Germany the students are expected to learn the material and take the tests and that’s it – there is no time or effort put into making connections and networking.

The phrase “you get what you pay for” fits this comparison regarding free tuition. Other benefits American students take advantage of are smaller class sizes, renovated buildings/classrooms, better programs and a more generalized appreciation for education. Dr. Peck mentioned how, in his experience, American students are much more prepared when they come to class. Whereas, German students aren’t prepared at all or don’t even attend class. It is speculated that there is no appreciation for their education because they’re not paying for it.

Other interesting differences between Germany and the United States is that extracurricular activities are not offered in Germany and German students don’t go through a graduation ceremony because it is expected that everyone will attend college since it is free.

Lastly, we ended the night with a dinner with the dean of the Lilly Family School of Philanthropy, Dr. Amir Pasic. The evening was filled with stories from our trip and lots of laughs. Our group is very grateful that this program was created because it has allowed us to branch out and learn many new things about Germany as well as the United States. We give many thanks to everyone involved!

(Yesterday’s) Thoughts

Keep on forgetting to write these- sigh.

It was a beautiful day yesterday in Virginia. 70 degrees. I went to DHS, helped the kids with tech day, went out with Tori and Dennis to Difficult Run Park, and had dinner with my family. Overall it was a great day. I don’t wanna go back to the city. I fucking hate it there.

I love the forests. I love the quiet. I love that it’s spacious, I feel like I can breathe here. 

I was prescribed Zoloft by Dr. Addler. Back on Zoloft. He says that prescription might change the more he gets to know me though. I counted out the tiny light green pills only to discover that I was only given a 15-day prescription, no refills. Which is okay with me. I don’t feel nearly as anxious as I did when I was in 10th grade, but the anxiety is still there nonetheless. Like I woke up anxious today. 

I feel good. I feel like I haven’t slept in years though. I just want to sleep a lot. But, life moves on. I have to do schoolwork instead. 

Pretty sure I just fucked up that Arabic exam I had on Friday too. Fucking plurals.

Final edit: Did it! They all found new homes! It helped immensely.

I just wish I had more of a platform for art here on Tumblr, because so far all my clients still only come from Twitter, and I don't really wanna be there anymore.
