someone laid a huge egg in the hen house this morning
it's far bigger than any chicken or duck egg i've seen and about the same size that the goose laid during her first batch
i can squeeze my hands into large gloves but xl fit better:

Double yolker from this morning!
And then the absolutely massive difference lighting can make when trying to photograph these damn eggs. First photo outside but in shade with a dark background, second photo outside but in full sun against white.
Neither one looks like the eggs actually look in person. They're closer to the in-shade photo though.

sometimes you crack the egg of the day and it’s a double yolker
EXPLANATION: the “egg” is a metaphor for your thoughts which you experience each day anew, and on some days they are a “double yolker” in that they have twice the “yolk” as they normally do. the yolk is destiel.

🍪 favorite baked goods?
🕯favorite candle scent?
Pumpkin Pie, Bear Claws, and Strudel. I have to be careful when I'm in the bakery section of the grocery. I have no willpower and will buy a lot of these pastries...
Vanilla and Pumpkin Spice (I know it's an overrated scent, but it's got a lot of nostalgia. Reminds me of when I was a kid and mom would bake during the holidays, and she made a *lot* of pumpkin pie. It's one of the reasons autumn and winter are my fav times of year).
Our pumpkin pie is an alteration of the one on the Libby can (we always make 2 pies, based from the 29 oz can).
We add another half can to the recipe (so approx another 15 oz; use a big can and a reg can if you don't use the leftover pumpkin for stuff like smoothies).
Cut the sugar down to 3/4 or 1 cup; double spices *except* cloves (I usually mix the spices together first, then they go in with the eggs while I'm beating them, to cut down on clumping and settling...dunno if it actually helps).
Add some more egg and egg yolk (still working on the amounts here, had a bunch of jumbo eggs that were nearly all double yolkers one day (so 5 eggs, with nearly 9 yolks), and ended up with the *perfect* consistency. But now we can't *find* the jumbo eggs in store, and the "xl" ones are so inconsistent in sizing the last pie ended up sad...)
Use larger pie pans if you got 'em, or make a tiny 3rd pie, bc you're gonna be juuuust a bit over the original volume.
#Our Pumpkin Pie recipe under cut#it's just *mwah*#use your *best* flaky pie crust#it's so much *better* than the syrupy sweet ones you end up from stores or the basic can-recipe#you can taste the pumpkin and it doesn't overwhelm you with the sugar

Are you sure the egg is big and isn't that your hands are small, Miss Jenni?? dat just a normal egg
My hands are a bit smaller, bully, but if you look at it with the others it's a large egg. It's normal, not a fucked up double-yolker or anything. But the tan ones are mediums.
Normal eggs come in sizes. All size eggs are beautiful 😤
Don't bodyshame 😤

normal "large" egg (darker brown) provided for scale, i only cooked the double-yolker - it weighed 102g, almost twice as much as a "large" grade egg

Gathered today's pullet eggs (those Sapphire Gems are hitting the ground running with an egg each everyday!):
Well lookee here. The normal pullet egg is on the right (it's medium egg sized). The one on the left is larger than a jumbo, poor girl.
Well let's open it up and see:
Yep, double yolker! Extra breakfast this morning!

initially was v curious when one of the hens 🐓 laid this big ass egg 🥚 (pictured on the left) last week. albeit curious 🧐 i was not intending to make a 3 egg 🍳 scramble this morning. but here we are… when i cracked open the bigg ass egg, not one ☝🏾 but two ✌🏾 yolk’s plopped out. naturally i asked google “why does my egg have two yolks?” and this is what google had to say: What are the odds of getting a double yolk? Without any outside interference, the odds of getting a double-yolker are about one in every thousand eggs. Why do double yolks happen? Double-yolk eggs are a byproduct of rapid ovulation. That means two yolks are released in quick succession into a hen's oviduct (aka fallopian tube) and end up in the same shell. Typically, yolks are released about an hour apart, but hormonal changes or a hyperactive ovary will cause double releases. Who lays double-yolkers? Usually, young hens are responsible for double-yolkers, but heavier breeds like the Buff Orpington are also known to produce double-yolk eggs more regularly than other breeds. Additionally, hens that experience an abrupt, drastic increase in hours of light exposure are more prone to laying eggs with two yolks. 🌈 the mo you know 🌈 #zafawines #counterspell #wineisfarming #vermont #layinghens #doulbleyolk #oneinathousand #themoyouknow (at ZAFA Wines) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cn7Nba0LZvi/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
