None of It Was Accidental
(Read on AO3)
Dot tries, and mostly fails, not to let the pain show on her face in front of Jocelyn. Everything she’s done up to this point has been for the Shadowhunter - she barely slept since Jocelyn’s disappearance, working tirelessly to track her down while still fulfilling her promise of keeping Clary safe.
And now here she is. After allowing herself to be captured by Valentine to gain the access she needs to free Jocelyn, Dot knows that she isn’t going to make it back home with the woman she loves. Valentine’s experiments on her have done too much damage too quickly. She has just enough magic to drop the wards long enough to portal Jocelyn out. It’s just a matter of convincing Jocelyn to go when the time comes.
“You should’ve stayed away, Dorothea,” Jocelyn says, eyes wide and brimming with tears at the sight of the black veins spreading slowly but surely up Dot’s neck and across her face.
“You know I couldn’t do that, Jocelyn,” Dot says, shaking her head with a small, sad smile.
“I never should’ve let you get dragged into all this,” Jocelyn sighs.
Dot, against the seriousness of the situation, laughs. It sounds insane given the circumstances but she can’t help it.
“Drag me into this? Jocelyn, from the moment I met you, I started inserting myself into your life more and more. I put myself here, my dear.”
“If I hadn’t needed help hiding Clary and the cup-”
“I offered to help the moment Elliott and Magnus told me about you. And I knew you were a good person the moment we met. Since then I started visiting you more often, staying longer, lingering touches…”
Jocelyn says nothing but smiles slightly.
“Nothing was going to stop me from protecting you, Jocelyn. Not then, and certainly not now.”
“So every late-night drink I thought you were just having because you felt bad for me…” Jocelyn trails off.
“None of it was accidental,” Dot confirms.
“I know,” Jocelyn says, and this time it’s Dot who falls into silence. “I knew, even back then.”
“Then why didn’t you stop me?”
“Because I wanted you, too. I was always yours, Dorothea. I just… I don’t know. I didn’t realize how much I meant to you, not really.”
“Unfortunate that you have to find out this way,” Dot says. She can feel it now, even her words are coming with great strain and there’s not a lot of time left. Not for her, at least.
Dot closes the gap between them, gently placing her lips on Jocelyn’s, her hand coming up to cup the side of Jocelyn’s face. Dot feels Jocelyn’s hand come to rest on the small of her back, pulling her closer. Dot knows she should pull away, she knows they’re running out of time, but she can’t bring herself to end this moment any sooner than she absolutely has to.
When that moment comes Dot pulls herself back, slow and reluctant.
“I love you, Jocelyn. Take care of yourself, and Clary,” Dot takes a deep breath. “And I’m so sorry, I hope you’ll forgive me.”
“Forgive you for what? Dot, what’s-”
Dot drops the wards, and with what little magic she has left at the very fringes of her reach she summons a portal behind Jocelyn, reaching out to push her backward through it to safety. Dot barely has enough energy to keep it up until Jocelyn is fully through before her magic is completely wiped out and the portal closes.
Dot feels the poisoned veins spread and knows this is it, but she doesn’t care.
She did it. She wishes more than anything she could’ve followed, but as long as she got Jocelyn to safety that’s all that matters.
That’s all that ever mattered, she thinks with the smallest smile just as everything goes black.

making a complete list of my thoughts of the show vs books since I finished it and will probably leave some stuff out since I’m super forgetful, sorry 💀
1. once again love that they upped the ages. glad we didn’t have centuries year old Magnus chasing teenager Alec or all the other inappropriate relationships in the books
2. Malec is fucking perfect on the show and it really showed that if any actually cares about them, they can make the characters much better and give the characters a better shot than the author ever did. I seriously love all the details Matt, Harry, and whoever wrote their episodes did. only one I cannot stand is when Alec doesn’t realize right away that Magnus and valentine switched bodies. but alec handled the immortality thing wayyyyyy better than book Alec ever could. book Alec (and pretty much TMI content and etc) barely exists let’s be real
3. Izzy and Simon are way too rushed in the series but at least they have more do a friendship and there’s no cheating storyline. but I kinda like Maia and Simon together. I feel that Maia understood Simon.
adding: I don’t mind Simon and clary in the show dating and the way they end things is not as harsh as it is in the books. maybe clary (I’m being kind lmao) actually cares about Simon in the show but still kinda uses him at times
4. might be the only thing I’ll say about the books that’s nice but it would’ve been cute to see the vacation storyline (eldest curses) in the show. would’ve been cute to see a Malec holiday and moving towards them having children 🥹
5. Maia doesn’t get enough credit. she’s one of the few sensible people on the show and gets more attention than book Maia ever did
6. speaking of Maia, I’m glad they didn’t go too extreme with the Jordan plot. in the books, I think she was made to feel to get over how Jordan treated her. but man, why does the actor have to be attractive 😭
7. I really like Maryse and Luke together. they fit each other quite well. Maryse has some of the best development in the show and I loved seeing her grow
8. glad Jocelyn was killed off. she was more insufferable in the books so glad the show decided they didn’t need that energy
9. Jace and clary are both clearly insufferable but it’s worse in the books. I feel like in the show they’re still pretty bad but it’s a little tamed
10. Alec deserved better than jace. dude had the audacity to act as though Alec is a fling, expected Alec at his beck and call to do whatever he wanted while not understanding or caring about Alec’s feelings and his needs, practically invites himself at Magnus’s place while being the worst roommate, and then taking for granted all the people who sacrificed (MAGNUS AND HIS MAGIC LITERALLY THIS LOVELY MAN LOSES HIS MAGIC AND HIS HOME AND HIS MIND) once again to help his worthless ass
11. wish they wouldn’t have killed ragnor off. we got to see a lot of vampires and wolves but not a lot of warlocks. would’ve been great to see more of Magnus’s friends. you could seriously make a whole show based off on Magnus and his life
12. kinda wish they kept camille around. I know she was drama for malec in the beginning but she’s still a very fascinating character
13. I’m 100% thankful for the show not following the books and creating their own world
14. I would’ve loved to see more of the alternate universe episodes. one of the best episodes
15. ALL THE MALEC PARALLELS. these two beautiful and desperately, devoted, in love with one another men are seriously the best part of the show 😭 the fact that there are no cheating stories (when Alec is all drunk, underhill is flirting and all Alec can talk about is Magnus. Magnus defies bisexual stereotypes when dot tries to kiss him.), no taking away immortality or throwing fits or bierasure, or any toxic storylines is one of my fav things about Malec. they’re just two beings who are so in love with one another, who communicate, and are just completely devoted to each other. and it’s one of the reasons why everyone was so hooked on Malec. they’re healthy but you’re also excitedly rooting for them 🫶🏼
16. Clary deserved to lose her ability with runes. the angels message was to not use her rune ability for whatever she pleased but she took advantage of it. but I will say, some helped but I feel that the rest she just used because she didn’t care
17. season three breakup wrecked me and I’ll not emotionally recover from that. it breaks my heart seeing Alec break his own heart and Magnus’s all so Magnus can have his magic and be whole again. I’m so glad they got married in the end 💓
18. I’m glad the twinning rune went to clary instead of jace because how many times does this worthless fucker need saved????? SERIOUSLY HOW MANY
19. I think Magnus recognizing what Alec needs at the beginning when they meet is beautiful. I don’t think it’s creepy (as some book fans state.) and it shows that Magnus understands that Alec is not ready to be out. I’m glad Magnus doesn’t get shitty with Alec on not being out like he does in the books
20. also book vs show thing. I actually like the whole marrying Lydia plot. I get the whole grand gesture of kissing in wherever they were- sanctuary???? (y’all cannot pay me enough to read TMI again, I will not go through that torture again) but I really hate that it’s not even in Alec or Magnus’s pov. CC makes a point of giving characters she chooses to have unnecessary pov
21. I probably forgot something but I mainly skipped all the clace content that didn’t involve Alec or Magnus but otherwise, messy show but so amazing for the Malec content. Izzy, Maia, Raphael, and Simon are a bonus as well. I’m just saying that the show could’ve been a whole lot worse lmao

Instead of giving you even more prompts this week, can I just request a continuation of something you’re already working on? Honestly there is so much great stuff to choose from. Anything would be good but I’ve been really thinking on the two time travel fics you put out. Really interested to see where you take those and how thoroughly the boys will destroy canon.
Really though, I’ll be happy with anything you might pick.
here! some more of the same sky where malec timetravel back to the past ^_^
i am hoping this is one of the two? i'm not sure which of the other tt is yur preffered second though
i hope you enjoy

Alec dies on a Tuesday.
Alec dies on a Tuesday and the shadowworld goes to hell on Wednesday, as if Alec’s death was what broke the dam.
Jace knows it’s dramatic, he does, but that doesn’t mean he and Izzy both can’t feel that it’s the truth.
Alec died and now the downworld is locking itself down, as if Alec’s death is just the first catalyst in a series of unforeseen and terrifying events that even the clave doesn’t know how to deal with.
Demons killed Alec — and if it wasn’t demons than Jace is going to find out what it was that stole his parabatai away and destroy whatever and whoever it was — and Jace is fully dedicated to eradicating every single one. He’s going to ensure that he earns justice for the broken bond.
Alec frowns as he looks over a book with Ragnor, “Jocelyn shouldn’t need to use it again, but even if she does she won’t need your assistance. We don’t even need the book since he’s already done the spell before.”
Ragnor nods in obvious agreement and they share a look.
Alec hopes it means that Ragnor is also impressed by the fact that Magnus has never forgotten a spell that he’s cast.
“But I still don’t like leaving the Book of the White with Camille, there’s too much of a risk of it ending up somewhere it shouldn’t.
“What do you mean it’s with Camille?”
Alec frowns and racks his memory, “from what I remember, Dot Rollins traded it to Camille for some sort of safety for the Fray’s.” Alec takes a moment to consider Ragnor’s rapidly purpling face and then he wisely sets down the book he was reading and backs out of the room.
He doesn’t understand half of what Ragnor is saying but that doesn’t change the fact that it’s clear Ragnor could use a little space while he processes the information that Alec gave him.
“Everything alright, darling?” Magnus asks him and Alec leans in to press a kiss to his cheek and sigh in relief that he’s warm beneath Alec’s lips.
“I think I upset him. I didn’t realize he didn’t know that Camille ended up with the book.”
Magnus winces and shrugs while Cat stares at the both of them. Alec doesn’t know how to respond to this version of her. This Cat doesn’t know him and is only allowing his continued existence because of Magnus, Alec can tell.
He respects that about her, but he also misses sharing stories and love for Magnus while they watched Madzie at the park…
“Madzie—” Alec breathes out turning to husband and then Magnus’ face transforms into one of darkness.
“You’ll act as a distraction?” Magnus asks quickly, because they both know that right now they have the very best element of surprise.
Rouse will never expect Magnus to be working with a shadowhunter.
Just like Valentine won’t be expecting Alec to be working with warlocks.
What became common knowledge is now their secret weapon and Alec nuzzles Magnus cheek even as his gut twists in memory of being too late to save Madzie before she survived more trauma.
This can be a gift, to both this new start for her as well as the failure that still haunts him.
“Of course.”
“Cat—” Magnus turns to give her a serious look filled with fury. “I will need your expertise and any comfort you’d be willing to offer a warlock toddler. She needs the stability of a safe and steady home and lifestyle and her core seems to be similar in wavelength to your own.”
Eyes warm with trust and Cat merely inclines her head — and Alec had expected no less — “I’d be honored, Magnus.”

WIP Wednesday
tagged by @giddyupbuck @jesuisici33 @wikiangela @disasterbuckdiaz @underwater-ninja-13 @wildlife4life Thank you loves 💖
I don't really have anything new today (this cold hasn't been helping any writing). Have this snippet of with my heart in my lap that you've definitely never read before.
The rear door opens, allowing Twyla to maneuver inside while showing off the deep cut V that comes to a point halfway down her back.  Alexis clutches at the underside of her thigh, nails digging crescents into the flesh to prevent herself from reaching forward. So she isn’t further tempted to trace the expanse of bare skin, or spontaneously press a kiss to every visible freckle.  A wave of emotions crashes over her, making her want to call the whole evening off. To keep Twyla to herself so she doesn’t have to share. But, as much as Alexis wants to, that’s not a decision she's entitled to make.  “Hi.” Twyla’s greeting comes out breathy and light. The single word seems to float between them, fluttering across the space, gentle and delicate. Like something Alexis could catch in her palm and tuck away for later.  “Hey,” Alexis manages to answer. “You look… beautiful.”  Except Twyla is so much more than that. Beautiful doesn’t scratch the surface of how stunning she is. She should be photographed or, better yet, immortalized in a painting.  A rosy pink settles high on Twyla’s cheeks as she mumbles thank you and shyly averts her gaze. But then she tilts her head, looking at Alexis as though the rest of the world no longer exists. There’s a haze of sadness in her eyes when she adds, “You look like you’re going to break a lot of hearts tonight.”  Alexis pushes away the immediate ache that settles in her chest, fairly confident the only heart breaking tonight will be her own.  The rest of the ride to Elmdale they gossip about who’s coming out tonight, whether Roland and Jocelyn will be asked to leave for inappropriate dancing, and generally buzzing about the idea of an up and coming band performing so close to them.  Street lamps begin dotting the landscape, situated closer and closer together as they approach the edge of town. Cars and pickup trucks converge in slow moving traffic leading to The Quarter Note. When Alexis spies the electric blue sign at the front of the club, an idea begins to form as she peers at the long lines of vehicles.  “C’mon.” She grabs Twyla’s hand, pulling them both toward the door. With her free hand Alexis grasps the handle, tugging it open.  “Lex! What are you doing?” Twyla giggles behind her, scooting across the seat. The sound sends a thrill through Alexis, making her feel like she’s on top of the world.  “Getting us there faster!” They hold onto each other like a lifeline, fingers interlaced as they weave through the maze of vehicles, ignoring the horns blaring as they cut through.  People glare and mutter under their breath as they make it to the sidewalk, laughing and breathless. Alexis can't care what anyone says though when Twyla is squeezing her arm, head thrown back and eyes shut tight, voice ringing out like a bell.  Unwilling to separate herself for longer than necessary, Alexis holds out her arm, offering it for Twyla to take. She does, slipping her hand through Alexis’s elbow and connecting them together. Alexis enjoys the way they fit like two puzzle pieces. Like a sign that this is how they should be.

buckle up, gang- it’s time for another chapter breakdown for ilw by @itlivesproject
chapter 18 spoilers below:
If chapter 17 was like a punch to the face, then chapter 18 was like a hug from a friend (followed by another punch to the face- CONNOR MY GUY STAY SANE I’M COMING TO SAVE YOU). In terms of pacing, it was a necessary pause for the characters, especially MC (Rowan), to process their most recent revelation.
🍪🥣🌳- turns out these hints from the sneak peak were actually wholesome LOL and are the center of what I wanted to make a deep dive about.
This week, Rowan tells the rest of the gang about their true origins and we as players have the choice of who comes out to comfort them (nice touch btw PB had me conditioned to believe that this would be predetermined based on relationship points).
I’ve played through all three versions w/ Abel, Jocelyn, and Lincoln and it essentially boils down to the same message from each of them: they are accepting of Rowan regardless of who/what they are. There are, however, some nuances between each of the scenes that keeps them all unique- specifically revolving around how each of them responds to Amalia leaving Rowan. That’s right- even when the bestie ain’t around for most of the chapter she STILL is thing that’s weaving this all together #queen
Let’s start with Jocelyn 🥣:
Tumblr media
Jocelyn takes the path of avoidance. This is very in character for her given that she has yet to properly make amends with everyone from high school for her bullying days (she does have the opportunity to apologize to ilitw!MC (Devon) in ch 14, but I believe she’s still on rocky terms with the rest of the ilitw gang). Ro’s insecurity about their existence is not unlike Joss’ insecurity over her past. Both of them hold feelings of guilt, remorse, and inadequacy. Her advice of leaving Amalia alone comes from her own experience with her past relationships. She is self-aware: she knows she was in the wrong, but she also knows that she’s not that person anymore (with or without the forgiveness of the ilitw crew). It’s more important for her to get Rowan to realize exactly who they are: Rowan. They were able to see the good in her despite her past, and now it’s her turn to return the favor. GOD I LOVE HER
Moving onto Lincoln 🌳:
Tumblr media
Oh, Lincoln🖤🖤🖤 His scene has a special place in my heart just bc it was so goddamn wholesome. But that’s not why we’re here lol
His temper has led to some unfavorable consequences- i.e. his rash decision to change up the senior prank to stealing the principal’s car which led to him and Abel getting arrested followed by his equally rash decision to not tell his dad that Abel was in jail with him. While we as players are never explicitly shown the immediate aftermath between Linc and Abel, we’re told enough to know that what happened severed their lifelong friendship. I think it’s safe to assume Lincoln had to spend many years alone without having a solid inner circle of people to rely on. So, in this instance, he can understand what Rowan is going through. He doesn’t say that’ll be okay between them- bc frankly, he doesn’t know. If Ro hadn’t reintroduced Abel back into his life, I’m not sure if/when they’d reconcile. What he does know is that Rowan isn’t the monster that they are making themselves out to be.
Tumblr media
Veering off the main analysis for a bit to point this out. I wanted to see if there was a deeper meaning behind Lincoln showing Rowan the rowan tree- and there was! We’re 18 chapters in, so someone may have connected these dots already, but in case no one has: here ya go😊
Rowan – the ‘lady of the mountains’
The Rowan tree belongs to the rose family. It is sometimes known as the mountain ash, though it is not related to the ash, and sometimes ‘The Lady of the Mountain’ due to its ability to thrive in inhospitable mountainous environments.
The Rowan was one of the most sacred trees to the Celtic Druids and to the Scots who regarded it as so sacred it was forbidden to use any part of it except in very special religious ceremonies. When the Vikings invaded Scotland they used the wood from the Rowan trees to make Runes which were worn as amulets for protection from sorcery and the evil eye.
The Druids used rowan branches on funeral pyres as a symbol of death and rebirth and rowan trees planted in cemeteries are said to protect the dead from evil spirits. It was also one of the nine sacred trees to be burned in the Beltane fires to symbolize new beginnings.
Rowans were often planted near gates and doorways to protect against evil spirits and misfortune.
Okay, interlude over. Let’s move on to my man Abel 🍪:
Tumblr media
Now Abel... Abel’s scene caught my eye (and not just bc he’s the love of my life). The reason why: Rowan’s response. I disagree with it. Now before y’all jump me- hear me out lol.
I understand why they say it. Abel by all means is a selfless character. This guy KNOWS sacrifice. He’s had to muscle through a lot of hardships in his life: the loss of both his parents, becoming the primary caretaker of his family, holding the burden of seeing ghosts for nearly 10 years. Eventually, all that strain wears a person out. Rowan takes notice of this whenever they see the bags under his eyes or the haunted look on his face. He also has the tendency to brush off his own needs for the sake of others. So it makes sense why they think it’s ironic for him to say it’s okay to be selfish. The thing is, Abel has been selfish. Maybe not with his family or with Rowan. Lincoln, however, is a different story.
It’s not outlandish to think that Abel considered Lincoln as family. And if we know one thing about Abel- it’s that he holds family very close to his heart. This makes their falling out feel like a complete betrayal to him. A wound so deep that he couldn’t see any way to mend it. Abel can swallow his grief, his fear, and his stress for his younger siblings- he does it out of love and duty. But with Lincoln? He chooses himself. Lincoln was the one outlet Abel gave himself to feel hurt. To feel angry. To feel sadness. To just simply feel.
The advice he gives to Rowan: “You’re allowed to feel hurt. You’re allowed to feel upset” is most likely a mantra he had to repeat to himself over and over after his fallout with Lincoln. Why? Bc Abel’s not used to letting himself break. He’s the reliant one. Dependable, there whenever you need him to be. But he learned the hard way that you can only bend so far before you break. And with Lincoln, he shattered.
And that’s all folks! This chapter really gave mental health check. Perhaps this was the writers way of giving us all the therapy we desperately needed from the trauma of previous chapters LMAOOO

Rhaenys' first ride
Summary:
The visit of the Prince of the Summer Islands to King's Landing is a great opportunity for the Spring Prince to take care of his little niece. Annoyed with his wife's attitude of not wanting to have a child yet, Baelon is confident that caring for a gentle child like Rhaenys will prove to Alyssa that she herself is wrong. The day's going differently than he planned.
Notes:The main characters in our story.
Princess Rhaenys Targaryen, two years old, the center of the Targaryen family.
Baelon Targaryen, the Spring Prince, great admirer of his niece.
Jocelyn Baratheon, the guardian of the Targaryen family, loves her daughter as much as anything in the world.
Aemon Targaryen, Prince of Dragonstone, heir to the Iron Throne and affectionate father of his daughter.
And the dragons!
preview:"My dragon is yours while I'm here my Princess, you can always mount her, strapped to my chest. She loves to fly high through the clouds. So high up your father couldn't see her, but that should be our secret."
Her pale lilac eyes shone when he finished his sentence, the perfect mixture of his beloved siblings, his niece, looked at him with such adoration that his heart ached with love.
Jocelyn was more like an older sister than a relative, but Baelon knew she would not approve of his decision.
Nobody would, he suspected, except Rhaenys herself, who looked upon him with adoration whispering "I promise."
Soon the dragonkeepers prepared them and Vhagar for their flight, and Rhaenys held her breath, strapped to his uncle's chest, while Vhagar spread his huge wings at Baelon's command.
"Sōvēs Vhagar!"
The Dragonpit became a small dot beneath them, and the  Red Keep's red sharp roofs were also lost from the sight of her, and then Vhagar got lost in the warm feathery clouds, resembling the sea foam on Dragonstone.
The air was still warm, despite the height they were flying and Rhaenys hesitantly opened her small arms, stretching them as much as she could. They were not hands in her imagination, but wings, and she herself was a tiny dragon flying among the clouds.
"Ao sōvegon, ñuha zaldrītsos!" ( Fly, my little dragon!)
He only stopped to give her a kiss on her small head, and she felt every resistance melting in her, and a cry of joy escaped her soft lips!
"Wow, yes! I'm flying like a dragon!"

What I like about it: The Amazon Prime series is a pretty solid adaptation of Naomi Alderman's book. As the series went on, I realize that I am also remembering the events of the book right before they play out--which, I have to say, added quite a bit of suspense during some episodes.
The casting directors, Carmen Cuba and Nina Gold, really nailed--well--the casting. Halle Bush was especially astounding as Allie Montgomery-Taylor. Although I think they dropped the Taylor for the series. Toni Collette as Mayor Margot Cleary was also exceptional, as were Zrinka Cvitešić as Tatiana and Ana Ularu as Zoia.
Not to say the others weren't as good. But, in my opinion, these four really went above and beyond expectations. Especially for the characters they portrayed.
I also love Daniela Vega as Sister Maria. I don't remember her being a transwoman in the book. If she was, then I apologize to Naomi Alderman. If she wasn't, then I salute the team behind the show. This was a great addition to the narrative. And, for me, it strengthens Allie's relationship with Sister Maria.
And speaking of things that were not in the book; I liked that they made Mayor Cleary more than just a politician. Like, sure, she had daughters in the book. But making her still married and giving us time with her family allowed us to understand her better.
They really gave Toni Collette some good material.
I also really like that the guy being manipulated by UrbanDox is no longer Jocelyn's boyfriend like it was in the book. (Jocelyn is Mayor Cleary's daughter. Played by Auli'i Cravalho.)
What I didn't like: Dr. Rob Lopez. Especially after the fifth episode. It's like a switch was flipped and John Leguizamo was playing a different character from the one he was portraying in the first four episodes. And the thing is, you can see John Leguizamo struggling to understand why his character is suddenly so different from the one he was playing before.
They do bring him back to who he was by the finale. But, by then, his character has been assassinated.
I have issues with the pacing. Especially with the second, fourth, and fifth episode. It's like we're running through plot points that need to happen, but the timeline doesn't make sense. None of the storylines were connecting with each other. I had to take breaks from the show after those three episodes to reassess where the characters were in their lives, why they were acting the way they were acting--
I had to do a lot of connecting the dots and sweeping-under-the-rug just so I could continue with the show.
And now we come to my biggest gripe: the finale.
I hate the way they finale ended.
Specifically: I hate how they ended it for Mayor Cleary.
Allie and Roxy (Ria Zmitrowicz) got pretty clean arcs, I feel like. Tatiana and Zoia would've had clean arcs too, had Tunde (Toheeb Jimoh) not ended his storyline with theirs. And then there's Mayor Cleary.
I know what happens in the book. They could've picked a better stopping point for her since they were already changing stuff up for the show. Instead we get... what the show gave us.
It's a powerful scene, yes. It would have been more powerful had it happened at the end of episode eight. They could've moved some of her plot threads up. There was one episode where we didn't see her at all but the next time she showed up, it didn't feel like any time has passed since her last appearance. And so we end her story with a scene where a major event happens, and it's left hanging.
And not in a cliffhanger kind of way.
Her story is like someone decided to bake a cake. They prepared the ingredients, pre-heated the oven, mixed the ingredients, poured the mix into a cake pan...and just chose never to put the pan inside the oven.
It is so frustrating.
And it messes up an otherwise great finale.
It messes up an otherwise amazing season.

8 and 10 for the writing meme!
8. I'm gonna sound like such a sap. I don't really have a favorite because each main character has something about them that I really like. Marian is a practical person learning to be more romantic. I relate really hard with that concept. Almost a decade ago I was in a really bad relationship and the journey I had to take to open back up and see things romantically was a hard but really rewarding one. I love Dot and Jocelyn for their more feminine natures. Dot is the more nurturing of the two and she embodies the kindness and warmth that entails. Jocelyn is super girly with her clothes, hair and jewelry but I don't slip her into the trap of being a mean girl. She's the Disney Princess I wanted growing up. Most Princess characters don't want to be a Princess. They want to flee like Jasmine. Jocelyn loves her lifestyle and is looking forward to choosing a suitor and doing all of the things she was taught growing up. On top of those traits, both of them enjoy baking. Something I wish I could do but don't have the room in my tiny apartment. I think out of my dudes, I really like Athello. I love writing a Faerie romantic lead that isn't an ass or does awful things. His personality is a mix of that moment in Beauty and the Beast where the Beast is leading Belle into the library, Abe Sapien in Hellboy and just a hint of impish Jareth mischief. Perhaps a more toned down Lumière.
As for least favorite? I don't know. There's a villain or two in one of my back burner stories that I don't like as people. One of them was from a story about a Lady Knight named Constance and her first year or so as a green knight. She has to save her Kingdom from these cultists who took over the capital. She's caught and for months tortured by this sickly pale man with patches of snake skin and a mouth that was unnervingly wide (like a human in mid-transformation into a snake) called The Commandant. He uses psychological torture as well as physical. I hate that fucker but he was also pretty fun to write.
Side note: This story also has one of my favorite dynamics in a romance. Constance is a short, stocky and ill-tempered young woman and her lover is a tall, lanky Necromancer called Asmodeus or "Oz". He's inspired by Gordon Agrippa in appearance (Oz is thinner in build though) and in quiet demeanor. He's almost completely nonverbal and I played around with idea of him being completely mute and using sign language. That is still a possibility.
The other villain is from my High Fantasy Cinderella retelling. The main character's father is a Sorcerer who wants war between his country and that of the country they just formed an alliance with. He sends his daughter, Hester (the Main Character) to kill the king. Her father is based on my father and how he made me feel growing up. Inflicting the pain he caused me on one of my characters is hard on me. That's probably why it's on my extensive back burner.
10. Ummmmmmm I don't really know. I think it's my dialogue and I think some of my descriptions are good. Honestly though, I'm really hard on my work and think everything I write is hot garbage. I have no idea how I'm ever gonna get the courage to charge people to read my work.

A City of Bells
Chapter V — Part I
But if Jocelyn was not altogether enjoying himself, Felicity was. She was taking several months’ rest from the stage and had meant to pay a round of visits to adoring friends, but the shop fascinated her so much that she threw over the adoring friends and remained on the spot to help with the books.
Hugh Anthony was enjoying himself too, asking questions about shopkeeping, and Henrietta and Grandfather, and old Martha of the sweet-shop, who had taken such a fancy to Jocelyn that she announced she would come every morning and “do” for him, leaving the sweets to the care of old Mary and their niece ’Arriet Kate, who though a little wanting in the top story could always manage the change if the kind customers told her what to give … In fact they were all enjoying themselves, except Jocelyn.
Yet even he felt happy sometimes, for he already had for the house with the green door an almost passionate love, and in preparing it for its duties he imagined he felt as a mother must do who dresses her daughter for her bridal.
The front room with the bow-window made a perfect shop. Mr. Loveday, the carpenter and undertaker, very kindly gave them a lot of coffin wood for the shelves quite cheaply. Something about the misty atmosphere of Torminster made everyone live till a hundred and ten, and poor Mr. Loveday, who had only come to the city recently and had been unaware of the preservative quality of its atmosphere, found the coffin trade not what he had expected and was only too thankful for the work of erecting the shelves. There were curved tiers of them in the window, taking the curve of the bow in a most artistic way but not high, so as not to obscure the charming view of Jocelyn inside behind the counter. The walls of the room, and of the little room on the other side of the passage that was to house the library books, were lined from floor to ceiling with shelves, and the floorboards were varnished and polished till they shone like ebony.
The green door was given a coat of new emerald paint and the doors and window-frames inside the front rooms were painted scarlet. It was Henrietta’s taste. Jocelyn thought it too bright, but was not listened to.
Felicity was enchanted by the beautiful old kitchen with its beams and rose-red tiles, which had been scrubbed till they took on an almost velvety softness. She bought copper pots and rose-sprigged china, and Grandmother, Grandmother, with another outburst of generosity, unearthed some lovely old silver that she did not use and gave it to Jocelyn for a present.
Jocelyn’s mother who, though she dared not say so to Thomas her husband and Hubert her son, was thrilled by the whole thing, bought lengths of Liberty material out of money she ought to have been buying new blankets with and sent them to Jocelyn for curtains and cushion-covers. Sarah cut them out and Felicity and Henrietta made them, sitting on Grandmother’s drawing-room floor and stitching away under her sharp eye.
Felicity was an expert sewer. Her seams were straight as the high road and her neat stitches marched along them at regular intervals like well-drilled soldiers. She never pricked her finger, she kept her cotton clean and she sang as she worked … Henrietta watched her sew in marvelling adoration.
For with Henrietta it was otherwise. Her stitches progressed along her seams like poor little hunchbacks crawling up twisted country lanes. Somehow her cotton, though it might start life blue or pink or green, was always jet black by the time she had been sewing with it for five minutes, and the progress of its journey was marked by dots of blood. But she would not give in. Felicity, Grandmother, Miss Lavender, Ellen and Sarah all offered to relieve her of her pair of curtains, but she would not hear of it. She sewed on and on, hour after hour, breathing heavily, and now and then, when no one saw her, crying a little because her pricked finger was so sore. When at last the labour of love was completed Felicity hung the curtains in the post of honour, the window of Jocelyn’s sitting-room looking on the garden. And she did not wash out Henrietta’s bloodstains, instead she pointed them out to Jocelyn. “Not every man,” she said to him severely, “can say that a woman has literally bled for him.”
This sitting-room was the only room in which Jocelyn did not allow himself to be dominated by feminine taste. He sent to London for his few personal treasures and locked the door on the inside while he arranged them. He hung school and regimental groups and a few etchings against the old panelling of the room and spread a shabby but beautiful Persian rug on the floor. He stacked his pipes on the mantelpiece and bought a table and bookcases for his books and two comfortable but modern arm-chairs from Mr. Bell across the way, who furnished as well as draped. He heaped his walking-sticks in one corner and his fishing tackle in another and put hooks in a third to hang his mackintosh and gardening hat on.
“It won’t do, Jocelyn,” said Felicity, when admitted. “It simply won’t do. The rug is lovely, but it clashes with the curtains, and the chairs are too modern. You want period pieces in a house like this. Look how lovely your bedroom looks, with the little four-poster and the old chest of drawers … You oughtn’t to mix etchings with dreadful groups of moustached soldiers, and school-boys don’t look right on panelling.”
“They are my friends,” Jocelyn told her gently, “and it’s my panelling. You know, Felicity, I care about beautiful things as much as you do, but everyone needs one room where they can heap up their past regardless of beauty. Every picture and stick and pipe in this room reminds me a bit of the past that I liked. One can relax in one’s past. One hasn’t got to do anything about it any more … And it’s companionable, too.”
Felicity looked up at him anxiously. “Will you be lonely here? Will you regret coming here and hate me for helping to make you come?”
The June sunshine lay in patches on the floor, outside in the garden the roses were in bud and Felicity in her blue frock looked entrancing … Jocelyn laughed, for loneliness seemed as far away as last night’s dreams.
“I don’t think I shall ever regret coming,” he said. “I haven’t enjoyed humbling myself to do it, and perhaps I shall go through times in this house that I shan’t enjoy either, but I promise you that I’ll never regret.”
His last word seemed to fall into the stillness of the room like a stone flung into a well. It seemed to Felicity that its falling sent ripples outwards to the walls that broke in echo. “Regret.” She could hear the sound of the spoken word fading away into silence yet living on in every room of the house. She walked to the door and then came suddenly back to Jocelyn, seizing his hands impetuously. “Don’t regret!” she implored him. “Don’t! There’s been too much of it here. Regret for the past must be awful to bear … One can’t do anything about it any more … You said that yourself.”
“Felicity, what’s the matter with you?” Jocelyn rallied her. “Come into the shop and see the till for the filthy lucre.”
They went out and the room was left with only the word regret alive in it.

season 1, episode 2 list of more stupid thoughts
1. I don’t see why clary doesn’t ever tell Jace to not talk to her supposed bff the way he does. I’m sorry but if you’re talking to MY friend that way, I’m calling your ass out. but she probably thinks he’s “got a sense of humor” or whatever
2. when Izzy says “it’s not good for any of us” YES IZZY! the fact that clary and Simon think the cup only involves clary lmao
3. yes Simon and clary are naive but they’re informed what happens if the cup goes into the wrong hands but clary’s only concern here is her mother
4. I wish they would empathize how VALUABLE AND IMPORTANT the mortal cup truly is. because they’re like it’s the most powerful cup but they only really state so far what it would mean for shadowhunters. like it literally affects everyone
5. I like the technology they have and it actually makes sense to me. probably makes fighting demons in a way easier and locating enemies. it’s still funny to me that CC later tried making fun of it in TDA
6. Izzy is making Simon blush 24/7 which is valid because she’s gorgeous 🥰
7. Alec seems to be the only one concerned that they have a mundane in the institute. aren’t they supposed to be protecting them and making sure they don’t know of the supernatural world? this is one of the reasons why Simon gets turned into a vampire
8. also Izzy is such a true friend. there’s no competition and she is super nice to clary. she makes sure clary feels accepted and that she is comfortable there. honestly Izzy is too nice in my opinion
Tumblr media
9. and I would’ve been down for an Izzy + clary pairing. I can’t stand clary but with Izzy’s presence? maybe she could be better
10. “I don’t care what the clave or you wants”- clary to Alec. showing that she doesn’t care about any of their rules and how things are run, as long as she gets her way. tells Alec my name is not little girl yet you’re throwing fits when you don’t get your way.
11. I don’t think Alec gets enough credit for putting up with clary. GIVE THIS MAN A RAISE
12. literally laughable that Dot is like hElP mE mAgNuS sO wE cAn SaVe JoCeLyN. what has she or other shadowhunters done for Magnus and the warlocks? does dot even realize how much all the downworlders and especially warlocks are in danger? but it’s all Jocelyn clary Jocelyn!!! (EVERYONE IS AFFECTED BY THE CUP)
13. I don’t know if it’s me, but the way clary walks and just acts in this episode is so cringe
14. Magnus is a whole mood in this episode
15. I don’t think many really get what this means for alec to have jace chasing clary. Jace is doing all the things he’s never and would never do for alec. no wonder alec is hurt, upset, and having to clean up after his and clary’s messes
16. Luke isn’t alpha yet but I hate that he’s going to be. he’s a terrible leader and he acts as though the wolves don’t exist.
17. “It literally never stops talking” I love an annoyed Alec
18. I don’t see why Simon is there in the first place. Clary blames Izzy and Alec but why is Simon there? once again, it can be pinpointed back to clary of all the stuff that Simon practically goes through. because let’s take the mundane to some graveyard with some skeleton scratched out men because what’s the worst that can happen?????
19. Alec isn’t being that outrageous when he finds out that clary’s father is Valentine. she comes out of nowhere, makes them go on stupid missions, so why wouldn’t he be concerned?????? how are they all supposed to trust her? THEY DONT KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT HER.
20. adding on- the outsiders are usually the ones with the agenda. Sebastian comes in with an agenda and he’s an outsider so it’s really not that alarming if clary was doing the same. she’s done absolutely nothing to gain Alec or the claves trust. I don’t like the clave but they do have rules for a reason. but jace can’t see that because “she’s lost everything like me” yet he has Alec and Izzy and Maryse but let’s just ignore all the people who have supported you for the past ten years
21. lastly clary blaming shadowhunters for Simon getting kidnapped is comical. he shouldn’t have been there!!!!!!! instead of taking accountability and being like I should’ve made him stay home and never introduced him to all of this- she goes on and blames Izzy and Alec. THEY ARE NOT BABYSITTERS. only been two episodes and I have a migraine because of her lmao
Tumblr media
thanks for joining I forget the club name and criticizing shadowhunters but love show Malec meeting. let’s see what number we get for our next meeting ✨alec gif because he is THE MOOD

hello hello
I know you only posted it to a03 last night, but I would love to see more from "marriage of inconvenience." 💛💛💛
you're not the only one <3 and i'm glad so many people like it! I realize now that I could have just combined all the prompts for more marriage of inconvenience but that honestly didn't occur to me.
so I'm writing separate ones for each! i hope you enjoy and thanks for the prompt
so there is a piece that goes before this in alec's pov
there and now this
--
Magnus is seething especially because he suddenly realizes that Alexander doesn’t know who Clary is, not as much as he should for someone he was expected to marry.  At the very least, Alec should have had a dossier.
“Do we need to pick up your things? A go bag? Anything for my handsome eloping shadowhunter?”
“Ah-” And under him Alexander is blushing but he’s grinning as he says, “I may have burned most of my wardrobe. In a completely accidental fire that took out my wall and caused Clary and I to be moved to opposite sides of the Institute.”
Alexander looks smug as he says it and Magnus rewards them both with a kiss. Because every time Alexander opens his mouth he gets more and more delightful and Magnus needs him to stop before Magnus doesn’t let either of them leave bed.
Ever.
“It sounds horrendous.” And Magnus wants to know every bit, especially since Jocelyn conveniently never mentioned a word that she was returning to shadowhunter life and the shadowworld.
And neither has Dot.
Alexander seems to get that because he gets this distant look, like he’s going over something only he can see. Magnus gives him time, smoothing out the little creases on Alexander’s brow when he thinks too hard for a moment.
“Jocelyn Fairchild arrived at the Institute six months ago. She requested to speak to Hodge Starkweather who is a known Circle member and when I alerted the clave, the entire Institute was put on lockdown. When we came out of it, Jocelyn had a position of power in the Institute. Not a commander, but high enough and my parents came back to make sure she wouldn’t make a permanent grab for power. And then Jace and Clary found out they were siblings and ruined my life. Because Jocelyn and my parents decided to consolidate power and Clary was apparently so heartbroken over Jace being her brother, that she agreed to it.”
“Ruined your life?” Magnus asks, because Alexander really does look and sound incredibly frustrated.
“After they forced the engagement I had to play nice with Jocelyn because of the clave and because of my family. But Clary is an impudent, disrespectful, reckless, insubordinate toddler. Magnus three of my personally trained people were injured because of her antics. And Jocelyn and Jace would dress me down, like it's my fault Clary throws herself at danger. Because the only thing that Jace and Jocelyn can agree on is that Clary is perfect and needs to be protected and nothing is ever her fault and I’d better be a good husband or else.”
“You’d better only be my husband, or else.” Magnus promises and Alexander grins up at him in delight.
“You’d kill anyone who looked at me?” Alexander asks, like it’s even a question.
“Obviously.” Magnus says and then he’s saying nothing much for a good few minutes as Alexander sloppily but eagerly kisses him.
“And what do you think I’d do if you looked at someone else?” Magnus asks when Alexander finally drops back to the mattress, breathless and hazy eyed.  Magnus finds that he’s curious for the choice in criteria and Alexander scoffs and gives him an incredulous look.
“Magnus, why would I look at anyone else when I can look at you?”
And Magnus finds himself flustered as he looks down into earnest, soulful eyes that are gleaming with overwhelming sincerity.
