Though critics generally read Lucy as a frivolous naif, there is far more to her than the sweetness her beaux enthuse over. (26) Her nerve and intelligence come through in her diary entries and in the remarkably lucid memorandum she pens just before her death, when she realizes the importance of giving "an exact record of what took place" so that "no one may by chance get into any trouble through me" (130). Lucy, like Ibsen's Nora Helmer, is a shrewd performer of naivety. An astute observer of character, she analyzes Dr. Seward, even as she detects him trying to analyze her as if she were one of his patients. Whereas Seward never sees beyond the frivolous femininity that he finds so enchanting, Lucy discerns the nervous personality that underlies Seward's apparent calm. She notes how he fiddles with his lancet and nearly sits on his hat as he works up the nerve to propose marriage to her. Her tears silenced his unwelcome proposal, she gaily reports to Mina, noting how his hands trembled as she wept. She ventriloquizes Quincey Morris's Americanisms, observing that he indulges in them only when he is around her and "there was no one to be shocked" (59).
Lucy is a free spirit. She enjoys using slang and doesn't mind who hears her. Though she's wealthy, she finds fashion "a bore" and dismisses "Town" as "pleasant," with barely a mention of the galleries and parks she visits (56-57). [...]  in her conversations with Dr. Seward, she analyzes the analyst. She has the audacity to admit, not only to Mina but also to her would-be husbands, that she loves a man who has not yet declared his love for her. Though she does not say that she had to "do the proposing" to Arthur Holmwood, her vague description--"all so confused"--of the meeting that settled their marriage allows for that possibility. [...]  I agree that Stoker endows Lucy with a sensuality perhaps offensive to Victorian convention, just as he endows her with intelligence and initiative, but, as I will argue, the novel works on the whole to endorse rather than condemn unconventional traits in women.

The Truth About Chaos Control
“But his most remarkable feat is “Chaos Control.” By tapping into the power of a Chaos Emerald, he can warp space and time, moving freely and dominating the competition. I’m… Still working on replicating the technique.”
-Dr. Ivo “Eggman” Robotnik, Shadow 101: A Brief History of Shadow the Hedgehog
If you know Shadow the Hedgehog, you know Chaos Control, the iconic move that’s associated with him. Eggman’s description says it all, you use a Chaos Emerald to teleport or freeze time.
But do you need a Chaos Emerald?
I’m going to delve into the history of Chaos Control, and really get to the bottom of this, and whether this piece of common knowledge has any weight to it or not.
This document talks about the following entries:
Sonic Adventure 2
Sonic Battle
Sonic Heroes
Shadow the Hedgehog (2005)
Sonic the Hedgehog (2006)
Sonic Rivals
Sonic Rivals 2
Sonic the Hedgehog (IDW Comics) Issue #59
First thing I want to establish is that this limitation was even established in the first place, and not just a recent addition. Fortunately, that’s not very difficult, as we get statements in Sonic Adventure 2, Sonic Heroes, Sonic 06, Sonic Rivals, and his Sonic Channel profile that all claim he uses Chaos Emeralds for Chaos Control.
Tumblr media
Sonic Adventure 2 (US manual), page 7 (the scan just cuts like that, I presume it’s an error on the actual page as well?)
Tumblr media
Sonic Heroes (English manual), page 6
Tumblr media
Sonic Rivals official website (archived) (visual error is likely due to imperfect emulation of the original website)
SA2 even presents warping with an artificial Chaos Emerald as an impressive feat, implying that doing so without one at all is impossible. Only for Shadow to immediately use Chaos Control seconds later in his fight against Sonic (and we know it’s Chaos Control despite him not shouting the phrase as it looks identical when Sonic does it, who does shout Chaos Control as part of teleporting).
So what gives?
Is it maybe a matter of proximity to the Chaos Emeralds? That would line up with the Biolizard using Chaos Control in front of the heroes, Metal Overlord using Chaos Control against Team Super Sonic, or Devil Doom using Chaos Control near Super Shadow, or Metal Sonic using Chaos Control when racing against Shadow.
Except that can’t be the case, as Shadow can use Chaos Control even while on the other side of the Black Comet. Well, maybe the range is surprisingly generous, only needing Shadow to be vaguely a city’s worth of distance away?
It can’t be that either, Shadow can use Chaos Control while in Chaotic Inferno, a whole universe away (and Rouge left behind the 6 Chaos Emeralds), but laments that he cannot escape from this universe without one when the portal closes, despite Metal Sonic’s Chaos Emerald quite literally being right next to him.
Is there any explanation at all? Well, kind of.
In Sonic Battle, almost all of Shadow’s moves are described as using Chaos Control
A list of such moves:
Shadow Dash
S. Teleport
Shadow Guard
Shadow Heal
C. Nightmare
Chaos Upper
Chaos Magic
Air C. Magic
Chaos Burst (implied via Air C. Burst)
Air C. Burst
??? (Shadow)
In story, Shadow’s power to fight is attributed to his Chaos Emerald. But when he surrenders his Chaos Emerald to Emerl, he reassures that he’ll be able to continue fighting despite the lack of the Chaos Emerald as “I no longer need it. I have Maria in my heart.” Which simultaneously suggests that physical possession (or extremely close proximity) is required in order to use Chaos Control normally, and that there are ways to utilise it without a Chaos Emerald.
… That explanation works for Shadow, and it’s possible to handwave it away with Metal Sonic (after all, it’s copying abilities allowed it to become one of the most powerful characters in Sonic canon, superior to solo super forms which are powered by 7 Chaos Emeralds), but what about the Biolizard? Devil Doom? Shadow himself during Shadow the Hedgehog (2005)’s Last Story? Those can’t be under the same conditions.
Is there an explanation that can account for everything?
Well, there is one…
Tumblr media
In the IDW Comics, in issue #59 (part 3 of the Urban Warfare arc), on page 11, Shadow makes a claim regarding his use of Chaos Control.
“I don’t have the energy to perform Chaos Control without an emerald.”
The power of the Chaos Emeralds are considered a form of energy, dubbed Chaos Energy, or Chaos Emerald Energy, or- you get the idea. We’ve seen non-Chaos Emerald objects hold them before, like the Chaos Drives invented by Professor Gerald. It’s plausible that the various times Shadow (and other such characters) used Chaos Control without a Chaos Emerald were derived from using leftover energy from when they had prior possessed a Chaos Emerald (or Metal Sonic’s copying abilities, which let him compete with Super Forms directly).
Afterall, the Chaos Emeralds turn your thoughts into power, and has been described as being enriched by the heart. Having the bond of someone close to you etched into your heart could have such an effect to amplify the Chaos Energy leftover, at least enough to delay running out for some time.

dream journal. 59.
Tumblr media
july 16th, 2019
oof, so i guess i got a little bit of everything last night. some dreams, a dash of lucidity, and a nightmare to boot that ended up just being fantastical mishmash in the end. i actually tried drinking some apple juice before bed because i grew up with the information that apples help with dreaming. uh. well, i think i’m going to go back to my tea, haha.
the first dream was a little strange. i was on the sidewalk of a semi-busy street. there were other people walking around, minding their own business. then all of a sudden people were stopping and announcing they were seeing angel numbers, all different types of numbers. and, like a video game, they got different rewards just plopped into their hands depending on what angel numbers they say they got. i watched. i didn’t say anything, and i didn’t get any prizes.
wake up, jot it down on my phone, go back to sleep, it’s still the middle of the night. i have another work dream, it’s nothing upsetting or crazy like my previous work dreams. we have a case filled with pastries for people to look at and buy from. a man comes up, points to the case and tells me he wants the branch of sea grapes in there. i stare at him, my hands on my hips. i tell him we don’t sell sea grapes here- that’s a bit absurd right? but my supervisor comes in. and grabs tongs to… pluck a thick branch of sea grapes out of the case. she hands them to me to give to the customer. you know in the office were they stare into the camera? in that moment, i feel like that. defeat, but to someone watching (aka me now) it’s actually pretty funny.
i have another dream. this time i’m sitting down at a dining table with my shift (i don’t know why i have so many dreams with her? maybe it’s because i work with her every time i go into work no questions asked) and we’re just chatting and eating breakfast. it feels like a saturday morning. someone is in the living room watching tv, but i don’t know who. this is definitely shaped after my aunt’s house- who i actually visited after work yesterday. anyway, we talk, through the context of the conversation it seems my shift has been rooming with my mom, and she’s complaining. and i’m empathizing. i don’t wish that on anyone. the tv-watcher comes into the room, i don’t even remember what they look like, in my mind’s eye, they’re just a black silhouette, and suddenly they’re talking about lucidity, and what they do to fo lucid. my brain connects the dots, i gain some lucidity but not enough. i wake up any anyhow.
i wake up at 6:40 am, go to the bathroom, come back. it takes a little longer to fall asleep. maybe ten minutes. i’m thinking this is the perfect opportunity, but unfortunately i get a nightmare instead. i don’t exactly remember where the dream begins, but i do remember when shit hit the fan. you know the game amnesia? it starts off similarly, but i feel like the basis of this nightmare was in a japanese horror pixel game called from next door. ugh, now that i think about it, it definitely was. when i first watched it, i had to fight to keep the image of the monster out of my head when i slept. it was an ugly, wrinkly imp creature, but it’s eyes is what scared me. wide, never blinking, veined. the smile didn’t help. i didn’t get any nightmares immediately so i thought it was done and over with. but tonight, that’s exactly what i got.
i was even in the same room fashioned from in the game, except there was a dresser of sorts in front of me, good for hiding. but my mind looks past the open door into the dark hallway, and into the darker open door leading into the next room across from me. it took one thought of ‘monster..?” and it comes. it just popped out of nowhere, standing in the doorway of the other room, it’s ugly, horrible eyes staring at me. i become frightened, the light of the room i’m in goes out, and i hide behind the dresser. for one second i think i’m safe but the monster comes around the dresser.
i didn’t have a gun on me, but in dreams whenever i put my hand like one, it acts like a real gun. so i do that, i shoot the thing down. but it disappears and just respawns over and over again. i don’t know but i escape the room. i’m in my old condo. feels like the nightmare’s over but- it isn’t. i found a package addressed to me, i open it. it’s a product of hair dye, very special hardy. it was “animated” hair dye. you know how people make art using people’s heads and dye? it was kind of like that, but somehow once applied, it would loop an animation through the filaments of my hair. i apply it. it would have been cool. except, the animation i found out, was a jump scare, of a creature similar to the one i escape. i’m horrified, i scream- every time the jump scare happens its right in my peripheral vision and there’s a sharp tingle in the back of my head. i hold the hair back so i don’t have to see it, but i can still feel it.
i’m frazzled and almost at my wit’s end. then suddenly my sister comes into my room dressed up at some evil doctor, ready to cut me open. i knew it was a prank, but considering the situation i was so fucking scared, i screamed and pushed her away. my sister in turn becomes hurt and worried, and runs away. i feel bad, but i’m too scared to call her back. i don’t know what to do, so i go to my mom. i show her what’s happened with my hair, the dyed portion is black against my natural brown. my sister comes back but my mom dressed her up in a bonnet and matching dress to be less scary looking. the animation plays, it horrified my mom, i see it in the mirror and there’s a tightness in my chest. we both don’t know what to do. but my mom seems to know where to go. we end up in this large, forbidding place, with a large forbidding room inside.
it’s at this point of the dream where everything i’ve just written becomes forgotten for a new scene- to be honest, i don’t care and i’m glad for it to be gone. there’s me in the room, my sister, and a little boy. his mom is somewhere too. these lycan-hyena monsters come in from the hall to my right. they immediately start attacking me. in this moment though, i’m not scared, in fact i’m ready to fight. there’s a thick hockey stick to the side, i use it to bash some of the monsters around. one grabs the end and crushes it between its teeth though. somehow after that i end up with a whip in my hand. i run around trying to get everything in the room. as i pass, one of the lycans grabs the boy and tries to book it with him. i manage to wrap the whip around the boy’s waist and pull him back to me, and give him to his mother. we all run for it out of the room- into another big room, it looks like a black light bowling ally? and a diner to eat at on the side. i don’t even know man.
you know, i’ve been told my frustration and impatience. i’m feeling it, haha. but i’ll still push through, i have goals and i plan to meet them, however long it takes.

Donna's Hands
I could talk about her hands forever. The gentle curves of her slender fingers, her neatly painted nails, the way they gently rest on Angie's waist with gentle care. GOOD LORD
The way I'd love to sit and watch her sew by the fire, never faulting. The way her hands know the materials she uses, the way her hands would fit perfectly on my waist, the way she'd kiss my lips.

Love Aflame
 Love, Aflame
Pov: You’re a maid who had been working for Lady Dimitrescu for quite some time. Recently you’ve caught the flu and have been reduced to bedrest.
Warnings: Some slight anger from Lady Dimitrescu and a small argument between them. Other than that, this is fluff! A word a few might not know! Pulchritudinous! It means beautiful.  This was written for @alcinasdarling but also for @ladydimitrescuworship
Working in House Dimitrescu wasn’t exactly easy. The Lady’s daughters tended to be very aggressive in a playful way, and the Lady herself could have a bit of a temper. Although, you had worked up quite the good relationship between you. After the first year, you had been promoted to grand chambermaid due to your ability to follow orders and sarcastic sense of humor.  Perhaps the work had bored you way more than you had cared to notice, as you had taken up writing down your thoughts in a journal.
The journal, old but usable, had been gifted to you. And by that, it was really just left on your nightstand. Usually when Lady Dimitrescu left you small gifts of appreciation, they were left with some sort of note. However when you had found it, there were none.
December 18th,
“I have begun my daily tasks as per usual, getting dressed and fixing my hair. The Lady has requested I clean the ballroom for she intends to host a ball. Of course, after eavesdropping   over-hearing a conversation between her and Mother Miranda, I knew this was really a ploy to hunt for test subjects and prey. It is now time for the Lady’s bath.”
“That’s an old entry.. Perhaps it’s about time I write another,”  You thought, picking up a pen that looked like a quill. After all, it could be quite frustrating trying to write with actual ink. The ball itself hadn’t actually been that interesting aside from sharing your first kiss with the Lady. Socializing isn't exactly easy when you know what the real reason was behind the whole event. The girls had been cleaned up and put in fine dresses, and the Lady wore a glorious red dress with fur on the shoulders.
December 20th,
It has been sometime since I last wrote, perhaps I should do this more often now that the Lady has restricted me to bedrest. It is quite frustrating, as I can’t do any of my regular duties and feel quite useless just laying here. The ball itself was full of the usual boring guests, people from the village. No one I knew however. But I got the most incredible gift I could’ve ever asked for. Alcina had kissed me, her wine flavored lips pressed against mine. And when she kissed me for the first time, I felt something of which I could not name. At the time, I could not find the right words. Even when she had asked me how it made me feel. When I had told her I could not say, her lips upturned into a grin. As if the mere idea of making words incomprehensible to me was the most enjoyable thing in the world.
“Y/N, I have come to inspect your health,” Lady Dimitrescu’s voice called from the other side of the door.  You jumped, startled by the suddenness of her presence. The door began to open as you scrambled to hide the journal under the covers of your sheets.  Lady Dimitrescu stood high above you, moving to sit on your bed. Her weight tilting you slightly, she smiled.   “How are you feeling darling?” She purred, her golden eyes puncturing you with their gaze. You hesitated to answer her, causing her smile to drop. “I asked you a question, you are expected to answer. Or have you lost that precious voice of yours?” She growled. “No mistress, I have not.. I am feeling better.  I only ask to return to my work. It’s killing me just sitting here, I feel suffocated,” You said, clutching the sheets nervously. Lady Dimitrescu’s gaze softened as you coughed a few times, a light burn in your throat. “My dear, you are not well and I will not have you making yourself worse,” She stated firmly. Scoffing and rolling your eyes you tried to get up but were held down firmly by the woman, the journal slipping out from the covers and onto the floor.
“Oh? What’s this?” Lady Dimitrescu bent slightly to reach the item, easily holding your frantic self down. “N-nothing stop! Put it down! Hey! Can you hear me up there!?” You rambled on until she covered your mouth. Her eyes scanned the entry before she snapped the journal shut.  “Well.. isn’t this interesting..” she murmured, scooping you gently out of the bed. The urge to protest was quickly swallowed by the excitement and admiration rising in your chest. For a murderer, she truly was beautiful. Her ebony hair in soft curls, her porcelain skin, and most of all her air.  She carried you for a while through the hallways, soft candlelight warming your skin.
Eventually you reached her room, she didn’t drop you for a moment. Not even as she bent slightly to enter the room.
Finally she sat you on her bed. “Now pet, I want you to stay there until I return alright?” She purred. You nodded, swinging your legs. “Sure why not, after I assist you in–”, She raised a finger.  Lady Dimitrescu slipped into her bathroom, returning a short moment later in a white nightgown that, if the light landed on it right, was slightly transparent. “Wow.. just wow.. She’s.. incredible..”  You thought as she strode around to her side of the bed and slipped under the covers. Moving quickly to avoid her crushing you, you pulled the covers around you. A coughing fit racked your body as you leaned back against the pillows.
“Easy my dear..” Alcina whispered, rubbing your stomach. Her fingers against your thin nightgown sent cold shivers throughout your body. Her smell, her touch. The way she carried herself so restrained so as to not hurt you by accident. God just her…
It was hard not to leap up and kiss her, but the fear of destroying the relationship restrained you very well. “Thank you mistress, I appreciate it,” You whispered.  She smiled again, tilting your head over. She ran a finger across your lips before pulling you closer so that your noses were almost touching. “May I kiss you?” She asked in a breathy whisper. Your answer was pressing your lips against hers, rolling over her to straddle her lower stomach. At first you had been lifting yourself up but she pulled forward, cupping your cheeks with both hands. At last, your lips were touching. Her breath filling your lungs, the smell of the wine she drank filling your nose. The kiss lasted for a while, neither of you stopping to properly breathe. “My my draga mea, you taste so sweet..”
All you could do was stare at her pulchritudinous body. And you too mistress, I apologize for staring.” You tried to match her formal tone, even though your size made the romantic pose quite a funny scene. She chuckled, bouncing you slightly. In order to stop yourself from falling face forward onto her face, you rested your head on her chest.  “Rest now my dear, do not worry about your weight. I assure you, I am comfortable,” she said in a hushed tone. Soon the room had become quiet, the only sounds being Alcina’s breathy sighs of contentment as she breathed. Her skin and nightgown, warm. Sleep soon came to take you under its wing, Alcina stroking your hair.
Thank you for reading!! This is my first fic so I apologize for it being so short!

Can I ask what's wrong with Michael W Ford's books? I never read them but I've seen often people recommending them, so I'm curious. Thank you and have a nice day.
Thanks for the question! Sorry if this gets a little long, TL;DR is at the bottom but I've broken down some more specific examples in point form.
I'll preface this by saying that if people get something worthwhile from Michael W Ford's books, that's their business and I'm happy for them. However, there's a few things about his writing and him as a person that I don't really love and struggle to get behind. Most of the specific textual examples I give are from the Bible of the Adversary specifically, as it's one of his more famous books and the only one I personally have had the mental fortitude to page through so far.
- I'm immediately leery of anyone who's often described as a "visionary" or "luminary" on websites selling or listing their books, especially when I've gotten the feeling that it's just that his books are accessible and plentiful. Even among fans of authors like E. A. "Become A Living God" Koetting, the general opinion seems to be that his books lack a lot of consistency and are a bit poorly written. Can confirm for the Bible of the Adversary, at least. There's some parts of that thing that could have used a once-over by an editor.
- I try very hard not to use what happened to the Greater Church of Lucifer/GCoL against him. Another member of the community that I do still (loosely, infrequently) interact with was also involved, and while I sincerely wish they'd both more deeply researched the man they were signing up to run a very public and scrutinized church with, I think his turning into a scam artist who publicly converted to Christianity was enough punishment there. Likewise, I'm a bit uncomfortable with his past involvement with the Order of Nine Angels/ONA/O9A given the fact that they're a pack of murder advocating nazis, but apparently he left when he discovered that fact, so I try to give him the benefit of the doubt that he truly did distance himself from them immediately upon learning of their beliefs, as I don't know when these things became more widely known. However, both of these fumbles alongside how he presents himself and his books just don't sit well with me, as the most generous interpretation is that he was twice-misled in some pretty dangerous and harmful ways by those that are damaging to the public perception of Luciferianism, but still likes to be some figurehead of the Luciferian community. People make mistakes, and people can be misled, and people can learn from past experiences, but his track record is a bit upsetting for a supposed authority.
- His work includes pieces and ideas from occultists or practices that I tend to avoid in my own practice and study, such as Thelema and Crowley's writing as a whole, inspiration taken from the Temple of Set/Setian magic, Qlipoth (because it wouldn't be a Luciferian grimoire without pilfered Jewish mysticism), and forms of Gnosticism that embrace the idea of God as an evil demiurge (which i explained my discomfort with in my previous post). I'm also not a huge fan of his "all magic comes from within" approach (and find it hard to reconcile with his frequent use of Luciferian deities/spirits and demons), nor that he'll talk about Cain's role in "Luciferian grimoires" without actually naming any... though given how similar a piece of Lilith themed artwork he's done looks to Andrew Chumbley's illustration, I assume he means the sort of books the Cultus Sabbati was writing. I wish I still had the Ford version saved or could remember which of his books it's from, the side by side comparison is painful but without it I risk looking like I'm making things up.
- Heavy, heavy use of Lilith, which I don't love for reasons I outlined before. She mostly seems to appear whenever spooky lustful sex magick is being discussed, which is great, that's great.
- He also uses the Wiccan wheel of the year sprinkled in among his more Luciferian focused holy days, which is just really funny to me. Why are we celebrating Beltane, Michael? Why are we celebrating Imbolg? (Page 69)
- He likes to use a lot of "black magic" and "vampyre magic" stuff which tends to feel very sensationalized and over the top to me. I've seen discussions of vampiric magic I found very interesting, but so far his hasn't been one of them.
- He sometimes seems to conflate Lucifer with Samael which I really truly dislike, though it's admittedly not the most baffling or out of left field take I've seen.
- Ford at times seems to either willfully misrepresent or misunderstand information he's passing along. For example, in the Bible of the Adversary he says that Cain's name comes from "...root ‘Kanah’ which means to possess. This by itself presents the antinomian nature of his essence, while instead of sacrificing his most bountiful items to the Lord, he kept them for himself." As I understand it, discussion surrounding Cain's name possibly coming from the Hebrew word קנה (kana) lean more into it being the word for to get or to obtain, referencing Eve's declaration after his conception that she'd gotten a man from the Lord. I'm all for alternate interpretations, but it feels like needless edgy-fying to fit the narrative he's trying to present. (Quote from Page 58)
- He'll say some absolutely bonkers shit like "Abel in some Luciferian Lore is considered a lower pre-form of Cain, thus the sacrifice was not literal" with zero citations or references. Like sir what the fuck does that mean, what Lore, please give us the lore please. (Footnote, Page 59)
- His interpretation of the Watchers and the Book of Enoch is so insultingly bad that I won't even relay it here, but if I see one more person claim that an angel, demon, or spirit they want to distance from Christianity or Judaism is actually a Babylonian god I'm going to go feral.
- As I've hinted at above, it feels like he'll just cherry pick and regurgitate for no real purpose. A few spirits from other texts like the Lesser Key and the Grimoire Verum get mentioned for... mostly the set of names, it seems like, he just kind of lists them out of context.
TL;DR, Michael W Ford feels (to me at least) like someone who has picked out the more appealing and edgy occult trivia and magic he could find from a wide range of sources, recontextualized the parts that didn't appeal to him until they fit his aesthetic and purposes, and presented them as a workable entry point to the Luciferian religion and its potential magical systems that is all flash no substance... and then could barely polish the flash. I don't like that he's many people's first exposure to the concept of theistic Luciferianism, and I don't like how authoritatively he presents his jumbled works as what the religion is truly about when it's so broad a label. Again, if there is something that someone finds useful within his books I am very happy for them, but I have struggled to find anything I could point to that make them worth the read... even for me to investigate further keep critiquing.
I honestly do not know why so people recommend them, unless it's just that they're easy to buy, reasonably inexpensive, and specifically have the Luciferian label on them. If that's truly the case, those people are being lazy and uncritical in a way that doesn't speak well to their apparent Luciferian ideals.

Dracula, May 25-26th
Dr. Seward’s entry, dictated into a robot because it’s the future:
My only respite from the pain of being rejected is going and bothering Renfield, a 59-year-old patient.
Morris’s entry, presumably painted on the side of some stray cows, because he’s a cowboy:
Hey, pardner, let’s all go out and drink to celebrate/forget.  We promise not to leave you in a gutter if you get trashed.  It’ll be like one of them there stag parties from the prairies.
Art’s entry, by telegram, because he’s The Normal One:
Yes, I’ll come party with you.

Nascent Demon Lord, Igramalash
Tumblr media
Image from Herald of the Ivory Labyrinth, © Paizo Publishing
[Commissioned by @tar-baphon. This one requires some context. Igramalash appeared in Herald of the Ivory Labyrinth with a ton of backstory, as discussed in the first paragraph of the entry below. Most parties will probably never learn it, since he just fights until slain and has nothing to say to the party except for screaming for Alderpash. He can act as an agent of chaos in the adventure, and can be goaded into attacking the warden and the staff of the prison, be commanded by the PCs with the help of Runelord Alderpash, or simply killed. The commissioner ran a party through Wrath of the Righteous, and they allowed Igramalash to live and escape. So this request was for an Igramalash improved and triumphant, having re-established his worship and becoming a power to be reckoned with. The original module says he was worshiped as a god of pain and obedience, but I thought his concerns should be updated to reflect his history of betrayals and imprisonments.
Not also that the original Igramalash had mythic tiers, as is fitting for being from the Mythic AP. As I’ve previously said, I hate the mythic rules, and have stripped them out. Igramalash was especially egregious for having the most game-breaking ability of the mythic rules, dual initiative. I gave it an ability to maintain some of that flavor without the overpowered making-two-full-attacks-every-round mechanics.]

Nascent Demon Lord, Igramalash CR 23 CE Outsider (extraplanar) This hideous thing is roughly humanoid, with a head that is merely a fanged canker and squirming fanged tentacles that spill from its body like intestines. Its oversized arms drag to the ground and end in clawed fists, luminous runes carved into the muscle. A long tongue whips from its mouth, and black smoke billows forth from it like a shroud.
Igramalash the Inverted Rune has had a long and bizarre history. He began life as a rune giant, one of a race of titans created by the runelords to manage their giant armies. After a failed rebellion, he was tortured by his master, Runelord Alderpash, and transformed into a hideous parody—an inverted giant. This was accomplished by fusing his body with that of a powerful qlippoth, granting Igramalash remarkable resilience and a deadly poison. In this form, lesser giants worshiped him as a divinity of death, and this tribute went to his head (or what was left of it). After decades of service, he betrayed Alderpash again, and the Runelord turned him over to Baphomet, Alderpash’s patron, for torment in the Ivory Labyrinth. After being freed by adventurers storming the Ivory Labyrinth as a terror weapon, Igramalash escaped captivity. Having been exposed finally to the full energies of the Abyss, he has ascended to the form of nascent demon lord, and now seeks a spot of territory in the Abyss to claim as his own.
Igramalash’s intellect has been enhanced by his Abyssal upgrades, and he combines overwhelming strength with savvy tactics. Against multiple foes, he uses spell-like abilities to shape the battlefield and tie up support before concentrating full firepower on a single target. He enjoys eating his enemies alive, especially wizards, as they remind him of the hated Alderpash. Igramalash has lived far too long to die in battle, and he teleports away to recover and plot revenge if grievously injured.
The nascent cult of Igramalash is growing among giants, fleshwarped creatures, and other monsters used as minions by more intelligent powers. Igramalash has developed a reputation as a savior figure, which inflicts violence on the masters who deserve it. Few of his worshipers realize that Igramalash cares as little for them as their original masters did, and would gladly sacrifice their lives in order to gain a momentary advantage. The prospect of revenging themselves on their tormentors is too great, and his veneration spreads in secret, kept away from prying eyes and passed through hidden signs. Igramalash realizes that wealth can buy loyalty, and collects treasure to distribute among his minions. Igramalash has learned the lessons of his transformation and captivity well—any troublesome underling is swiftly killed instead of having their torment drawn out.

The usual form in Old English was onginnen, perhaps “to open, open up,” and comparable to OHG in-ginnen “to cut open, open up.” It is odd — unfair? — that “ends” might be a noun, but not “begins.” There is however “The hard begin, that meets thee in the dore” in Spenser’s Faerie Queen (III, iii, 21).

A Closer Look at Milwaukee Zip Code 53206
Tumblr media
After reading A Closer Look at Milwaukee Zip Code 53206, an article published in the Milwaukee Magazine in 2014, I’m ashamed of the city I currently call home.
Contained between I-43 to the east, 27th Street to the West and North Avenue and Capitol Drive to its south and north sides is one of the largest zip code areas in the city of Milwaukee. Zip code area of 53206 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin is often written off as the poorest area in the largest city in the state.
An eyesore in Milwaukee, zip code 53206, is where a third of the city’s vacant lots reside. The greatest percentage, nearly 95% of its residents in zip code 53206 are African Americans. Surrounding counties implemented restrictive covenants preventing African American tenants' equal rights, which confined most African Americans to the northwestern portion of the city, or around the 53206 area. The Supreme Court ruled such covenants to be unconstitutional in 1948, they remained on the books until Congress passed the Fair Housing Act in 1968. Milwaukee known for being one of the most segregated cities in the United States.
Tumblr media
Warren’s Lounge on Hopkins Avenue, owned by 81-year-old Warren Harper, a “Cheers” like bar hides itself in the middle of the deserted condemned buildings. Warren and his wife, Shirley, have been married for over 59 years, with four children and multiple grandchildren. Warren and Shirley bought the lounge back in 1970. Back in the lounge’s heyday factory workers from around the area would stop in for lunch or beer relaxing after their shift. During the time when the Green Bay Packers played at county stadium, players could be regularly seen enjoying the relaxing atmosphere.
Life has changed and the lounge is not the same, feeling the pain of the abandoned factories. Even though, their children attempt to sway them into having hip-hop bands play into the addition to the jazz and blues bands that periodically play at the lounge. Life has been hard on them, however they will not close, “It’s their life.”
Wandering around 53206 tends to make people, especially white people, uneasy. Too many businesses are either closed or enclosed in metal bars and padlocks. Even with a gem like, Warren’s Lounge, can be intimidating to its visitors as you enter through the small, dark doorway hidden behind a locked heavy metal grate with a bell that must be rung for entry.
Opportunities seem to climb and decline rapidly for African Americans in Milwaukee. So, what happened?
Tumblr media
One generation hopes and dreams becomes heavy burdens on the forgotten generations that follow. Looking past educational statures, joblessness and the crime in the areas of poverty, we need to begin looking into the history of the African American population of Milwaukee, Wisconsin at once was and why it became what it is today.
The African American population increased with the Great Migration north, which affected the African American communities in Milwaukee. Like most African American families, Warren and Shirley moved to Milwaukee in 1957 during the Great Migration in search of a better life.
The Great Migration was when millions of southern African American people migrated north for better opportunities between 1916 to 1970. Many came to Milwaukee for the ever-growing jobs with the industrial factories at the time. Families settled down bought homes in the area, new businesses opened and grew, times were good. By the 1980s, times were not so good. Factories started to close in the area and businesses started to move out of the once flourishing neighborhoods. Some people moved out to the suburbs, while the majority of the African American population stayed behind and survived.
Barbara Miner, the Milwaukee-area freelance writer, purpose in this article was to educate by showing a face to the neighborhood around the Milwaukee 53206 zip code. The article brought tears to my eyes as I read about the longevity of people who make up the community even through the absence of jobs, transportation, and sort of conveniences that those of us who live merely blocks away take for granted. Then there is the stealthy growing abandoned housing market. However, many families have still stuck around to support their community or stay for the affordable housing.
Tumblr media
Through the article, Miner, is attempting to educate the audience on the poverty in our own city. We have created this blind spot within our own community, and we tend to forget the area’s history. We are left with the assumption that the people living in these areas have chosen their fate instead of understanding the truth behind our ignorance. It’s well known what happened in Detroit after the auto industries started closing, but it is not known how the same affects had and still affects so many in our own city.
Beauty exists, such as with Dr. Carter, a retired Pharmacist who continues to go back and visit his community passing along trusted remedies to his neighborhood residents. Dr. Carter broke down barriers back in 1968 after he founded one of first Milwaukee black owned pharmacies. Now after selling his pharmacy, Dr. Carter can still be found at the store as a consultant in natural remedies.
Tumblr media
Yet the media has forgotten about this area as though it doesn’t exist except for the inquiries pertaining to shootings in the area. The problem, or exigence, here is with the ignorance surrounding this forgotten and disregarded area of our city. I begin to ask myself, why do we have such a blind eye with our own neighboring areas? I wonder how the decline to industry in the city of Milwaukee and the poverty relates to the poverty that was created with the auto crisis in Detroit. I would have liked to see more of the information we read from the A Closer Look at Milwaukee Zip Code 53206 article on the non-existence of corporate businesses and declining public transportation and after school programs ties into the jobless market that intertwine in the poverty rates in these areas.
Current circumstances in 53206 go deeper than the loss of factories and that the jobs in the area.
“There’s investment out there, and there are jobs. But they’re in New Berlin or Waukesha. There’s no bus, so how are people going to get there?” (2015, Jan 28)
Perceptions have also been made that the housing bubble was the issue that affected people in this area, and they were of the many that shouldn’t have bought a home in the first place. However, a lot of families that lost their homes in 53206 were long-time owners.
Miner goes on to talk with a group of students from North Division High School who are studying zip-code-53206. Miner gathered their thoughts on how they feel about the area and what they would want people to know about the area, some of which that were mentioned as follows:
“Notice that we are here, that, like you, we are human, and we deserve the same things you want.”
“The police, I can’t explain it, but they don’t like black people.”
“It ain’t got no future.”
“Nothing’s going to change, ’cause nobody cares.”
Unfortunately, conditions such as the few mentioned have contributed to demolish government help enabling people to believe such areas are beyond any genuine rehabilitation, deeming the area in the past too black and ghetto.
Poverty is so much more then people just making bad choices or the wrong decisions in life. The purpose of the rhetors with this medium explain how trauma that stems from poverty begin way before one can make their own choices in life.
Regardless, parents in 53206 want the same things as any other parent anywhere in the world wants. We want our children to be safe, happy and a better childhood than we had. Is there anything wrong with the hope that our children grow up without the worry of crime surrounding them or to be able to go through school without bullying? We all want hope for the future.
Whether we live in Milwaukee or not we can relate to the exigences mentioned in the life cycle of the Great Migration and African Americans in Milwaukee mentioned, you cannot deny the purpose. The effects of poverty have an impact with your entire life, from childhood on through your adult life and passed on through the next generations. We become our parents, our community, our surroundings. We are what we are familiar with whether it be hiding money for emergencies like those who lived through the Great Depression to as unknowingly as our dialect or accent we commonly use day to day. If raised in poverty the traumatic affects you would carry through life, even if you leave those surroundings, the effects remain.
For Milwaukee, the future needs to bring education on the history of the African American population. Milwaukee doesn’t give the same possibilities to the people in the now poverty areas affected by the industrial decline. Such possibilities as, public transportation to give access to jobs and convenience stores, such as Wal-Mart or even McDonalds. Overlooking the truth and ignorance of the past never helped humanity in the future.

Murder by Lamplight (A Dr. Julia Lewis Mystery) by Patrice McDonough #Spotlight / #Giveaway @KensingtonBooks
Tumblr media
Murder by Lamplight (A Dr. Julia Lewis Mystery) Historical Mystery 1st in Series Setting - England Publisher ‏ : ‎ Kensington Books (February 20, 2024) Hardcover ‏ : ‎ 336 pages ISBN-10 ‏ : ‎ 1496746368 ISBN-13 ‏ : ‎ 978-1496746368 Kindle ASIN ‏ : ‎ B0C6FW2HCM Audiobook ASIN B0CVNN9F93 As a deadly cholera pandemic burns its way through Victorian London in the winter of 1866, a trailblazing female physician and a skeptical Scotland Yard detective reluctantly team up to stop a sadistic killer in this dark, atmospheric, historically rich mystery for readers of Andrea Penrose and Deanna Raynourn. “Enthralling debut. . . Mystery, pulse‑pounding suspense and a budding romance. More, please!”—Mary Jane Clark, New York Times Bestselling Author When a vengeful, sadistic killer terrorizes London twenty years before Jack the Ripper will stalk its same streets, an unlikely duo is prompted to investigate: one of Britain’s first female physicians, Dr. Julia Lewis, and Scotland Yard’s Inspector Richard Tennant, a Crimean War veteran with lingering physical and psychological wounds. November 1866: The grisly murder site in London’s East End is thronged with onlookers. None of them expect the calmly efficient young woman among them to be a medical doctor, arrived to examine the corpse. Inspector Richard Tennant, overseeing the investigation, at first makes no effort to disguise his skepticism. But Dr. Julia Lewis is accustomed to such condescension . . . To study medicine, Julia had to leave Britain, where universities still bar their doors to women, and travel to America. She returned home to work in her grandfather’s practice—and to find London in the grip of a devastating cholera epidemic. In four years, however, she has seen nothing quite like this—a local clergyman’s body sexually mutilated and displayed in a manner that she—and Tennant—both suspect is personal. Days later, another body is found with links to the first, and Tennant calls in Dr. Lewis again. The murderer begins sending the police taunting letters and tantalizing clues—though the trail leads in multiple directions, from London’s music halls to its grim workhouses and dank sewers. Lewis and Tennant struggle to understand the killer’s dark obsessions and motivations. But there is new urgency, for the doctor’s role appears to have shifted from expert to target. And this killer is no impulsive monster, but a fiendishly calculating opponent, determined to see his plan through to its terrifying conclusion . . . Sonic knew that he shouldn't be feeling like this. They were rivals most of the time, but that didn't mean that they weren't friends when the occasion called for it. It was just their dynamic and he was fine with it. This was how things always were. So, why was he feeling like someone stabbed him in the chest when Shadow accepted that proposal?

I decided to just randomly post my creepypasta here because why not.

The Silent Dr. pouf
Project- 97418320031
Dr- Alexander Pouf
Journal entry #34
Today me and my partner, Dr. Mendren used lab rat #23 and we're testing the mix #53
Lab rat was injected the affects where numerous seizures until all organs stopped function. Mix #53 was a failure and thus cannot be used as an antidote for the disease.
Journal entry #39
The lab rat #24 was used and mix #56
The rat was was injected with the mix and experienced small seizures before experiencing internal blood loss
The antidotes were making seems to be failing more and more each time. I'm worried as the disease outside is spreading, getting worse. I hope we find a cure.
Journal entry #44
Lab rat #27 mix #59
Lab rat experienced a major heart attack and bleeding
Dr. Mendren assures me that everything is fine, however I feel otherwise.
We're making no progress. All we seem to be doing is making deaths.
Journal entry #56
Lab rat #39 mix #71
I'm horrified. The lab rat was injected by Dr. Mendren and after a few minutes it became crazy. The rat clawed at its own face ripping its own eyes before devouring them. It then ran and ran, it wouldn't stop! Dr. Mendren laughed as I stared in terror. The rat ran even as its skin was becoming ripped, it ran when blood was pouring, it ran when the bones were exposed.
It Slowly died from blood loss, staying alive for a long amount of time due to adrenaline.
Dr. Mendren is a monster! I know he has been tampering with the antidotes, otherwise things wouldn't be like this!
Journal entry #57
I decided I will come to the lab late at night, I intend to catch Dr. Mendren in the act and confront him of this horrific crime he is doing.
I must hide in a place and wait.
I sit silently in a corner where boxes are piled, waiting for Mendren to show up and tamper with the mixes. The rats shifting within their cages makes me more anxious, you'd think a noise you're so familiar with wouldnt bug you, yet it still does. It smells damp next to the cages, all the tails shifting, the room devoid of light. It's like a whole new room than what I'm used to. My heart is beating so fast, I've never been so scared. I feel as though I've made a mistake and I feel tears threatening to slip from my eyes. My breath seems so loud! I have to admit to myself that I am very much afraid.
*click*
There's no going back now, I'm trapped within this room now that he has arrived. I shift in place and sigh, ready to jump up and confront him. Hes mumbling, if only I could hear what hes saying... mendren starts writing inside a journal of his while smirking, I dont like that look of his. It fills me with an uneasy feeling as though doom lurks around a corner.
Hes messing with chemicals now and I jump up to confront him, shakily I speak in a loud voice.
MENDREN WHAT ON EARTH HAVE YOU BEEN DOING!
Mendren jumps but starts laughing as I frown confused and concerned.
What on earth is pouf doing? Hiding in a corner like a child as if to confront me of stealing cookies from a jar? I'm impressed he even had the courage to sit there, hes always been such a coward. Hes taller than me but hes a twig, does he really think he could stop me from doing anything, so what if I have a little fun with some rats and chemicals.
I stop laughing and step towards him.
*Tsk, tsk, tsk*
Pouf? ~ What on earth are you accusing me of?~ youve known me since collage, do you really think I'm some criminal? Thats very upsetting to me that you'd think such a thing.
I, you- the mixes have been getting worse and worse, the rats are suffering! They mutilate themselves, youre the only one who could possibly be messing with our work! And you being here just proves it! What do you hope to do with all this!
I feel my face contort into grimace. I need to get rid of him, I'm not done playing just yet.
Dr mendren appears to slowly grow cold, I step back with each step he takes forward eventually bumping into the cages, feeling a few rats claw a little against my back.
M..Mendren? Heh heh, what are...... I trail off as he grabs a thick wire from a table, my eyes growing wide.
I stumble trying to rush past him to get to the door. I choke as he quickly loops the wire over my head tugging me back, slicing my neck as he laughs. He wraps the wire tightly around my neck, slicing it all around, it stings! I can't breathe! Blood, my blood is spilling from me. Tears flow from my eyes as I continuously gag trying to speak! Trying to ask why!? he gets annoyed and grabs a thick sewing needle and scissors. Cutting the wire and pushing me down, he furiously sews into my mouth, silencing me as my vision fades. I do not wish for him to be the last thing I see, so I turn my gaze upon the cages. I look upon the rats and think for the last time, I'm sorry.........
I sigh looking at what I've done, I feel nothing as I gaze upon his corpse, his long orange hair and white coat smeared with blood, his hands bloody and bruised from trying to pull away the wire. I just stare and turn away to get a saw from the construction lab and a bag from the kitchen.
I get back and start to cut him up so that hell fit, the vibrating from the saw against bones aggravates me, but I complete the job and take the bag to my car after Ive finished cleaning.
I drive through the city and dump the bag into the ocean without a care. I have no regrets, and I do not morn...................
I continue doing what I have been like usual, everyone assumes poufs sick and just forgot to call in. It wouldnt be the first time so nobody's concerned they wouldnt even notice if he was gone for a week without calling in.
I continue working late into the night without a care. It becomes night and I'm slightly tired, so I sit to write a few logs into my journal.
Lights flicker a bit but I dont mind, that is until they all turn off and I'm left in the dark. I stumble blindly to the switch for the backup lights. I flick the switch and the dim red lights flicker on. I grow confused as I hear the rats squeaking and skittering around, I jump as one scurries onto my foot. I quickly kick it away with disgust and turn away only to see almost all the cages everywhere, rats roaming about the room freely.
I freeze in place as I see pouf standing with his back to me, opening a cage. He slowly turns to me, I stare into his eyes, one a monochrome swirl and the other containing nothing at all, as if it's nothing but a void. Rats swarm next to his legs, even dead ones appear in the mix, entrails dragging along and empty red eyes. Pouf doesnt speak, his mouth is still sewn and his neck still gashed, bruises along the marks. His skin is pale and slightly purple like any corpse, and no signs of saw marks. He walks towards me with a sad look as he tilts his head, I scream and run. Before I reach the door I'm covered in rats, they bite and claw. I'm dragged down as they start to tear my flesh away and burrow into me as I lay trapped. I scream and beg for poufs help, but he just watches. My vision is almost covered by rats, and I'm tired, before I go away, I see pouf turn. And he walks away, and so do the rats. And everything turns into nothing..........
Mendren was found shredded and the rats were gone in the morning, Pouf was never found.
Everything in this story belongs to @Toby_draws_535
