🌓 Nocturnal Prince 🌓 | Chapter I - DPR Ian/Christian Yu x Reader | Werewolf Fic
Pairing: Christian Yu/DPR Ian x reader (nicknamed Vixen)
Chapter word count: 2k
Status: ongoing
Summary: Sometimes the most powerful of curses can be shattered by the strength of love. Or they turn someone into the cruelest version of themselves. The Prince of Avalon, Christian Yu, stopped believing a long time ago that one day someone would truly love him and break his curse.
He’s a werewolf, roaming the forest close to Ravenswood by night, terrorizing and destroying everything that comes along his path with his pack of fearless werewolf soldiers. Everyone knows to stay out of the woods at night.
Meanwhile, in Ravenswood, Vixen struggles to be accepted as the "new girl" at college. As a fox shifter, that's not so easy, which is why she takes on the daring challenge of entering the forest at night and lasting until dawn.
A night of fear and terror begins and soon Vixen is running for her life from a pack of wolves that hunt her without mercy. Much to Christina's chagrin, the fox shifter survives until dawn and escapes his forest. But not without catching a glimpse of him, which changes everything for both. He can't believe she's made it out alive and begins to feel a stirring within him that he hasn't felt in a long time – hope.
He starts to follow Vixen, watching her from the shadows, and slowly begins to realize that she might be the key to breaking his curse. As he watches her navigate the challenges of being the new girl in town, Christian starts to see that Vixen is not like the other shapeshifters and magical creatures of Ravenswood and breaks one of his most important rules: never seek contact with anyone outside his pack.
Chapter 1
1993 – Christian’s POV
Ravenswood – what an insult this city was. I roamed the outskirts of town, watching the residents with hatred and disgust. They had demanded too much for centuries, understood too little.
A shadow standing in front of the town hall caught my attention. A glance at the silhouette made me snort with hatred. The mayor. An impostor, hypocrite, and heretic. How naive the citizens of Ravenswood were, not suspecting that the real danger was not my wolf pack, but their dearly beloved mayor himself. Without him, Avalon would never have fallen. Without him––
"Your Highness, we should take this opportunity to attack immediately," Youngwoo interrupted my thoughts.
I shook my head. "No."
"But my king, I––"
"I said no," I hissed, baring my teeth.
Youngwoo submissively bowed his head and slowly retreated into the thicket of the woods. The rest of his pack departed as well, leaving me lingering alone a little longer.
"One day, Uncle ..." I thought to myself before my loud howl rose into the dark night sky.
2023 – Vixen’s POV
New decade, new college - this time my fox-shifter existence had led me to Ravenswood. The town radiated something ominous, but I was probably just imagining it. This, or it was just the fact that I was surrounded by too many humans. After all, I had never met anyone like me yet. Either there was only me or other shifters could hide their identity better; I certainly didn't belong to them.
With my amber eyes and silver-black hair, I looked more like a freak than a normal college student everywhere I went. No one looked like me. And if that wasn't complicated enough, my lack of aging, now for three decades, was another problem.
Sometimes I wondered if I wasn't more of a vampire, or was I even trapped in the Matrix? Then, however, the annoying little blackouts happened again and again, in which I transformed into a silver fox usually in the most inappropriate situations. The one or other one-night-stand almost had a heart attack because of that.
Long-term relationships with people were not possible, they all always asked too many questions at some point. So I roamed around like a damn stray, looking for - yes, what for anyway?
The campus of Ravenswood's college was lined with tall pines and dense copper beeches, the old brick building at the end of the gravel path looking almost medieval. Some students ran frantically to the building, a few others lounged peacefully on the wide meadow areas beneath the trees. A typical campus, one might think. But my fox shifter sense told me otherwise. Something was troubling me, piquing my caution and curiosity at the same time.
"Quick, before we miss Mayor Yu’s speech," I heard a student excitedly call out to his companion as he ran past.
A mayoral speech at the beginning of college - strange. I only knew something like that for graduation, but well, different state, different customs. Let's see what this mayor had to say, I had to enroll and choose my courses anyway.
Just before the huge front door, I paused. I was nervous. What if I almost get exposed again? Or worse, what if I got exposed? People haven't shown me much sympathy so far, that's for sure. I took a few deep breaths, focused on the one thought that had always helped me so far: you can always run away again.
I clung to the shoulder straps of my backpack and stepped inside.
The college building smelled moldy and of something I couldn't quite place. Metallic, almost like ... blood? I shuddered and pushed the thought away. Don't be ridiculous, Vixen. I followed the stream of excited students down the corridor to the largest lecture hall, which was already well filled.
I took a seat at the back of the room, right next to a good-looking, broad-shouldered guy. He had pink hair and smiled mischievously at me as I sat down. I gave him a small smile back and quickly looked away.
"Why so shy, beautiful?" he said, chuckling.
I rolled my eyes. What a greaseball. Why were most good-looking guys always so obnoxious?
As if he could read my mind, he muttered an apology, followed by something else.
I looked up. "What?"
He smiled warmly at me. "I said my name is Mingi. I didn't want to make you feel uncomfortable because of me."
"That's fine. My name is Vixen," I mumbled back, nervously stroking through my strands of hair.
Even after years of experience with guys and jerks, one or another still managed to get under my skin. Annoying. But okay, just ignore it. But apparently this Mingi had other ideas.
"So, do you know what major classes you want to take here yet?" he asked me with open interest. Okay, maybe I should give him another chance, he seemed to just wanting to be nice.
"Psychology and eschatology. What about you?"
He whistled and gave me an appreciative nod. "Interesting combination. Few people are interested in eschatology. I chose that course, too."
That's when my foxish curiosity was piqued. A person who was apparently really interested in eschatology? That was new to me. "What fascinates you about it?" I asked him.
Mingi eyed me closely and pursed his lips before answering. "Death, resurrection and the life that comes after, it's a family thing."
I looked at him in confusion. "In what way? Are you gravediggers, religious, or …?"
He laughed out loud and scratched the back of his neck. "Something like that."
I waited for him to say more, but he looked into the crowd and fixated on a group of other students. They were coming right toward us. I was about to slip away when the group took a seat in the row in front of us and Mingi wrapped his arm around my shoulders.
"Guys, this is Vixen. She's going to study the same as me," he exclaimed and I earned some strange looks.
The girl in front of me with the black bob haircut tapped her cheek and lowered her voice. "Ah, so you're one of those––"
"Tyra," Mingi interrupted her.
Tyra exchanged a look with him and leaned back. "Didn't say anything."
Okay, that was the last straw. My curiosity was literally bursting and I wanted to know more about whatever she was talking about. "Is it that unusual to be interested in eschatology?"
The other three people of the group, two guys and another girl, looked up. The guy with the blue hair was the first to speak up.
"Let's put it this way. No one who doesn't have to study this," he then squinted at Mingi, who downright growled, "chooses this subject. So, what family are you from?"
Oh, Jesus, this just got more complicated. And more interesting. Damn. So I decided to fib.
"Amos." The ninth chapter of the Book of Twelve Prophets. I hoped to hit the mark with this answer.
The acknowledging nod he gave and the slight sighs confirmed my theory. Bingo. There was nothing better than uncovering mysteries and conspiracies in small towns to pass the time. And to keep my fox-shifting ability in check. Oddly enough, when I was dealing with such things, I had better control over my transformations.
The blue-haired guy spoke again. "I'm Puma. You already know Tyra and Mingi, that one next to me is Yong," he pointed to the little guy next to him, "and the silent beauty next to Tyra is Sora."
I memorized all of their names and was also kind of happy to have made connections so quickly. And about my new task of uncovering another mystery. I was about to say something in response when a deafening chime rang out and made me flinch.
The lecture hall fell into silence, a pale man with only one eye appeared behind the small podium. His gaze swept over the crowd scrutinizingly, no one daring to make a sound. Interesting. After another long pause, he took over.
"Dear students, I welcome you to Ravenswood College. As probably everyone here knows, my name is Arthur Yu, the mayor of this city," whereupon the crowd applauded enthusiastically, "As every year, I would like to share a word of wisdom. God gives every bird its food, but does not throw it into the nest." What kind of strange wisdom was that? "Study hard, learn harder, and above all, stay out of the woods. Thank you."
I barely noticed the thunderous applause, the last words echoing over and over in my head - stay out of the woods. I had barely noticed that Mingi and the others had gotten up to leave until he shook my shoulders.
"Vixen, are you coming?" he asked, and I nodded.
I quickly grabbed my backpack and slung it over my shoulder to follow them wherever. What was it about the woods? I hadn't noticed anything unusual when I arrived here a few days ago. No suspicious smells, noises, nothing.
We were walking down the corridor, out onto campus, when the question blurted out to me. "What about the woods?"
The group stopped abruptly, all turning to look at me. Mingi gave me a slight smile.
"Nothing," he replied.
Puma, however, snorted snidely and took a step forward. "Come on, loverboy. Let her find out. Tonight."
I looked at him, puzzled. "Tonight? What am I supposed to find out, exactly?"
Mingi didn't seem to approve of the idea, but Puma and the others pushed him aside and circled me. My fox instincts jumped and at the same time my curiosity continued to grow. What a load of crap.
"Well, you'll have to figure that out for yourself. Come to the woods tonight. Ten minutes, that's all you need to walk in. Wait a minute and you'll find out," Puma said in a conspiratorial tone.
I narrowed my eyes and took a step back.
"You guys are bullshitting me right now. The mayor––"
Tyra spoke next. "Sweetie, he just said that to avoid nasty headlines about pollution and shit. We've had a few conflicts with the state the years before about students littering the woods too much. There's nothing to be afraid of in there. It's even very beautiful at night." She looked at the others and gestured to everyone. "We regularly sneak into the woods to hang out for a bit. You should come along."
If it was nothing else. I nodded and gave her a small smile. "Alright, I'll see you later then. I'm afraid I have to go now!" And with that, I skipped down the last few stairs and hurried across campus, back to my new apartment. Tonight I would just be a typical student for once. So much for no new friends.
The hours flew by and Tyra had sent me the location of our hangout in the woods. I was getting ready when night fell. Good, that should do it. I quickly grabbed my phone and headed out.
At the edge of town, I took a quick look around before disappearing into the thicket of the forest. Quickly the branches became so dense that I was glad to have put on a jacket. Thanks to my fox traits, I had no trouble seeing ahead of me at night. I glanced at my phone again to make sure I was about to arrive at the meeting point. Just under a quarter of a mile to go.
Another 200 meters, 100, 50, 10, 5 ... I ended up at a clearing. The moon bathed the surrounding trees in a ghostly white. I looked around, but found no one of Mingi's people anywhere. Had I taken a wrong turn? Was there another clearing? I quickly pulled out my phone and checked the location. No, I was in the right place. I just started typing a message to Tyra when I heard it. A howl.
A fucking loud howl. And it was closer than I was comfortable with. I let my eyes wander frantically over the surrounding trees and bushes, and that's when I saw it. Yellow eyes. Not just one pair, but four or five. And they were all focused on me at the far end of the clearing. Wolves.
The bloodcurdling growl made me back up slowly until I reached the edge of the clearing. Then I turned and ran. And all I could hear were the snarls of my pursuers.

Chapter 2
Christian’s POV
An innocent little lamb has strayed directly into my clearing. I almost feel something like pity at her shocked look, but my wolf instincts are stronger. I must hunt her down. And kill her. No one enters these woods and comes out alive.
I growl a few orders to my pack as the poor thing with the silver-black hair decides to run off. So foolish. My hunting instincts cry out for blood now.
Youngwoo leads my pack into the surrounding thicket, we will soon encircle her and then there will be no escape. For a brief moment I pause, trying to remember why I'm doing this at all, why she has to die ... the howl of my general snaps me out of my thoughts and back into the instant. Too great is the pleasure of hunting to resist it.
I run, catching up quickly. I happen to be the alpha of this pack for a reason. Soon I can see her again, running desperately for her life.
She breathes hastily, I can hear her desperate heartbeat, can listen to the branches crack under her erratic steps, can smell her fear dripping from her skin. Don't worry, I'll make it short, little lamb.
My pack falls back as it should, the kill is always mine. I continue to follow her, feeling almost intoxicated by her scent of fear. She turns sharply around an old copper beech; I follow her and then ... she is gone.
What the fuck? I stop, glancing around in irritation. Her scent has also disappeared. Her heartbeat is undetectable. What the hell?! She can't just vanish into thin air.
I try to pick up her scent again, but nothing. No human is in these woods anymore. Yet we are still a good distance from the town border. I signal my pack to retreat. This hunt no longer makes sense. But still, I must investigate this.
"Shall I help you, my king?" Youngwoo asks me over our mind link.
I decline. I'm not in the mood for his know-it-all advice. Whatever trick this person has just pulled, I will find out for myself.
I sniff the area for a while when the scent of a fox hits my nostrils. There are no foxes in these woods. Not anymore. Since Avalon's downfall, the only predators here have been us wolves.
And there I see it - a silver fox. It sneaks through the undergrowth, straight towards the town border. I'm usually not interested in other animals, but there's something about this fox that piques my curiosity. It almost looks like ... no, that's nonsense. And yet I follow it, but at a respectable distance.
We are getting closer and closer to Ravenswood, the trees are getting thinner, the dazzling glow of the streetlights shimmers slightly through the leaves. I slow my pace. I don't feel like picking a fight with these lunatic eschatology students.
They all come from centuries-old families who have made it their main task to justify their atrocities under the shelter of religion, yet they are nothing more than charlatans who use black magic to bring down kingdoms and bring out creatures like me. And to kill such creatures as me. I hate them all.
I suppress the thoughts and focus again on the fox, which to my surprise passes the town border and is suddenly no longer a fox at all. In front of me is the same girl that I had hunted just a moment ago. A fox shifter.
That is impossible. Apart from my pack, there are no more shapeshifters. The eschatology fanatics have made sure of that. However, I also can't deny what I just saw. She has transformed. Bumpy, to be sure, but it was clearly a transformation. What is she doing in this damn town? Once someone finds out about her, she's as good as dead! I must warn her, she––
The fox girl continues walking down the street that leads to the town and turns around once more. Her silver-black hair whips in her face, but that doesn't stop her amber eyes from boring into mine, and for a brief moment, time stops.
"Don't." Youngwoo is suddenly standing next to me, in his human form, holding me back. It's only then that I realize I had transformed back, too. Fuck, I've never lost control of my transformations before!
When I look up again, she's gone.
Vixen’s POV
Wolves. Did Mingi's clique actually want to fuck with me?! So much for they would meet in the forest to hang out. I was lured out there like a piece of meat! I'm... I'm...
I take a deep breath. No need to get so upset, Vixen, I say to myself. In the end, I made the decision myself to befriend random people and believe them naively. No, it wasn't even that I acted out of naivety. It was, as always, my goddamn curiosity! It would really cost me my head one day.
I had never been so close to death before. And I had never seen other shapeshifters. This guy with the countless tattoos was definitely the wolf that had been hunting me.
I would have loved to question him, somehow I felt a strange connection to him, but then his big buddy showed up. No, thanks. I don't intend to end up as a wolf bite tonight. So I ran home.
Exhaustion hits me full force as I lock the door to my apartment and take off my boots and jacket. That's enough Mission Impossible-like action for the rest of my life. I need to get some sleep. And ... ugh, I smell like an ox. I should jump in the shower first.
The hot water turns my thoughts back to the guy with the tattoos, his intense gaze, his muscles ... Vixen, what the hell? I'm still far from my heat for these six months, which makes these lustful thoughts even more inappropriate. And hello? I cannot lust after my chaser, can I? That would be absurd.
Nope. I must pull myself together. Just shower, sleep and confront Mingi and the others in the morning. Yep, that's exactly how I will do it.
And yet, the dark-haired wolf shifter haunts my dreams that night.

My body felt like it had been run over––my skull was humming, my limbs ached, and I felt strained muscles in places I didn't even know you could have muscles in. My sleep had been very restless, I had woken up several times expecting the dark-haired wolf-shifter to haunt me and ... and what actually? I did not really feel fear when I saw him in my dreams, more great curiosity and somehow still an inexplicable attraction.
I'm sure that's just because he's a wolf-shifter and was suddenly shirtless, I told myself. Hah. If I just told that myself long enough, maybe I would believe it.
The walk to campus was like running through thick fog, my thoughts just couldn't let go of last night, causing me to collide with a large hunk of muscle. The beefcake of a guy turned around slowly, my eyes widening, my hands clutching my backpack. Shit. Mr. Wolfie's big friend.
He looked down at me, a dangerous grin presenting his gleaming white teeth wandering across his hard features.
"I knew you'd come here, little fox," he said in a menacing tone that almost made me shudder. Almost. I wasn't foolish enough to let him know that he was unleashing pure horror in me right now.
That stupid smirk of superiority. I straightened my shoulders and stared at him with exactly the same sternness.
"I don't know what you're talking about, big guy, but you're in my way," I hissed and pushed past him, bumping into him with pure intent.
I heard his incredulous laughter and how he started moving to follow me. Stubborn jerk.
The beefcake quickly caught up and walked beside me with far too little distance. His voice sounded less threatening now, however that didn't take the intimidation out of his words.
"Listen, little fox. If it were up to me, I would have torn you apart last night, so take this as your last warning: get out of this town while you still can. This is no place for shapeshifters."
I paused, which also made him stop, and turned to him abruptly. "And what are YOU still doing here then?", I asked him cheekily. Just don't show any fear. I had learned that much in my life –never let your opponent know when you're about to pee your pants.
He snorted, his muscles tensing under the way-too-tight black shirt and his jaw cracking. Breathe, Vixen. He couldn't hurt me on campus, could he? Right?
The giant leaned down toward me, the subtle scent of wolf lingering. "This is absolutely none of your business. Just get out of here, okay?"
Then he straightened up and left with hurried steps. Well, that was one way to start the day. I watched him until he was just a dark dot among the trees that lined the green spaces of the campus, then he merged with the thicket of the forest.
"Well sweetie, how was the forest?" Tyra's sugary sweet voice brought me back to the moment and made the pent-up anger from last night boil up inside me again. So they all knew. I turned to her and there they all stood – Mingi, Puma, Tyra Yong, Sora.
I was about to suck in my breath and begin my angry tirade when Mingi held up his hands in a placating manner.
"Let us just explain this for a minute, Vixen, okay?"
When I said nothing and looked at them all expectantly, Mingi took a deep breath.
"We weren't quite sure if you were one of us," he said, and they all nodded in agreement. So they were shapeshifters too?
"Only members of the Eternal Darkness make it out of this forest alive. When you said you were studying the same subject as Mingi, we already had hope, but weren't quite sure yet. Forgive us for our dare, or whatever you want to call it, but we are always very careful before accepting new ones into our clique," Sora continued.
What. The. Hell. Members of the Eternal Darkness? I don't think I've ever heard anything more ridiculous, and I really had to pull myself together not to burst out laughing. But I decided to play along. I still knew too little to decide otherwise.
With a relieved snort, I brushed a strand of hair behind my ear. "And I was beginning to think you were kidding me."
Everyone broke into relaxed banter, and I had difficulty following their words, but smiled slightly to myself. Mingi swung his arm around my shoulders, and we walked together to the lecture hall.
Some questions followed about my night, whether I had seen the wolves, how many there were, how I had escaped them, and how many I had killed. Ah well. So that's what the Eternal Darkness is all about.
Mingi seemed to feel my tension because he quickly distracted. "Guys, let her digest the night first. I'm sure Vixen will tell us everything about it tonight at my house party. Right, Vix?"
I nodded. "Get ready for a thrilling story," I said in a conspiratorial manner, hoping they would take the bait.
Much to my relief, none of them seemed to suspect anything.
What the hell had I gotten myself into?
Christian’s POV
I couldn't help but send Youngwoo off to warn her. She should not stay in Ravenswood. No shapeshifter should be here. This cold war between the mayor and me should not involve innocent souls. Not anymore. I had made the mistake of calling for help once. The losses were too high.
I still couldn't get her piercing amber eyes out of my head. She had awakened something in me that I had thought had been buried. Something I shouldn't cling to because it was pointless. Hope. A little word that could do so much damage.
I wandered up and down within my four walls, nervously waiting for Youngwoo's report on whether she had taken flight in the meantime. Much to my surprise, she had not immediately packed her things and left, no. She had simply taken a shower and then fallen asleep.
No one in their right mind, who had been chased by my wolf pack shortly before, would do such a thing. Well, no one except foxes. Foxes have always been the most curious and brazen shapeshifters, and even if there hadn't been any for decades, that didn't seem to have changed much.
Youngwoo shoved my door open without asking and stomped in with heavy steps. Normally I would chide him for this, but he seemed enraged.
I crossed my arms and leaned against the stone windowsill. "Well?" was all I asked him.
I seemed to have struck a nerve with that, because Youngwoo snorted in annoyance and pinched the bridge of his nose before hitting the stone wall. As if this ancient castle wasn't already a ruin ....
"She didn’t back down and hangs out with these eschatology nuts," he scoffed.
Not even I had expected that. Either she had absolutely no idea what this town was about and how dangerous these freaks were, or she was damn smart. Either way, I was intrigued by her.
"What should we do about her now, Alpha?" Youngwoo asked, concern audible despite his displeasure.
"I'll keep an eye on her," I told Youngwoo, and before he could protest, I added, "I'm your alpha, remember?"
"All right, Ian ... but be careful. You've never lost control over your transformations before, and I don't want our pack to be without an alpha because of a worthless little fox," he muttered before he left the room.
"Maybe she's worth more than we all realize," I whispered to myself.
I spent the next few days following her and finding out how much she knew. As far as I could tell, she was a lost lamb in a lion's den. That was more than bad.
And the natural attraction I felt to her wasn't helping much either. At first I thought it was just my protective instinct as an alpha. Then I thought it was that bullshit thought of hope, but nope. It was my fucking wolf instincts trying to make her mine. Geez, make it make sense why a wolf would want to mate with a fox.

🌓 Nocturnal Prince 🌓
Pairing: Christian Yu x reader (nicknamed Vixen)
Wordcount: N/A
Summary: Sometimes the most powerful of curses can be shattered by the strength of love.
Teaser:
"I can smell your fear," Christian growled, already turning away. In the end, they all reacted the same way.
"Fear is a feeling, being afraid is a choice. I choose to not be afraid," Vixen said, making him stop in his tracks.
He turned again, a sinister grin gracing his boyish features. With long strides he stood directly in front of Vixen, making her stumble in surprise against the pine tree behind her. His dark brown eyes roamed over her face, searching for any sign of fear, but all he could discern was pure curiosity. Of course. Goddamn foxes.
"Your curiosity will get you killed eventually," he said.
Vixen leaned forward, inches from his lips, a challenging glint lurking in her eyes. "I could say the same thing to you. Lurking around the outskirts of town as a wolf during the day just to see me is the stupidest thing I've ever observed," she shot back.
That broke Christian's perfectly thought-out mask and he looked at her puzzled, his cheeks turning red within seconds. "That...I...I didn't...," he stammered and leaned back a bit to put distance between them again.
"Say what you will, wolfie, but you're not as smooth with your watching as you thought," Vixen said nonchalantly, giving him a cheeky grin before walking back to the street. Realizing that Christian wasn't following her, still standing speechless and flushed in the same spot, she called over her shoulder, "Are you coming or not?"
Rule number four: never enter Ravenswood. How many more rules would he break for her? Probably all of them. And he wouldn't regret a thing about it.
Author’s note: Well, here we are. I’m feeling inspired for some Christian Yu werewolf fanfic, there’s not a lot of fanfic for him, so let’s change that now 🌚

Thank you *bows*. Like I mentioned when I first shared it, this idea has been in my draft for quite some time. Jungkook's photobook and Ian's MITO concept coming out almost at the same time gave me this idea. Glad to finally reveal it and that people seems to be interested lol
I might have to finish Chance Encounter first before getting into this one, though...
