Some more edits! I can't decide if Virginia is trying to steal Brock or get with both of them, but Jaz is not into it either way.

So I was rewatching Dr. Quymn Medicine Woman and there are so many parallels between Tara and Ginnie and Rusty and Brock. I mean a lot! I also only just noticed in this my thousandth rewatch that Tara and Ginnie share a bed in their cabin. There's the two cabins, one for the twins and one for them and yeah... just one bed. Make that what you will. 🤔😅

"errrrr, butterfingers!" | "it's operation! the wacky doctors game!"
there are lots of references here, check under the cut for what they are!! ^^
brain - the x-3 crashed in his brain, from the diving bell vs the butter glider!
throat - his "diet pills"!
right shoulder - stitches from when his arm was ripped off in victor, echo, november!
right hand - one of his 'doctails'!
left wrist - his communicator watch!
chest - the 'boom' flag from the grenade incident seen in red means stop!
stomach - a monarch butterfly for obvious reasons <3
also stomach - hank and dean's kidneys from dia de los dangerous!
right hip - the dislocated hip he got in bot seeks bot that was set back in the devils grip!
left thigh - red, green, and blue vials from mid-life chrysalis!
right leg - the bug that crawls out of his shoe in dr quymn, medicine woman!
left ankle - most pointless one for last. i needed one to fill the space and this is where a wrench is in the base game skdfhjksdf
i also have deans giraffe (mr reachy) on the side for emotional support!! this set up (the bedsheets, clothes, stickers on his chest etc) are all supposed to mirror how he looks in assisted suicide, bc that ep (+ the diving bell vs the butter glider) were the main inspirations for this piece!! ^^ OH and the money is 'hank co' brand just bc i thought itd be cute lol

So I was thinking about how in season 3 of The Venture Bros., the episode "Dr. Quymn, Medicine Woman" had like 80% of the women in that season. So here's a full alphabetical list of women with speaking roles in that season (* indicates a character from the mentioned episode):
Dermott's Mom
Dr. Ms. The Monarch
Drew (*)
Ginnie (*)
Hunter
Molotov
Nancy (*)
Quymn (*)
Sally
Triana
So not quite 80% of the women that season were in that episode, but still not a small percent.
Disclaimer: I love the fuck out of this show and the writers did get better over the years

The Venture Bros. #34: “Dr. Quymn, Medicine Woman” | July 6, 2008 - 11:30PM | S03E06
This one’s called “not a favorite” by Jackson Publick (also the credited writer), which gives me the freedom to agree with him. I’m not sure it’s the worst episode of the show, but it could be my least favorite episode of my least favorite season, which puts it pretty far down the list. It’s also one of the few episodes of the show that might be considered completely inessential, though the revelation of Jonas Venture as a key-party swinger is fairly important to the series as a whole. It’s also information a viewer could learn from elsewhere in the show.
This one was meant to be an old-fashioned mostly-standalone “doc and the boys go on an actual adventure” episode. The show was becoming more serialized and soap opera-y, so Jackson Publick took it upon himself to try and re-infuse the show with it’s season one roots. So Dr. Venture goes into the jungle to try and Scrooge McDuck a fertility idol from some ornery natives. Rusty is rescued by Dr. Quymn, a little girlfriend he had during childhood. They haven’t seen each other since they were ten, so no, they aren’t Hank and Dean’s mother. I don’t think the show ever confirmed or denied this, but she seems like she could be Jonas Venture Sr.’s secret spawn, making her Rusty’s sister. Nasty.
She probably isn’t, and I should have waited till the end of the write-up before putting that in your head. Anyway, while the two old friends catch up we learn that she has two twin teenage daughters, who are basically female versions of Hank and Dean. They are conventionally attractive, but the show doesn’t really creep on them as bad as it could have. In the commentary track, Jackson describes them as annoying, like season one Hank and Dean. The awkward sexual encounter they have with Dean towards the end is a little squirmy, but not a ten-out-of-ten on the grossometer.
She also has a female Brock. She’s pretty butch, and she definitely prefers women, but briefly flirts with Brock and they meet to have sex at one point. The show basically builds towards everyone trying to bone each other. Dean is the only innocent among them, and his scene is basically an attempted rape by the girls. Doc Hammer charmingly takes umbrage with this in the commentary track. Between him and Publick, he’s much more protective of Dean’s delicate nature. If John K. were sitting in on that commentary track he’d probably call Dean a “retarded fag” and openly perv on the under-aged Jezebels.
There’s a plot about a Wereodile, which is like a werewolf but a crocodile. He’s beaten up by Clyde, an orangutan the Ventures are training to box. That whole element is a parody of Every Which Way But Loose, which is a masterpiece. Nobody fucks, but Hank does get ritualistically circumcised by the indigenous people of the jungle. This hearkens back to a line in season one, “Hank quit bragging about your circumcision.” Since Hank is a clone of that Hank, it can be surmised that 1) this copy of Hank wasn’t circumcised unlike that season one Hank, and 2) Hank is routinely singled out as the alpha male between the two Venture Bros, and often selected for scarring rites of passages.
The Bros. relationship changes over the series, and this episode does deal with their split in personalities and interests head-on. Dean is only interested in adventuring and feels jilted by Hank who just wants to have a sexual antic with the girls. This dynamic is developed over the course of the series, and season three sorta takes the first significant steps towards the place where they end up during the finale. No spoilers!
I’ll note a few other random things, because deep down I just want to be a listicle writer: the episode’s one big laugh from me is when Doc is disgusted to learn that Dr. Quymn is epileptic. The animation for Hank’s bass guitar noodling was actually animated first, and then Doc recorded the exact notes Hank is shown playing, because he wanted it to be accurate. There are a flurry of references in the 60s flashback, but apparently this is the first appearance of Blue Morpho, who figures into the last couple of seasons pretty heavily. How about that! I don’t think it was as much a seed they were planting; Jackson and Doc just had a penchant for designing nameless background characters and then, when it came time to introduce a new guy, just pulling from what already existed in their character design files.
MAIL BAG
the assy mcgee bartender kinda looks like the fella from the red meat comics. huh
Oh, wow. I never did make that connection. I once owned multiple Red Meat t-shirts as a young boy. I wonder what happened to them. Milkman Dan was my favorite, for some reason.
ACAB is bad dude. Look at the riots. It's easy not to care when they torch a Target but what if they did it to your favorite store?
Yeah, you're right :( I like stores!

Possible Venture Siblings
So it’s no secret the Dr Venture Sr was a huge womanizer and took advantage whenever he could (I’m going to make another post going into more detail about his evil deeds). So with the end of season 6, they all but shouted that Jonas was the father of both Rusty and The Monarch, but in a clip where he was talking to the original Blue Morpho about how he ‘knew’ his fertility science was very potent, it only confirmed my theory that Jonas 100% knew he had other children. I mean, he’s not talking about he’s sexual appeal or attractiveness, he’s talking about his ability to get a woman pregnant. So I was rewatching the series and here’s a few candidates I thought of who could be fellow Ventures. I’ll also include so notes/ideas on anyone else in the show who may not be a child by blood (as in have a mommy & daddy) but may be through some science connection (through a dna experiment).
Rusty - ok, so Rusty is the only child Jonas acknowledges as his kid, but my guess is he either A) didn’t want Rusty and only kept him because of the ‘good guy’ image it helped him maintain (how bad would it look if America’s sweetheart just gave away his son so he could keep partying) or B) he’s the result of an experiment.
J.J // RICO - ok so I’m lumpjng these 2 together because they go back to my ‘Rusty is an experiment’ theory. We know from a recent episode that our current Rusty is a clone, but my guess is that Jonas originally wanted to perfect cloning to create a way to live forever or something. A way that once the clone body was big enough (even if it aged in a tank) and then could transfer his current brain to them. Our current Rusty was the latest version, although he didn’t come out as an exact match to his father, JJ himself did (maybe they were fraternal twins with 1 being an exact clone & 1 having the same DNA but taking on recessive traits). For RICO, he’s just an early model of the cloning stage, so he may have the same DNA as Rusty but was not developed into a full human despite having all the building blocks to be one.
Dr. Quymn - The flashback scene shows her mother & Jonas sneaking their keys so they would be partnered up, telling me this wasn’t their 1st time pulling this trick. She does share a lot of the same Venture features, the red hair, lean face & build, genius iq, and although twins do run on the mothers side a high fertility could be a genetic trait passed on from either parent. And yes ew, Rusty kissed his potential sister and the twins basically tried to rape their cousin, but then again it makes sense that the creators ended it there. Aside from the whole ‘Rusty can’t win’ story line, even if they aren’t related. Plus it would also make sense that, going back to the flashback, young Rusty & Tara were innocently going to kiss as kids - Kano, Jonas & her mother could see how they were starting to see how they were growing attracted to each other romantically- and that’s at the same time both Tara and Rusty both mentioned they stopped seeing each other because their lives pulled them away, as in their parents pulled them/sent them as far away on different adventures/schools to make sure they wouldn’t become a couple.
Billy Quizboy - again, it’s all been shouted that his mother was the former hero Triple Threat, as of now Billy is the only one who doesn’t know & shes all but hasn’t said those exact words on screen. As of now we have seen absolutely zero interaction between her and Jonas, even in flashbacks. When he saw her flashback with her control collar, Jonas was not in that scene & she was not aware of say what happened on Gargantua 2, so we (the audience) aren’t sure when she left the groups, what her terms with Jonas were, what her full background was (I mean she could have been a triple agent for OSI, Team Venture & even train Cockese in her younger days for all we know) - and we have zero idea who Billy’s dad is. Then again we have zero idea who any of the offscene parents are, but as close as his mother is, one can assume it’s been just them for a long time. He also shares a few of the Venture traits, the red hair, the genius IQ, it’s hard to say about his body features due to his conditions. But with his mother being so close to Jonas, it does give some actual plausibility that he could be that father.
And yes, not all siblings would need red hair, I mean we don’t know about the mothers so depending on their traits they could dominate over. I mean technically Brock could be a brother since it was noted he was born to a single mother, and he does have a muscular build -> now I doubt he is a Venture son just because even with the muscles he looks nothing like Jonas. But than again if you compare say Dermot to Dean and Hank, I think the only thing they have in common is their nose, and even that can be a stretch.

Tara Quymn (Civilian)
A spirited young girl, Tara Quymn is the daughter of Ms. Quymn and possibly Jonas Venture. She loves to play adventures and visit her friend/“half-brother” Rusty. She has a good sense of equality at a young age, wanting to play both the rescuer and the rescued. She is a neglected child who is scared easily by strange men and has a questionable childhood.
Tumblr media
Dr Quymn (Doctor)
“Oh Rusty do you know how long it’s been?”
Tara Quymn as we know her is a grown woman living in the Amazon trying to find the cure for cancer. She feels neglected as an adult as she did in her childhood and suffers from epilepsy which may be a product of her up bringing. She has fond memories of her first boy crush Rusty but is a mature and grounded woman who sees past the type of person Rusty has grown into easily. She has two daughters who she semi-neglects herself, often seeming annoyed by them but she seems to love them. She may or may not have had a relationship with her body guard Ginny which she found unfulfilling. She hasnt made any appearances to see her step father Col. Gentlemen so we can assume they have a poor relationship.

VINDICATED! I was VERY fascinated with the Dr Quymn Medicine Woman episode in high school for these exact reasons. If Rusty was originally pitched as having a crush on Brock, the bodyguard DEFINITELY has a crush on Quymn. Parallels.
Yassss!! 😁

for anyone interested in starting venture bros and want to follow the guide, i definitely want to mention that you can AND SHOULD skip Dr. Quymn Medicine Woman (S3) and Guess Who’s Coming To State Dinner (S2). Both are the least relevant episodes, both feature inc*st and r*pe jokes, you can skip these and get nothing out of it

redraw of tara...in the show book i remember the creators saying they wish they had done better making her more simple/cartoony in design. i wish they had also done better making her look like a real jungle scientist. i tried to meet in the middle
