The Doulton Fountain at Glasgow Green, at 46 feet high and 70 feet across at its base, is the largest terracotta fountain in the world. Built by the Royal Doulton company, it features a statue of Queen Victoria surrounded by four life-size statues of water-carriers representing Australasia, Canada, India and South Africa. In the 1960's, the fountain was allowed to fall into a state of disrepair, and the water supply was turned off. A £2,000,000 programme was started in 2002 to restore the fountain to it's original condition. In 2005, the fully refurbished fountain was placed in it's new location, in front of the People's Palace.
