Deadlock is a chimera of all of Valve's best game design I can't get over it

The game is pretty much everything about Dota 2 format but adapted as a third person shooter. SO much changes to the format though to make it feel much faster and difficult in its own way

TF2 MvM item / upgrade management and menu

TF2's general style and presentation, mixed with a bit of Dota 2's darker/magic based aesthetic

Verticality of TF2 (Smite did not have this), punishing gunplay and tight utility usage of CS2

Pretty much everything about Dota 2 is in this game but adapted for third person shooters

Half Life/Portal 2's world building, voice acting and character performance

less hectic. I don't wanna show my hide here but my main fandom before HBOWar is Dota 2 Esport. Oh boi. It was a toxic cesspool of gamerdom™️I'm glad I left it behind.

I think while there is some obvious flaw with TP, for instance its pacing issue. But another lesser problem it has is how unbalance Basilone's storyline is. Speilberg and Hank really can't make these war show without some mythical hero-ism. No offense to the real life Basilone who I know is a really cool dude, but this storyline imo lacks the depth that Leckie's and Sledge's have.

Deadlock and the Multiverse of Mechanics

"Hey, do you want to try Deadlock? Check your email, I just sent you an invite."

That was about two weeks ago, and those first few games felt quite stereotypical to the MOBA genre: Overwhelming.

Big map! Lots of stuff on screen! A variety of characters!

And so I picked a random character (Dynamo) and sat in a bot game with my friend and messed around. Those first two games felt both fast and extremely slow at the same time. They probably ended in 20 minutes or less, but I spent most of my time just observing stuff.

"Oh, there's little alleyways that you can't see into, built into the lanes." "Oh, you can shoot the souls that come out of enemies and they give you more money." "Oh you can deny enemies their souls if you shoot them first." "There's a shop to buy items? And underground areas with a "secret shop"? Teleporters? Jungle creeps?!" "YOU CAN AIR DASH IN THIS GAME?!"

Revelations fell one after the other, and I was suitably impressed. And then I didn't play it for 3 days. There was nothing wrong with the game of course, but you have to let things marinate sometimes. A mistake I often see from players in competitive games is the inability to take a break. I often take breaks from pvp games. It lets you breathe.

And so I sat down again after 3 days of marination, and went to their training mode. And when I say this feels like the multiverse of mechanics, I mean it: Deadlock is an amalgamation of mechanics that stem from Dota2, Team Fortress 2, League of Legends, and Gunz the Duel.

And I was severely lacking in two areas: The aiming, and the movement. When you first play Deadlock, it feels clunky. Every character has bars of stamina, and you use them to double jump, dash, ground dash. But what really opened my third eye was looking at the reticle during a dash: It glowed blue. Oho. That means something. And so I start messing around and lo and behold: You can spend more stamina to combine movement mechanics. You can dash and jump, you can dash, jump, and air dash. You can dash and slide. Oh boy, we are COOKING now.

This game, for being an invite only alpha test, feels incredibly crispy. The map invites you to mess around with its movement, because unlike league or dota there is verticality. I can climb buildings, I can dive down and attack enemies. There are two (technically 3) characters that can temporarily fly. Every revelation of this game's mechanics told me where Valve had gotten their ideas. And best of all, I could see in my teammates and opponents where their expertise in the game came from. Good aim, positioning and movement? Probably Overwatch, or Apex. Smart laning and roaming, knowing when to leave lane to buy items? Yeah, you probably play dota or league. If you've played ANY popular pvp game within the last 10 years, you'll find a home in Deadlock.

What I find the most pleasing about Deadlock however, is their insistence on a specific aesthetic: Neo-noir. This game sits squarely in the 1920s/30s americana, with hints of sci fi and supernatural throughout its characters. Tall buildings with ads adorning the sides. But yet one of the characters (Vindicta) is basically a witch with a sniper rifle. The architecture screams dark art deco, but yet 2 (possibly three?) of the characters are clearly robots. Where league and dota tend towards both high and low fantasy, with shakes of steampunky tech throughout, for Valve to choose dark deco neo noir feels like such a beautiful risk.

Isn't another issue with Live Service Games the fact that a game that wants you to play it consistently bumps up against other games that have the same need in a slightly different way than "one and done" experiences or even unchanging multiplayer games? Sort of how the vast majority of MMOs cannot compete with WoW, and so many tried and failed to dethrone DOTA and LoL? In contrast, successful visual novel games seem to lift up other visual novel games, but that seems less true for Live Service.

You may be making a very common mistake here - the goal for a given game isn't necessarily to dethrone the genre leader. The goal for most live service games is to attract a sufficiently-large audience so as to sustain continued development costs and earn a reasonable profit. This is why, despite the vast majority of MMOGs not dethroning WoW, games like FF14, Runescape, Path of Exile, Warframe, Lost Ark, ESO, Guild Wars 2, EVE Online, SWTOR, ROBLOX, Black Desert Online, and New World are still continuing to sustain themselves. Sure, League might be the biggest MOBA out there, but there's still DOTA 2, Smite, Arena of Valor, and Pokemon Unite. Setting the bar for success at utter dominance of a genre isn't really feasible. What most live service games aim for isn't unconditional victory, it's sustainable profitability. That's a lot more reasonable as success criteria.

The reason live service games are so attractive is because they are more likely to be sustainable. It costs a lot more resources to develop and build the first bunch of game systems and content than it does the post-launch systems and content. The reason for this is because we don't know exactly what works and what doesn't the first time around, so we have to do a lot of experimentation, tool building, and make a lot of adjustments as we figure out what it is we're doing. Once we have the tools and systems built and earned enough experience using those tools and systems, it's a lot easier and cheaper to create more content with those tools and systems than it is to dump all of those systems and tools to start over fresh on a new game. Some genres lend themselves more to keeping the same tools and features for each game, but most players expect new games to have more new features, new systems, and new content than expanding an existing game. The expectations are lower for an existing game.

You're right in that live service games tend not to share audiences as well as other games. This is because most players have a finite amount of time and attention to play. This is why live service games are often called lifestyle games - it's just a game that their audiences play all the time. You're also right in that live service games don't work for every kind of game. It's just important to note that live service games are extremely attractive to publishers because a successful live service game is worth much, much more than a successful single-sale game. The successful single sale game nets a spike in revenue and the desperate hope that the next game the team builds will do as well or better. A successful live service game means reliable and sustained income for at least a year (possibly longer) after launch. That kind of reliable revenue stream is extremely attractive to businesses and investors.

Title: Play Your Role

"Play Your Role" 😁, three simple words are suited for online games/video games, specifically Action Role-Playing, First and Second Person Shooter and MOBAs (e.g. League of Legends, DOTA 2). That's all the gaming genre I think for a playing role - but its not just for video games/games suited ☝️🎮🖱️, but also for occupations in the real world 💼🌐; you know all kinds of real careers like a store clerk, a janitor, call center agent, teacher, and some tough jobs as well like police officer, construction worker and among others. 🙂

Take my throwback artwork as an example, when Cude 🐰🤖 volunteered a fire fighter / rescuerer from a firing blazing inside the building site and now he's extinguished using a special hydrant tool from the fire department attached to his right armor forehand. Which is rad. 😁🤖🧑‍🚒

Minecraft, Pigstep… Lena Rain again? Did you ever play minecraft on your phones on LAN in school? It was a great time, we showed each other buildings, farmed together, sometimes skipped school to do something in minecraft….. But why this particular soundtrack, since those versions didn't have it… I really like C418's music and I respect his work, but among artists in the genre of video game soundtracks, Lena Raine is my favorite. Dying Light, first scary game that I met on a friend's computer, soundtrack from menu was in my head for a long time. And what a moment, get out from the shelter at night, knowing about the hunters was very unpleasant. We moved very carefully, tried to avoid any danger, and then everything turned into stealth…. A city plagued by contagion, with no big buildings, a city that not going to get any help…. TheFatRat, and music pack from *sigh* Dota 2... Was chosen because he's my favorite musician, and it's his only work for video games…. Sad choice of course, and the best music pack in the game? I have a negative attitude towards competitive games, but Christian's work makes me happy and I've been waiting for every piece of his art since 2021. Katana Zero - The game features many musicians giving many different emotions, and only the Designer, Programmer, Scriptwriter in one person gave the best and most dramatic soundtrack in the whole game, wonderfully constructed scene, selected written soundtrack. I cried for the first time from a video game at that very moment. I will definitely wait for the DLC, but for now all that's left to play is fan works that try but fail to reach the level of the original.

((Note: Their will be grammar mistakes and errors in this drabble as others have this warning. But like I state before, this is written for fun. So I hope you like it and my friend too. Enjoy))

"I can do this..I can do this." Officer Rust knight, one of the officers from the DBT police headquarters remembering the thought of what his leader said. He was given the mission to watch over one of the prisoners here tonight and he was doing this as a solo mission.

True, he was used to catch criminals, villains, bad guys, even the crazy ones but this was a new mission for him. He knew his partner Shdwkyz or Sai for short was in another building from here but they still catch up from time to time when being on missions like this.

"Though why tonight? I was really hoping for a day off but I guess not." he mutters but again, he didn't mind it. All he did was get to the end of the hall but saw the room where his prisoner assigned to him would be.

'I can do this. Just have to watch whoever this is and leave later on. It will be fine.' he keeps thinking this to himself before taking a deep breath and opens the door heading inside. When he did, the door locked showing he was on the clock. The room was not too bad and it looked like any other normal office. Maybe it was something else. Right now, he was looking around to see the usual:

A TV, a desk, an arm chair with a couch. A table with some books and documents. A window to the outside. Even some other door leading to the right? He blinks unsure about that before he looks noticing a note on the desk.

"......." He walks over to it being curious but saw it was assigned to him? Picking it up, he unfolds it to read.

Dear Rust,

It's me Ink. I know this is sudden but we got word that some of us are being moved to new locations all over for new police work. They sent you there due to the new prisoner that arrived hours before you do. Even so, this is still sorta boring but Hellmare suggested we give it a shot. For now, just do your best in it. I know you can. The others wish you luck for your job tonight but if you ever need anything give us a call and we'll come to help you out.

Yeah, that was his Chief officer alright but he wonders of the others. He knew some of them were busy with their own stations but it was good to know they were safe. However, he blinks seeing a P.S.

P.S: By the way, their is a folder on the desk speaking of the other you are watching over with the keys. Be sure you learn what you can. I don't know. I'm being sent over to a prison watching over 6 guys I think. Oh well! Lol See ya!

"Wait..Six guys?!" he said in shock but he sweatdrops not wanting to question it. He just hopes she will be okay. Now he's wondering of his other teammates. Well, he'll think about it later on but sets them down.

"I guess I can go check on this new prisoner." he mutters taking the keys and goes to check on them. He figures they were behind the door on the left. He goes to check only to see it's locked. He blinks then looks to the key to go ahead and unlock the door hearing a click. When doing so, he opens the door to look inside.

"...Hello? Is anyone here?" He calls out in the area but he did notice a prison cell and it looks like it was almost empty but it wasn't. He takes a step forward to look and as he did, he heard something to stop. "???"

"Hello???"

"...Hmmm? Oh, do I finally have a guest.." Said a deep tone making Rust tense and quickly turns on the light. His eyes looks then widens seeing someone in the cell. It was a male wearing the formal orange suit with shackles on his ankles but the wrists too. He looks pretty built but not too built being strong. Dark brown hair with dark brown eyes. He was looking to the office while seeing him.

"........"

"What? No words to say? Or you just speechless?" he said but Rust shook his head to look at him.

"Who said I was speechless? I'm the new officer that was sent to watch over you brute. So don't you try any funny business ya hear me?" he warns the prisoner but the other looks at him or at least took in the features.

The man seems built himself, not too small but not too big. He looks pretty cute even wearing the officer uniform. He looked pretty adorable and yet trying to keep up a strong face. However, he seems to have beautiful hazel blue eyes.

"..........Uh huh. Sure your not." he chuckled looking to Rust as he leans back to look ahead. "So, what brings someone like you here to visit me? curious of your prisoner?" he teased and yet Rust said nothing only looking away from him.

"Well, yeah. I had to figure out who I'm watching for the time but...I don't know who you are." he said only for the male to chuckle.

"It's Davion, cutie. Hope you remember that while watching over me for the time being. This made Rust tense but his cheeks flushed pink.

'D..did this asshole call me cute?!' he thought screaming but he keeps calm to glare at him.

"What? Did I say something wrong? Though, any rules you wish to give me officer knight?" he said smiling that Rust sighed to look away.

"No..just...behave yourself and you won't end up knocked out."He said in a warning tone and yet, Davion turns to look at him right in the eyes already smiling so...sweetly to him.

"Of course Officer..I'll be a good boy...though....is that all? Or are you going to keep staring at me?" he winks that Rust growls to look away.

"Whatever! I'll bring your food later before you get your rest." he said walking out of the room to leave Davion alone. When he was, the other smiled to think about it while he shows a grin that his amber red eyes show too.

'Interesting...very very interesting...'

As Rust left the room he was quiet sitting down, even if his face was still flushed pink. He shook it off to remain calm even with the thought coming to mind.

'What the hell was that all about? No no Rust just calm down. You'll be fine, like you always are. This is another criminal so it's nothing..' he thought looking at the camera to see the monitor. For now, it was time to get to work.

After a while, he started his job here every night to keep watch over Davion and he's learned a bit about him. He finds out he's a criminal in bounty work but he's related to his leader Van ink. She was told that some in her bloodline went down that route or some being on the side of officers or betraying them. He wasn't sure. However, he heard others had somewhat similar jobs. However, he didn't question too much about it.

From that night, he gotten to know more and more about Davion even tonight when he was just hearing he's got dragon blood in him so he's a humanoid dragon demon. Interesting. Rust was sitting in the office again tonight keeping a eye on Davion but he saw him just laying about in his cell.

"Well...at least he's not doing anything to try and escape......though, theirs nothing else to do here even so. Well, maybe Tv and that's it." he sighed to lean back in the chair before checking his cellphone. He got a text from Shdwkyz saying he was hoping he's alright but he said he's fine. Even finding out his prisoner was a guy that was a bat or something. Huh, that's new.

At that time, he was checking on Davion again seeing him still relaxing before seeing the time. "...Time to check on him." he mutters standing up and heads to the door again. He goes inside to see that Davion sat up this time again but yawns bored in his cell.

"...Oh? The knight checks on his dragon again hmm?"

"That officer knight to you, Dragon. I'm just checking on you to insure your...alright. Did you need anything before I leave you alone again?" he asked seeing the dragon look then thinks about it.

"Hmmmmmm..No, bored out of my mind." he said simply as Rust sighed. That was expected.

"Figures..."

"Oh come now, that's harsh. Maybe you could help me feel better? I'm bored since the last officer quit because of being scared of me. Not many know how to keep calm around a dragon you know." he said.

"I can tell even if you seem like the guy to do that." Rust said with arms crossed. However, Davion smiled to look at him.

"But..maybe you can keep me company hmm? I won't do anything and behave.." he said.

"I think not. You seem fine right now...I can just be sure your resting up for the night. So why don't you get some sleep?" He grumbles with arms crossed but Davion tilts his head to look at him.

"But I'm not sleepy yet. Maybe...you can keep me company like you did before? I'm bored.."he said but Rust said nothing to glare at him.

"Oh stop. You'll be fine. Just get some sleep....." he said turning to leave but Davion chuckled. "And what's so funny?"

"You really are so cute. It's like your nervous I'll do something but I've behaved since you came here. Isn't it mean not to reward your prisoner for that?" he teased again and yet Rust said nothing.

"...This isn't a place to give rewards to criminals like you. So just stop and get some sleep." he said to him angry now. However, Davion only smiled to chuckle darkly that he stood up but grips the metal cell bars as Rust tenses.

"!?"

"Is that so? But I've been good. Surely you can be nice for once?......I just wanna reward." he said softly to him even if his eyes were a red amber color that looks like a dragons. Hold on, so the file was right?! This guy was half dragon? Rust said nothing growing nervous but he sees how he grips the metal bars almost threatening to bend them to get out.

"............"

"So...what will you do now mr. Knight? Leave only makes me wanna have a reward." he said but Rust only looks away from him before quickly leaving the room with the door closing. Davion sees this but it made him smile. In the office, Rust was covering his mouth with hazel eyes wide. His body shook but his face was red. What is going on with that damn dragon?!

"......."

He only grips his shirt gritting his teeth. He just has to stay away from him. But he will try not to visit much in the room. For now, he goes back to work while looking quiet. For now, he just keeps working till his shift was over for that night. However, since that night the dragon kept trying to be flirty or at least get him more red even so.

The more weeks he worked as a guard for Davion, the worse he felt. Rust didn't know why but something about that prisoner got him....distracted. Even when Rust speaks to Sai even he seems distracted at times. Though, maybe it was just them. The others were wondering the same but they didn't get into their business since they worked on the same area but in different buildings.

For now, Rust was just lost in thought that he was wondering about it later on. He just sighed to blush again that even Sai noticed. Was something on his mind?

"Rust, are you alright? You look distracted.." Sai asked but Rust looks to him then away.

"No no, I'm good. Are you alright? Given the fact you gotten longer shifts at your prison." he sees the snake think about it.

"It's not that hard. I guess it's just...I'm making sure he won't escape but he's behaved so far...maybe but nothing else." he sighed to think about it. However, Rust sees Sai distracted too.

"I see..."

Maybe it is him. Even so, he couldn't ask because he knew Rust had work that night while Rust was off. Another was going to watch the prisoner for the next two nights to give Rust time to recover. However, even then he was wondering about him. That it came to him thinking about the-wait day dreaming about him?

"......" Rust was shocked to even think of that criminal so what gives? Was something wrong with him? For now, he just tries to ignore it and relax on his day off. Though, the thoughts and dreams got worse leaving the officer curious and yet again, he didn't question it.

After his two days off, Rust was back as he was walking into the office now looking around. Seems normal and nothing is out of place. However, he saw the officer left new notes for him but Rust will be sure to read them.

"I better check on him....hopefully he behaved." he grumbled walking over to open the door and look inside. "Hey, if ya still awake I hope you behaved your-" As Rust walks in to look at him his eyes widen to see.

The prisoner was still there but he was holding a ripped up officer uniform. Though, no blood was seen on him. Wait, did he attack someone?! Did he get out?! Rust was quiet and yet he was nervous.

"What the hell!?" he spoke for the Dragon to hear his voice but he slowly walks over to look seeing the uniform. "Hey, what did you do! Who's uniform is that!" Rust said only for Davion to look at him showing a glowing dragon eye. This made Rust tense again as Davion chuckled.

"Your back..I've missed you.." he said softly to drop the uniform but when Rust tires to get away from the bars, Davion was quicker to grab the metal and reaches to grab his uniform shirt to look at him.

"O..Oi! Let go!" he shouted hitting his chest and yet Davion growls to look at him.

"I think I won't...your so mean to leave me after having a night off. I been thinking about you even so. That other guard was too scared to come in the room..." he keeps Rust close as the other tries to get away but his grip was strong.

"Everyone needs a day off when it comes to jobs like this you know! Now let me go!" he shouted mad as his hazel eyes started to turn red. This got Davion to blink but he only smirked more.

'Ohhhh so he wasn't even human..even better...then that means I don't have to be gentle with him..' he thought as Rust tries to punch him for Davion to grab his wrist. "!?"

"Now now, lets not get violent. I just missed you my knight. Don't you wanna catch up? I wanna hear how you been." he said.

"How about no? You better let me go or else I'll-"

"What if I don't want to let go? I did miss you Officer knight and I wanna be able to savor this moment so...how about it?" he said pulling Rust even more against the metal cell that he growls at the other.

"I'm warning you. Let. Me. Go."

"I don't want to..I really missed you.....badly missed you." He said as Rust was glaring at him. "So..why not let me welcome you back?" he said.

"Welcome me back? The hell are you-" As he tired to speak, Davion pulls him closer before he closed the gap. He felt lips against his own making Rust's eyes widen and face pink. Did this dragon kiss him!?

He shook in the kiss feeling the heat as he grips the prisoner's uniform only to break the kiss panting before getting another one but deeper. "Mfmm!" He was strong as Davion kisses him and yet, Rust tries to push him back. However, he breaks the kiss seeing a thin trail of the kiss connect before it breaks but Rust quickly moves back covering his mouth but Davion licked his lips.

"Y..You a..asshole you.."

"What? I just missed you my knight..you can't blame for a dragon for missing what they like. However....I hope we can spend more time together...even closer than this." he said looking at him but Rust shook where he stood. He even could tell this guy was dangerous but stronger.

"You..."

"Though, if it wasn't for this damn cell cage....I would have enjoyed taking the time to eat you up while I breed you as mine." he growls that Rust's face looked more shocked that he quickly rushes out the room slamming the door leaving Davion alone. Even if the dragon growls to see this he only remains calm.

Outside, Rust was shaking where he stood but his heart was beating like crazy. His hand reaches up to touch his lips from the kiss that he looks down. He had to stay away from that dragon or he'll end up losing himself.

When I was a kids I experience a lot of funny games such as patintero,tumbang preso,dodge ball,tagu-taguan,langit-lupa,bahay-bahayan,tsato,luksong baka, and agawan base together with my childhood friends We play outside the house or a playground area.Sometimes I hide from my mother to go outside our house to play and walking around with close friend and we’re going to beach/sea to swim and catching fish,sea shell and seaweed,

In the evening I’ll go to computer shop to play online or offline games I’m addicted of computer by playing dota 2,crossfire and rules of survival,almost 5-10 hours time minimum before leaving on the computer coffee shop then after playing computer I’ll go to house hiding my mom and my father bags so i got coins or money to go back in computer shop haha!sorry for this guyss i know it’s wrong doings but I never do it again.Through my challenges and fun moment during my childhood I learn a lot and I realized to myself that this is wrong doings.Now since I am matured I develop myself of who I am I know now what’s wrongs and what’s right and I can handle pressure and responsibility physically,emotionally,spiritually

Since I am leveling of stages of adulthood I need to be more independent person,I need to find way with my own to have an stable financial,stable life and stable place,By the teach,guidance,love,advice and protection of my parents for my future life I am proud and grateful to my beloved parents for everything they have done on me I had learnings and realization that needed to apply to myself through of it I become a stronger person,I am responsible person,I am hardworking,I am dreamers,I prayed to our father god in heaven to please keep me,protect me,guide me and also my family,friends,teachers and neighbor put them in a safety place and help me god to achieve/fulfill my dreams and goals in life to make my parents proud and show their smile on me,No one can be successful without god So I put god center of everything to keep fighting in every battles in life,

The behavior that I have are I am kind,lovable,respectful,funny and responsible this moral ethics could grab me up to be a successful and to build truly person that genuinely love me.My biggest fear is letting my parents or leaving them,no matter what happen in life I continued reaching my dreams/goals in life.My purpose here on earth is to help my family and others lives to be feel the happiness and peaceful life.In addition I have 13 siblings before,but now 12 siblings remaining because my brother passed away last November 12,2022 During this time I am in the school and then I feel my bags vibrating/ringing so I get my phone and my sisters call me she said “Rhafael Uli diri sa balay,I said ngano man te?imo brother Wala na patay na!???…I said what’s is it true?are you sure?cramming and cryinggg.I go to my teacher to ask about this situation that I need to leave now teacher because my brothers die now my sisters call me I need to go home na,teacher:shocking ok langga amping ka ha,Gracelyn also text/chat me that my brothers die so I walk fast to go home while I’m crying My family said your brothers/wala na si rodel patay na I cry a lot of tears inside my room and I don’t know what I feel,I see the wall in 10-20 minutes tulala,How many hours my brothers sleeping in his coffin forever I cry I cry I cry and I feel sad that moment.
