So, I've been in the process of developing a Shadowhunters AU fic for my Thai BL Crossover Bingo card...
...and it occurred to me, that while there exists some overlap between the fandoms, there are probably a few Thai QL fans who've never read the book series or seen the tv show--if they've even heard of Shadowhunters at all.
So... MAY I PRESENT TO YOU HALLOWPEN'S:
What are 'shadowhunters'? Shadowhunters, or "Nephilim", are the angels' chosen warriors who have been granted 'heavenly' gifts in order to maintain balance in the shadow world. In short, they have been designated to protect normal humans (known as "mundanes") from demonic creatures.
Runes: Shadowhunters gain their power from angelic markings called "runes", each having their own designated ability (i.e stamina, courage in combat, agility, precision, etc.). These marks can be applied to their bodies or physical objects/weapons by using a "stele" (steh-lay). A stele can also re-activate a rune that was already previously inscribed. It's essentially a shadowhunter's magic wand.
Adamas: The Iron Sisters are a group of specialized shadowhunters who use the holy metal known as "adamas" to forge the nephilim's tools and weapons. The standard weapon for all shadowhunters is called a "seraph blade" which can be activated once it's name is called. Shadowhunters name their blades after the various angels.
Other than seraph blades, each shadowhunter might have a different preferred weapon of choice.
What are "downworlders'? Any species of a known demonic origin, that are not considered to be fully 'demon', are called downworlders. They include: werewolves and vampires who are labeled as victims of 'demonic' infections, faeries who are a varied mix of angel and demon, and warlocks who are the offspring of demons and mundanes (warlocks can be identified by their unique warlock marks). Downworlders are often negatively stereotyped by shadowhunters given their demonic bloodlines, regardless to the fact that they are not considered inherently evil.
Other Important Terms:
Institute- Institutes serve as the power base for all local shadowhunters. They exist worldwide and house Nephilim forces in the city in which they reside. Those in charge, often the Head of the Institute, oversee all tactical missions.
Parabatai- Shadowhunters who have taken an oath to fight together as lifelong partners are called "parabatai". A shadowhunter can have only one parabatai in their lifetime, as the sacred ritual cannot be performed more than once. Parabatai are bonded through their shared parabatai runes, and that bond can only be broken in death (at which point, the runes painfully fade away).
The Clave- When Shadowhunters reach the age of adulthood (18), they declare their allegiance and become full members of the Clave. It is the collective name for the political body made up of all active Nephilim. The Clave is governed by an elected body of representatives known as "The Council". The Council is presided over by the Clave's highest appointed official: the Consul (who holds little to no executive power but is the leading authority in interpreting the Law).
The Mortal Cup- The Mortal Cup is the means by which new Nephilim are created. The Cup has transformative properties that are imbued with angelic power. Drinking from it will transform a mundane into a shadowhunter, though the process can have fatal risks and does not always work. Those in direct possession of the Cup are afforded protection from demons and gain some authority over them.
Idris- The shadowhunters’ secret home country, Idris, is hidden in Central Europe by powerful glamours and wards. It’s capital, and only city, is Alicante. The Council resides there, and it is where Clave meetings are held.
'Need-to-Know' Shadowhunter History: A shadowhunter named Valentine Morgenstern once led an uprising against the Clave in order to wipe out all species of downworlders. In case of his failure, his contingency plan was to experiment on his children in order to create the perfect 'shadowhunter' weapon to carry on his legacy. He injected his son, Jonathan, with the blood of the mother of all demons: Lilith. His daughter, Clary Fairchild, was injected with the blood of the angel Ithuriel. Valentine's initial uprising does, indeed, fail and he fakes his and Jonathan's deaths. Clary stays with her mother and eventually winds up at the New York Institute.
At a point where Valentine reveals himself to be alive, he uses Jonathan to set his new plan (to rid the world of the "tainted" shadowhunters and replace them with a new army) into motion. Jonathan kills and takes over the identity of a shadowhunter named Sebastian Verlac. He infiltrates the ranks of the New York shadowhunters by befriending his sister, Clary. While pretending to be one of the 'good guys', his demon-laced blood was instrumental in allowing Valentine's demon hordes to infiltrate and terrorize the city of Alicante. At the end of what would be known as "The Mortal War", Sebastian is defeated and killed.
He is eventually resurrected by his "surrogate mother", Lilith. Completely corrupted by his demon blood and void of any humanity, Sebastian is mad with power. He becomes obsessed with creating his own army to rule over the entire shadow world. Sebastian is successful in the creation of a demonic equivalent to the Mortal Cup. The Infernal Cup, imbued by Lilith's demonic magic, can be used to change a shandowhunter's angelic allegiance to a demonic one. Once transformed, these new 'endarkened' shadowhunters can be controlled by whoever is in possession of the cup. In this case: Sebastian Morgenstern.
I think that's all you should need to know before diving in. The rest should explain itself. A link to the fic will be posted soon!!!

I've been tweeting #SaveShadowhunters like crazy at TV networks, I've requested Shadowhunters to Netflix a bunch of times, and I chatted with Ann Pauline M via Netflix customer support and got a general 'there will be 12 episodes for you to look forward to' response. Have I earned a drabble? If so, can it be Malec in an AU where the downworlders are in charge?
Here we go, nonny! I wanted to do this right because I love this “what if” scenario. I couldn’t just wing it, you know?
Hope you like the result! Available on AO3 as well.
It wasn’t the first time that a Shadowhunter tried to get to the Soul Sword. In the little more than twenty years since it’s been under Magnus’ protection, he could safely estimate the fools had tried to recover the Soul Sword at least a dozen times. Truth be told, most of those attempts happened right after the Uprising and the installment of the Downworlder Council, when the Shadowhunters hoped to reverse the new system of government. That hope was gone now, but the occasional hero-wannabe still tried to do it every now and then.
Of course, none of them succeeded. It was no coincidence that the Mortal Instrument was given to Magnus Bane to safeguard. He had worked with Shadowhunters a lot during the Old Times, back when Shadowhunters were in charge of the Shadow World. If there was one Downworlder that knew how the Shadowhunters operated, it was Magnus. There was nobody better for the job.
The Mortal Instruments were the only thing that kept the Shadowhunters in line with the new regime. As long as the Downworlders had them, the Clave would obey. Magnus still remembered the day that Luke Garroway pried the Soul Sword out of Valentine’s cold, dead hands. Blood dripped out of it, both Shadowhunter and Downworlder blood. The other two Mortal Instruments, the Cup and the Mirror, were respectively given to the Seelies and the Vampires to guard. But Magnus got the Sword.
You keep this away from them, Luke Garroway had told him. He had been just a boy then, a shadow of the man he became two decades later. Promise me.
And Magnus promised. He had looked into the eyes of that young man and seen no fear, only determination. The brave, serious eyes of a man who wanted to protect his people and do the right thing.
Just like the eyes that were staring at him now. Only, these eyes belonged to a young Shadowhunter. One that had - rather impressively - found a way through Magnus’ protection wards and gotten to the chamber where Magnus kept the Soul Sword.
He had come with a squad; a blonde man, a red-haired girl, and a black-haired woman. They defeated Magnus’ protection wards, penetrated his fortress like it was nothing. Magnus had to personally deal with each one of them as they also were smart enough to divide to keep him busy. The group had been efficient, well-trained, and almost successful.
Almost. After dealing with the others, Magnus had stopped the man right before he could take the Soul Sword. Now, it laid between them, its presence just overbearing as it was in the Uprising.
“Should I ask for your Hunting Permit?” Magnus said, cocking his head to the side. The Shadowhunter narrowed his eyes at him, but he couldn’t do much more. Magnus had him paralyzed, which was the one thing that stopped the man from losing the arrow pointed at Magnus’ heart.
For a second, Magnus expected the man to curse him, but he did something else instead. He cleared his throat. “I do have one,” the Shadowhunter said, voice neutral. Aside from direct calls from Downworlder Leaders, Hunting Permits were the only other way a Shadowhunter was allowed to leave Idris. “There is a hoard of Shax demons in this neighborhood and my team was hunting them down.”
Magnus almost laughed. It wasn’t a lie; he had heard about the demons. Magnus also didn’t think the Shadowhunter expected him to believe the excuse. But the way that the man had said it, the practicality of it as if he had predicted someone would ask... Magnus couldn’t help but snort.
“Too bad you didn’t stick to the mission, Shadowhunter.” Magnus sighed. “With some luck, you and your friends will be locked up for life instead of executed. It would be a shame to cut off that pretty head of yours.”
The Shadowhunter blinked, surprise coloring his face. But then he gasped. “My sister- Is she still alive?”
Magnus cursed his heart when it jumped at the man’s tone. The worry in it, the relief… Magnus knew very well how it felt to realize someone he loved had survived a battle. Angel or demon blood, they were all human in their own way. The young man in front of him loved and hurt, just like him.
Gritting his teeth, Magnus pushed that thought aside. That young man had tried to steal the Soul Sword, he was not to be pitied. Magnus would not go back to the Old Times. The Shadowhunters had taken too much from him.
But that didn’t mean he had to sink to their levels of cruelty. He was probably referring to the black-haired woman. She looked just like the man, beautiful and dangerous. Magnus had knocked her out with a spell but there shouldn’t be any side-effects except for a headache.
“She’s alive,” Magnus finally said. He moved his hand, feeling the power run through his veins. “Let go of your weapon now and I’ll ask the Downworlder Council to be lenient. If you tell the Council who put you up to steal the Soul Sword, they might-”
“We came on our own,” the Shadowhunter interrupted him tersely. But he did let go of the weapon and the bow and arrow fell to the ground. Half a point for that.
Magnus wasn’t surprised the young man wouldn’t tell on his superiors. Everyone knew the Clave would never accept the defeat and submission. They trained their youth to stay loyal to a fault. Still, it didn’t hurt to ask-
“But we didn’t come here to steal the Soul Sword,” the Shadowhunter continued. “We came here to destroy it.”
Magnus blinked, surprised to say the least. That was new. No Shadowhunter in their right mind would even dare to think such a thing. They worshipped the Mortal Instruments almost as much as the Angel himself. It had to be some sort of trick.
Thinking quickly, Magnus pulled the bow and quiver away from the Shadowhunter and gestured to the Soul Sword. “Touch it and say that again.”
The Shadowhunter gasped when he regained the control over his body. He inhaled sharply and his eyes went right to his bow. He probably considered it was too far away to reach and, instead, stepped closer to the Soul Sword, laying his hands over it.
The Sword began to glow, a pale shimmer raising all around it. The Shadowhunter gritted his teeth, breathing in and out. “My team and I came here to find and destroy the Soul Sword,” he said, loud and clear. It seemed the Mortal Instrument did compel the truth after all. And it wasn’t done. “Before the Clave can use it to destroy all demon-blooded creatures.”
Magnus’ heart skipped a beat. “Move away,” he ordered and the Shadowhunter obliged, stepping away until his back was against the wall. Recomposing himself, Magnus smiled. It helped to wash away the surprise from his face. “I don’t think we’ve been formally introduced. My name is Magnus Bane.”
“I know,” the Shadowhunter practically spat. He blinked, clearing his throat as if to start again. “Hm, Alec Lightwood,” he said and for some reason pointed at himself.
Strangely cute. And also… a Lightwood? The surprises didn’t seem to end.
“All right, Alec.” Magnus narrowed his eyes at him. “I’m going to trust you.” Maybe it was a wrong move, but Magnus felt Alec had earned it by now. He hadn’t been holding the truth-compelling sword when he revealed his true plans. That should count for something.
Or so Magnus hoped. “Now,” he said, eyes locked on Alec’s, “what exactly do you mean by ‘destroy all demon-blooded creatures’? What does that mean?”
“It’s a secret. Izzy and I overheard our parents talking about it. They work for the Clave.” Alec frowned. “If the conditions are right, the Soul Sword can emit enough angelic energy to wipe the world of demon-blooded creatures.” Alec pushed his lips together, angering coloring his face. “But that’s not right. We shouldn’t have this power.”
Magnus considered it for a moment. Alec was telling the truth, but was he right? It did explain why the Shadowhunters went for the Soul Sword more than the other two Mortal Instruments. But that was the first time Magnus had heard of something like that… Could it be true?
Sighing, Magnus smiled again. True or not, others should know about it. The Downworlders ruled as equals. “Congratulations, Alec. You got yourself an audience with the Downworlder Council. You will explain all of that to them. They might even let you and your team go.”
“A Shadowhunter can’t get an audience with the Downworlder Council-” Alec started to protest.
But Magnus interrupted him. “Unless they have a sponsor. Well, you have me now. Don’t give me a reason to regret it and we shall be friends.”
Alec swallowed hard. “Okay.”
“Okay.” Magnus grinned, even though he had no idea if he should. Hopefully, that wouldn’t blow up in his face. “Good.”
It all depended on this Alec Lightwood. This strangely honest and determined man. Magnus had met other people like him before, but there was something different about Alec. It didn’t even matter that he was a Shadowhunter or that he would’ve put an arrow in Magnus’ head given half a chance. There was something special about him. Something that made Magnus trust him.
And trust makes one do strange things, doesn’t it?

Rating: T for Tyrannosaurus
Summary: Simon is a Shadowhunter and Baz is a vampire, the Head of the Watford vampire clan, strange things are taking place in Watford and something needs to be done about it.
Originally a short one shot in this AU written for the Carry On Countdown, but thanks to a surprising demand for more via AO3 and Tumblr is now a multi-chap, hopefully, you’ll join me for the ride.
On AO3 | Masterlist | Previous Chapter
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Chapter 2
Simon is barely conscious of his actions as he slams open the abandoned castle door of the Watford Institute. The old stone walls of the building echo with the force of it and yet Simon is too busy recalling a pair of pitch black eyes to notice.
He trudges through the dimly lit corridors, ascending the wide wooden staircase, with one destination in mind; the training room on the second floor.
But first, he had to report back to the Mage.
That wasn’t the Mage’s real name of course, but it was the one that everyone knew him by. There were rumours that his true title was ‘Davy’ but Simon couldn’t resign that name with the enigmatic and powerful figure that the Mage represented. To him, the Mage was all-knowing, omnipotent and above all, his guardian, the Institute Head who’d provided a home for an abandoned orphan boy.
Said omnipotent, all knowing Institute Head was blinking up at him owlishly from behind his mahogany desk, his attention diverted from the tremendous tome which he’d been perusing before his charge had stormed in like an agitated werewolf.
“Simon. Is anything wrong?”
“Nothing sir. I’m just reporting back after that vampire assignment you gave me.” Although his tone was as polite as usual, there’s an undercurrent to his words that spoke of his displeasure at having been assigned that particular task.
“Ah, yes. I trust everything went well?’
“Absolutely swell,” He hoped the sarcasm wasn’t too apparent.
“Right…” the Mage was eyeing him curiously, head tilted to the side, probably trying to ascertain his mood before seeming to let it go. “Well then, run along and do what you will, you’re off duty for the rest of the night.”
“Thank you sir.”
The training room was the perfect place to vent his feelings. The burn in his biceps as he swings from bar to bar is a welcoming distraction from the turmoil of his thoughts. Thoughts which seemed to consist mostly of blood red cocktails, a pair of fangs and a tailored suit with a floral pattern. It seemed ridiculous that one infuriating blood sucker could push him so off balance, but there he was, so completely off-kilter.
That arrogant vampire. Baz, his brain reminded him. Well Baz could go to hell. How dare he make such insinuations about Shadowhunters?
The Nephilim were what glued the supernatural community together. They were the overseers, the protectors. Without them the Magickal society would fall to pieces.
Why was this encounter bothering him so much?
He was used to Downworlder scorn, used to things like angry Warlocks knocking on the Institute’s door demanding that they be allowed to sell their services to mortals, services that would end in disaster if allowed. He’d never once before questioned the rules governing the other supernatural species, never once hesitated to tell an ambitious Downworlder ‘No’ and yet…
He jumps down from the bar he’d been hanging from, landing effortlessly on his feet. The tough leathery punching bag close by proves to be a good victim to take his frustrations out on.
Expensive cologne. A punch from the left.
Stupid not-even-truly-British accents. A punishing right hook.
A condescending smile framed by sculpted lips. A vicious roundhouse kick.
He hated this.
He needed someone to talk to. He needed Penelope.
He pulls away from the quivering bag and heads to the benches to swipe a wet towel over his sweaty face before hanging it around his neck as he squirts water onto his parched tongue. Merlin, for exactly how long had he been training?
The secret mundane phone that he kept back on the table in his room told him that the time was currently 4.00 am in the morning, meaning he’d been training for a cool two hours at a stretch after having gotten back from the revel at around 2.00. Wonderful.
Even better, he had training with Agatha in four short hours. Well, he’d better get what sleep he could.
He swipes open his lockscreen before typing a quick message to his Parabatai.
Vampires are terrible. Yes, I know, they rarely suck on human blood and when they do it’s not always harmful but Crowley, Penny you haven’t met the Head Vampire of the Watford Clan. He’s a bloody arsehole.
Having delivered that missive he heads off to get ready for bed.
Agatha is a lot less enthusiastic than usual at training this morning and that’s really saying something as she was never really all that enthusiastic to begin with. In fact, if Simon didn’t know any better he’d think that she resented being a Shadowhunter. Impossible. Being Nephilim was an honour.
“Simon! Stop attacking me with that thing.”
Simon had barely been moving his practice blade and yet Agatha seemed to think the false blade posed enough of a threat.
He just barely suppresses a long-suffering sigh. “Agatha, that’s the whole point of training. We pretend to attack each other so we’ll be prepared for actual attacks.”
“I really don’t see the point of training for an attack. Nothing fun ever happens around here anyways.”
Nothing fun. As if fights and wars and people being injured was fun. Biting back a retort he simply says, “Still, it’s always a good idea to be prepared.”
“Oh very well.” With a long suffering sigh of her own she finally raises her blade in an half-hearted attempt to parry him.
Practice goes worse than usual, but Simon’s day had been off even before then, he’d woken up to no messages from Penny who was usually up at the crack of dawn but he’d chalked it down to possible exhaustion from travelling. Not that she’d really gone all that far either. It felt weird to not have her frizzy haired self nearby. They’d been almost inseparable since even before they were twelve, when it had become time for him to decide who he’d have as a parabatai, Simon didn’t even have to think twice before deciding on Penny.
She was a force of nature and a constant presence; always there, always dependable. She also had a penchant for reading him way too easily.
He doesn’t truly start panicking however, he’s willing to give her silence the benefit of the doubt at least for the moment, after all, his parabatai rune wasn’t giving off any odd signals.
Then, the phone call happened.
Professor Bunce sounds hurried and displeased. “Simon, can you please remind Penelope to not forget to bring an extra pillow and bedsheet with her when she gets here and do tell her to answer my calls.”
“Professor Bunce,” the panic is rising in his voice, he can almost taste it, like bile traveling up his throat. “Penelope left for home yesterday. She should have been there by now.”
There’s a long pause. So long that Simon has to pinch himself to make sure that this is indeed reality.
“Simon, what are you saying? Surely you know where my daughter is.”
“No, Professor.” His voice is cracked. “I don’t.”
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Stay tuned for chapter 3, I’ll try to get it up soon but I make no promises🌺

Cristina as Unseelie Royalty HCs
aka an AU where the Unselie Court aren’t such jerks, recognize Cristina as the badass kingslayer she is and allow her into the Court, her and Mark as King Kieran’s official Consorts.
(Kierarktina, but with an emphasis on Cristina)
(Btw, shout-out to @wicked-books-101 for beta-ing these!)
((And also, of course, to @purple-haired-faerie for setting up this gift exchange!! Thank you so much, it was so much fun! And, if this becomes an every-year thing – count me in!!))
Merry Christmas, Val (@ladyofstoriesandmusic), from your TSC Secret Santa!!! I hope you like these and have a wonderful Christmas and a great new year!!
At first it was a bit awkward. Not only was it the first time a human was a Consort for the Unseelie King, but it was the first time a King had multiple official Consorts (of course, there had been affairs before, that was really the norm, but never had they actually lived in the palace, and performed royal duties).
People whispered, both good and bad things.
Though Kieran was basically an anxiety ball over being King, and Mark wasn’t used to having this many people watch his every move, Cristina was the most nervous one.
Though she had studied and been fascinated by faeries her whole life, and knew mostly everything about them (well, as much as a Shadowhunter could), she still felt like an outsider. The snide looks weren’t helping.
But, the more time she spent with Mark and Kieran, the more they performed their jobs and realized they were actually good at them, the more Cristina found out about Faerie, the more she loved it and felt comfortable there.
Eventually, people also realized they were great at their jobs. Plus, they had never seen a King as happy as Kieran was with his Consorts. Mostly, they got over themselves, pretty much forgetting Cristina wasn’t a faerie. She was just part of the Court, almost as if she always had been.
A though nut to crack had been General Winter, but as soon as he so much as looked at Cristina sideways, she shot him a challenging glare right back, as if daring him to remember what happened to King Oban. He did. He stopped doubting her.
Cristina and Mark are ambassadors. Between the Unseelie Court, the Seelie Court, the Clave In Exile, other Downworlder clans, and the Wild Hunt as well.
Once Kieran stepped up to the throne, he had wanted to improve Unseelie’s relations with the outside world. If they were already better inside the palace, they should also be outside, right?
(Basically, Mark and Cristina have the same jobs they do in canon, only instead of the Shadowhunter/Downworlder Alliance, it’s for the Unseelie King)
They negotiate according to their strengths: Cristina with the Seelie Court, after studying them for so long, Mark with the Wild Hunt, and both of them with the Clave In Exile and the Shadowhunter/Downworlder Alliance*.
Outside of that, Cristina spends her time exploring Faerie, sometimes with one of her loves (though they’re all so busy these days), sometimes alone, but always safe with diplomatic immunity (no more weird juice and unsuspecting bonds for this gal).
Mark likes to take out his old steed whenever he can, and ride through the sky. All the freedom he wants, only he only wants enough to still miss home by dinnertime.
Kieran (though he’s definitely the busiest of them all) is enjoying getting to know his people. Once he is able to escape the palace, he wanders around Unseelie, meeting his citizens, finding out how to be a better King, how to constantly improve himself.
They still have the cottage, but it’s more of a vacation house now. They go there to get away from everything and relax, when they need it, but they do have their own room at the palace for themselves on the day-to-day basis.
They often visit the Human World (mostly Mark and Cristina, but Kieran goes on special occasions – like he did in Malec’s wedding): Mark loves to be there for Blackthorn family dinners, Cristina has arranged some sleepovers with Emma (who still jokingly refers to their relationship as a “hot faerie threesome”, despite Tina’s frequent eye rolls and begging her to stop) as well as visiting her family in Mexico.
So, they’re happy: work they love, families to go home to, freedom to explore all their interests, and, most importantly, to be who they are and with whom they love.
*By the way, because I couldn’t stop myself – In this universe, since Alec is no longer running it, and Mark can’t either, Simon is the one in charge of the Shadowhunter/Downworlder Alliance. Okay, yeah, fine, I do love Simon and just can’t help including him in anything I write, but I maintain that this makes sense, after all he went through in TftSA and all that about wanting to change the Clave for the better, especially for Downworlders!

Iron Fist Rewatch 1x02: Shadow Hawk Takes Flight
These doctors seem very nonchalant about how close this dude just got to murdering Danny with a fork. No reassurance or apology - just pour drugs down his throat so they can hose him down. What a picture of The System.
Negative stereotype that has roots in truth - there ARE places like this and worse, but it's true that we very rarely see the good kind of facility represented in TV too. Sucks for them to always be portrayed as the bad guy, and probably harmful too if people really could benefit from them but are wary.
"Let's say [he IS Danny]. That would mean he somehow, miraculously, [1] survived a plane crash, [2] in the Himalayas, and that [3] for some unknown reason he waited fifteen years to come back, with [4] no shoes and a tendency toward violence." - Ward, reciting all the reasons he's been repeating to himself ever since the parking lot not to start thinking this might be Danny, frog and freezer stories or no.
"We're doing the right thing. We could have just had him arrested." Why DIDN'T you have him arrested, Ward? Oh right, HAROLD. ugh.
AU where Danny gets arrested instead. Unfortunately I THINK none of the other Defenders timelines work out so this would be a good time for them to meet him early, though... 🤔
Again with this bird. I completely forgot about this symbol theme.
Danny: "I was meditating." Doctor: "Oh!" Danny: "Yeah, I was trying to focus my chi so I could get out of here." Doctor: "Oh..."
Doctor's like: Oh, wow, this is an interesting level of specificity for a made up story...
I forgot how much I like this doctor. He's legit trying to help. I forget what happened to him...
Colleen is putting so much effort into insulting her students LOL. Also: Darryl's shoes are too big. Bc Colleen runs a struggling dojo in an underprivileged part of city as a safe haven for these kids and to help "teach them how to perform in the real world"
Parts of this conversation that will weigh on Colleen: "You saw me being attacked; you KNOW there's something weird going on." "One of the richest families in New York have a problem with you." "No, I don't have anyone else I can ask for help: you're the only one."
Ward: Ok, good, I'm hearing reasons why this guy can't be telling the truth and therefore cannot be Danny. That's good. I still feel kind of off though... but that's probably just the thing where Harold put cameras in the hospital. Yeah.
Poor Kyle.
Ward: "We can lobotomize him!" Me: "asdfghjkl WARD."
This shot of Harold's "smile" when he tells Ward "You ARE one of my guys! One of my most trusted guys!" is SO CREEPY
You can see Colleen FREEZE when Ward introduces himself. Harold and Ward shooting themselves in the foot with this: they're lending credence to Danny's story from the phone convo.
Ward, one of the richest people in the city: "Lie to the authorities about that homeless dude being violent for my own personal benefit. Here's a blatant bribe."
Harold yelling at the spy footage like he's throwing popcorn at a movie.
POOR KYLE.
This is deeply uncomfortable for me on a personal level.
Joy: Hmmmmm. What possible reason... could "Danny's" doctor have... for asking that very specific question.... unless.........?
Ok but "tiny Danny wanted to be an acrobat and was always jumping around on things" makes it SO MUCH EASIER for canon-divergent AUs where Danny isn't in the plane crash to still include ninja warrior Danny I-
Harold, a known dead man, looming ominously in the shadows of Danny's mental hospital room: "Here's a message about how you have to come find me and help me. It's not very subtle so you'll probably get it." Danny: "Oh shit, maybe I am crazy...?"
Danny: "I was a warrior. Only in the middle of a fight did I fully come alive. The harder someone hit me, the more everything came into focus." Harold: "Hm. Note taken." Me: *crying emoji*
Show: "oooh, ominous, Harold's under the Hand's thumb. Maybe there's more to him, maybe he's sympathetic...?" Fans: "lol, nice try. We all clocked that creep-o the moment we saw him."
I've talked about Colleen's first impressions of the Meachums in general and Ward in specific before but. Dude. Dude.
Danny, thinking that his very last tentative hope (Colleen) has fallen through, receives a communication from Joy. ;____;
Had. Had Joy already opened the bag of m&ms. It was sealed when she pulled it out of her desk drawer so wh- OH. The hospital opened Danny's mail, including the candy bag, to inspect it before giving it to him. Hahaha *sob*
If Colleen hadn't come to see Danny here, their paths might have diverged. As far as he's concerned, Colleen has made it clear that she's not going to help him and that they're just two strangers in a big city. Turning the corner and seeing her come to visit him boosts that flame of hope that Joy's package rekindled even further. He thought he had no one, and now the amount of people he has is growing.
Ok but, in an AU where Colleen doesn't go see Danny / Danny doesn't know Colleen came to see him, that isn't necessarily the end of their relationship. On Colleen's side, she's still suspicious of this entire Meachum mess - it RADIATES corruption and Colleen is very much entrenched in the downworld of NYC, where the rich powerful elite hurt the most. Plus, Danny doesn't give up on people easily and honestly, he kind of sucks at taking a hint - if he went off to some Rand business with the in with Joy, he would still end up in all the Harold mess, and probably at some point be on the run (maybe with another person - oooh, would love to see that AU - Joy or Ward or both in tow with Danny on the streets, fleeing trouble, Danny saying "I know a place") and showing up at Colleen's door, like "I know you don't want any part of this, and I don't mean to bring trouble to your door, but there's nowhere else to go," and Colleen being like "get in, quick," with her windows already half shuttered and supplies on the table because she was already investigating herself - (it could turn into a whole thing, with Colleen having connections that she thinks she can trust to help them against the big bad Harold/Meachum conspiracy, but then it's the Hand, and-!)
Danny: "The Meachum family might think I'm a threat to them." Colleen: "And why would they think that?" Danny: "Because I'm Danny Rand and I own more than half the company." Me: "And also because you stalked Joy, broke into her house and their offices, terrified and almost killed Ward???"
But anyway this is only gonna fuel Colleen's narrative that this is all greedy corporate machinations and bloody rich people politics. (Literally bloody. Literally murder people in a "problem solving" way kind of bloody.)
GODDDD Colleen is so hot in this scene when she walks into Joy's office with her pushed up sleeves on her chinese bomber jacket and her shirt tucked into her rolled up pants and - her hands in her pockets and that black bracelet and the belt - !
This argument between Joy and Ward is so emotionally charged - Ward's now in a desperate position because Joy has no way of knowing that she has just become an obstacle to something that he can't allow to happen - because Harold can not allow it to happen, and he's pulling Ward's strings, and then - ! "What are you so afraid of, Ward?" It's Harold, he's afraid of Harold. "You should be more like Dad." Ugh. ugh! Shot through the heart! "Grow some balls." I'm crying. They've both learned such terrible things from their father.
GDI DANNY the doctor BELIEVED you and then you had to go start talking about alternate planes of existence and the Iron Fist UGH he thinks you're just trying to cope with the trauma I - UGH.
This doctor is honestly trying to help but he's confirming all of Danny's fears from what Simon told him about how this place operates.
Ward regularly has to come up with ways to convince an entire board to do weird things that Harold asks - like purchase some random warehouses in Brooklyn - without even knowing why
Ward: "'Danny' is a threat to us, to our family, to our business, and the smartest solution - the one YOU taught me - is to get rid of the problem as expediently as possible!" Harold: "No, protect him." Ward: "WHY?! I am asking you why. Explain it to me! Because from where I'm standing, protecting him is dangerous, and getting rid of him is safe!" Harold: "Because I said so, that's why. Now heel." Honestly, of COURSE Ward takes this into his own hands.
Ah, yes, our first glimpse at Ward's drug addiction.
What is their plan????? Just beat him to death!? Can't make it quick - why?? Are they trying to make it look like a simple altercation between inmates???
"Ward Meachum sends his regards." God, that's so heartbreaking. The idea that not only does Ward believe Danny is an imposter and a threat, enough to try to kill him and then to send him to a mental institution - but that once he's there, out of harm's way, if he IS a mentally unstable imposter - OR once proof is starting to trickle to the Meachums (in colorful chocolate form) that he actually IS their old friend Danny - that Big Brother Ward would go out of his way to strike a deal with some "low life mental hospital thugs" to beat Danny to death?? This moment, to Danny, must feel like a bigger betrayal to Danny by Ward than anything else so far.
Danny, on all fours, looks up at the full moon outside the window, at the hawk silhouette streaking across it, and smiles. Hawk as Danny's spirit guide AU cont., but ALSO: WEREWOLF AU WEREWOLF AU WEREWOLF AU
Danny. Danny. Please run. Busting a huge hole in the wall made a very loud noise, please stop just standing there and giving people time to catch up.

Back in 2017, I started an AU with @stardustrobin. The plot went in a “What if the Circle succeeded” sort of direction, that now had Downworlders on the run & the Clave had been completely taken over by Valentine & his circle.
Alec was brought up in this sort of life & new nothing different. He was also raised around Sebastian (Jonathan Morgenstern) & I fancied the idea of them both being parabatai. Alec meets Magnus on a hunt one day, & that started a drastic shift in his life.
We never finished the AU, but we are getting back around to it now! I liked my writing from back then, & decided to post this. Probably won’t ever expand on it, but I do miss this style & hope to get it back.
Their lips crushed together in a desperate sort of passion with teeth and biting and all the roughness that accompanied the lusting excitement his blonde haired partner was feeling. Alec’s back hit the wall harshly when shoved, then he’s crowded again and his blue eyes close as more screams filled the air around them. His hand raised to push away, but his partner took him by the wrist and pinned it against the wall until he was sated and broke away on his own. Dazed, perhaps a little high from the coppery taste of blood in his mouth (which Alec was 100% sure that it was his own blood), he shook his head in an attempt to ground himself. Blue eyes shift blearily to their guest who was strewn about on the floor before them, burning away thanks to the silver powder that his parabatai had doused the wolf in. Jonathan sneered, black eyes hardly reflecting any emotion upon their observance.
Alec was all but used to those judging eyes and their cold reflections of cruelty. He had always been that way, the eldest Lightwood child lamented, but that was just how it was. He hardly had any authority to demand an emotional response from his parabatai, especially in the case of a filthy downworlder. Still, in moments like these, Alec found himself turning his eyes away as he leaned back against the wall again. His gaze tilted upward, shoulders sagging as the werewolf screamed again after another introduction to silver powder is made.
Sometimes he really wondered: is this even right?
That’s just the way things are had never been a comforting explanation, but it was one that was swallowed down in all it’s bitter and crass acceptance. There were rumors of what life was before reformation, but Alec was only a toddler back then. From the way the new council spoke, the Clave that was had been easily corrupted and trodden-over by the influence and sympathy of downworlders. As the story went, their leader- Valentine Morgenstern- had a better vision for the nephilim, one that would uplift them from their darkened times of bowing before the wills of those inferior creatures that ran amok without consequence.
Alec’s parents were close to Valentine, and- in turn- he was close to Valentine’s son, Jonathan. They had grown up together, become close– but Jonathan always had a way with Alec, some dominance over him that pulled him along like a well trained pup. Being in such close proximity to Valentine and his family did not come without concomitance- like the superiority to be felt over all things deemed less than in their training.
Once upon a time, it was said that Valentine had a beautiful wife too– but she was whisked away by his parabatai-now-turned-werewolf before the man in charge started his glorious revolution. Alec had only ever heard comments in passing about Jocelyn Fairchild, like how she still interacts and sympathizes with downworlders and acts in hopes of tearing down the power and glory that is the current Clave.
Alec had never thought much of it until his dear little sister, Isabelle, turned tail and ran for whatever resistance that Lucian and Jocelyn had formed. Still, he loved his sister more than anything else in this world (even more than Jonathan, he sometimes thought) and burned down anything and everything that the Clave could have possibly used to track her. When they came through for investigation, Alec insisted that Izzy herself had done the damages; she was a smart girl after all, she would make herself disappear entirely with how serious she was to running away.
She had insisted on Alec coming along with her, tried her best to persuade her older brother, but he always came back around to Jonathan no matter how hard he tried to leave. Izzy knew why, and disapproved with good reason; the Morgenstern boy was not the best influence or company to keep around. But for every bruise and bite and injury that Alec received, he was still too far gone (or so he believed) to give up his life here.
This was who he was, he had insisted despite the awful way his stomach knotted and twisted.
“Are we done here?” He asked in flat-planed boredom as he turned his head away from the gruesome scene.
It was about a minute longer before his parabatai responded. “Yeah,” he huffed, and he too shared the sudden disinterest in their victim, ending the werewolf’s misery at long last. “Too bad,” Jonathan genuinely sounded disappointed as he swung the blade in his hand idly. Black eyes shifted to his uncomfortable partner, and his lips twisted back in amusement. His mud-stupid parabatai was never so good in these situations.
A gentle hand rested on Alec’s hip, enticing him to look back but ultimately failing. When he did not receive the reaction he wanted, Jonathan grabbed for Alec’s wrist and dug his fingers in harshly until the Lightwood boy glared back with a questioning expression. “I was hoping he had some insight on where your sister had gone,” Jonathan finished as he released Alec’s wrist.
“You know Izzy doesn’t want to be found. She’s had the same training we’ve had-”
“-you’ve had, Alec. Not me.”
“…I’ve had. She’s not coming back anytime soon.”
“I suppose..” The blade was sheathed with a flippant sigh before the blonde boy turned on his heels and shrugged. “We tried..!” He adds in a faux sort of exasperation, unable to really keep the satisfaction of the kill from his voice. “Come on. We still have that gathering nearby to investigate.”
That was right… They weren’t even supposed to be bothering with this werewolf, it was just an unfortunate victim of circumstances, having been in the wrong place at the wrong time. Alec rolled his eyes and pushed himself away from the wall, stalking after Jonathan in a resigned state as his gaze dropped to the ground like usual.
Rumor had it that there was some collection of downworlders meeting up nearby, for whatever reason the Clave didn’t care to investigate. Their orders were simple: Find them, kill them, come home. That was all.
“How many are inside?” Jonathan Morgenstern’s voice brought the Wayland boy out of his fixated gaze as they approached. The darker blonde haired boy perked up, blue eyes blinking away the daze as they settled on the Morgenstern and Lightwood boys. He had expected them here sooner, say before the wards were thrown up. There was no feasible way of sneaking in without alerting the disgusting creatures inside now. They certainly had their tricks, after all.
“Not like it really matters,” the Wayland boy scoffed as he gestured to the building in question. “Wards are up cause you took too long.”
Their fair-haired leader leaned in as he felt that attitude was a challenge to his authority. He cupped the other Jonathan’s chin with a harsh grip, tilting his head up so blue eyes stared into black. “Excuse me…” he starts in an even tone that hardly reflected the raging storm of emotion beneath. “What?”
Alec took a step forward in an attempt to dilute the tension, if only a little. “It’s not like we could’ve gotten in without them knowing anyway. They would’ve smelled us first,” he pointed out, trying to act as the voice of reason. Jonathan Wayland had also been a childhood friend, but not as close as Alec’s parabatai. Something happened between Alec’s dad and Michael Wayland, something that really put a strain on their relationship. Despite their fathers being parabatai, Alec was hardly given the chance to really bond with the Wayland boy all that much.
Sometimes he wondered what had made their relationship so… estranged.
Nonetheless, he finds himself just a little protective over Jonathan Wayland, if only because someone has to be. Alec wouldn’t argue that his parabatai could be a little… extreme when it wasn’t necessary. In fact, he would vouch that his parabatai took great delight in his extremities.
He had a taste for cruelty that Alec simply didn’t share, but found himself falling into whenever possible.
Morgenstern released Wayland with a scoff, standing to his full height and rolling his shoulders back before that same hand rested on Alec’s arm with false reassurances and a promise of gentleness that would never see fruition. “You’re right, parabatai. I just didn’t like his attitude.” He pats Alec’s shoulder lightly, then steps away to survey the area. “Well.. We know what to do: Break in and kill as many as we can. It’s too late to surprise them now.”
“We wouldn’t have surprised them before-” Wayland tried to remind him, only to be silenced by Morgenstern’s hand shooting up in silent command. The Wayland boy took a step back with a disgruntled noise, falling into place beside Alec for comfort. “Running in without knowing who is in there would be suicide. I saw Magnus Bane with them.”
Fair-haired Jonathan waved his hand to brush off this little statement. “I don’t care about that mulato. Morale will lessen when they see his head on my wall.” He was determined, and Alec knew there would be no talking him out of this now that his mind was set. “Let’s go.”

OUAT Shadowhunters AU
Okay so this is a bit of a beast and I’m so sorry for how long it is. But this is the basic outlines of each character I thought of, although I may not include all of them in the story. I’m also still tweaking some ideas, but here’s how I kinda sorted everyone out. I want to work on a snippet, but it is very late so this is what I have! I hope you guys enjoy my late night rambling. @teamhook @kmomof4 @ultraluckycatnd @stahlop @therealstartraveller776
Shadowhunters
Killian Jones: Fae/Shadowhunter (26)
Killian is the second son of Alycia of the Fae Court and Brennan Jones, making him a Fae/Shadowhunter hybrid. He is extremely skilled with seraph blades and throwing daggers. His two most prominent runes are Calm Anger and Courage in Combat. Killian’s fae heritage means that he is seen as less than other Shadowhunters and has had to work twice as hard as other Shadowhunters to prove his worth. However, he is disturbed by the discrimination that downworlders face and often finds himself among downworld company. His best friend was David Nolan, but when they were nineteen, David was bitten by a werewolf and exiled from Misthaven. Killian was dating the werewolf Milah, but she was killed in a raid a few years previously and Killian has been investigating her death ever since.
Liam Jones: Fae/Shadowhunter (30)
Liam is the oldest of the Jones brothers and also a hybrid like his brother. Liam’s choice of weapon is a seraph blade, but he is also quite skilled with the stave, making him deadly at both range and up-close. His most prominent rune is the Angelic Power rune because, unlike his brother, Liam cleaves closer to his angelic heritage than his fae heritage. He works hard to make himself the perfect Shadowhunter so that the Clave doesn’t doubt his loyalty. He worries incessantly after his younger brothers and is slow to believe Killian’s theory that there is something rotten in the Clave. He is not overly fond of Emma at first, but is very interested in her young Warlock friend, Elsa.
William “Lee” Jones (Liam 2.0) (20)
Lee is the youngest of the Jones brothers and the result of his father’s second marriage Anne Whitlock. He is a full Shadowhunter, but still very much aware of the shadow that hangs over his older brothers. Lee is very talented with the crossbow and prefers to be able to analyze a fight before getting involved. However, he is as hot-headed as his brothers and his most prominent rune is Accuracy. He works alongside his brothers to stop whatever Gold is planning.
Will Scarlet (25)
Will is a good friend of the Jones brothers and parabatai to Robin Locksley. He prefers seraph daggers and his most prominent rune is Stealth. Will enjoys hanging around downworld bars and his quickly falling head over heels for the head of the vampire coven, Belle French.
Robin Locksley (30)
Robin and Liam are best friends, but Robin chose to form a parabatai bond with the young Will Scarlet because for all Will’s recklessness, he’s a good, passionate fighter and he needs someone with Robin’s head to watch out for him. Robin prefers the bow and his most prominent rune is Flexibility. Robin is in love with fellow Shadowhunter Regina, but Cora doesn’t think Robin has the right background to marry her daughter.
Regina Mills (28)
Regina is a particularly talented Shadowhunter that prefers the electrum whip and her most prominent rune is her Angelic Power rune. She believes that she is superior, mostly because of the way Cora raised her. Born to one of the “original” families, Regina doesn’t think much of the discrimination that downworlders face, but agrees to investigate what is happening in the hopes that her mother will allow her to marry Robin.
Robert Gold (52)
Gold is the Inquisitor and is known for doling out harsh punishments to downworlders and Shadowhunter sympathizers. He has been attempting to ruin Killian for years and sees downworlders as scum to be eliminated. Gold has teamed up with Cora Mills and Peter Pan to destroy the downworld and raise a new, pure order from the ashes. Gold orchestrates many of the murders and tries to pass laws that would place stricter regulations on downworlders. They would also forbid the Jones brothers from being Shadowhunters. His most prominent rune is the Power rune.
Cora Mills (50)
Cora is a skilled Shadowhunter that specializes in the electrum whip like her daughter. However, she also has impressive rune work with her most prominent rune being her Voyance rune. Cora believes downworlders to be a scourge and is working to eradicate them along with Gold and Pan. Cora had a daughter at 18 when she slept with a demon for fun. She cast Zelena aside and instead married into the high-class Mills family through Henry Mills. She has raised Regina to follow in her footsteps and does not approve of the lowly Robin.
Warlocks
Emma Swan (200+)
Emma is the High Warlock of Misthaven and takes great pride in protecting her downworld community from threats, both from demons and from the Clave. She is extremely skilled in defensive magic and her warlock mark comes in the form of white, shining stripes and glowing eyes. Emma is the current ward for a young warlock Henry and they have a mother-son relationship, especially since they share the same demonic parent. Emma first comes across Killian in the club she owns that he frequent, but their first official meeting comes when a young warlock is murdered and Killian comes to ask her about him. From then on, the two of them work closely together to solve the murders and they begin to develop feelings for each other.
Henry Swan (12)
A young Warlock who was taken in by Emma when his birth mother abandoned him, Henry and Emma share the same demonic parent. Henry has similar stripes to Emma, although his are red, and he has small fangs. Henry is an excitable kid that doesn’t quite understand the discrimination the downworld faces. Emma is extremely protective of him.
Zelena West (32)
A young Warlock, Zelena is the illegitimate child of Cora Mills, who had an affair with a demon, but cast the child off. Zelena’s angelic heritage makes her particularly powerful, but her bitterness at Shadowhunters makes her a nasty opponent. She works with Pan and Arthur in the hopes that they will double-cross Gold and take over. Her warlock mark is her green skin and she specializes in potions.
Elsa and Anna Fross (182, 178)
Elsa and Anna Fross are sisters born to the same mother. Their mother was part of a brooding den that was broken up by Shadowhunters. They saw the horrible things their mother experienced and hold kinder feelings than most Warlocks towards Shadowhunters. Elsa has a particular talent for water and ice magic and her warlock mark is her white hair and two horns. Elsa has begun to fall in love with Liam Jones and worries about what that might mean. Anna has less magical talent than her sister, but can also manipulate water, although she uses it for healing mostly. Anna’s warlock mark is the same horns as her sister, but she also has a white tail instead of white hair.
Werewolves
Snow White (30)
Snow is the Alpha of the Misthaven pack, along with her mate, David. Snow is a born werewolf and her wolf form has white fur, which is what earned her her name. She is well-respected among the downworld community and rules with a fair and firm hand. Her acceptance of David was much contested at the time, but he quickly proved to be an asset. She and David have a son named Leo, who is still a little puppy. She and Emma are good friends.
David Nolan (26)
David was once a shadowhunter who was bitten by a rogue werewolf during a mission gone wrong. He was close with the Jones family and didn’t much mind their half-fae heritage, especially since he was mocked for being from a lower-class Shadowhunter family. David met Snow’s pack after he turned and fell in love with the Alpha. David still keeps in contact with Killian, but it is sometimes difficult as Killian is closely monitored. David’s wolf form is russet and sandy-brown. His most prominent rune was Fortitude.
Ruby and Granny Lucas (29, 80)
Ruby and Granny Lucas are both born werewolves that run in Snow’s pack. Ruby is Snow’s Beta and Granny often advises Snow on difficult political matters. They two women are incredibly loyal, but have a severe distrust of Shadowhunters, especially since Ruby’s mother was killed by Shadowhunters when they declared her rogue. Ruby is a dark brown and black wolf while Granny is silver. They are both trained fighters, although Granny usually runs the restaurant, Lupus Diner, which is a front for the werewolves.
Graham Humbert (31)
Graham was a human cop who was bitten by a werewolf and joined Snow’s pack. He is mated to Ruby Lucas and still works as a police officer. He is in charge of investigating the human connections to the Shadow World murders. He doesn’t really trust Shadowhunters, but doesn’t have quite the same hate for them as others. He is a brown and gray wolf.
Milah Auro (33)
Milah was a werewolf in the Misthaven pack and dating Killian, although their relationship was kept secret for obvious reasons. However, she was murdered by Pan and it was made to look like a Shadowhunter attack on a rogue werewolf. Milah’s death prompts Killian to pull away from the Clave and begin investigating Gold. Milah was a pretty black wolf.
Vampires
Belle French (124)
Belle French is the leader of the Misthaven coven of vampires and an old friend of Emma’s. The two aren’t incredibly close, but they respect each other and will come to each other’s aid. Belle keeps her coven on a tight leash and does not wish to give Shadowhunters an inch when it comes to coven business. She has worked hard to change the vampiric image and the recent killings disturb her. Belle’s true love is her library, but the snarky Will Scarlet is beginning to turn her head, something that hasn’t happened in decades. She and Snow have a fairly amicable agreement between the vampires and werewolves.
Arthur Pendragon (600+)
Arthur is a very old vampire that remembers the times when downworlders weren’t beholden to the Accords and wishes to return to that time. He is working with Pan and Zelena to double-cross Gold and bring down the Clave, restoring downworlders to their place as predators.
Victor Whale (107)
Whale is a vampire that was turned during World War II when he was serving as a doctor in Europe. Whale is in charge of getting blood shipments for Belle’s coven and mostly just wants to keep practicing medicine. He has found a few effective treatments for wounds dealt by Shadowhunter weapons or demon ichor.
Archie Hopper (300+)
An old vampire that often gives counsel to younger vampires and coven leaders. He is an oddly peaceful vampire who works as a therapist on the side. He is good friends with Emma and Belle.
Fair Folk
Tinkerbelle (Unknown)
A member of the Faerie Queen’s court, Tinkerbelle is a scout that often works with the Shadowhunters to bring murderers to justice. She is also the one who brings Pan’s plans to the attention of the Shadowhunters, but she doesn’t really trust them. She works mostly with Killian because Alycia was her friend and she trusts her sons. Tink is particularly deadly with a dagger.
Alycia (Unknown)
Alycia is a handmaiden to the Queen and a particularly trusted scout. She fell in love with Brennan and had two sons with him, but was forced to return to Court. She has little contact with her sons, but tries to let them know how much she loves them and how proud of them she is. Alycia has a son, Jefferson, from a previous relationship with a human.
Ashla, Aurora, and Philip (Unknown)
Fae knights that want to unite the Shadow World so they work with Jefferson and the Jones brothers.
Jefferson (73)
Jefferson is a relatively young Fae who chose to leave the human world behind and accept the immortality offered by the Fae Court. He serves as diplomat and knight to the Queen and wishes to get to know his younger brothers better.
Peter Pan (Unknown)
Pan wants to rid the world of Shadowhunter influence and teams up with Gold to bring the Shadow World to the brink of war. He murders Milah and organizes the murder of both Shadowhunter and downworlder alike so that he can double-cross Gold and overthrow the Clave.
So Gold wants to destroy all downworlders; he enlists the help of Peter Pan to sow discord in the downworld and Cora to spread hate rhetoric. He particularly targets the Jones brothers, and Killian because he has friends in the downworld, his supposed to be parabatai was turned, and he has a wolf lover. Pan kills Milah, but makes it look like a Shadowhunter attack. While investigating her death, Killian comes across several cases of what looks like shadowhunter-on-downworlder crime and downworlder-on-shadowhunter crime. Tensions are rising and the brothers are in the middle. They team up with the downworld and work to bring Gold’s horrible plans to light.

Upholding law and order in gold-mining town Nephilim Falls, population 1,700 souls, is the responsibility of Sheriff Alec Lightwood. As it is, Alec already has his hands full with the saloons and whorehouses making tempers rise and the men rowdy when the day's mining goes badly, and the constant threat of bandits in the hills. And the Oscar goes to... by Lecrit (Explicit | 1/1 | 21,494)
Working for Magnus isn’t easy. Magnus is out of control and Alec has to yell more often than not to get him to listen to him. He hates everything formal because it means he has to watch his mouth. Most importantly, Magnus is an incorrigible flirt.
Which would be alright if Alec wasn’t utterly, irremediably, unfathomably in love with him.
Based on this prompt: "AU where Magnus is an Oscar winning actor and Alec, his PA, is in love with him."
Set Me In Motion by lemonoclefox (Mature | 20/20 | 132,055)
“Is that your way of asking me to cook for you sometime?” Alec says. “'Cause I will.” The moment the words escape his mouth, Alec finds himself slightly panicking. Because he does not talk like that, ever―in a way that might even be considered flirting―and he still doesn’t understand what it is about Magnus that brings stuff like that out of him. More importantly, he has a boyfriend. Magnus, however, just looks mildly surprised as their eyes meet. “My, my. Master chef, good family name, and charming?” Magnus tilts his head ever so slightly. “Careful, Mr. Lightwood,” he says in a low, teasing voice, mouth curving up in a smile. “You’re gonna make me swoon.” ---
One night, Magnus spots a handsome stranger in the elevator of his apartment building – which wouldn’t be a big deal if said stranger didn’t turn out to be dating Magnus’s neighbor. The stranger soon becomes Alec, and their paths end up crossing more than once. Chapter: 1 of 11 Word Count: 36,900 Rating: Mature Premise: Arranged Marriage AU, Canon Divergent starting at Ep 1x12
Description:
Magnus warned Alec he wouldn’t ask again.
And he didn’t.
Alec called off his wedding, but the next day walked in on Magnus with Camille and hasn’t spoken to Magnus since.
Now, months later, relations between the Shadowhunters and the Downworld are growing increasingly turbulent as the Downworld blames Jace for Valentine’s massacre of dozens of Downworlders.
It’s up to Alec, as Head of the New York Institute, to forge a peace that could save thousands of Downworlder and Shadowhunter lives—even if it means re-evaluating everything he once thought mattered.
Notes:
This story takes place roughly 2-3 months after the events of episode 2x10. It was written before 2B aired, but the events of 2x13 have been retroactively worked into the canon.
It is fully canon-compliant up until Alec’s wedding in episode 1x12, and then very closely canon-compliant up through episode 2x10.
The major difference is that there is no convenient Ghost!Ragnor talking Magnus into trying again, thus Magnus never shows up at Alec’s wedding in 1x12. As a result, the events of season two happen without the relationship between Alec and Magnus influencing the direction of things, creating deviations both major and minor. This is largely seen in discussion of events taking place between 2x08 and 2x10.
For example: Magnus’s spellbook is still stolen in 2x08, but the theft in no way involves Alec, or Max’s rune ceremony. Thus, the Lightwood family never comes under the influence of Iris Rouse’s spell that night, and a great deal of the conflict they end up dealing with in that episode (such as Maryse and Alec quasi-reconciling and Alec finding out about his father’s infidelity) is never resolved.
Magnus never tells Alec about his suspicions regarding Izzy and yin fen in 2x09, so Alec never bursts into the Hotel Dumort to confront Izzy and Raphael. As a result, their “date” continues uninterrupted. This leads to consequences that result in them being absent from everything that happens in the Institute in 2x10. (Raphael also doesn’t have that confrontation acting as a catalyst for revealing whatever feelings he has for Izzy.)
“What is he doing here?” Meliorn demanded as Jace followed Alec through the door of Magnus’s loft.
“The terms for the summit were that each representative was permitted to bring a lieutenant,” Alec said, trying not to sound too stiff or ready for an argument, though Meliorn’s intention to needle him from the outset was transparent. “That was your stipulation, Meliorn.”
"It was, but to bring the Shadowhunter who betrayed us to treaty talks you called yourself, one might assume you intend to insult all of us from the beginning." Meliorn planted his hands on the ornately carved table and rose. Beside him, a Seelie woman stood as well. "If that's how it will be, I see no point to attending this conference at all."
“Jace didn’t betray us,” Luke said, holding up a hand. Beside him, Maia looked like she wanted to argue that claim, but she maintained a grudging silence.
“How do you know?” Meliorn demanded. “You were outside with me, fending off Circle members while our people were dying in the Institute. We have only Jace Wayland’s word that he did not intentionally activate the Soul Sword at Valentine’s behest.”
“And mine.” Magnus rose from his seat at the end of the table, drawing Alec’s gaze to the exact person he’d been trying to avoid noticing. A muddled mess of confusion and betrayal and gratitude hit him square in the chest, the way it always did when he and Magnus failed to avoid each other’s presence. He had to push that aside to make his eyes move on, which took far more willpower than Alec would have liked.
“I was there when Jace received the misinformation intended to make him think he was destroying the sword instead of activating it,” Magnus continued. “He was prepared to die that night to save all of us. He’s not to blame that Valentine misled him. If we’re going to make any progress in this meeting, let’s start out by giving one another the benefit of the doubt, shall we?”
Beside Magnus, Dorothea Rollins remained seated with her hands folded before her, her eyes downcast. "What happened that night is my fault if it's anyone's," she murmured. "I should have known something was off when Valentine dropped the way to thwart his plans in my lap and then left me there. But I was ill and unable to think clearly, so I didn't see it." Her hands rubbed the polished surface of the table restlessly for a moment, before she straightened her shoulders and looked them all in the eye, one by one. "Which is why I want to start this summit by offering to surrender myself to the Seelies—or the werewolves or vampires, if necessary—to face whatever charges they deem necessary to hold someone accountable for the massacre."
“Dot, that’s not—” Magnus started sharply, then softened his tone, a deep frown drawing his brows together. “This isn’t what we discussed.”
“No, it isn’t.” Dot met his eyes, and they seemed to be having a silent conversation as they stared at each other. “Our people are dying, Magnus. At this rate, Valentine’s followers won’t need to try to kill us. We’re doing it ourselves, with every skirmish between Shadowhunters and Downworlders.”
She rose from her chair, shaking visibly. Magnus reached down to try to help her, but she waved him off. "The Clave gets more repressive every time the Seelies ambush a Shadowhunter—" she stared Meliorn down, then moved on to Maia "—or the werewolves start a bar fight at the Hunter's Moon. And that makes the Downworld even more resentful. Unless we all want to end up with tracking chips in our necks—or worse—something has to break the cycle.”
Her chin lifted another notch. “I’m ill, thanks to Valentine’s experiments, and I’m not getting better. If someone has to fall on their sword to move the peace process along, it might as well be me.”
“Uh, hello?” Beside Raphael, Simon waved his hand. “In case anyone forgot, I was right there. You know, in the room. I saw what happened. Jace was trying to destroy the sword. If you want someone to testify to that, fine. I’ll do it.”
Meliorn’s eyes slid to Raphael. “Is this true?”
Raphael shifted in his chair, his jaw flexing. “I wasn’t there that night. But as Simon says, he was, so we do have an eyewitness.”
Meliorn stared at them all for a long moment, then took his seat. “Very well. For the moment, I will accept the testimony of the vampire and the warlocks that Jace Wayland did not intend to deceive us. Provisionally, pending the outcome of these talks.” He met Alec’s eyes. “So let us begin. What does the Clave want with us, Shadowhunter? Why have you called us here?”
Alec didn’t kid himself that Raphael couldn’t hear his rapid heartbeat or that Luke couldn’t smell his fear. Nonetheless, he took slow, deliberate breaths to try to slow his racing pulse. He returned Meliorn’s gaze steadily and took his position at the far end of the table from Magnus and Dot, though he didn’t sit. Not yet.
“I want to first thank you all for coming, and Magnus for hosting. I know you’re giving me the benefit of the doubt just by showing up, and I appreciate it.” He gave a slight bow, a courtesy few, if any, Downworlders would expect to see from a Shadowhunter. For so many years, he’d been taught to approach negotiating with Downworlders from a position of inherent superiority. He pushed all that training aside, approaching them as humbly as he could manage.
"I also want you to know that I'm here acting without the knowledge or permission of the Clave. Their position on the recent hostilities is zero tolerance, and I've been ordered to convey those instructions to the Institute. I'm supposed to be implanting you all with tracking chips right now. If they find out I've called this summit, I could be charged with treason and deruned." Luke and Magnus both twitched at that, and Simon looked downright alarmed. "I have as much or more to lose than any of you. But Ms. Rollins is correct. Something needs to break this cycle or more people—Shadowhunters and Downworlders alike—are going to die."
He paused to let that sink in. He’d been practicing these opening remarks for days, fully aware that he had only one chance to sell this traitorous plan, and of what he risked with it.
“This goes beyond us, beyond New York. The conflict is spreading to other cities and other Institutes. The more Downworlder aggression against Shadowhunters that gets reported, the more the Shadowhunters are going to start to believe that maybe Valentine has the right idea. Isn’t that what happened with the first Circle uprising?” He glanced very briefly at Luke and Magnus for confirmation, and they both nodded tightly. “He provoked Downworlders and then convinced the Clave that the Downworlders were actually the aggressors. None of us wants to see history repeat itself. So I’m here to suggest—no, to entreat—that we work together to find a way to pull this situation back from the brink of a war none of us will win.”
Silence followed his speech and Alec finally took his seat, accepting Jace's soft pat on his back. He ventured a glance at each of the people assembled and was glad to see they all appeared thoughtful. They were at least mulling his words over, for better or worse.
“Why doesn’t the Clave hand over Valentine for execution the way we’ve asked?” Maia demanded. “They consider the life of a traitor more important than our laws.”
“They don’t hand him over because as far as they’re concerned, even the most treacherous Shadowhunter is too good to die at the hands of Downworlders,” said Meliorn’s lieutenant, whose name Alec hadn’t gotten.
Raphael tapped his pen on the table and leaned back in his chair. “Maia and Ghinea raise valid points. Your speech was pretty, Shadowhunter, but what are you going to offer to back it up? Or are you proposing we just meekly return to the way things have always been under the Accords?” he asked, giving Alec a challenging look.
"Forbidden entrance to Idris except in minimal, controlled numbers, as though we might pollute the Shadowhunter homeland?" Ghinea sneered. "Having the Law dictated to us by the Clave? Sneered at by the Shadowhunters when we seek redress for injustices done to us? The Circle uprising happened because the Clave regarded Valentine's lies as more credible than the Downworlders' truth, and nothing has changed in the decades since."
Maia nodded firmly. “Last week I was arrested for something I didn’t even do, just because I was a werewolf walking in the wrong place at the wrong time. There wasn’t a damn thing I could do to defend myself. If Raphael, Meliorn, and your sister hadn’t found out about Kaelie, I would be imprisoned or even dead by now. I don’t think any of us are interested in returning to a status quo that elevates Shadowhunters to the position of judge, jury, and executioner for all of us, especially when we have no recourse.”
“At the same time, we all have to be held accountable, and the mundanes protected," Luke said calmly. He gave Raphael and Magnus a steady look in turn. "To use an example, Camille should have been stopped decades earlier than she was. Since I took over the Brooklyn pack I've been working on dealing with rogue werewolves, but we've fallen short there in the past, too. The Clave's failing is that they don't uphold the Accords evenly and justly. The Covenant and the Accords themselves are sound in principle. The application just needs some work. So how we gonna make that happen?"
It still hurt a little. Even after all that had passed, Magnus couldn’t help the pang of bittersweet pride in Alec while he addressed the gathered Downworlders so earnestly. It had always astonished him that this unassuming, guileless Shadowhunter was the scion of one of the most self-important Nephilim dynasties Magnus had ever encountered. And Alec’s penchant for doing the unexpected was present in full force today.
At Alec’s gesture, Jace pulled a stack of documents from the portfolio they’d brought, and began passing copies around. Alec had clearly instructed his cocky brother to be as solemn as Alec himself was today. Or perhaps it was guilt that had taught Jace humility. He hadn’t spoken a word in his own defense when Meliorn had accused him of being responsible for the massacre at the Institute.
Alec watched them peruse the documents with a steady solemnity. He seemed to have matured years in the few months since Magnus had last spoken with him.
“These are drafts of a treaty,” he explained. “And before you ask, yes, it is negotiable. I put it together just to give us a starting point to work from, not to dictate terms. To summarize, it would establish what we’ve been calling the Brooklyn Shadow-World Council. It would be a committee of fifteen representatives, three from each faction: Shadowhunters, warlocks, vampires, werewolves, and the Fair Folk. Everyone on the committee will have an equal vote. How each faction chooses its representatives is their own internal affair, but three representatives each would allow for differing voices within the factions to be heard, instead of one representative speaking for all their people.”
“To what purpose?” Meliorn asked, though he barely glanced at the papers he’d been handed.
“The panel will serve to negotiate contentious issues between races and act as a tribunal when the Accords have been breached, if a faction doesn’t appear to be policing their own people to the satisfaction of the others,” Jace answered. “That means, though, that each faction is going to be held accountable for their people. Valentine is a monster, absolutely, but I saw those vamp dens of Camille's, and he wasn't wrong about those. The vampires should have stepped in long before it got to that point, and when that didn't happen, the Clave should have acted. Am I wrong?"
Raphael gritted his teeth for a moment, then shook his head. "No, you're not wrong. As leader of my clan, I should have been aware of Camille's activities and dealt with them sooner. That said, it was Shadowhunter interference in Camille’s imprisonment that unleashed her to commit those acts.” Simon squirmed under Raphael’s sideways glance. “The blood of the mundanes killed in those dens is on your people’s hands, not mine. You can’t tell us we’re responsible for policing our own and then sidestep our laws the moment you find them inconvenient. Which makes me wonder why I should trust that we won’t be betrayed by our allies under this proposed plan the way we were the last time we agreed to an alliance.”
“You’re right,” Alec took a slow breath, and Magnus could practically see him shuffling mental note cards. “Izzy and Clary should have been reprimanded, and if they were to do the same thing under this treaty, they would either have to be dealt with internally at the Institute, or they would be called before the tribunal. The goal here is to maintain the framework of the Accords, and the autonomy of all our people, while eliminating the uneven and sometimes negligent way the Law has been administered by the Clave. That means greater accountability for all of us, including Shadowhunters.”
Luke whistled under his breath, drumming his fingers on his copy of the treaty. “Alec—man, you weren’t kidding about the way the Clave is gonna react to this. You’ll be lucky if all they do is derune you.”
Alec closed his eyes for a moment, then licked his lips and shrugged. “I suppose that depends on how successful we are. If this works, then all we’ve done is exactly what we’re supposed to be doing: upholding and enforcing the Law. We’ll have resolved the Downworlder uprisings with no further bloodshed. The Clave has no reason to interfere with any of this and enforce their tracking chip order unless we fail to establish a lasting peace. As far as they need to be concerned, we’re not challenging their authority or trying to overthrow them. We’re just—implementing a local solution to a local problem.”
“And if the Clave doesn’t see it that way?” Magnus asked, staring until Alec gave up avoiding his gaze and met it full-on.
“Then we’re going to have a war on our hands and whether or not I’m deruned will be the least of everyone’s problems,” he replied grimly.
Meliorn leaned forward, folding his hands on the table before him. “What I’m hearing here is that no matter what we agree to, the Clave can sweep in and declare it null and void,” he pointed out. “In which case, we’ve accomplished nothing and this treaty is merely…political theater. It’s an entertaining diversion, but ultimately meaningless. In the end, the Clave still dictates to whom the Law applies and when. What reassurance can you offer that if it comes to a choice between the peace brokered by this ‘Brooklyn Shadow-World Council’ and the prejudice of the Clave, you’ll choose your allies?”
Alec clenched his hands, then turned them palm-up on the table. The body language wasn’t lost on Magnus, nor, he thought, on any of the others in the room. Hands visible. Open. Unthreatening. Nothing concealed. Offering peace. “If the Clave attempts to disrupt the operations of the Council, I—and whichever Shadowhunters agree to follow me—will renounce our allegiance to the Clave and form our own Institute, which will continue to honor the alliance.”
Magnus felt the pronouncement like a boulder dropped into his gut. If the Clave got wind of it, they'd consider it far beyond treason. Imprisonment, deruning, torture—Magnus wasn't sure any of those would encompass the consequences Alec could face for the declaration he'd just made, and anyone who followed him would meet the same fate.
"Let me be clear," Alec continued, giving Meliorn and Raphael a stern look. "If it comes to that, we will not instigate or support any act of unprovoked aggression against the Clave. But we will defend ourselves and our allies. That only applies, though, if the Clave hasn’t been provoked by a breach of the Accords. So as long as your people toe the line, the Clave should have no reason to attack you. If they do anyway? Well, then they’re the ones in violation of the Accords, and we’ll stand by our treaty and support you.”
They all fell silent again, mulling over Alec’s words. It was Jace who spoke next, his voice almost pleading. “You have to see that he’s putting everything on the line for you. For all of us. To save lives. What more can he do to convince you?”
“Yes, this selfless offer is quite moving,” Meliorn drawled. “But it wasn’t long ago that Alec Lightwood was personally escorting me to the City of Bones to be tortured and possibly killed by the Silent Brothers, at the Clave’s behest. So I have to wonder, why the change of heart? When did you acquire this sudden concern for saving Downworlder lives?”
The bitterly tired twist of Alec’s mouth made something in Magnus’s chest ache. “Meliorn, in all your centuries, can you honestly say you haven’t realized you were wrong-headed about something and tried to make it right?”
Magnus wanted to blast the smirk off Meliorn's lovely face as he replied, "Certainly. But as Raphael said before, these are merely pretty words without something more to back them up. Under the Covenant and the Accords, we've been treated like second-class citizens by the Clave. What reassurance can you offer that it won't be the same under your proposed Council? You yourself are the descendant of people who were once a part of Valentine Morgenstern's Circle. Your parents conducted unjust and illegal raids against Downworlders, acts that the Clave subsequently rationalized and ignored. Prejudice that deep is passed down in the mother's milk. How do we know you'll truly treat us as equals and deal with us as though our lives have just as much value as yours?"
“You’re angling for something, Meliorn,” Luke snapped. “Quit dancing around it and get to the point.”
“Papers—even those signed with blood—are a shallow commitment, and are easily sidestepped or interpreted in self-serving ways. And they say nothing of the mindset of the people signing them. My queen wants to see Downworlders standing beside the Nephilim as true equals before she’ll consider any treaty.”
A tingle of unease ran up Magnus’s spine and tightened his scalp. Meliorn was laying a trap. Luke could sense it, too, leaning forward in his chair.
“Standing beside us on the Council isn’t equal enough?” Alec asked. “It’s more than the Clave has ever offered you.”
“It’s also untested. The reality might fall short of the proposal.” Meliorn arched a challenging eyebrow at Alec. “If a Shadowhunter of notable rank within your administration at the Institute were to wed a Downworlder, uniting them as kin, it would make a powerful statement about your regard for Downworlders. Perhaps even enough to persuade my queen to take a look at your treaty.”
“Marriage? You’re not serious.” Jace scoffed. “In case you haven’t noticed, part of the point here is to drag Shadowhunter society into the 21st century.”
“If you wish to demonstrate your progressive regard for us, perhaps you shouldn’t be so casually dismissive of our cultural values.” Meliorn stared Jace down. “Intermarriage is a well-established tradition for cementing alliances. Even Shadowhunters resort to it when their family credibility is in question, do they not?” he continued, looking directly at Alec. Magnus clenched his fist on a flicker of angry magic.
Luke gave a disgusted sigh. “Don’t be an ass, Meliorn.”
“The Children of the Moon are young. Mortal. They do not keep to old ways,” Meliorn continued implacably. “But many of the Seelies, vampires, and warlocks are have been alive since a time when such alliances were commonly forged. They would not consider it passé in the slightest. It’s a perfectly valid bargaining tool.”
Jace snorted. “Oh, I get it. Look, if this is your attempt to seal the deal with Izzy, I hate to break it to you, but I think she’s moved on.”
Raphael suddenly sat up a little straighter, drawing Magnus’s eyes, but he said nothing.
"And on, and on again," Meliorn smirked. "Even if we were still seeing each other, it would be amusing to see how many of your bones Isabelle would break for suggesting she'd be amenable to settling down. But no, I'm not at liberty to offer myself as a potential candidate. None of our people would willingly wed the Shadowhunter who caused so many of our deaths, which rules out you, Jace Wayland, and rumor has it Clary Fairchild is likewise unavailable. Which leaves your Head of the Institute as the only Shadowhunter with the clout to make the sort of gesture that might sway my queen. If you'd like, I could submit a list of eligible Seelie maidens who would be happy to help shoulder the burden of leading the New York Institute."
“For someone so well informed, your gossip is a little out of date, Meliorn,” Alec gritted. “Or you’d know maidens aren’t exactly my thing.”
Magnus blinked in surprise. Not long ago, Alec would never have made such a bald pronouncement. The turmoil of recent events had apparently changed more than just the political landscape.
Alec’s eyes flicked to him for just the smallest fraction of a second, but it was enough to take Magnus back to that moment months ago when he looked up from Camille’s kiss to see Alec standing there, looking like he’d been gutted. Magnus hadn’t learned until several hours later that Alec had called off his own wedding the night before. By then it had been too late to take back that instant in Camille’s arms.
He snapped back to the present as Meliorn waved Alec’s words off with a negligent flick of his hand. “The Fair Folk do not tend not to concern ourselves with such trivialities as the gender of a potential mate.”
“And what about the species?” Luke challenged. “Would your queen still see it as a statement about Downworlders equality if Alec or one of his people married a werewolf or vampire? Or is this just an attempt to get one of your own people into the Institute?”
“I don’t foresee any of my people being all that interested in marrying a Shadowhunter,” Raphael said calmly. “Still, that is an excellent question.”
Meliorn frowned thoughtfully. “Very well. As long as there is compelling evidence that Alec Lightwood sees us all—regardless of species—as equal enough to wed, my queen will be sufficiently satisfied to give the treaty her consideration. I am authorized to inform you that until negotiations are completed or break down entirely, the Seelies will keep to their own realms and will aid neither side of the conflict between the Shadowhunters and the other Downworlders. However, attempts to delay or draw out these negotiations indefinitely may result in a resumption of hostilities. Beyond that, I can offer you nothing.”
When Meliorn rose, they all did. He swept out of the room with his lieutenant a step behind him, clearly done with them all.
Which left little for the rest of them to say.
Raphael meticulously straightened the papers Jace had handed him and stacked them with the notes he’d been taking. He handed the pile to Simon, who nearly dropped them trying to tuck them into a portfolio. “I’ll go over your proposed treaty and discuss it with the leaders of the other clans,” he told Alec. “I’ll be in touch if we have any amendments we wish to make. Or if we vote to reject the proposal entirely.”
Alec gave a slight bow of his head. “Thank you, Raphael. I appreciate you taking the time to attend and consider it.”
Luke clapped Alec on the shoulder as he made his way toward the door after Raphael and Simon departed. “It’s a good start, Alec. It just may take time.”
“Assuming we can trust a word of it,” Maia muttered, giving Jace a venomous side-eye that provoked an uncharacteristic flinch. Jace opened his mouth but nothing came out, and after a moment, Maia shook her head in disgust and stomped out the door.
"Don't give up yet," Luke said with a sigh and followed her.
Dot excused herself to go get some rest and portaled back to her own lair, and Magnus busied himself getting a drink while over by the door, Alec and Jace had a short conversation with their eyes. Jace departed without a word, leaving them alone for only the second time since Magnus had tried to talk Alec out of going through with his wedding—though Magnus wasn't sure he could even really count those hours he'd spent at an unconscious Alec's bedside, trying to keep him alive.
For months he’d imagined what he would say if he just had a chance to talk to Alec, to explain. But now, watching Alec hovering uncertainly near the door?
Magnus couldn’t find a single word to say.

Malec & s2 fairy tale tropes
It’s not a secret that fairy tale AUs are quite popular in fandom, but what is more interesting is that the canon too played with this trope in season 2.
I’ve counted at least three fairy tale references / reimaginings – the first two are the most obvious ones – the Sleeping Beauty’s kiss (2x03), and the Beast’s wilting rose (2x18); the third one is probably a bit harder to recognize at first sight since it wasn’t yet adapted by Disney – the myth of Cupid and Psyche, which was also used in the TMI books (as far as I can see from the book spoilers). [And also little bonus: Malec vs. the demon!dragon]
1) Imo, the elements of the “Sleeping Beauty” fairy tale were not just used for one episode only, as it seems the tale’s narrative was, broken into two parts – the aforementioned 2x03 and, later, it resurfaced in 2x08.
From what I saw in tags, the Malec part of the fandom didn’t really like that trope in 2x03 much, for one - some thought it was a bit problematic because there was no consent for the kiss (which again, is the problem of the original fairy tale, most folkstales and myths in their original form are kind of problematic), the others didn’t like it because the kiss didn’t work, and thus was not of much use in the plot (also, the-ship-that-shall-not-be-named used it for its own incest-y purposes).
But, as the 2x18 “The Beauty and the Beast” reimagining showed, that probably was the point – they were not adapting the trope in its original form, but were subverting it.
The kiss did not work... but, in all fairness, it wasn’t the “true love’s kiss” that had awoken the Princess in the fairy tale (the Perrault’s version, not the Disney adaptation). The kiss, or, better yet, the Prince, was merely the part of the curse’s solution. True, Magnus is not the “Prince” in this scenario, instead, he acts as the “Good Fairy” - again, from the Perrault’s version, who saved the “Princess” and altered the evil prophesy.
The seventh fairy, who hasn't yet given her gift, attempts to reverse the evil fairy's curse. However, she can only do so partially. Instead of dying, the Princess will fall into a deep sleep for 100 years and be awakened by a kiss from a king's son... [After the curse is fulfilled] the good fairy who altered the evil prophecy is summoned. Having great powers of foresight, the fairy sees that the Princess will awaken to distress when she finds herself alone, so the fairy puts everyone in the castle to sleep. The fairy also summons a forest of trees, brambles and thorns that spring up around the castle, shielding it from the outside world and preventing anyone from disturbing the Princess. (x)
And here is why 2x08 also is part of this fairy tale narrative – we have the party and uninvited old fairy warlock – Iris, who curses the guests, and Magnus again, works as the “Good Fairy”, reverses the spell and saves the “Princess” along the way.
In the original fairy tale (the first part of the tale at least, not the second one about creepy cannibalism) it was the Good Fairy, who was the real hero of the story – the one who didn’t let the Princess die, who reversed the spell, who made sure that the Princess won’t be alone, when she wakes up 100 years later, who made sure that no creep or pervert would disturb the Princess’ and her people’s slumber. Whereas, the Prince was more like a device – a guy who just happened to be at the right time in the right place. And same in 2x03 – it was Magnus, who kept Alec alive - without his magic Alec would’ve been dead long before Jace could come.
Eta: The Malec vs. dragon!demon scene from 2x20 looks very similar to the Prince Phillip and the fairies fighting against dragon!Maleficent.
2) The wilting rose and “the Beauty and the Beast” narrative was established in 2x18, but in fact, started earlier, in 2x15, when Magnus metaphorically “recognized” himself as the “Beast” via his confession to Alec about his mother and stepfather - “He called me an abomination. He was right.” As in the tale, Alec (the “Beauty”) wasn’t repulsed by his “ugliness” but saw his real “beauty”.
In 2x18 the writing yet again subverts the fairy tale trope - the “Beauty”, despite true love, can’t save the “Beast” from what he is, the “Beast” can’t turn into a “prince”, because there is no curse to begin with. The “Beast” has to defend the people in his castle from the angry xenophobic mob (the Clave and Valentine); he has to choose between the safety of his people and his love for the “Beauty”.
3) Now, the last, but not the least fairy tale trope that we have in season 2 – the myth of Cupid and Psyche. The main distinguishing element of this trope is the violation of trust between the two lovers, which leads to their break up and later reunion.
From what I know about the books, the variation of this myth was at the basis for the book!Malec break up as well.
“Cupid and Psyche” is travelling myth that has numerous variations in folklore and fairy tales (for example “East of the Sun and West of the Moon”, “White-Bear-King-Valemon” etc. etc.).
In the TMI books, similar to the myth / fairy tales: the book!Magnus (“Cupid”) holds the book!Alec (“Psyche”) at arm’s length, and doesn’t tell the whole truth about himself, so Alec is manipulated by the evil sisters Camille to go behind Magnus’ back, and thus unwittingly betrays him. Which leads to the breach of trust, and eventual break up between the two, even though they do love each other (similar how it was in the myth / fairy tales).
The show, however, turned this trope on its head, when they added political and racial aspects to the betrayal. Again, despite loving Alec, Magnus breaks up with him, but not because he has a wounded ego to heal, or because of some curse, like in fairy tales, but because, although Alec was oblivious of it, his betrayal of trust bore heavy racial connotations and could have had serious repercussions for the entire Downworld race.
Here we have, on one hand, the Clave act as the “jealous sisters” in the plot, except it’s not jealousy, but systematic racism that is the cornerstone for the betrayal. On the other hand, we have the Seelie Queen act as “Venus / the Troll Princess / the Evil Witch”. In the myth and fairy tales, when Psyche / the Princess comes to Venus’ / the Evil Witch’s palace, she can’t talk to the Cupid / the Prince either because he’s in some enchanted sleep, or can’t recognize his beloved because of the spell. Compare this arc to 2x19, where Magnus couldn’t interact with Alec at the meeting, because his deal with the Queen didn’t allow him to speak there.
It really is interesting how the writers subverted the elements of the “Cupid and Psyche” myth and gave it a racial and political subtext, which makes a lot of sense, considering that Malec is not only an LGBT couple, but an interracial couple in the middle of a racially charged war.
But on the other hand, this same element of trust from the C&P myth was overplayed in 2x12 - in the myth Psyche, in the beginning of their relationship, couldn’t see Cupid, because he never showed her his true appearance. In folklore fairytale versions like “East of the Sun and West of the Moon” or “White-Bear-King-Valemon” he was disguised as some beast (bear), due to the Evil Queen’s curse. In the book the jealous sisters manipulate Psyche / the princess to betray Cupid’s / the prince’s trust and take a look at him while he’s asleep. The drop from the burning candle wounds and wakes up Cupid / the prince and he leaves Psyche. – thus the breach of trust element.
Compare to Valentine / Magnus switch in 2x12, due to Azazel’s meddling. Magnus, like Cupid is “disguised” from Alec. He tries to assure him of his true identity but Alec doesn’t believe him because of Jace’s and Imogen’s persuasions - here the later two function in the plot as the “jealous” sisters of Psyche. Like Psyche and Cupid, Alec and Magnus are in the beginning of their relationship, so that’s why Psyche and Alec listen to other people, but not their loved ones (Cupid / Magnus). Plus the parallels between the burned wound and the agony rune.
Also, if we really want to overanalyze it “Cupid” (Latin: Cupido, “Desire” or “Amor;” Greek: “Eros” or “Love”) and “Psyche” (Greek: “Soul” or “Breath of Life”) represent allegorical unity of soul and divine love. Alec represents “Soul” and Magnus represents “Love”. A Soul cannot live without Love.
And yeah, maybe I’m overanalyzing and these are just random coincidences (save for the SB kiss and BatB wilting rose - these were intentional references), but it’s worth noting how Magnus in all of these scenarious represents a magical character whether it’s the “Good Fairy”, or the “Beast”, or “Cupid”... after all, Magnus is quite magical.

Shadowhunter AU pt. 7
Kevin glowered all the way to the club, which Andrew soundly ignored. Before meeting Kevin, Andrew had never met someone who could stare so loudly. Neil had that talent as well. He wasn’t looking forward to having the full force of both Neil and Kevin’s irritation, but he also wasn’t opposed to cracking skulls in order to complete what needed to be done, metaphorically and literally. The two of them would act like territorial dogs to be sure, but they would be easy enough to tear apart.
Sure enough, the moment Neil saw Kevin, he bolted like a spooked cat. He tried to get around Andrew, but Andrew’s arm slammed into his stomach, leaving him dazed on the ground. He sprung up quickly though, glaring at Kevin.
“You set me up,” he accused Andrew.
“I did not. Kevin wants to stop Riko as much as us.”
Neil narrowed his eyes. “Don’t bullshit me. Riko is his parabatai. He couldn’t break that even if he wanted to.”
“Riko lied,” Kevin spat back. “He broke our oath when he kept his true plans from me. When he put my life in danger. It’s true that I can’t reverse the bond, but it’s also irrelevant. I’m here, and I want to stop him.”
Neil raised an eyebrow. “You understand that stopping him is going to involve killing him, right?”
Kevin swallowed. “Yes.”
Neil sat down at the table in a huff. “I still don’t trust you.”
Andrew rolled his eyes. “You don’t have a choice. None of us do. The Clave won’t help as long as they still feel the need to protect their own. That’s their priority. So we’re what you’ve got. Unless you’ve found some Downworlders willing to help?”
Neil shifted uncomfortably. “They know whose son I am. They won’t help me.”
“You mean they know who raised you? Got a grudge?”
Neil shook his head. “My mother raised me. She’s dead. She died trying to hide me from my father.”
“Your demonic parent.”
“Right.”
A look of horror crossed Kevin’s face. “That’s who Riko was trying to raise, wasn’t it? That’s why you got involved? And why you ran?”
Neil nodded. “I was trying to stop them. If he comes for me…”
“If he comes for you, we will handle it,” Andrew said, cutting through their panic.
Kevin still looked wary. “His father is a Greater Demon, Andrew. We can’t handle that without backup. We have to tell the Clave.”
Andrew shook his head and pushed Kevin’s chest. “You know as well as I do that we do that, we’re good as dead. We’re going to keep our mouths shut. Unless you have any more bright ideas?”
Kevin shook his head in defeat and the three of them gathered around the table to discuss their next plans. Neil was going to work on finding Downworlder support, while Kevin was going to try to discern which Shadowhunters would be sympathetic to their case, as well as continue working on finding Jean, for whoever had him certainly had information and a stake in Riko’s plan, for better or worse. Andrew was in charge of logistics and getting intel on Riko’s whereabouts.
As they walked back to the Institute, Kevin asked, “Are you sure you can trust him?”
“No,” Andrew answered, “But he’s useful, so we don’t have a choice.”
Andrew didn’t lie to others, but that didn’t mean he didn’t occasionally dabble in self-delusion.

VERSES
Here are all of the universes I play Chris in. If you want a thread set in a particular verse, let me know. If you don't see a verse that works for your muse, I'm always happy to make a closed verse for our muses.
Threads within a verse are on their own timeline or sub-verse, especially multiple threads with one partner in a specific verse (since they tend to build their own continuity).
MISC.
v: TEENAGE WASTELAND ( Teen. )
Gen. verse for all the threads in any verse where Chris is a teenager. FC: Dylan Sprayberry
Tag: #v: Teenage Wasteland ( Teen )
v: UNDETERMINED
All threads with an undetermined verse go here.
Tag: #v: Undetermined
CANON/MAIN
v: BACK IN TIME ( Main / Season 6. )
Follows the canon storyline for season six, picking up after Chris has established himself as the Charmed Ones' Whitelighter and (reluctantly) helped them rescue Leo from Valhalla.
Note: I play Chris as if the Charmed Ones and Leo are still unaware of his true identity.
Tag: #v: Back in Time ( Main )
Subverse: SEE THESE EYES SO GREEN ( Werepanther!Chris )
v: IF I CAN’T SAVE YOU, I SWEAR I’LL STOP YOU ( Unchanged Future. )
Chris’s older brother Wyatt has turned evil and taken over both the magical and mortal communities (the Twice-Blessed Child is now akin to the Source of All Evil). Chris is secretly trying to come up with a plan to save Wyatt all while trying to survive.
Tag: #v: If I Can’t Save You I Swear I’ll Stop You ( Unchanged Future )
v: CHARMED LEGACY ( Changed Future. )
Chris grew up battling demons and other forces of evil alongside his older brother Wyatt, younger sister Melinda, and his assorted cousins, carrying on the Charmed Ones’ legacy once Piper, Phoebe, and Paige “retired” from magical work.
Although he doesn't serve as a Whitelighter, Chris will often take it upon himself to help out new witches who are just growing into their powers.
Tag: #v: Charmed Legacy ( Changed Future )
CANON AU
v: HE’S FALLEN FROM GRACE TILL THE END OF ALL HIS DAYS ( Evil!Chris / Mirror Universe. )
Chris is a Darklighter-witch and serves as an assassin, taking out witches, Whitelighters, and demons. He cannot heal; instead, he has the ability to kill his victims with a touch.
Tag: #v: He’s Fallen From Grace Till the End of All His Days ( Evil!Chris )
v: ALL HELL BREAKS LOOSE ( “Morality Bites” timeline. )
Magic was exposed in 2009 when Phoebe Halliwell used her powers to kill Cal Greene. While a local D.A. Nathaniel Pratt began a modern-day witch hunt as a platform for political office, many witches went further underground. Others decided they'd had enough of hiding and it was time to fight back.
Chris has gone into hiding, only using his magic when it's strictly necessary.
Tag: #v: All Hell Breaks Loose ( Morality Bites AU )
AU
v: STUDENTLIGHTER ( College AU. )
Chris is attending college at UCLA (University of California, Los Angeles) for their nursing program. As such, he is a School of Nursing student (going for a Bachelor of Science as an undergrad and a Masters Entry Clinical Nurse for his masters/graduate). He's also working his way through school with a part-time job at a strip club. However, studies tend to become rather difficult when magical hijinks keep ensuing.
Tag: #v: Studentlighter ( College )
v: BLOOD WITCH ( SWEEP series AU. )
Chris Halliwell is the second-born child to Piper and Leo Halliwell, and the latest in the Warren line—a powerful line of hereditary "blood witches". Chris is half-Woodbane through his mother (one of the Seven Great Clans)—and while he's not as powerful as his mother, aunts, or his older brother, he is very knowledgeable about the Craft and is very skilled with his own magick.
Tag: #v: Blood Witch ( Sweep series AU )
CROSSOVER
v: SAVING PEOPLE, HUNTING THINGS ( Supernatural. )
After a spell gone awry in an attempt to escape Wyatt’s forces, Chris has found himself in an entirely different universe. He still has his witchlighter powers and has (eventually) found himself working alongside Dean and Sam Winchester and the angel Castiel.
Tag: #v: Saving People Hunting Things ( Spn )
v: I’M FIGHTING THIS WAR SINCE THE DAY OF THE FALL ( Freeform’s Shadowhunters. )
Chris has moved to New York City partly to get away from Wyatt and Leo, partly to investigate the increase in demonic activity. While there he encounters the Shadowhunters, the Institute, learns about the war with Valentine; and does whatever he can to help: hunt demons, protect Downworlders, make sure Valentine doesn't succeed in obtaining the rest of the Mortal Instruments, keep news of his location hidden from his older brother... And he has to try not to seriously injure anyone who refers to him as a warlock.
Note: Have watched up to s2e14 in TV canon.
Tag: #v: I’m Fighting This War Since the Day of the Fall ( Shadowhunters )
v: I DON’T CARE IF HEAVEN WON’T TAKE ME BACK ( The Mortal Instruments. )
Chris has time-traveled back to 2007 on orders from the Elders. His mission: watch over a certain group of Nephilim from the New York Institute and do whatever he can to guide and help in the Mortal War. After Valentine is killed by Raziel, Chris shifts his focus to fighting against Jonathan Morgenstern (aka Sebastian) in the Dark War alongside the Shadowhunters and Downworlders.
Note: Have read up to City of Fallen Angels in main series, The Bane Chronicles, and Tales from the Shadowhunter Academy.
Tag: #v: I Don’t Care if Heaven Won’t Take Me Back ( The Mortal Instruments )
v: INSANITY IS ALL AROUND US ( MTV’s Teen Wolf. )
Piper decided to move the boys to Beacon Hills, California, when Chris was just about to start sophomore year at his old high school. It's not long before the teenage witchlighter realizes there's something supernatural about Beacon Hills and winds up getting himself involved in the drama between bitten Beta werewolf Scott McCall and his pack, werewolf hunters, and other hijinks.
Note: Chris' default age for this verse will be 16+. It will primarily follow season 1 & 2 of Teen Wolf, but I can easily jump around in the series' timeline.
Tag: #v: Insanity Is All Around Us ( Teen Wolf )
CLOSED
v: Southern Style Black Magic ( lovelycajunnurse. )
Magical Roma aren't supposed to have Whitelighters, but Chris was never really one for following the Elders' rules. His most recent charge is Bailey Thibodeaux, a Roma that lives in Florida (and who is originally from Louisiana).
Tag: #v: Southern Style Black Magic
v: Dual War ( naturalblcnde. )
It started after San Francisco fell and the SF Institute fell with it. That’s when the Clave began to accept that Wyatt Halliwell was indeed a threat, not just to the witches sequestered in that area. When they tried to resettle in New York, Wyatt attacked them too.
It was then the Clave and the few leaders the witches had came to an agreement. Teams of witches and Shadowhunters in equal measure were formed, fighting the hordes of relentless evil even as they were cut down. Witches took Shadowhunter runes, Shadowhunters made witches potions and helped to make one that activated , both learning to utilize and share their respective skills. Teams became family, witch and Shadowhunter bloodlines mixing and forming a new type of warrior.
Chris Halliwell has been partnered with Jace Wayland, a Shadowhunter and the team leader. Unbeknownst to the Clave, they've come up with a way to prevent this war from ever happening: Chris travels back in time to save his older brother.
Everything goes downhill after that.

Prompt(if u r taking them rn): Soulmate!AU where everything Alec or Magnus write on their skin turns up on the others skin and one of them is just writing down where they need to be and the other one tries to find them and idk, do what you want with it:D (I hope u're taking prompts)
Okay, I loved this prompt immensely and if I was healthier I’d probably write a long about it, but this is what I came up with and I hope it’s a bit decent; it’s almost 4k words and it’s probably not exactly what you had in mind, and it’s 2 am so there are definitely a few mistakes that I’ll try to fix tomorrow. I really, really hope you like it! Thanks to @estefra and @johnistheantivirus for beta’ing and insulting me and hitting me.Warning for rating M
You know I’m feeling the same thing
Alec is pissed.
Thiswas all Jace’s fault. And he loves Jace. He does. But bythe Angel ifthat boy doesn’t stop running head first into situations withoutconsulting him first Alec is going to lose his mind. And probably alimb, since his stomach was torn open not two hours ago.
Jacehas, of course, apologized multipletimes, until Alec had to kick him out of his room because he wants to healin peace.
Sonow he’s lying on his back, staring at the ceiling whilethe skin on his arm slowly knits itself backtogether, and he feels exhausted, like healways doeswhen he has to use the iratze multiple times ina row.
Hecloses his eyes, figuring he might as well sleep it off; he’snot hungry anyway.
He’sjust closed his eyes when the skin on his forearm tingles slightly, and he groans, considers for a moment just pretending he didn’t feelit, but he knows that’d be rude; he opens his eyes and looks down athis arm.
Would you mind trying to keepall your limbs attached for at least three days in a row? My skin isruined because of you.
Alec rolls his eyes but reachesfor a pen he always keeps close, just in case.
Sorry my pain inconveniencesyou
He gets to play the guilt card,he does. He’s had a crappy day. He doesn’t bother closing his eyes again, justwatches as the words slowly disappear from his skin.
It doesn’t take long for theanswer to come.
Have you healed yet?
He can almost feelthe slight guilt.
He glances at his injuredstomach.
Not really
He’s not expecting the answer hegets, but he’s not disappointed.
Come over, I’ll help you out.
And, before he can point out howwalking could be a problem,
Making a portal right now.
~
Magnusholds his shirt gently against his stomach as he unwraps the bandagesaround his waist.
-Itdoesn’t look too bad,- he says thoughtfully as he examines the wound, and Alec sighs: -I know. I’m just tired, the iratze isn’t working aswell as it should.
Magnussmiles at him, cat-like as he straightens up: -Well, don’t worry. Weare going to fix you right up.
Hesnaps his fingers and his blue magic starts dancing on the palm ofhis hand, ready to bend at his will; Magnus turns his hand, palm opentowards Alec’s stomach, and the relief he feels is immediate as themagic numbs him and speeds up the healing process, tickling himslightly.
Hecloses his eyes and throws his head back and he’s pretty sure Magnusis smiling at him, deeply self-satisfied.
-Whatever,-he mumbles, and nowhe’sdefinitelysure Magnusis smirking.
-Done,-Magnus says after a few seconds, his magic vanishing like firewithout oxygen, and he pokes Alec in the stomach where the wound hadbeen: -Sore?
Alecdoesn’tyelp. He lets his shirt fall on his skin as he glares at Magnus: -Notat all.
-Verywell,- Magnus turns with a little twirl, his long jacket wrappingaround his legs: -Are you staying for dinner?
Alecrubs his stomach; he always feels a bit weird after Magnus has healedhim: -If it’s not a bother.
Magnuslooks at him over his shoulder, a glint in his eyes: -You know itisn’t. What are you in the mood for?
Alechums: -Pizza on the couch?
Magnuslooks almost offended at the request, but nonetheless he complies, snapping his fingers with a fluid movement on his wrist to make twopizza boxes appear on the table in the living room.
Alecsmiles happily and walkstowards it, slightly wobbly on his legs; Magnus can protest as muchas he wants, Alec knows he enjoys pizza-on-the-couch nights as muchas he does.
Hetakes his own pizza box – pepperoni, thank you very much, none ofthat pineapple nonsense – and sits down on the coach with anappreciative sigh.
Magnusis more gracious about it, snapping his fingers to get some tissuesand plates, and grabs a couple of slices from his own box beforesitting next to Alec, cross-legged.
-So,-he says, biting into his slice, -What happened?
Alecrolls his eyes as he chews; he swallows before answering: -Jacehappened, of course. Went after a Demon by himself, and then itturned out there was actually a dozen of them and we didn’t have timeto call for backup.
Magnushums in acknowledgement as he chews: -That’s the third time in twomonths. I might actually have to charge him for all the times I haveto reattach some parts of your body.
Alecglances at him: -You know that if it’s a problem – -, but Magnuswaves him off before he has a chance to finish: -I’m just jokingaround, Alexander.
Theyeat in silence for a few minutes, and then Magnus clears his throat:-It’s Thursday, you know?
Aleclooks up and away, his ears burning: -Yeah, I know.
-Istill like you,- Magnus says, smiling like he’s teasing him just alittle.
-That’sgood to know,- Alec says, gruffly, biting into his pizza so that hedoesn’t have to say anything else.
Magnusresumes eating, looking satisfied: -Sex after pizza?
Alecalmost chokes: -Yeah,-he says, voice sounding strangled; he clears his throat: -Yeah, whynot.
~
Magnuspushes his hair from his forehead while Alec’s eyes are closed, headthrown back, his fingers slipping uselessly on Magnus’ smooth back, amoan escapes his lips because Magnus is everywhere,on him and inside him and some would say even in his soul, and it’sgood,it’s so good Alec isn’t sure how to keep it all inside his chest.
Hesays: -Kiss me,- and Magnus does, he always does, kisses him deep andslow, matches the timing of his thrusts and Alec feels safe withMagnus’ arms framing his head and Magnus’ fingers tangled in hishair, and he wraps a hand around his own cock, messy anduncoordinated and uncomfortable, and Magnus whispers: -Comeon,-against his lips, and Alec comes with a moan, lips open againstMagnus’ as he stills, shivers wrecking his spine.
Hecan feel Magnus’ smile against his own lips, and he murmurs: -Comeon,-sleepily, his legs wrapped loosely around Magnus’ waist.
~
He’smade it a point to never sleep over.
Magnusis sleeping, back bare against his dark blue sheets, and Alec looksat him for a second only before taking his shoes and walking away.
~
-Isn’tit a bit late to be coming home?
Alecstarts at the voice, and curses when he spots Izzy, who’s sitting onthe couch with her legs tucked under her and her laptop in front ofher.
-Idon’t think so,- he says, whispering just in case anyone else isawake.
Izzyraises her eyebrows, knowingly: -How’s Magnus?- she asks, tonecasual, and Alec bites his tongue. -He’s fine.
Izzyhums: -He’s still okay with your wholeI-won’t-be-in-a-relationship-with-my-soulmate thing?
Alecrolls his eyes: -Not that it’s any of your business,- he says, indignant, -But yes,he is.
Izzylooks sceptical: -Sure he is,- she says, tapping a couple of times onthe keyboard.
-Listen,-Alec growls, turning towards her, -We are both mature enough torealise that a relationship between us would be impossible,so we’re doing the best we can with what we have. Mind your ownbusiness.
Izzyraises her arms, showing him her palms: -I’m just saying, bigbrother. You’re the only person I know who’s actually wastinghissoulmate.
-I’malso the only Shadowhunter who has a Downworlderasa soulmate,- he whispers furiously, -AWarlockontop of that!
Izzyjust rolls her eyes, putting the headphones back into her ears:-Fine. You do you,- she says with a sigh, her eyes already focusingon the screen.
Alecthrows his hands up before walking away.
~
Theskin on his hip is tingling when he wakes up, and he pulls down hispyjama pants; he sees the hickey Magnus sucked into his skin beforehe sees what he’s written.
Goodnight
Aleccloses his eyes and throws his head back onto the pillow.
~
Jaceis the one who finds him in the gym; he leans his weight on the dooras he takes him in, his eyebrows furrowed in a slightly worriedexpression: -You stay at Magnus’ last night?
Alecpunches harder: -What thehell,-he says, a punch between every two words, -is up with everyonetoday?- he stops the punching bag with his hand, turns to look atJace: -Yes,I stayed at Magnus’ last night. He helped with the wound youwerepartially responsible for and we had dinner, that’s all.
Jaceflinches and Alec feels only a bit guilty.
-Iwas just asking,- Jace mumbles, -Plus, I was looking for you. We havea mission.
Alecretrieves his hoodie and his bottle of water: -What mission?- he asksas he uncaps it.
-Youknow those Demons I was going after yesterday?
Aleclooks at him and then, pointedly, at his own stomach.
Jacerolls his eyes: -Yes, well, they weren’t normal Demons. Apparently aWarlock is trying to create some kind of Vampire-slash-Demon hybrid.Clary and Izzy have already narrowed it down to three Warlocks, wehave to search the City and find them.
-Great,-Alec says, dryly, throwing the towel over his shoulder.
Jacepats him on the back.
~
Heimmediately spots him in the crowd – he’s pretty sure it’s gotsomething to do with their bond, how he can pick him out so easily, but, for the first time since he’s found out Magnus is his soulmate,he wishes it weren’t so easy.
Hefreezes.
Magnus’arms are wrapped around some Seelie’s waist, the Seelie’s armswrapped around Magnus’ neck, and they are dancing and they are close,so close Alec feels like he can’t breathe, their noses are almosttouching and Magnus is wearing his amused smirk and Alec is going tobe sick,he turns on his heels and pushes his way out of the Pandemonium, Jacecalling his name behind him.
Hetakes a deep breath as soon as he’s outside, the cold air soothingagainst his skin as the tries not to panic, his muscles rigid withthe effort to keep himself from shaking.
Hecan feelthemoment Magnus walks out the door, Jace following right behind him.
Redfury starts climbing its way up his throat; he turns toward him, fists so tight they almost hurt against his thighs: -What was that?-he asks, pointing at the club, and Magnus stops in his steps, worriedexpression turning hard.
Jacetakes a step back.
-Whatdo you mean?- Magnus asks, and the way he holds himself so calm andcomposed makes Alec’s hands tremble.
-Theway you were – dancingwiththat Seelie.
Magnus’back becomes unnaturally rigid: -I was having fun, Alexander,- hesays, sounding almost annoyed, -I didn’t know it was prohibited.
-Sure,-Alec says, a cruel grin curling his lips, -If that’s the way youusually havefun,-mocking, -We should probably start using condoms,-he growls like he’s throwing it against him.
Jacetakes another step back as he grimaces.
Acold fury takes over Magnus’ features: -YouidiotNephilim,-he says, voice clear and hard, -How dareyou?Should I remind you that you are the one who said this,-he moves his hand between them, -Shouldn’t be exclusive?-,he says the word like it’s the most stupid thing he’s ever heard.
Alecpresses his lips together, and he – he suddenly recognises thatit’s not anger that’s painfully twisting his stomach. It’s jealousy.
-Butthat doesn’t mean – - he tries, but he sounds weaker and Magnustakes a step forward, implacable: -That’s exactlywhatit means,- he says, and his eyes are unforgiving as they dig deepinto Alec’s: -You think it didn’t hurt?- he asks, low, -You think itdidn’t tear my world down when you said you didn’t wantthis?
-Inever said I didn’t want this,- Alec says, jealousy turning intodesperation so quickly it leaves him with a hole in his chest, -It’sjust – complicated.
-Oh,but sleeping with me isn’t complicated at all, is it?- Magnus asks, acold smile on his lips, -Or asking for my help. It’s only beingwithme that’s complicated.
-Youknow that’s not the way it is,- Alec says, urgency pushing him totake a step forward to make sure Magnus doesn’t slip away from hisfingers, -You knowthatI’m just – I just –
-Youwhat?
-I’mterrified,-Alec snaps, flinching at his own admission as he looks down, -We –I don’t know how wecouldwork!
-Iknow exactlyhow wecould work,-Magnus says, -You could stop letting your cowardiceholdyou back and you could believe that Imightbe worth it, but until you do that, don’t you dare,-his voice shakes, -Don’t you dare accuse meofsleeping with someone else when I’ve been trying to tell you that I’min love with you once a week for three months.
Hetakes a step back and Alec feels like he can’t move at all. He staresat Magnus, eyes wide, and he feels like he’s bleeding somewhere.
Magnus’eyes are hurt when he says: -I think you have work to do,- beforedisappearing into the alley behind the Pandemonium.
Alecstands still, bats his eyelashes furiously until he realises he’scrying.
~
Izzyand Clary buy ice-cream, Jace buys Chinese and Alec just stays curledup on the couch.
-Well,-Clary says, glancing hesitantly at him, -It’s – I mean, it’s not sobad, is it? I mean, you love him too, you just have to tell him.
Alecstares at her.
Izzyrolls her eyes: -Please, please, tell me you’d figured it out on your own.
-I– don’t think he had,- Jace says, picking up his noodle soup.
Izzythrows her arms up in defeat: -Alec,-she says, frustration clear in her voice.
-Whatmakes you think that I’m in love with him?- Alec croaks, looking atClary because she probablywon’tinsult him.
Claryclears her throat: -Well, it’s pretty obvious,- she says, turning itinto almost a question, -I mean, you always look for him when youfeel down or when you’re hurt or when you’re happy,- she offers him asmall smile: -You kind of use a lot of excuses to go see him.
-Andyou’reconstantly talking about him,- Jace adds, stealing Clary’s spoon ofice-cream. Clary makes a face at him.
-Andyou’re absolutely terrifiedofscrewing things up,- Izzy adds, like she’s already done with theconversation, -Which makes you an idiot for not trying anyway, by theway.
Alecglares at her, but it’s a weak thing. -But he’s – he’s aDownworlder. He’s immortal.
Allthree of them raise their eyebrows. -So what?- Clary asks.
-Youknow how my parents would react if we were in an actualrelationship!- Alec protests, -And I just – I don’t want to –hurthim. He’s – he’ll get another soulmate.
Izzyrolls her eyes: -Sure, because mum and dad are looking for a wife foryou right now because you’d definitelymarryin a heartbeat for duty,it wouldn’t bother you atall.
-Plus,-Jace adds, returning to his noodle soup, -I think Magnus can decidefor himself what he wants.
-Hedoesn’t wantme,-Alec says, rolling his eyes because he hopes it’ll hide how muchadmitting it out loud is hurting him, -It’s just – the soulmatesthing, we’re not – we’re not rightforeach other.
There’salmost a minute of silence before Izzy kneels on the carpet in frontof him and forces him to look her in the eyes: -Alec,- she says, andnow she sounds like she understands a bit better, -There is nothing, nothing,Magnus wouldn’t do for you,- she says, softly, -He’s inlove withyou and it’s not just the soulmatesthing. He’s fallen in love with you when he thought you wouldn’t want him.Of course he wants you,- a small smile curls her lips, -He isyoursoulmate, after all.
Alecblinks, andit comes to him slowly: -Oh.
-Yup,-Jace comments.
Alecstarts franticly searching his pockets for a pen: -I have to tellhim, I – -, but then he feels the skin on his arm tingle and heimmediately pulls up his sleeve.
Hisblood runs cold in his veins when he reads the one word on his skin.
Help
~
Heruns so fast the muscles in his legs start to ache even with therunes burning his skin, and he’s breathless when he reaches the smallalley he feels Magnus is in, Jace, Clary and Izzy a few steps behindhim, and his blood runs cold when he sees Magnus trying to hold backwhat looks like a few dozens of Demons with his magic, feels his ownskin burn where Magnus’ is torn.
Hejumps forward without thinking, Magnus’ magic letting him through, and he drives one of his arrows into the throat of a Demon beforeshooting it into another Demon’s calf,Jace right behind him to finish it with his sword, Izzy’s whipbringing down two more, and then Alec loses count.
Hekeeps as close to Magnus as he can, Demons coming from everywherearoundthem, one always ready to take the place of the one they kill, andAlec’s only driving thought as he ducks and lounges forward is Ineed to tell him, I need to tell him, I need to tell him.
It’sfast, too fast, Alec barely has time to breathe as he pushes andpushes and pushes, his sword feeling heavy in his arms, the smell of overused magicfilling the heavy air, but suddenly the Demons are parting, growlingand spitting, and a man walks between them, and Alec barely registershis presence before he’s raising his hand, black magic running fromhis fingers towards Magnus, where itshatters against a barrier with a deafening noise, and then it startsagain.
Aleckeeps glancing at Magnus, Demons dropping around him, and he’s tired,Aleccan tell he’s tired and he just needs to goto him,and –
Ablinding pain explodes in his side and Alec almost falls on hisknees, but it’s not him, it’s not him,he’s not hurt, which means –
Heturns towards Magnus, heart running so fast in his chest it hurts, and a raw scream leaves his lips when he sees him kneeling on theground, a hand pressed against his own side, the other Warlock on theground in front of him: -MAGNUS!
Ademon tries to attack him but Alec stabs it in the chest and runsforwards – he hadn’t even realised how far away from Magnus thefighting had gotten him – and he thinks nono no no, I need to tell you, you need to know –
Hefalls to his knees beside him, his sword hitting the asphalt as hecatches Magnus before he falls: -Magnus, Magnus, please, please–
Magnusblinks slowly at him; he smiles: -I knew you would come,- he says, but it sounds like it causes him pain to talk, and Alec shakes hishead as tears fall from his eyes: -Please, pleaseMagnusI was an idiot, I need – I need to tell you, please–
Magnusshushes him gently, his eyes almost closed: -Stupid Nephilim,- hemurmurs, but he sounds fond.
-Please,please,I love you, Magnus, Ilove you,-he says, and his voice breaks but it has to be worth something, itcan’t just be.
Magnuscloses his eyes: -I know,- he murmurs, -I was waiting for you tocatch up.
-No,no,no, no, no,- Alecbrushes his hair from his forehead but Magnus’ eyes stay closed andAlec doesn’t know if he’s breathing, he presses his forehead againstMagnus’ and everything inside him is quacking,-You need to be okay,- he whispers, a salty taste on his tongue ashis tears reach his lips, -Please, please–
Andhe thinks thiscan’t be useless, it can’t – this isn’t fair, the knowledge of it, deep in his bones, exploding in his chest as hejust pushesbecause–
Itcan’t be useless.
Andsuddenly he feels like every drop of energy is being sucked out ofhim and he sways on his knees, tightens his hold on Magnus’ shouldersand he blinks, trying to focus, and he sees Magnus’ magic pooling inhis wound, and he understands – it’s him, his energy.
Hepushes harder, heart beating slower, buthe doesn’t –
hecan’t –
stop.
~
Heblinks slowly, the light hitting his eyes brighter than he’d like.
Someonepunches him in the shoulder.
-Ow,-he protests, turns his head on the pillow he hadn’t realised he’slaying on, but what he sees takes his breath away.
-Magnus,-he whispers, relief flooding his chest, but Magnus glaresathim: -You stupidNephilim,-he says, flailing, -You could have – -
ButAlec doesn’t care, he doesn’t care about anything, he wraps his handaround Magnus’ wrist and pulls him down, interrupting himmid-sentence, pulls until he can bury his fingers in his hair, hislips in his throat.
-Ilove you,- he says, over and over, because now he can tell him and hedoesn’t care if Magnus will tell him to go to Hell, -I’m sorry I wasan idiot. I was – scared and immature and insanely jealous and itwon’t happen again and I love you. I’m sorry I hurt you, I’m so –
Butthen Magnus is kissing his lips, short and soft and gentle. -I know,-he says, his make-up smudged under his eyes as he chuckles, -And youwere a bit of an idiot.
Aweak chuckle tumbles out of Alec’s lips, leaving his eyes damp.
-But,-Magnus says, the tip of his nose against Alec’s, -You didalmostdie to save my life.
-Howcould I not,- Alec says, breathless as he looks into his eyes, -Youare my soulmate. And I’m in love with you.
Magnuscloses his eyes as he presses his forehead against Alec’s; hemurmurs: -As far as apologies go, this one is pretty damn decent.

Malec-Pocahontas AU
A Pocahontas/Shadowhunter's fusion
Some roles are swapped for this AU
Alec akes the role of Pocahontas
Magnus is John Smith
But the Downworlder's are the ones who were there first and the Clave came in to take over, kind of confusing but it works I swear lol this one is for you @stellecraft
“Help! Someone help!” Madzie cried out as she ran into the Downworlder’s camp, her face full of panic at what she just witnessed.
“Madzie, what’s wrong? Where’s Magnus?” Catarina caught the panicked child, trying to calm her.
“They took him! The Shadowhunter’s took him!” She cried out, fat tears dripping down her round cheeks as she tried to stop herself from hiccupping. Silence fell over the camp before it erupted in anger, however they all fell silent again when Camille took to the stage in the middle of their camp.
“I told you all that those savages couldn’t be trusted, Magnus tried to make friend with them and look where that got him! I say we recuse our High Warlock and show those Shadowhunter’s what we Downworlder’s are made of! At dusk we attack!” Camille’s words were strong and she was playing off everyone’s need to save Magnus to mold them for her own plans.
What can you expect
From filthy little heathens?
Here's what you get when the races are diverse
Their skin's a hellish red
They're only good when dead
They're vermin, as I said
And worse
They're savages! Savages!
The crowd chanted as Camille showed her fangs as she added to the chant that was going up.
Barely even human
Savages! Savages!
Drive them from our shore!
They're not like you and me
Which means they must be evil
We must sound the drums of war!
Camille urged the crowd on as they armed them selves in their own choice of weapons. The vampire let out a manic laugh as they all worked them selves into a mob mentality that Magnus had kept under wraps and tonight blood would finally spill.
They're savages! Savages!
Dirty shrieking devils!
Now we sound the drums of war!
Maryse sharpened her Seraph blade from her place in the centre of the Clave’s campsite; the other Shadowhunter’s were gearing up for war and the execution of the High Warlock they had chained in a nearby tent.
This is what we feared
The warlock is a demon
The only thing they feel at all is greed
Beneath that human hide
There's emptiness inside
Maryse’s words were strong and were doing what they were meant to do; she would not let that Warlock corrupt her son any further. Alec would see that he made a mistake and would repent.
I wonder if they even bleed
They're savages! Savages!
Barely even human
Savages! Savages!
The gathered Shadowhunter’s chanted as they armed them selves or activated their runes in preparation for war.
Killers at the core
They're different from us
Which means they can't be trusted
We must sound the drums of war
Maryse kept going; feeding the crowd more hateful words and she raised her blade in defiance and the gathered crowd following her lead as they belted out the words.
They're savages! Savages!
First we deal with this one
Then we sound the drums of war!!
The Downworlder’s left their camp and headed north where Madzie said the Clave took Magnus.
Savages! Savages!
Camille cackled as she led the charge of angry Downworlder’s to a battle that would end in nothing but blood.
Savages! Savages!
Savages! Savages!
Barely even human!
Now we sound the drums of war!
Camille hissed, as the Downworlder’s got closer and closer to where the Warlock’s had tracked Magnus.
This will be the night... (Let's go men!) Maryse let out a breath before she turned to the men standing guard of Magnus Bane.
This will be the evening... (Bring out the prisoner)
Magnus struggled against the runed cuffs on his wrists and the large metal collar that was clamped tightly around his neck; the Shadowhunter’s were dragging him. His eyes darted around looking for Alexander, his heart beating almost out of his chest when he didn’t see Alexander and he prayed that Maryse didn’t do anything to his love.
We will see them dying in the dust I don't know what I can do Still, I know I've got to try.
Alec came to a stop chest heaving as he stopped to give the others a break. Izzy, Jace and Clary were panting behind him as they tried to keep pace with the worried Shadowhunter. Now we make 'em pay.
Camille grinned when the Downworlder’s exited a line of trees just below a cliff that was jutting out in the pale moonlight. Angel, help my feet to fly. Alec activated his Speed rune knowing the other three were doing the same and they took off again. Now without a warning... The Shadowhunters kept marching behind Maryse, Magnus struggling all the way causing his guards to basically drag him. Mountain, help my heart be great. Alec leapt across a gap between two rock formations, hearing his siblings and Clary making the same jump but with more comments, he focused on moving faster. Now we leave 'em blood and bone and rust. The Shadowhunter’s and Downworlder’s marched towards each other almost in sync without knowing it. Angels of the earth and sky... Alec prayed under his breath as he drew another rune to move faster.
It's them or us. Please don't let it be to late... Alec squeezed his eyes closed as he saw familiar sights come into view. They're just a bunch of Filthy, stinking Savages! Savages! Demons! Devils! Kill them! Camille cried loudly, getting an answering roar in return. Savages! Savages! What are we waiting for? Camille pointed at the approaching Shadowhunter’s. Destroy their evil race Until there's not a trace left How loud are the drums of war? Alec could see the cliff jutting out and the two sides facing off against each other, both sides looking for blood. We will sound the drums of war (Savages! Savages!) Now, we sound the drums of war (Savages! Savages!) Now we see what comes Of trying to be chums. Camille sneered, she hated he idea of trying to make peace and now she had her war. Now we sound the drums... Of... War! Of course it means the drums... Of... War! Is the death of all I love Carried in the drumming of war? Alec pushed his way through the gathered Shadowhunters to see Magnus had been tossed down on a rock near the end of the cliff, his mother standing over him with her Seraph blade held high.
“NO!” Alec threw himself over Magnus before his mother could bring down her blade. Maryse froze up and stared down at her eldest who was covering the Warlock with his own body, chest heaving as the speed rune wore off.
“If you kill him you’ll have to kill me too Mother!” Alec shouted making sure both sides of the almost battlefield heard him.
“Why would you throw everything away for this… This Downworlder?” Maryse snapped, anger in her voice and her grip on her blade still tight.
“I love him Mother!” Alec announced and Magnus shuddered under Alec’s body as he realized his feelings were returned. Maryse staggered back as her eyes widened in shock. Confused noises came from both sides as they all looked at the two men who were throwing everything away for each other.
“Look around you Mother! This is exactly what Valentine started all those years ago! This is the path you set us on! Magnus is the path I choose and if you choose to go to war, to finish what Valentine started then you will have to kill me first.” Alec tightened his hold on Magnus, keeping him down and protected in case Maryse decided to attack. Alec closed his eyes and rested his face against Magnus dark hair and inhaled his love’s scent hopefully not for the last time.
“Alec, my son… I can not kill you, but if you choose to throw your luck in with this… Warlock then you are no longer a Lightwood.” Maryse snapped as she sheathed her blade, Magnus made a wounded noise.
“So be it, if that stops a war and saves Magnus’ life then I will happily be disowned.” Alec agreed and Maryse made a noise in the back of her throat as she spun away from Magnus and Alec to face the row of Shadowhunter’s who had all lowered their weapons.
“We will not go to war today and we will give Alexander No name and his Warlock a single day to leave our territory.” Maryse announced even as she strode out off, flanked by her own guards.
“Magnus, oh baby are you alright?” Alec turned his attention to Magnus, helping him sit up and he worked his stele over the cuff and collar. Magnus tugged his Alexander into his arms and planted a kiss on his lover’s lips.
“I love you so much Alexander, so much.” Magnus said between kisses before hugging him so close their bodies almost melded together.
