I would totally support a Downton Abbey spin off where Anna and Edith team up to investigate some stuff (nothing too tragic) and Mary has to follow because a) she doesn't want to be left out (and wanna some fun) and b) well the girls don't give her any choice, really.
(This is me thinking there wasn't enough Anna Bates in the new DA movie and I really though Edith was going all investigation reporter for a sec 🤷‍♀️)

Thank you for providing a window into how you guys tend to HC the Thomas/Guy relationship! I was definitely wondering/asking how much you guys see the employee/PA aspect as defining for their relationship or just, for example, as a convenient outside cover with little or no applicability on the inside. So your answers aren’t off-base at all but very enlightening.
I feel I have to state that the view that “in a marriage where one partner has a demanding outside career, it falls naturally to the other [to manage the household, travel & every day stuff etc.]” is only one specific view of marriage, bc obviously there are also successful and fulfilling marriages where both partners have a demanding outside career, and also marriages where the “housewife” would thank you for acknowledging that it’s a freely chosen role for them and not their “natural” predestination… but luckily there’s no right or wrong there, only preferences, or different views of what an ideal marriage looks like. One person’s dream come true can literally be someone else’s nightmare, in that department.
I also hugely appreciate your use of the words “we presume… ”, “we picture…”, “we expect…”, that’s so unusual and refreshing.
I’m also intrigued by the assumption that Guy “will be generous with salary/presents” - is this just a cute HC that you like, or is it based on anything in the film? (Since you mention it in the section that you say you infer directly from the film.) I don’t recall them discussing material aspects at all (except for Guy’s warning that his career may fold), but I may be misremembering?
I also have questions about the particular HC that Thomas will quickly move on to do more agent/management work, rather than domestic/household/PA stuff, so they can be viewed as more equal by outsiders (i. e. Thomas getting invited to parties/social stuff along with Guy). I don’t recall Guy making any promises like that or offering that prospect in the film either, so I assume that’s pure fanon, too? Does anyone in the ship wonder what it’ll feel like for Thomas until he gets to that more equal position, to be left behind every time Guy gets to have a social life, because Guy can’t justify taking his PA/household manager to parties etc., and how the two of them will deal with that?
Asking in good faith for meta or any thoughts on this question regarding Thomas Barrow's storyline in Downton Abbey: A New Era:
Why is becoming another man's servant and lover combined the best thing that could have happened to Thomas?
Some people seem to absolutely adore the idea of the servant & lover package as something that is especially suitable and beneficial for Thomas. Others cringe at the idea and feel that Thomas of all people would not be happy in that kind of arrangement at all. The range of opinions on this particular matter is staggering.
I've seen a lot of the cringe view but very little so far about the potential positive aspects. But I'm really interested in understanding what the people who like the servant-plus-lover combination see in it for Thomas and why they feel it's perfect for him, especially with regards to his personality and his history as seen in the show.
So if you've written or come across any meta that explains the benefits of the servant-plus-lover role for Thomas (or if you feel inspired to write it now), I'd really appreciate a link or a tag. Or of course just comment on this post with your thoughts!
(I know there's also a school of thought that assumes the "job" is just for show and Thomas will not be working for Guy at all, or get some other job outside Guy's household asap… but I don't get the feeling that HC is universal? Correct me if I'm wrong.)

Just say Dowton Abbey a new era. really liked it. I almost cried at the start and did cry at the end even though i knew what was coming .
Loved the scene in the french hat shop where Carson bristles when Maude Bagshaw is called his wife . Maude Bagshaw is played by Jim Carter's real life wife Imelda Staunton

Among many interviews over « A new era », Jonathan Zaccaï playing the role of the marquis de Montmirail owner of the villa, speaks about his experience with the Dowton team. Here the two last paragraphs in which he says really kind things about Bredan Coyle or mr Bates. "The 51-year-old actor was charmed by the camaraderie uniting the historical actors of the saga. “More than a troupe, it's a real family of astonishing humility”. And of memory: “Imelda Staunton had just learned during her last day of filming that she had been chosen to camp Elizabeth II in the new seasons of The Crown. By way of farewell, she gave us a little wave like the queen! The opportunity also for the actor who writes his second novel to tell Brendan Coyle all the admiration he had for him. “We didn't have scenes together but I was touched in full by the character of Bates (the valet of the Earl of Grantham, editor's note) and his fights”. Another regret, never having met the icon Maggie Smith. On the other hand, he will not miss the shapely face he had to wear for Montmirail: “I felt as naked as a plucked chicken”, he concludes with a great burst of laughter."
