Anyway playing Great God Grove got me thinking about Smile for Me and how much this game changed both my art style and my brain chemistry. And GGG is currently in the process of doing it again. Y’all will definitely get fanart for that once I finish it (no spoilers please)

Summary of Session 7/26/2024

During the trio's adventures in Westgate, Rome had been steadily traveling south with his father. After about three weeks of travel, they came across and large graveyard that had metal poles stuck into the ground with masks adorning each one. It was too small of a graveyard for the people to be buried laying down. Next to the graveyard was a well-trodden path that Rome and Driskoll followed. It led to a two house settlement where two cloaked, masked figures were standing beside a campfire. Rome asked his father to attune to the Helm of Telepathy as he explored the settlement. When he returned, Driskoll had been kidnapped. Sneaking around, Rome had found one of the houses held his father and what sounded like other hostages. All of the cloaked cultists gathered in the house so Rome explored the second one. This one held all the tools and books for a sacrificial ritual that supposedly would bring back the god Mask. Rome waited in that house for the cultists to return and killed two of them as they prepared to sacrifice his father before spell-attacking the third and piercing him in the throat. Rome then freed the others and then burned each and every mask to mess up their ritual. After that, the pair continued on their way.

Back in Westgate, the party members wrap up their day. Boris followed the guard, Wilfred, to a secret rendezvous between him, Puile, and a secret third stranger. Boris watched the group, letting Wilfred leave, before following the mysterious figure down the streets of Westrgate to a distant alleyway when the stranger changed back into Mavi who had been in disguise. Boris, upset that he wasted his time, caught Mavi up on and what he had been doing and they both went to the inn for the night. The following day, Boris returned to The Bull's Hooves and spotted not just a vampire hunter but also a Dhampir. This Dhampir was surprised to meet a bugbear version of his kind and even more surprised to find that Boris knew nothing of vampire culture and politics, quickly leaving out of fear of what his master would say if he knew. The hunter followed after the Dhampir who, in turn, was followed by Boris. Boris trailed the pair to the red light district where the Dhampir disappeared into the Midnight Snack brothel. The hunter did not follow him inside, not wishing to become food, and walked back to his apartment. Boris followed him there and, after peering inside, realized that this hunter was on a contract to take some particular vampire out while also scouting out the vampire territories that included the redlight district and the higher end drug dens. Deciding not to kill the hunter just yet, Boris left for training. At training, Wilfred approached Boris and said that Lord Marcus himself wanted to speak to Boris. Boris followed Wilfred up to the study where he spotted the Spymaster speak to Lord Marcus before disappearing through a false wall to the right. Boris entered after Wilfred knocked and Wilfred was sent away. Boris checked to the right and saw the Spymaster had left. Lord Marcus asked an assortment of history questions to which Boris explained that while he did not really know his father, his father had served the Mickealson family in Marsember before his untimely end. Boris wanted to be like his father and trained his whole life as he made his way to Westgate and signed up for this opportunity. Lord Marcus explained to Boris that because of his expertise in combat and medicine that he would be defending the room where Lord Marcus would go to in case of an attack or if he was in need of respite. Anyone who entered needed to give a certain pattern of a knock before entering and if anyone didn't, then Boris was to kill them on spot. Boris then leaves, glancing back into the room to spot the Spymaster entering from the left side of the room and immediately reaching for a history book. Boris turns his attention to a servant, discretely asking if they need help, to which the servant informs Boris that they are being watched and listened to. The servant guides Boris to the room and, after Boris knocks and enters, finds it to be a very nice simple room. A single sofa, bookcases, and a singular door to the right that leads to an upwards spiral staircase. The bordering rooms are all stone. Boris then returns to training and is dismissed.

Mavi has made considerable progress in her investigation. She reached out to Puile, healing him, to Dani, tricking him into realizing he is 62% closeted gay as she stole from him, to Untis, offering her a way to no longer be a human trafficked victim, to Anen, who impressed Mavi but Mavi also terrified the woman as a home inspector, and finally visited Wecok, giving him a sliver of hope for his circus and leaving town and said for him to bring to her three of his most trusted allies to help him in his future endeavor in the entertainment world. All the while, only running into one Janus spy.

Ten busied himself afterwards by seeking out the real Spymaster. It was easy to presume that a man like Lord Marcus would have two, one he uses publicly and one he actually kept close and used. Ten spread a rumor about a dragon infiltrating the guards. By doing this, he actually did manage to find the scumbag of a man. Ten confessed to not being who he claimed to be and offered an alliance. If the Spymaster didn't rat him out, then Ten would do what he could to protect the Lancaster family. The Spymaster agreed and learned that the talented bugbear guard was with Ten. That night, Ten updated the party while hiding out in the restroom and Boris told Ten not to rat him out anymore. That he's trying to keep a down-low profile. Ten spoke with Angelica the next day and asked her if she wanted to be the problem, the victim, or the solution when it came to her father. Angelica said that she just wanted to leave. Disappointed, Ten asked about Angelica's mother who, after confessing that she could not think critically on the subject, said that her mother had fallen ill several years ago and that she had been brought to another land to heal. Ten then decided to go for a walk and ended up being followed by the Spymaster who struck up a conversation when caught. The Spymaster, though conversation, learned that the bugbear's name was Boris, that there was a Mavi involved, and that they were all sent by the Janus group who turned out to be a bastard son of the Lord Marcus. Spymaster then went on his way.
