Very tearful when I opened this today. I write fan fiction with no delusions of being anything more than a mediocre writer. And, actually, I’m kind of OK with that. I try to improve all the time, obviously, but I’m someone who’s made peace with being middle of the road. I’ll never top any lists, but the process makes me happy, and I think that’s enough.

So when someone contacts me to let me know they’ve enjoyed one of my stories, obviously I’m thrilled. It bringing joy to me is one thing, but for it to create a bit of joy for someone else is much nicer. Positive feedback, given without any expectation of anything in return, is a gift; it’s kind and it’s heartwarming and there’s not enough kind and heartwarming in the world.

Imagine how proud and grateful I feel that the brilliant, not *at all* mediocre @dotsaremycomfortzone chose to print and bind a copy of my God’s Own Country AU, ‘Safe’. I’m still in disbelief that she thought it was good enough to be worth bothering her intricate, exquisite talent with, but being able to look at it and touch it makes me feel good about the sheer amount of hard work and vulnerability I put into that story. It may be an infinitesimally small achievement compared to many others out there, but holding this beautiful little book, it feels massive to me, like something I still can’t quite believe I’m capable of doing, even in a flawed way.

This arrived about an hour ago and it’s already one of my most precious treasures. It’s something I can pull out and gaze at when my confidence as a writer is a tripping hazard in hell (often!). It is a beautiful thing, beautifully done, and means an enormous amount to me.

Stiles recoils from the torrent of words like he’s been physically slapped. “Go ahead, Derek,” he says lowly. “Say it.”

Derek snaps his mouth shut, but his face still radiates anger, not guilt.

“What were you going to say, huh? That I’m the loser who stayed behind in Beacon Hills? That I’m just some lowly deputy who's working for my dad? A failure who’s still living in his childhood home?"

"You're just jealous of—"

"Ha! You have your head shoved so far up your ass—you're so enamored of your new life—that you actually think I’m jealous of what you have. But you know what? I’m not jealous of you. I pity you. That’s right,” Stiles adds as Derek snorts, “I pity you because you can’t even see how fucked up things are.”

“Or you’re finally seeing who I really am,” Derek says grimly.

Stiles refuses—refuses—to let Derek see him cry. He tips his head up to the sky; feels the pinprick of tears sting his eyes in the bitter cold as he tries to keep them from falling. “You know, I should have realized things would never be normal again between us after that stupid kiss.”

This was such a beautiful and amazing treasure to receive and the perfect way to cap off an amazing collaborative journey. @dotsaremycomfortzone 's thought to detail was incredible. Such a beautiful and generous gift, I'm speechless.

I bound 3 copies of Bon Appétit (written as part of @twsterekbigbang) for the lovely @nerdherderette & @drylime, art by yours truly. It’s been a blast! This was the first time I tried my hand at ordering pre-laminated A3 prints for the covers (some trial-and-error involved) and colouring/”gilding” the edges. I didn’t take the time to properly photograph the three of them together but overall I’m satisfied.

It took me a little while to finally get to printing an sewing, and then I decided I wanted to paint the faux leather instead of just hot foiling it.

The end pages are by (can’t find who made the first art piece anymore) & nilhilstatari.

Hope it’s a bit like you expected and again, from the bottom of my heart, thank you for writing it!

So this made me ugly cry this morning. The wonderfully talented @dotsaremycomfortzone has bound ‘Safe’, my God’s Own Country AU, into a beautiful, beautiful little book. I can’t tell you how special this is. Thank you so, so much!

At sixteen, Derek was just shy of six feet tall, and had a six-pack without flexing and biceps that looked twice the size of Stiles’ thighs. Stiles wouldn’t be surprised if Derek could bat his long lashes and get just about any girl (or guy) to go out with him, because he—

Because he what? Stiles looked up, only to see gorgeous, blonde Kate Argent—head cheerleader, Senior Class President, shoo-in for this year's Homecoming and Prom Queen, and Beacon Hills’ own Regina George—flashing Derek a thousand-watt smile.

“War zone” is the first word that comes to mind — every inch of their kitchen is covered in something. Flour on the counters. Streaks of egg whites running down the front of the sink. Smears of butter on the refrigerator handle. Something bubbly and greenon the oven door. And even more smells than when he first walked in — orange zest, mint, something savory like gravy, and something sickly sweet like marshmallows. 

And sitting on the floor, in the eye of the hurricane, is Stiles, looking very messy and very upset.

The Greek god’s smile is somehow the most stunning part about him. “Do you know which way Allison Argent’s room is? I think I walked around the school three times now and I still can’t find it.”

“Oh, you’re her sub!” He sticks out a hand, the stack now precariously balancing in the other. “I’m Stiles, her brightest and most handsome colleague.”

“Mr. Hale— Derek. Nice to meet you.” Derek’s hand is warm and strong, and Stiles has an embarrassing flash of wanting that hand gripping some other parts of his body. 

He shakes his head and clears his throat. “Great, let me— I’m just gonna drop these off, and then I’ll show you how to get to her room. There’s a whole spiel too, even though she’s probably already given it to you, but I promised I’d run through it again in case she forgot anything, and who am I to break a promise to a pregnant woman?”

(okay that last one.... might not be underrated by your metrics but by MINE wherein I think everyone and their mother should be reading this fic and living for it, it is. It reminds me of growing up in a Mexican family and nothing will make me stop loving it)

“I—” Derek hesitates, his jaw tight. “You called him ‘Stiles’,” he says to Lydia, accusation bleeding through his words. “Is Mieczysław Stilinski a relative?”

“I can answer perfectly well, and no, I’m Mieczysław,” Stiles says, taking a step forward. He has his arms folded across his chest, and by the way the cuff of his hoodie is riding up, Derek can see that Stiles’ forearms are not only well-defined but decorated in tattoos. “Stiles is my nickname, and it’s not that I think I’m the hottest shit—although I’m pretty fucking exceptional at what I do—but for one, our industry’s small, and two, not only do we work in the same city, our restaurants are literally blocks apart. But I guess you live in your little bubble, so whatever.” Stiles has this hurt and angry look on his face that makes Derek think this is hardly whatever. But before he can apologize, Stiles barrels on. “Anyway, I don’t need to rely on gimmicks or nepotism to make a name for myself, so you can stop that pretentious, entitled line of thinking right now.”

“Oh, shit,” Jackson and Lydia say in the same breath.

Derek couldn’t agree with them more.

We’re going for it, guys!

✨✨ Sterek Big Bang 2021 is happening! ✨✨

After a successful interest check, it was clear that the Sterek Big Bang had to happen, as someone said “2021 needs this kind of joy” so we’re going to bring it 🎉

We decided to go for the big side of Big Bang for this round and do a 20k minimum word count. 

For everyone who answered 10 or 15k in the interest check, please do still consider joining because you’ll have months to write your fic! We’re really going into this on a relaxed schedule to make it a stress free environment. And we’re definitely keeping the mini bang idea in our little suggestion box for future adventures. 🤞

The event schedule will be posted next week, on Saturday February 20th 2021!!

Authors : Please, take that time to think about the fic you will want to write so you can sign up with a clear idea of what you’re going for. Make sure you at least have your vibe ready, it doesn’t have to be a detailed plot, but it should be developed enough to give artists an idea of the aesthetics, tropes, genres, rating, so they’ll want to claim you.  Don’t worry, you’ll still have a few more days before sign-ups officially open and a few weeks before they close!
