I have very limited knowledge of St Patrick's Day, as an Australian with no Irish family - so I will leave any discussion of the significance of the occasion to those who know better. However, let's look at some Barbies.
As a part of the Holiday Hostess series (of course) Mattel released a St Patrick's Day themed Barbie, called "Shamrock Celebration".
Shamrocks do in fact feature very heavily in her garment -on her plaid skirt and around her neck, as well as in the buckle of her hat. Just in case the design was too subtle, she has "Happy St Patrick's Day" written on her apron.
Her accessory is a pot of gold, which I suppose is a little more Barbie-friendly than, say, a pint of Guinness.
This is not, of course, the only Barbie to depict Ireland or Irish culture. As part of the Dolls of the World line, for example, there were a number of dolls - Irish Barbie, Princess of Ireland Barbie and Irish Dance Barbie.
It is worth noting, of course, that Festivals of the World Irish Dance Barbie does not depict St Patrick's Day - she depicts a step-dancer at a Feis.
The Legends of Ireland series depict myths and legends of Irish culture, though to be honest I don't know how accurate any of these are. I do know that they are beautiful.
There were a number in the collection, ranging from Silver Label to Platinum Label.
That fell away quickly as Lord Blackwood’s daughter shrieked. “What? What the fuck are you doing, petting a coyote?”
Aspestos scoffed. “It’s not a coyote, it's my dog. Her name is Lena.”
Ariadne stared at them as if they had grown a second head. “I beg your pardon?”
Aspestos spoke slowly, bewildered by her incredulity. “She is harmless. She is a good dog.” They ruffled Lena’s head. “Aren’t you, baby? Yes, you are such a good girl!”
Ariadne looked at them like they were stupid. “Are you stupid?”
Aspestos ignored her. They continued showering their “dog” with affection instead. They had met Lena two years ago when she had saved their life in a mission given to them by their previous employer. It was partly because of that occurrence that they left the Eldest Crones: drowning and then being dragged by a dog was not a pleasant experience. Nonetheless, they acquired a new friend, and an intelligent one, at that. Lena would come and go at times, seeming to be able to sense when Aspestos was in danger. They loved her to bits. She was the best dog anyone could ask for. They heard Ariadne groan in the background and put her face in her hands. “I can’t believe I’m stuck with an idiot. Oh my gods, what did I do to deserve this?”
“Kill someone?” Aspestos chirped in lightly.
Ariadne shot them a spiteful look. “At least, I can tell the difference between a coyote and a dog, you buffoon.” She shot back.
“Lena is a smart dog.” Ariadne snorted and muttered something that sounded like ‘at least one of you is’ and Aspestos elected to ignore it. They were very good at ignoring rude comments from entitled brats: call it their talent.
“She could lead us to another village. One that, I hope, you won’t turn into ashes.”
What's DOTW? I see it in your tags as "DOTW inspo" so I was curious.
DOTW is a collab project that @luci-on-the-moon and I have been working on off and on for a couple years, but it's not ready to be pulished or anything yet.
Basically, it's called Devil of the West (DOTW) and is a supernatural western. :) It's Bard/Agni and Sebawolf, with some Underthello and Sebataker maybe.
Bard and Agni are a couple who run a community for magical beings. It's a kind of refuge since humans have been hunting down and killing/kidnapping magical creatures for decades and many are on the brink of extinction.
In this world there are many kinds of magical creatures, including mages, werewolves, vampires, and fae, as well race of empaths called healers (Agni is one of these).
Sebastian is a powerful mage, one of the few purebreeds left (many think they're a myth) and is targeted by the cult leader who leads the humans (Undertaker) and is nearly killed. Wolfram finds him and brings him to Agni for help, and the story is basically about Wolf and Sebastian's relationship amidst the bigger story of trying to save him and also defeat the humans.
I can't talk too much about it at this stage, but maybe it may see the light of day in 2024.
