Bridget and Chad are shining examples of overcompensating in your parenting, Ella didn’t want her kids to feel unappreciated or like their kindness wasn’t a gift and so rewarded them, Chad then evidently became spoiled and a mama’s boy charicature who thinks the world revolves around him and everyone loves him as much as his parents do. And Chloe is the opposite where she expects a certain standard from everyone, upon a 2 second encounter with Red she already decided she was cruel and evil because not everyone is super kind at face value.

I love noticing little things in films.

And here's an interesting thing I noticed yesterday in "Descendants 2." Even though Mal was the only one who felt like an outsider in Auradon, she wasn't the only one who changed after traveling to the Isle! Carlos finally found the courage to invite Jane, and Jay was even more impressed with Lonnie's skills, so he found a way for her to join the team. As for Evie... She reassured Doug that she only needed him and no one else.

Why I Love Descendants

It’s such an amazing franchise. The world is so interesting and expansive. Conflicts are deep and intense. It isn’t all black and white. The characters are so three-dimensional and have personalities, dreams, and destinies all their own. The friendship between them all is so palpable, I can feel the love. The themes explored are rich and give powerful messages. At its heart, this story is about four kids who come from a broken place, are broken themselves, and learn to be better and rise up to the point they’re able to help other kids like them. That is such a beautiful and important message and I hope it’s analogous to my own life. 

The ships are incredible and full of love. Jarlos is so sweet, they adore one another, and I love that the two shy, mousy characters found comfort in each other. Devie is amazing, Doug loves Evie so much and will follow her wherever she goes. Evie loves him in return and will stay by his side, no matter what. And Bal is so, so extraordinary. Such a different pair, but they are perfect for each other. They’ve had ups and downs but they made it through, and now they’ll live happily together, forever. 

I love the Core Four for their chosen family (what I call found family, seems like a more accurate term), their friendships, and their development. They’re all so amazing in their own ways, and even better togethier. 

(Including Ben cause I want to) Ben growing into such a wonderful king, even if he struggles sometimes. He’s so kind to everyone and wants everyone to be the best they can be. He found is own way to balance being king and being himself. I think we should all strive to be more like him. 

Jay was a thief who only cared about himself and what he could get. He learned how a team worked and became someone who is very thoughtful of his friends.

Carlos was constantly bullied and was his mother’s slave. He grew more confident, and learned to stand up for himself. He knows who his friends are and will stand by them through anything. 

Evie was taught to only care about her appearance, that that was the only part of her that had value. But she learned the things she did mattered more and she doesn’t need a prince to make her happy. She has her friends, her work, her boyfriend, her wonderful home, and helping the Isle kids. She’s so compassionate, and is on her way to big things and I hope she gets there. 

And Mal. The one who was supposed to be the evilest of them all, but ended up finding love and not wanting to let go. Having wrapped her whole identity around being bad, she definitely struggled to figure out how to be good. But with Ben and her friends’s help, she was able to learn and allow herself what she wanted. I love that she became queen through good instead of evil, and did it for love, not power. I know she’s going to do great things, and I love her. 

Descendants is my favorite franchise. It’s the first one I’ve really fallen in love with. I kinda just wanted to write a little thing attempting to express my feelings and how I see (some of) the characters (and let me add that I don’t hate/dislike any of the characters). Descendants is super important to me and I hope I love it like this for a long time 💜

Ben: *a little delirious* You’re really pretty.

Mal: I’ll accept the compliment better when you’re not delirious from massive blood loss.

Ben: Are you a fairy?

Doug: We should probably start heading back if we want to make your curfew. I don’t know about you, but I’d rather not have my ass kicked by a ten-year-old.

Evie: Are you seriously more afraid of Henry than my mother?

Doug: Your mom is bound by the court of public opinion. If she beats up a defenseless nerd, she puts the next election in jeopardy. Your brother’s birth mom is the sheriff. She’d probably let him do anything.

Evie: Oh, god. Please don’t say that in front of my mom.

Charming: King George is a fool if he sent children after me!

Jay: Rude.

Regina: *to Mal* Isn’t fire your specialty? Why are you letting your boy-toy handle this?

Evie: Mom!

Ben: I’m not sure how to feel about that.

Henry: You’ll find another way.

Doug: Exactly. We had hundreds of books back in the Enchanted Forest. Maybe some of them came over.

Ben: I tried. The library’s locked up tight.

Chad: Guys, I think Carlos is stuck in a tree.

Henry: Did you try calling her?

Doug: I called her 23 times. Each call went straight to voicemail.

Robin: Why 23 times?

Doug: Prime numbers calm me down when I’m nervous.

Henry: It's a Doug thing.

Jay: I’ll give you 20 gold pieces if you transform and fly straight at the barrier around the castle.

Mal: Do you have 20 gold pieces?

Jay: I can get 20 gold pieces.

Mal: I’ll think about it.

Robin: How can you be so certain that I haven’t completely ruined everything?

Henry: Because you love her. And she loves you. She’s just also had her heart broken before.

Evie: Which means it will take her some time to sort her feelings out. It’ll probably take a month, two months tops.

Robin: That still seems like a long time.

Doug: Considering she didn’t get over her last heartbreak until after the first curse broke and Dr. Whale brought her last boyfriend back from the dead, I’d say you’re about 44 years ahead of schedule.

Grumpy: Where is he goin’? Dwarves travel as a unit.

Doc: Nerdy never liked hanging out with us.

Sneezy: He has his…achoo…he has his own friends.

I finally finished transfering the collection over!! Such a relief, let me tell you

I started reading "Return to the Isle of the Lost"...

1. Now the friendship of the four looks natural. But not against the background of the previous book, but rather against the background of the first film.

2. I love the description of Mel's feelings for Ben in the first chapter. It's very sweet and in keeping with her style.

3. The plot of the book begins with a rather interesting twist.

4. There're still those who don't like VK, and this is realistic.

5. Looking back at Ben's attitude towards magic in this book, it makes sense for him to react to Mal's witchcraft in the second film.

6. It was interesting to learn about social networks in their world... But it's a pity that they weren't in the films.

7. Ben is beautifully written. It's a combination of responsibility and the desire for life of an ordinary boy in love. Worthy, really.

8. The scene of Carlos's short dance with Jane was beautiful. They're so precious.

9. Chad's place of residence is mentioned. Hypothetically, one could imagine that Charmington would later be renamed Cinderellaburg... But it's unlikely.

10. I really liked the joke about Doug and Evie kissing.

11. The ending was unexpected but logical. In fact, I liked this book much more than the first one.
